When I need to get away from the heat in Los Angeles, I head to a friend’s house in Vancouver, Canada. I just need to hide out. Oh, and that cute redhead? A mighty fine way to pass the time. Will this fling become something more by the time things cool down?
Seamus
When I’m invited to my boss’s house for a party, I’m thrilled. And nervous. Then I meet a guy who helps me relax. Even when I find out who he is, I keep coming back for more. Only it turns out I might be way over my head. Can I get out before I fall for him?
Gabbi lives in beautiful British Columbia where her fur baby chin-poo keeps her safe from the nasty neighborhood squirrels. Working for the government by day, she spends her early mornings writing contemporary, gay, sweet, and dark erotic BDSM romances. While she firmly believes in happy endings, she also believes in making her characters suffer before finding their true love. She also writes m/f romances as Gabbi Black.

Gabbi Grey has a great writing voice. I have several of her MM romances and I always like the way she words her stories.
This one fell flat for me, but it didn’t have anything to do with the writing voice of the author. I just felt as though Val and Seamus weren’t developed enough for me. I didn’t quite care for either character and there was no connection there. The plot was kind of meh and I didn’t find myself caring one way or the other.
Also this novella is insta-love to the extreme. Like these two know each other for four days and have spent maybe like six hours total together 😂
I would recommend this though if you want something short, fluffy, and if you want a bit of a palette cleanser in between heavier or darker reads.
I’ve been a fan of Gabbi Grey’s writing since I read my first book by her just over a year ago and I’ve loved everything I’ve read by her. She does a terrific job of packing a lot of story into a novella length book; not all authors can do a good job at that.
I’m not one of those readers who minds insta-love or insta-lust. I happen to know several real-life instances where the instant attraction ended up in a marriage that lasted until one of the partners died.
Valentino needs to get away from LA – away from a serious accusation that he’s not guilty of – so he runs to his friend Peter in Vancouver B.C. There he meets Seamus and they have an instant connection and hookup. What Val doesn’t know then is that Seamus is totally inexperienced.
Seamus doesn’t regret what happened with Val, and he believes that he didn’t do what he’s accused of, but he’s doesn’t see how they can have any kind of relationship when Val lives in LA.
I love Gabbi Grey’s descriptive writing. I’ve been to Vancouver only once but I loved it so much. Her writing brought back to my mind many of the reasons I really want to go back there again.
This book stands alone but you might recognize secondary characters Peter and Thomas from two of Gabbi’s other books: Catch a Tiger by the Tail and Solstice Surprise. If you haven’t read those, I highly recommend them even though it’s not necessary to enjoy this story.
An advanced copy of this book was provided to me at my request but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.
I received this book from Booksprout in exchange for an honest review so here we go!!
Such an interesting book with an interesting conflict. I loved Val and Seamus. They were a good match. I shipped for them from point one even though they started out abruptly and on a very rocky ground.
They were their first meeting was handled didn't seem natural. So they were instantly attracted but that attraction wasn't pulled off very well. It seemed mild at best so the way they had to act on it right away was... not quite believable.
I did not like Val's friends. They probably have their own books it seemed, I haven't checked yet. I understand Val was in a very questionable position but Peter knew him for twenty years, if I recall that correctly. I understand the position it put Peter in but he was in the same industry. He should know better than better than anyone Val was being framed.
Or maybe I'm just biased. XD
That aside, I couldn't connect with characters or the story on any strong level. Which was a bummer considering the story was so interesting.
This is for you if you need something nice, and quick and sweet with fun obstacles in our guys way.

This could have been a really nice romance, unfortunately, it was quite short and didn't really catch the essence of either the characters or their relationship. As a story I thought it showed real potential, but I found that I couldn't connect with the characters. I just wanted more of everything, I know that this lady can write, just found this on the rushed and superficial side.
3.5 Stars Val, who is hiding from a scandal at his friends’ house in Vancouver (Peter and Thomas from Catch a Tiger by the Tail), and Seamus, Thomas’ PA, get very up close and personal in the pantry during a BBQ. What happens from this incredibly quick meet and hookup is nothing short of love at first sight, at least for Val. Seamus is under the assumption that he is nothing but a way for Val to pass the time he’s hiding out, not someone that he would want to settle down with.
When the scandal finally blows over – with the “victim” recanting her statement, leaving Val vindicated, Seamus assumes that Val will be heading home to LA. Instead, Val lays all his cards – and his heart, on the table.
Will Seamus accept that Val can indeed love him after 4 days and that he is serious when he says that he wants him: mind, body, and soul? Will Val fight for Seamus or prove him right by giving up and walking away?
Gabbi Grey brings us another fast-paced, high-heat, HEA story that will have you believing in love at first sight.
I received this book as an Advanced Reader Copy and, as always, my review is unpaid and honest. Valentino in Vancouver Gabbi Grey
This story starts off with a couple of my favorite characters (Peter and Thomas from Catch a Tiger by the Tail and Solstice Surprise) home. I love how Gabbi's stories and worlds branch out and touch each other all the time. Plus, I love seeing characters that I've grown fond of making cameos, or in this instance, being the place/people Val runs to when he's in trouble. There's a feeling of real life dynamics during the conversations that happen between Val, Peter and the very protective Thomas. It sets a very serious stage while they discus Val's position and how it will affect everyone that might agree to help him.
The book isn't all about them though, I just got carried away lol. They do play a large part of the story and having histories together makes the plot fuller.
The story is really about Valentino, his troubles, the insta-lust that turns into a very embarrassing moment when he meets our other sweet character, Seamus and their journey towards HEA.
This is not a long story, so it does have that insta-love/lust thing going on, the progression of the relationship is effortless and flows so easily that the time frame really is insignificant.
The story has elements of angst and anxiety filled moments. It is fun and funny, at times it made me angry and sad and in the end, I was very, very happy.
I think this is Gabby Grey's best work yet and the perfect read with a glass of wine or a cup of tea to relax with.
The plot is extremely weak in this one. Nothing they do really makes sense to me. At all. If you are hiding out after accusations of a sexual attack, then it makes no sense to jump the first gay person you see. If your friends are having a small party, then it makes no sense to make assumptions about there being waitstaff. And even if it did, the first point stands - even if you thought it was the waitstaff, then there is the boss-employee power imbalance and it seems like a really stupid idea to jump waitstaff of your friends who let you hide out at their home after molestation and attack accusations! None whatsoever! The subsequent actions of side characters also made no sense to me. Why the big freak out? This book in general makes no sense to me, not the plot and not the characters. "I've gotten to know you through other people". Ahem. When exactly? When everyone was yelling at Val for jumping Seamus? When Seamus ran out? Most people do not want to talk to Val at all, not to mention reveal any information about Seamus. He hasn't even seen Seamus interacting with someone because he ran out of the party. Gotten to know him through other people HOW exactly?! Telepathically? Nice sentiment, but so weak it is basically transparent as in non existing. I give up.

That was a sweet story, with a solid plot. I’m in awe, the author is capable to write a novella and make it feel like a much larger story. There’s really a lot going on, with different kinds of characters, based in the showbiz industry, and there’s a nasty scandal.
Because of this scandal, Val moves from Los Angeles to Vancouver, Canada, imagine the difference. He will live with friends for a while. At a party, he meets Seamus, who’s much younger. They have a hot encounter and there’s a lot of fuss about it with their mutual friends and colleagues, who are quite protective of Seamus. Val and Seamus have more encounters we can enjoy. Seamus understands it’s just a fling, little does he know about Val’s feelings.
The story leans on the instant-love side, with some struggle before it’s getting something more solidly. To be honest, I enjoyed reading this story, Val and Seamus were mature and sweet, but I couldn’t feel their energy and chemistry, funny thing was, it didn’t even bother me too much. The story was well written and constructed, I was quite amazed by the different aspects in this story, and I had a good time reading.
*3.5* I love reading Gabbi's short stories as they contain a lot for the size of the book - interesting characters, a good plot and fast paced romance. This one just missed the mark for me but I still enjoyed the story overall and the chance to read more from Peter and Thomas who we've met in Solstice Surprise. I didn't really connect with Valentino's character from the start. I completely understand why he felt the need to escape L.A. but his instant moves on Seamus felt a little off to me. Seamus, bless his heart, seems a little timid but is definitely made of stern stuff, not afraid to stand up for himself when needed. He and Valentino connect quickly and strongly, leaving an impression that has them going back for more. However, Valentino still has a situation to deal with and that, along with their short time together leaves everything up in the air. Valentino definitely steps up where it matters, showing Seamus that he's important and wanted and that makes it into a wonderful romance. Overall an enjoyable story with a good group of characters that help to bring the tension and support to the MC's. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
What an interesting reading this one was. At first, I was ready to paint Valentino as the perpetrator after the way he behaved with Seamus at the pool party. But after reading further, I could appreciate what the author was trying to do. I do enjoy stories with studio as a backdrop for different M/M stories.
The story starts with Valentino, who was “running” away from a bad situation in Hollywood. He ended up in Vancouver where one of his closest friend was living. He was able to stay with his friend and his husband. While he was there, there was a pool party where he hit on an unsuspecting guest who showed up. However, Valentino had no inkling that the guest was indeed a guest, not a server for the party. He ended up in the pantry with Seamus, who was definitely a virgin! That did not sit too well with few people at the party and they got upset. One in particular was very upset because she “technically” heard of the situation in Hollywood. That’s where I’m going to stop and have you pick up the book to read to find out what happens and what the situation was. A short and sweet story with a very sweet ending!
I read an arc of this book and I’ll be honest. This is not my favorite story by this author. I don’t like Val. He grabs a cute younger man, instantly makes assumptions, and basically forces himself on him. Now yea, Seamus consented but sometimes being overtaken quite that forcefully can still be slightly dub-con to me. I am a sucker for an insta-love story but this is more insta-lust. And I am editing myself here. It bugged me. And then he doesn’t even try to court the other man. He bullies his way in. And grand gestures without thinking things through. Now yes, again Seamus was just as keen on it all but not my favorite kind of story. Especially when Val is trying to convince everyone that he didn’t attack a female actress. How am I suppose to believe that when he grabbed a complete stranger and has sex in a closet? It honestly doesn’t sound like the same person to me. I did love the appearance of previous characters though.
Valentino is on the run from a scandal not of his making. He has been accused of doing something with #MeToo implications that he did not do and he is not sure how to address as he has been a supporter of survivors and does not want to disrespect the movement and its implications. He runs to a friend, Peter, and gets a lukewarm response because Peter and his husband Thomas have to be concerned about the implications of harboring Valentino in this crisis. When he meets Seamus at Peter and Thomas' house he is instantly smitten but it is too much at once. To fall in insta-love while trying to dig out of a crisis presents challenges. And Seamus comes with his own issues. Their quickly told and read story was good but it felt like this could have been more fleshed out. Still I did enjoy their complicated courtship and rounded up to four from 3.5 stars for the sweet HEA. I received an ARC from GRR and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Sometimes, you gotta take a chance, stop running and speak up! Val, was going through some things and decided to run and hide out at his friend, Peter's house. He was hoping Peter would offer shelter, comfort and a respite. His husband, Thomas is not a fan and very protective of Peter. Val, thought he would take time to regroup and figure out a plan for the rest of his life. Accusations were made and he's innocent. But in the time of instant social media judge first, he has an uphill battle to clear his name. He meets Seamus and underestimates the relationship. There is a 12 year age gap, a professional power gap and a just bad timing roadblock. Can we store or leave the baggage? Can Val and Seamus relax and embrace the moment and potential? Does Val get his reputation back? Nice story. I wish it was longer. Good characters, good friends. Nicely done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I really liked this short, intense and sweet book. Val runs to his friend Peter in Vancouver when he is accused of sexual harassment of a woman--never mind that he is gay. The next thing we know, Seamus, a young ginger-haired production assistant, literally runs into Val, and within minutes they share an interlude in the pantry. Peter, Val's friend, Thomas, his husband, and several other showbiz-type people jump all over Val. Seamus and Val are fascinated by each other. The controversies get ironed out, the two men share more of themselves, fall in love, and Val relocates to be with Seamus. This book was nicely written and gave us all the sweet and confused feelings that happen when love strikes unexpectedly. Val is completely devoted to Seamus. I worry that Seamus has had no other experience in relationships; I hope they stay in love forever. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
If you are looking for a fun easy short read with a HEA, this is a good choice. It’s an insta-love story so the story line moves very fast. It doesn’t get too heavily into character development but you get a good sense of who they are.
Seamus and Val have an instant attraction. Val is in a bad place and in Vancouver to get away from a recent scandal. His character seems to make rash decisions that aren’t too well thought out especially where Seamus is concerned but you feel some sympathy for the situation he is in. Seamus is sweet with some unfortunate trust issues in his past and would love to have seen more of his character and backstory. The characters have a good dynamic between each other.
I have to track down Peter and Thomas’ story cause they sound like an interesting couple!!
This book is amazing! A sweet story about Valentino, Val to his friends and Seamus. Val has fled LA on the heels of an accusation that could cost him everything. He turns to his friend Peter, and assures him that he is innocent. It is there that he will meet Seamus, who works with Peter’s husband, Thomas. The attraction is immediate for Val and while he makes a bit of a poor judgement call, he doesn’t regret his actions. Seamus is a bit taken back but all in with Val’s attraction. Things heat up quickly and while Seamus doesn’t regret it, he’s a bit sad when the incident with Val is resolved in Val’s favor. But Val isn’t ready to leave what he’s found with Seamus behind and will make a big gesture to show Seamus that he’s all in for a life together.
I read an ARC copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.
Needing to get out of Hollywood and away from the paparazzi, Valentino heads to Vancouver in hopes a friend will let him hide out till he can figure out how to clear up the accusations against him. Lucky his friends believe him and let him stay.
Seamus is headed to his bosses for a party. Nervous about being there, he is more shocked when he knocks over a handsome man when he walks in, and even more surprised about the instant lust and chemistry between them.
This is a fast moving, steam romance with a bit of drama and unknown factors that will pull you into the story and warm you heart. Val and Seamus are the right balance for each other, and once the let down walls and self-doubt the passion ignites.

This story was good but also a bit rushed, it's only 121 pages long. Considering the book length, the character building was done quite well. There were quite a few characters introduced which makes me wonder if this is going to be made into a series...
Valentino (Val), gay, 38 year old, Hollywood movie exec, wealthy
Seamus, gay, 26 year old, virgin, movie production assistant, film school graduate
On unpaid leave from his job, Val escapes to Vancouver to hide out at his actor friend's house. During his stay in Vancouver, he meets Seamus, a cute red head and things begin to heat up.
Age gap, mistaken identity, low angst, strangers to lovers, insta lust/love, HEA
Valentino in Vancouver is a very quick story with an intriguing premise but unfortunately it was just an okay read for me. I didn't really like either of the main characters and everything happened so quickly that there wasn't enough time to develop a believable story or relationship. Seamus had a very difficult past but it was mostly glossed over and Val bulldozed him without giving him a chance to even get to know him. The lack of a connection between them also made it difficult for me to enjoy this book. Overall it never really came together as a cohesive story for me and the abrupt ending made it feel unfinished.
I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.
I always enjoy the writing style of Gabbi Grey as her characters are always realistic and true to life.
The dynamic between the characters was a bit confusing in the second chapter of the story, because you as reader is not sure if what they were doing in the beginning, was right but as the story progresses and their dynamic changes you get an idea for what lays in store for them.....
Life lessons in learning to trust and love with patience and understanding is a journey that Valentino and Seamus must endure to reach their ultimate happiness!
A short novella packed with lots of steam and sprinkled with a dash of angst Gabbi Grey style!.

It can be difficult with a short story to devote the right amount of time to the character development. The author must balance the story line events while helping the reader with enough information to form an attachment to the characters. If that connection doesn’t happen, the story can fizzle. This one might have been better with more attention given to the characters. I just didn’t see a strong connection. Regardless, it was a good quick read about two people, Val and Seamus, who meet when Val runs from a scandal and is hiding out at a mutual friend’s house where Seamus arrives to attend a party. Is this just a fling they start? Or will it have time to turn into something more lasting?
Thoroughly enjoyable from front to back. Seamus and Val are very good, they fit perfectly. Their first meeting, a bit unorthodox, but definitely memorable. The start of a beautiful thing, to be sure. Great supporting cast help to bring this story to life. The beginning drama doesn’t last too long which was excellent not making that the focus. The focus, correctly in my opinion, was Seamus and Val, their relationship. Everything else took backseat because they, their love story, was lovely. Sweet and gentle with passion thrown in, too.

This story brings out so many emotions as you read how Valentino runs away to his friend in Vancouver to escape false accusations made by a disappointed lying actress. He is not welcomed and needs to prove that it was all lies before his friends accept that he is telling the truth. It is along the way that he meets Seamus and has an encounter that make his friends once again distrust his actions. This story is filled with openness and love and true friendship. Valentino finds his one and Seamus discovers that he is loved. I adore Gabbi Grey and this book is wonderful and leaves the reader with warmth and a smile.
Valentino in Vancouver: WOW! Brilliant story! Fantastic writing and dialog. I loved all the characters. Even though Valentino was unsure of where his life would go, he took a chance to drop in on his old friend in Vancouver. With everything he had been through he wasn't sure how he would be perceived. He just wanted time to think and get some advice from Peter. They had known each other a long time but he didn't want to disrupt his life. He got the cold shoulder from Thomas but he still helped. I loved all the surprises and the suspense because you do know what was going to happen and that was what was great about this story. I enjoyed it.
This is insta-lust followed almost immediately by insta-love, with Val and Seamus coming from completely different backgrounds but both working in the film industry. Meeting while Val was in hiding at their mutual friends' house, their first interaction was fast and furious in a pantry. An inauspicious start for them and a few speedbumps followed as Val lost his head and his heart while Seamus wondered what the older, attractive, successful man could possibly see in him, but they got their HEA. I liked the story, loved the other characters, especially Julie, and seeing Peter and Thomas again was a bonus.
I thought this was a cute read. We had innocence in Seamus who wasn't able to live as his authentic self. He shows up at a party and meets Val who was on the run from someone who threw false accusations at him to get back at him for not casting her in a role she wanted. The two instantly find lust and work very quickly to love. It was a cute short read. There were some bumps along the way and Seamus running away from a lot it seemed. However they quickly found their way to healing happiness and home in a short but sweet hea. The book left me curious about the other main couples from a previous story. I would say an enjoyable read that's worth your while to check out.
I received this book a while ago and I finally got around to reading it. I'm so glad I did! It is actually a quick read, but its full of sweetness, sexy times, great characters.. who are relatable in spite of them being in the movie industry. I loved Seamus so much. He's such a sweetheart even though he's been through some stuff. Val is a strong character who comes on strong to Seamus but is willing to go slow too. The heat between the two is intense. I really enjoyed reading this. But anything by Gabbi Grey is going to be good!.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. Val comes to Vancouver after trouble in L.A. and runs into Seamus. They start an affair and fall for each other. Val's troubles are cleared up by the one making the accusations but he already decided to move to Vancouver to be with Seamus. However things aren't so easy as Seamus doesn't trust him so easy. Val does succeed in gaining Seamus' trust and love but has to work for it. It's nice that someone who had things easy learns to work for what he wants.
Val ran from L.A. in disgrace. He meets Seamus in Vancouver and has a quick sexual encounter. Now he must pursue him if he wants a relationship. This is a short, sweet novella with an older man and a younger, inexperienced one. Steamy times, a well written start and some quick solutions add up to a story that seems pretty unbelievable and fairy tale like to me. I felt there was too much backstory I missed out on. I received a copy of this novella from Gar Romance Reviews and this is my honest opinion.
What a sweet fun short read that had me from page one. I loved the main characters, Val and Seamus, total opposites, but from that first meeting there is great chemistry. Soon that chemistry becomes a full on relationship rather quickly. Be prepared for lots of miscommunications, twists and turns, and surprises that will make you feel a range of emotions. But if you are like me, the biggest emotions will be a big smile on your face as you experience this book. i did receive an ARC and leave this honest review.
