This is the second part of a six book series about a woman who kept a four year friendship with a man who has an unhealthy dependency on her, up until he declares his romantic feelings for her. Natalie is adamant with remaining only friends with him, although she admits that she has feelings for him. Losing her father in the line of duty has her swearing off romantic relationships with cops. However, she meets Elias while he's near death from a shooting that scarred his face and they have been close ever since.
The author masterfully plays up romantic and suspenseful tension in this book. I'm left conflicted and frustrated as I read this book because while I am dying for them to be together, I also can see that it would be a recipe for a disaster. I also appreciate reading about Elias' Ethiopian heritage and the dishes that are made in this story. The books are short and have cliffhangers. I just hope that the story remains fresh through the next four books.
