Ravens of Hollow Hill #2

Fu*k Around & Find Out

Rate this book
My stepsister is like a ray of fu*king sunshine that I didn't ask for.

She would rather let me break her in half than bend to my demands.

She's playing a dangerous game, but I hold all the cards.

In one split second I made a choice that will haunt me forever, and now it's Emerson's turn to pay the price.

This is a complete standalone in the interconnected universe of the Ravens of Hollow Hill.

Battling his own issues with personal connection and the perception that a relationship with his stepsister is wrong, Grey Bishop and Emerson Richards’ story brings all the angst.

While he’s not ready to claim her, he doesn’t want anyone else to have her and she knows it. Pushing his buttons every chance she gets creates the perfect balance of toxic steam leading up to the big bang!

I think it’s safe to say that we’ve all been (im)patiently waiting for Grey’s story and he. did. not. disappoint.

Stories from this author always have the same ingredients: jealous / possessive heroes who are borderline psycho, and “touch her and die” trope. They’re solid quick fixes when you want that.

This one is about Emerson, who’s 18, and her stepbrother Grey, who’s 20. She’s finished high school but they both still live under his dad’s roof, working for his construction business. She’s lived with his family since she was 8. Grey wants her, and he hates that he does. That part of the story was drawn out for too long – with him delaying making a move on her for vague reasons. (His reasons weren't even the forbidden part of her being his stepsister, since his family knew and didn't care).

I don’t mind a slow burn. And this was a bit angstier than this author’s other reads, which I normally might like. But, the steam doesn’t come until 60 or 70% in, which feels too far into the story for a short read. (It also made it so that this feels weirdly low steam, since it's saved for the end). This had too much push-pull between them for a short read, too. After a while, it felt like this story was delaying getting them together just to spin its wheels.

Also, I’m not sure how I feel about Rory Ireland’s co-author. Her previous stories that I’ve read just had her name on the cover. This one has another author's name on it, too - Tate Monroe. And in this book, the dialogue is a bit more awkward and almost cheesy at times. For example, Grey and his dad are powerful Big Deals in their town. And there’s a scene where Grey and his dad are talking and one of them says, “Gods don’t fall. Others kneel before us.”

That made me roll my eyes. Even if they are hot shots in their town, who talks like that?! I didn’t feel this way about the dialogue in any of Rory Ireland’s other books. So, I have to assume that the occasional awkward dialogue is from her new co-author. I liked her books better when she was writing alone.

Also, Grey is part of a group of local guys who are supposed to be powerful and menacing. But there’s a scene where they go after their stepsisters / female family members for the crime of….going to have lunch in town? And when the girls get RIGHTFULLY annoyed that the guys surround them, make a scene, and demand they leave with them, Emerson refers to it as the guys “having a tantrum.” She’s right! It does just feel like the guys are being controlling in a way that is NOT hot and is childish. So, that scene took away from the vibe that these guys are powerful and menacing in way that’s appealing. It's a fine line to walk. Because dark romance heroes CAN get away with behavior that’s ick in real life. But that scene crossed the line from “I wouldn’t want this in life, but it's cool in a book” to being “ick overall, in both life AND a book.”

But I don't want to sound like it's all bad. Aside from the occasional awkward dialogue, the writing is smooth. I always appreciate how much plot and character development this author manages to fit into short reads. If you’re in the mood for a stepbrother read with "touch her and die" trope, this is fine. I’ll still read the rest of this series, and I’m not sorry that I read this. I just think this could have been better.

It's been a while since I read from these authors there. Or one of their dark and taboo.. but it's been a while. This time, it's Grey and Em.

There stepsiblings who well sorta hate eachother well Grey hates Em and she's Pinning but knows he won't do nothing he rather boss her around then fuck her. This is a tension between them and everyone in the house knows it. He'll the father knows his son wants Em he has no problem with it. In there world you take what you want.. but Grey isn't for some reason.

So you see them hate banter alot beside that Em is feeling like she only has a limited time left since Rhett girlfriend has been hinting at her to leave. which is taken care of since no one said that. Also, I believe idk if it happened. Something is up with the dad and Harlow.. the daughter, I could be wrong.

When these two finally get some spicy between them, Grey does something stupid and say some hurtful words, which has Em leaving with Haley and another, which drama happens and well.. let's say death happens that has Em pushing away. It takes them a while (month off page) to get her to open up to him and take his girl.

Low angst, slight om drama, no cheating, slight secondary character, drama, sexy times, virgin gal and sorta manwhore (from what ppls say he flirted with girls)

Recommend-maybe

Well I thought Mason and Bennett from Fuckboys in Flannel were crazy, but I think Grey now takes that crown.

Grey is everything psycho and screaming red flags, possessive, obsessive, controlling, quick tempered, arrogant and so hot you want to be in the receiving end!

I actually saw some of my own traits in Emerson, in particular the stubbornness and doing things more when demanded not too. I liked her contradiction in personality, she is full of fire but also very unsure of herself and lacking confidence in some ways. I loved her.

Greys family are so beyond crazy and funny, the added so much. I want more of Harlow, she really got my attention in this book.

If you want fast, dirty, sexy and crazy then this is the series for you. But wouldn’t mind one of the Raven boys myself.

Honest review by MissDankReads

Not gonna lie, I’ve been waiting a long time for this so I was extremely disappointed when I started reading it. The writing is completely different than Fu*kboys In Flannel, it reads like it’s from a totally different author. FIF was hot, the banter made me laugh, the tension and angst was all there. It was straight up GOOD. FAaFO just didn’t read the same. There was also absolutely no build up to Grey changing his feelings for Emerson. He slept with her one time and completely did a 180 on his feelings. There was no build up to it. It was literally from one page to the next it was different. This was also extremely rushed for whatever reason. I don’t understand why this book is so different from the one before it but I don’t like it at all and I hope that the next book Improves. So disappointed after waiting so long.

Ok but this had sooo much potential to be even more greater. The angst... I love angsty book and this was filled with it (i like slow burns so i did wish this was longer for how fast i read this book)

but yeah, the ending was tame but I’m still mad she didn’t give him the ultimate ultimatum and had him grovel on his knees but thats just the angsty me talking

First read of 2024 and I loved this! Grey was OTT JP obsessed and gone for Emerson. They were so 🔥 and I loved how antagonistic they were towards each other 99% of this book, BUT, the little ceasefire moments and the ENDING just made this my favorite out of what I read so far.

Grey was so grumpy, angry, and toxic, it was great. Emerson held her own as well which made this all the more entertaining.

I think this just wasn’t for me! I love a controlling OTT JP hero but only if he is all about the heroine…that wasn’t the case with Grey! He was an ass and definitely screwed around with OW and even threw two girls in Emerson’s face after humiliating her…he was cruel and didn’t deserve her quick forgiveness😡This could have been so good if he was all about Emerson from the start…

I love the angst and constant sarcasm between the two.

They are both hard-headed and stubborn, meaning they can handle what they throw at each other. I LOVE THAT FOR THEM!

Just love Grey and his whole demeanour/ personality 🩶🩶 alphahole to a tee, soo possessive YUM!! Emearson and her smart mouth always challenging Grey to get a rise out of him eeek LOVE IT!

Can't wait for Rhetts book, should be interesting!

Grey Bishop has me drenched and drooling. Good lord this man reeks possessive asshole and I AM HERE FOR IT!!! He’s mean, unapologetic, and gets my black heart pumping.

The Ravens are some bad MFers so it’s only fitting that the boss is the baddest. But we also get to see the other side of Grey and damnnnnn, ovaries exploding!!

Another win for the banned duo, because Grey is everything I wanted!!

They did her dirty, pero compensaron con su personalidad jiji.

Banned Baddies killin' it yet again. Grey Bishop was everything I hoped he would be and Emerson was incredible. The fire she shows others contrasting against the insecurity and inferiority she feels with being an "outsider" in the family was written so well. I wanted to high five her smart ass comments to Grey on one page and then wrap her in a hug and hype her up until she listens to what a bad bitch she is on the next.

Grey is a controlling and unhinged red flag and that just happens to be one of my fave flavours of book boyfriend. As always with Tate and Rory, we get served hot spicy spice and I ate it up. So many filthy highlights that I would be marginally embarrassed should anyone see them but hot daaaaamn Bishop, that mouth 🤌🏻

I would have liked a chapter or two from him during the one month jump of him pining or realising how deep his feels for Emerson are but I loved the Grey we get after this jump. Still a controlling asshole but he shows Emerson a little vulnerability. I also feel like the situation with Hayley was a little glossed over, I wanted to see more reactions from the rest of the family.

I'm very intrigued by so many side characters and can't wait to see what else we get with this gang. I am lowkey obsessed with Daddy Rhett and want more of him and also need to know what's going on with Harlow. Staying on the step-sibs route tho, I am buzzing for Remy and Mia.

Love how every single person in this town is hell bent on making Grey lose his hair before he's 30.

Emerson is such a sweet, pure soul. Honestly. All she wanted was a home. A family. A place to call her own.

What she got was a stepbrother with mommy issues and his head stuck in his ass.

I honestly felt so bad for Em at times. She was so done and it felt like everyone was against her.

I'm so glad Grey decided to finally face his fears and give in to his love for Emerson.

They really do deserve each other.

Grey mf Bishop…

I swear I’m obsessed with you. 🫠

When a morally grey, possessive, jealous, and OTT mmc has a thing for his stepsister… 👀👀

The banter, toxic push and pull, angst, spice was just right. I loved every bit of this.

Rory and Tate at it again with the taboo!

This was definitely my favorite book from their Ravens of Hollow Hill series. The INSANE tension between Grey and Emerson (step siblings) was so intense that it has to explode. Not an overly spicy book at all but still super enjoyable. Grey is fucking psychotic and Emerson always gives him shit…it’s fun to read their back and forth.

Grey Bishop and Emerson Richards...lawd have mercy! F*ck Around & Find Out is the second book in the the Ravens of Hollow Hill series, however, this CAN be read as a standalone. The angst between these two is like....*sigh* I don't even know how to describe it. But damn, does it make for a good read. Totally enjoying this series soooo much. WE NEED MORE DADDY RHETT!!!

The banned baddies have done it again!! making me fall in love with a hot, psycho alpha man!! Grey is hands down a walking red flag but i’m on my knees for him!!

This author duo knows how to write a short novel and keep you sucked in. From the banter between the main characters to the spicyyyy scenes is perfection!! this is a must read!! Grey and his little nightmare are toxic for each other but that’s what makes them perfect for each other!

Overall this is a great addition to the Ravens of Hallow Hills, I’m looking forward to the third book in this series!

This is a dark taboo romance with elements that may be triggering for some! please read trigger warnings!

Fu*k Around & Find Out by Rory Ireland and Tate Monroe is a dark forbidden romance. This is the second book in the Ravens of Hollow Hill series.

I loved the chemistry between Grey and Emerson. Their relationship is messy and toxic but oh so HOT! I loved getting both of their points of views throughout the book.

I can't wait for the next book in the series Good Fu*king Girl to be released on August 12, 2023, so I can get Remington and Mia's story.

I would recommend this book if you like dark romances, forbidden romances, or romantic suspense.

1st person/dual pov
Spice: 4/5

I don’t give one single fu*k about whatever feelings you may or may not have about Grey Bishop for the majority of this book, because in the last 15%, this man will have you swooning until you’re dizzy!!! Then hyperventilating because his dirty talk is also hot AF!! And because he’s extra and going for the trifecta here, he will have you laughing until you sound like an overpriced Halloween decoration! You know the ones… they have that creepy as hell villain laugh when you activate them. 😂😂

Anyways not the point lol.

Grey Bishop is on his own level of Rory and Tate’s unhinged men. In some ways, I feel like he’s right up there with Atlas and Sebastian. In others, he’s not quite there even if he’s still a total psycho haha!
(Although who am I kidding no one can truly touch Atlas - at least not at the moment 😆)

I love that while Grey and Emerson are the main focus of the book we get so much interaction with some of the side characters that we have only seen a little before now. I know we got some of their backstory and a peek into their personalities in book one but I still felt like I got to know everyone in this crew a lot better in this book. It also set up the stories of one (possibly two 👀) other characters in this series more than what we've gotten previously.
*cough* 𝘋𝘢𝘥𝘥𝘺 𝘉𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘱 🙃 *cough*
Let's just say I am more than excited about what's coming next hehehe... 😉

Now onto Grey and Emerson specifically. I am obsessed with their personalities both individually and how they clash with each other. Grey has zero filter and for the most part, cares not about the consequences of what he says or does. Emerson has a tough shell with a soft heart and pushes Grey's buttons anytime she gets a chance. Grey is the epitome of 'if I can't have her then no one will' which pushes all of Emerson's buttons in return. They both have been fighting this attraction for so long but it simply isn't cutting it anymore. Things are changing on the mountain and as they are shifting it puts them both in little situations that have them facing the pull they feel toward each other.

You've got plenty of back and forth between them and the tension that builds is fantastic. The big explosive moment for them and their story I was completely shocked by though. I honestly didn't see it coming and I'm still kind of thinking to myself "wait a minute" haha. I can't even say for sure how I feel about it cause I'm still processing it a little bit. But the outcome of it? Yeah, I can't say I'm not happy about what it leads to lol which is maybe horrible of me but it is what it is. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Then of course, as the HEA begins to unfold the side of Grey that no one ever sees peeks through and it is amazing! Like, I swooned so damn hard for this man it is seriously ridiculous! 🥹🫠 This is the exact reason I have been waiting for his book because I just knew his level of swoon was going to be epic. Plus, I knew he would have a filthy mouth - which of course I LOVE me some dirty talk! 😮‍💨
The actual spice may be a tad on the lower end for these authors than what they normally seem to put out but I'm telling you it is still good once you get it. For me, the majority of this couple's steam factor was in the buildup so keep that in mind as you head into it if you're expecting the spice to hit hard and fast (hah 😆) right away. I mean, Greyson does like to torture and tease so why would the spice in his book be any different? 😏

So, if you're looking for a short book that will entertain you or that will help with a reading slump then no doubt this is one to pickup! It certainly helped me get out of a tiny reading slump myself.

*Make sure to check the TW before reading if you usually need them and prepare yourself because Rhett Bishop is on deck and as an Original Raven you already know things are about to get kicked up a notch.

must read

I’m trying to process what I’ve read and untangle all the intricate details of the Ravens. Getting into the mindset of the men of Hollow Hill is like going against every instinct I have of how someone should react and feel and throw it out the the window. Dejecting their actions and having basically no consequences leads to interesting developments. The intense attraction between Grey and Emerson is undeniable. Grey going from sarcastic, belittling, hatred, outright hostility, to wanting to burn everyone and everything in his path just to keep Emerson safe did something to me. Through all the chaos and violence surrounding their lives, trying to have that one constant to keep them going.

I’m still in shock by one scene in particular, and I don’t know how I feel. Also, is Rhett just protective over Harlow because she’s just like him and couldn’t care less about Haley because she reminds him of their mom? Or is something else going on that we’re going to get in another book? Because, I need answers.

“I’ll never understand him. He hates me, he’s literally said I’m a nightmare, and yet, he’s so f ing protective, it makes my heart swell inside my chest.”

“I f ing hate people. Humans are idiots. All of them, to various degrees.”

“I reach out my palms and push on his abdomen, silently asking him to let me go. Instead, he pushes closer, and my hands inadvertently slide up his chest. My breath catches in my throat because my stepbrother’s body should not feel this perfect under my fingertips. His skin is hot, and I feel his muscles contract under my touch. “I don’t want anything from anyone else,” he says in a low voice, and he’s not smiling anymore, instead his teeth are clenched like he’s in pain.”

“Gods don’t fall. Others kneel before us.” “Don’t be a fool. Everyone can fall. Gods aren’t infallible. We may be gods on this mountain but never forget when you cut us open, and we bleed, that we are simply men. Don’t ever forget that, son.”

“Rhett clears his throat for a second time, a small smirk playing on his lips. “Sure looks like nothing.” “Grey is always ma-” my response is caught off when I see him glaring at me from across the yard and he beckons me over with a sharp nod of his head. “You better go see what the hell he wants before he gets worked up anymore.” Great. Left to deal with the psychotic Red Forman of Hollow Hill.”

“I know that I’m giving Emerson whiplash because I’m f ing doing it to myself as well. I don’t remember who the h ell said this, but I recall reading it somewhere. You’ve got issues. You should unpack that. Sometimes I’m too self-aware and I think it would be easier to bury my head in the sand. I know all I have to do is take her. Engulf her in everything that makes me Grey Bishop and she would come willingly. But when we claim a woman… they never stay. They always run away.”

4.25 My little nightmare Stars! 💛

Whenever Ms.Ireland and Ms.Monroe announce a new book i get so happy! This duo have become one of my go to's and i always look forward to more of their words! As soon as i reached the end of book one, i couldn't wait for this second installment! I picked it up and got right back into the Ravens of Hollow Hill world! I really enjoyed this story!

After book one, i've been so curious about Grey and Emerson and was so glad they were getting their very own book!

Grey and Emerson's journey pulled me in right from the very get go! Emerson and Grey became stepsiblings when they were younger and haven't gotten along since. You can't help how someone makes you feel, something Emerson and Grey know all too well when it comes to one another. What happens when attraction becomes harder to ignore and decisions need to be made? Will they give into the forbidden?

I really liked how quickly Grey and Emerson got me right back into this world! These two got under each other's skin in so many ways and i really enjoyed their back and forth banter. The chemistry between Grey and Emerson was undeniable. I didn't know what to expect in their story and it definitely kept me on my toes! From getting to see how they'd tackle their feelings to digging into their minds and all things in between, Grey and Emerson's story had me feeling so dang much!

I so enjoyed the whole stepbrother/stepsister and forbidden aspects of this story. I was glad to be back with the Ravens of Hollow Hill crew and get more of these characters! Also, can i be Grey's little nightmare? 😏

Ms.Ireland and Ms.Monroe have created such a great and dark page-turner with heat and the unexpected that had me feeling every bit! This duo brings uniqueness every time with their stories. I can't wait to read more of this duo's words and dive back into the Ravens of Hollow Hill world with the third installment! 💛

Be sure to read the authors content warning.

You may have met Grey and Emerson already and have gotten a little taste of their relationship going into this, if you've read the previous book in the series (Fu*ckboys in Flannel,) but you do not need to read that one to start this one if you haven't. That book does have a little more insight into the whole culture of the town and the dynamics of the characters, though, so it's adds to the story if you do read it first. This is a sorta enemies to lovers, forbidden romance, and I use the term romance lightly. She is his step sister (even though her mom ran off and left her with his family when she was younger.) Their parents weren't together for long. He's been overly protective of her and has killed people to do so. She fights him often for a little independence and freedom. None of the women in their circle have much in the way of freedom. The men being too controlling and mafia-like bringing enemies to their front door. There are a few deaths that happen on the pages (some a little more cruel than others.) There is some sexual content, but compared to book one, this is on the tamer side. The coupling doesn't actually take place until near the end... there's a lot of buildup. I wouldn't say this is necessarily a slow burn, but it does take most of the book for the characters to align with each other. A lot of the book is them pushing each other buttons. She's a bit of a spitfire and while he may have more power, she knows how to push back. Due to the subject matter and sexual content, this is suitable for mature readers... but you probably guessed that already just from the title. ;)

Grey Bishop, aka Two Bitch Bishop, has officially made it to the top of my Book Boyfriend list. He is moody, overprotective, obsessive, ruthless, an asshole, and somehow still a bit of a romantic. I think he may be my fictional soul mate though.

“𝘐 𝘧𝘶𝘤𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘩𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦. 𝘏𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘥𝘪𝘰𝘵𝘴. 𝘈𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮, 𝘵𝘰 𝘷𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴 𝘥𝘦𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘴.”

“𝘓𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘺. 𝘐𝘵’𝘴 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘢 𝘨𝘰𝘥𝘥𝘢𝘮𝘯 𝘧𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘺 𝘳𝘦𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘥𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘬𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘪𝘦𝘴.”

Emerson Richards is Grey’s stepsister, sorta, kinda, not really. You’ll have to read it to get it. Grey calls her his 𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦 𝘯𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘦 and Emerson loves to push his buttons to get his attention. If I thought the banter between Tessa and the Slade brothers was over the top and epic, it has nothing on the banter between Grey and Emerson. They both have mommy issues, among other things, that they struggle to unpack. They are like pouring gasoline on a fire, and their sexual tension was unreal. Slow burn in the worst and best way.

”𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘬𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘥, 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘙𝘰𝘺𝘢𝘭 𝘈𝘴𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘦?” 𝘚𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘭𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘴 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘱𝘩𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘱𝘰𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘦 𝘴𝘪𝘮𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘦𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘭𝘺 𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢 𝘴𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘺 𝘢𝘴𝘴 𝘣𝘪𝘵𝘤𝘩.

This story starts at full speed, let’s up on the gas a hair in the middle as these two drive each other crazy and the Ravens antics are on full display. Then it abruptly turns a sharp corner at Mach. I didn’t see that coming, but I’ll be damned if I didn’t love the outcome. Grey proved that his obsession with Emerson runs thick. Emerson may not be a Bishop by blood, but she is a part of the Ravens and there is no escaping the Ravens of Hollow Hill.

I am looking forward to pretty boy Remington’s story in the next installment. I feel like he has much bigger issues when it comes to his stepsister, Mia. And what the hell is up with Harlow and Rhett? I see you Rory and Tate. 😈 Please tell me that will be book four! 🤣

As always, these fabulous ladies know how to write dark romance! F*ck Around and Find Out is Grey and Emerson’s story—finally! I’ve been looking forward to this one since I first read the prequel to these interconnected stories a long time ago, and let me tell you, it delivered! Grey’s dad and a few other fathers oversee their area of the mountain and Grey, being Rhett’s son, is basically the boss of the younger generation. He’s angry, broody, and just plain mean to everyone, but something about Emerson twists him up inside. He can’t escape her—thinking about her, daydreaming about her, seeing her, etc.—and it makes him angry, to say the least. He’s OTT possessive of her but refuses to see his feelings for what they are, and poor Em gets the brunt of his rage. When things get messy and there is an accident, things come to a head, and boy does it get spicy. This is another shorty but a goody. These authors are able to pack a lot into a short book, making it feel less like a novella, and more like a fully fleshed story. I love the characters, the worldbuilding that’s been occurring since the first book in this interconnected series, the spice, and the overall plot. Oh, and just because someone is a semi-permanent cast member in this series, doesn’t mean they are safe! These ladies write twisted like it’s going out of style—it better never—and I am always here for it! Now I want Remy and Mia’s story!
