A TICKING TIME BOMB WITH THEIR DAUGHTER AS THE HOSTAGE

A mysterious package is delivered to Hamilton DeShear and Jaden Trinn – by a driver who then brutally commits suicide on their property.

The box contains a message from Dr. Marcus Hauser, who everyone is certain is When the couple’s adopted young daughter was in Hauser’s custody, an explosive device was implanted in her head. It will detonate in 72 hours and kill her – unless DeShear comes to a secret location.

The obvious trap will deliver DeShear to Angelus Genetics, a criminal enterprise the couple shut down, but they can’t risk their young daughter’s life.

Dr. Hauser’s lost artificial intelligence program might be the key to subverting his plan – if Trinn can find it in time. The one person who can operate it is 4,000 miles away, locked up in prison, and swore to kill her.

Just when Hamilton, Jaden, Helena and Constantine think they’re safe and sound in their new estate, an intruder with a box delivers a threatening message before committing suicide. The box contains a thumb drive with a message from Dr. Hauser, presumed dead up to now. He claims that he implanted an explosive device in Constantine’s head, which he will detonate unless Hamilton comes to meet him.
Meanwhile, Dr Atria Lutz has developed a species of humanoids that grows to maturity in 18 months. They are strong, smart, without fear and blindly follow the orders they’re given. Dr Lutz plans to make a fortune, selling these “tansuits” to the highest bidder.
Dark Hour is the fifth book in the Gamma Sequence series, in which Dan Alatorre successfully merges politics, ethics and science into yet another thrilling page-turner. This is the most personal story up to now, with multifaceted characters, and all the pieces of the puzzle finally come together.

A new generation of smart and artificial humanoids has been demonstrated - 5 stars

Dr Atria Lutz has developed a nearly human species that grows to maturity in two years. They are strong, fearless and take orders without question. What would a want-to-be-dictator do with a collection with these humanoids called "tansuits"? If you can pay for the development, you have an undeniable advantage.

The development was supposed to have been stopped (in previous books of the Gamma Sequence - you should start at the beginning but can read this as a standalone).

Technology, both artificial intelligence and genetic engineering, is at the heart of the story. If for no other reason to read this book, you should buy it to learn what not to do. Security failures are demonstrated by people not being careful. For example, if you have a "burner" phone, turn it on only when you call out. Never leave it on. Throw it away if you use it even once.

Human security teams including those who guard the President of the United States make occasional errors. In Dark Hour, a mistake gets you killed or 'placed offline'.

Because there is a lot of money available for buying made-to-order humanoids, stopping the development and production of tansuits has high-level support including military and security components.

Communicating mind-to-mind is one of the fascinating features of this book. Morning sickness plays an important role in plot development only to be surpassed by the antics of an obese man whose only goal is to get more wealth.

Get ready for a roller coaster ride. And have your motion sickness pills handy.

I loved this roller coaster ride of an adventure-thriller.
Dark Hour is a well plotted, mile a minute tale that spans two countries and keeps you breathless with it's sudden twists and turns. If you're squeamish about violence you might want to give it a pass, but puzzling out exactly what's going on in the minds of some very twisted people will definitely keep you busy from the first page to the last.
Fans of high-tech, psychological thrillers will definitely want to add this on to their TBR.

Riveting medical psycho-thriller!

Will Deshear, Trinn, Helena, and Constantine ever be safe from Dr. Hauser and his disciples? Genetic manipulation allows infiltration even in the most secure locations and super-human traits make the enemy virtually unstoppable. A plan has been set in motion and Hank DeShear will either cooperate or watch as his family dies, one-by-one.

The book is spellbinding. Dan Alatorre weaves action and intrigue into a gripping, fast-paced thriller that I could not stop reading. My appetite is primed for the next book in the series!

Wow, what a book. Well written as usual. The book is filled with unending suspense. Just have to keep reading as fast as you can, to see what happens next. I loved the ending. I think a good ending is as necessary as good content throughout.

Psycho Geneticist

Dr Lutz is brilliant. However, Dr Lutz is a murderous megalomaniac in her quest to be the best by getting rid of the competition. Unfortunately, DeShears, Trinn, Helena and Constantine are caught in her web of intrigue. How can they thwart her evil schemes? With her advanced surveillance systems she is always one step ahead? A brilliant portrayal of bravado and evil by Dan Alatorre which had me hooked right from the start. Highly recommended.

Wow!! This book will have you on the edge of your chair! You will have to keep reading just to find out what will happen next. This is the fifth book in the series, although you could read this as a standalone, would be beneficial to read the whole series. Filled with suspense, twists and turns and surprises I never saw coming. As having read the entire series, the DeShear family unit has become very dear to me. Dan has made these characters come to life. Of course there is a villain or two, which you love to despise, but every good thriller must have them to help build the suspense. The events that unfold, some will give you great joy, while others will bring sadness, a full gambit of emotions. If you enjoy a good seat of your pants suspenseful thriller, what are you waiting for, this is a must read!! Highly recommend. Received an ARC and this is my honest voluntary review.

Dark Hour is a great fifth book in the Gamma Sequence series by Dan Alatorre, and definitely my favorite one (1) of the five (5). This book and series is filled with characters readers will love, and ones you will absolutely despise. DeShear, Constantine, Helena and Trinn are in almost constant peril in this story, and are always on the look-out to help them navigate a dangerous landscape. At a point in the story, they think they are somewhat safe in their new homestead, with tons of security, but alas that is not the case and off they go again.
This story will keep you engaged and guessing throughout. I highly recommend the entire series, and it is much easier to follow along if you start from Book 1 and read them in order.

Another edge of your seater that will keep you guessing till the end. Familiar characters revisited and new evil added in make this an unputdownable thriller that you simply must read. A fast-paced story that is excellently written with great descriptors, twists, and turns that will certainly keep you up past your bedtime, for that 'just one more page' itch to be scratched. A page-turner that stands up to the best of thrillers along the lines of Grisham and Deaver. Do you love a good thriller? Then what are you waiting for! BTW, this book is not dependent on the previous books, but reading them, in addition, would be helpful!

Killer In The Dark: a psychological thriller (A JETT THACKER MYSTERY Book 2), my eleventh read from prolific author Dan Alatorre. In this, the second book in Alatorre's new Jett Thacker mysteries, a page-turning thriller that takes off in the opening pages & never lets up! A pedal-to-the-metal, hair-raising, spine-tingling thriller! Alatorre has really found his groove. “I received a free Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Very good series. I read all of the books back to back instead of doing
the chores I planned to get done. I have been burned out with the corruption, bigotry, wars and just plain ugliness in our country over the last decade and it only gets worse. Sigh. So I have been reading cozy books with witches, cute cats that talk, etc to escape. I had not planned to read this because I was afraid it might be too much like reality. I am glad I read it. This research could become a reality, but in spite of the evil of some main characters, there is hope and humanity in this series. And it never bores!

I found the book to be very informative regarding the chemistry and lab technology surrounding bio and chemistry. I was pleased that writer incorporated research to his facts. I also that that the writer gave his readers a glimpse of the A. I. world in which we are on the precipice of. The story was entertaining and a good read. I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Crazy Fun

I thought this was a great thriller because it kept my favorite characters in the series but it added very evil villains . The main one was a very nasty psychopath. As the previous books, there a lot of twists and turns and much guessing on my part. This seemed to be a bit more complex than some in the series and ends in SNAP with a twist ending.

I've really enjoyed the whole Gamma series but this one is by far my favorite! Riveting! Grabbed me from the start, kept me engaged, and to me, it was obvious that Dan Alatorre enjoyed writing it immensely.
Complex but not too complex, detailed but not to the point of slowing things down, and tied everything up perfectly. I must add that I'm not often surprised but there were some I truly did not see coming!
A definite winner!

This story was great because….Hamilton DeShear was one step in front of his enemies. Jaden had a plain in case things were to go sideways. By adding additional control elements, there’ll be no stopping us. Doctor Lutz have exclusive worldwide rights.

This was one unbelievable book that will draw you in and not let you go until the last word. Being able to make an almost complete human is pretty scary. This story was one of a kind. Don’t miss out.

As always, this was a great book. Jaden had a bigger role in this book which was interesting but also a little frustrating because she kept hiding things from Hamilton. I enjoyed learning more about Constantine and Helena. I love reading Mr. Alatorre's books.

Dan Alatorre has done it again. Another book full of suspense and intrigue. DeShear and Trinn are each doing their own thing to stop what is going on. Lots of action in this fifth book in the Gamma Sequence. Plenty of twists and turns to keep you involved and in suspense to the end of story.
