It nearly killed me when they took her away from me. My literal other half. The only light in my darkness. My twin sister. She still lives inside my mind, and I feel her in every breath I take. She swore on her life that she'd never forget me. But she lied. So now she has to pay the price. Because a swear is a swear... ...
Feeling adrift for more than half her life, Reese Clemson quickly accepts her good fortune of an invitation to attend Hillcrest, an elite college on Violent Peak mountain.
Despite catching the attention of hockey god, Vaughn King, she tries to keep her distance. His uncanny resemblance to Andrew, the twin brother she lost at age 10, however, has her struggling to think of anything or anyone else.
Vaughn and Reese are inextricably drawn to one another. Each consumed by overwhelming emotions of anger and despair that only the other can soothe.
📣 PSA: This is a work of fiction.
I feel like this statement has become a standard in my taboo reviews, but it is what it is… I love so many things about Rory and Tate’s writing. But I think what I love most is that their characters’ emotions jump off the page. You know that their connection was undeniable and, as unconventional as it may be, their story wasn’t one written for the sake of simply being taboo.

“You’re mine, Reese. Mine to torment. Mine to touch. Your tears, your screams, your orgasms—they’re all fucking mine and I’ll make sure you never forget that.”

Okayyy, so, what we’ve got here is another super taboo, quick read of a delicious morsel from the Baddies where all my expectations were not only met, but exceeded. No Crosses Count centers around the pain of loss, trauma and betrayal, where miscommunication rears its ugly head and what is so wrong is somehow so right.
Within these pages we’ve got the unconventional story of Reese and Vaughn, which takes place at Hillcrest University on Violent Peak Mountain. Let’s just get this out of the way, yes, this is yet another story that takes place in their cohesive universe and I am so on board as always. Because of its length, I’m not going to say a word about the plot, but just know that as pieces fall into place, the hotter and hotter this book gets. Period.
If you’ve read and enjoyed Crooked Cove, then this may be a perfect read for you. Vaughn is an OOT psychotic, obsessive alpha hole with misplaced anger and no regard for collateral damage, all while being hellbent on a crusade for vengeance. However, don’t expect a Harper clone – Reese is a badass that don’t give a fuuuuuu*k. She’s reeling from a decade of pain, and what should scare her instead excites her. We begin the game with one objective, but that’s all about to get flipped on its head.
You want a tragic backstory? Check. You want delectable tension? Check. You want (panty-melting) spice? Check. You want violence? Check. You want…hockey? Check. No Crosses Count has everything you’d ever want in a smoldering novella. Due to the nature of the relationship between the two MCs, this is definitely not for everyone, so be sure to check those TWs. If you crave those laundry list TWs like me, then dive in, you’ll love it.
She better not have let anyone touch her, because I’ll hunt each and every one of those motherfuckers down and make her watch me torture them.
5/5⭐ 3.5/5🌶️
One thing to be said, there's nothing mellow about the stories these two authors write. Each time I dive into one of their books, I know that's going to be a wild ride. And it's not just the forbidden trope - which is very forbidden 🥹-, but also the atmosphere of the book and the unforgettable mcs.
Especially, their mmcs *sighs* totally insane. Like Vaughn here! He was a total, brutal a*hole but he was mesmerizing and I totally loved him. Reese (fmc) was also psychotic and fiery. I love fmcs that don't bend for anyone and she was a perfect example. I adored her• she could go burn the world and I would clap -along with Vaughn-.
I really enjoyed the book. The dark academia vibe, the tension and chemistry between the mcs. Just be aware that this book (and most books from these authors) is intense on the forbidden trope. We are talking about 🩸 relationships, so be aware before you go in.
Did I like it? Yes. Would I reread it? I should say no. But it's a yes.
No crosses count is the latest dark romance from these authors and Vaughn and Reese's story does not disappoint. They have an undeniable connection that is filled with intrigue, mystery, and undeniable attraction. Reese has a traumatic backstory that is further complicated by seeing her dead brother's doppelganger. Vaughn decides to play along with this game and has a few secrets of his own.
I loved this story and how unhinged Vaughn becomes and Reese is a great counter to his crazy dark impulses.
The Banned Baddies duo just don’t do it for me. I *want* to love the books. The ideas are all up my alley. The execution, however, is just… not that great. Everything feels rushed and sloppy. Like the focus is on getting as much taboo shock value to the reader as quickly as possible. They got banned and just went batshit crazy.
And I totally get needing to make a living! Especially when the Zon fucks with you. But still, all the same, what we have here is high on taboo and shock value and low on quality. Can we not have both? Is that asking too much?
I luuuurved Indecent Infatuation and Violent Peak. They weren’t taboo, no, but at least we got a complete story. Here, we didn’t even get to find out the reason why the aunt and uncle did what they did. Or the mother, ultimately, other than mental illness. It was like the book just cut off.
Everything was OTT to the point of not being remotely believable, and I have a ridiculously high tolerance for dumb shit in romance.
The main characters were flat and just plain weird. I couldn’t connect with them in any way and didn’t care about them. I found myself more interested in the side characters.
No crosses count ⭐️⭐️.6 This had a lot of potential but went steadily downhill for me. I LOVE TABOO and this was taboo alright. But I didn’t enjoy either of the main characters and I think the smut could’ve been way better. This one had a lot more potential since it was the longest out of hers but I feel like it still slacked a lot on forming a connection or caring about either of the characters. They both pissed me off. Some moments were hot and fun but the plot could have been way better. He should’ve groveled and she should’ve had personality.
LOVED this, loved the story and how she didn’t realise who he was but he knew her. Loved the spice. Would love to see more on these 2 and I’m looking forward to certain others getting their own books 🙌🏽
🏒 Dark Hockey Romance 🏒🩸 Blood related twins 🏒 Somniphils 🏒 Dark Academia 🏒 Dub/non con
Holy mother of intense shit for such a short story. Reese has a new life now, new parents and has a dark past and lost her brother and her dad. In the present she goes to this school, and the predator keeps watching her, but a guy by the name of Vaughn King lurks, but it can't be her twin since she lost him a long time ago.
Vaughn King has a British accent too?! Shut up sir. LOL. This story has a lot of dark elements to it. As per usual, with the wicked twisted duo tate and rory. They never fail to keep it extra forbidden and extra spicy. If you like very, very taboo and with dark elements, plus hockey, then definitely this would be a book for you! Cause Vaugh is OTT possessive and obsessive, touch her, and you'll die type of deal. Very Dark, VERY FORBIDDEN, very delish, and quick read too!
Well, Tate and Rory do what they do best. Fucked up taboo with a psycho possessive MC that makes you want to fall at their feet.
Vaughn and Reese. Twins. Yes, twincest 😈 Although the twins haven’t seen eachother for years, Reese is thrown by how much Vaughn reminds her of her twin brother, she is reeled in, and so the plot and theme begins of family secret lies and being kept apart.
Vaughn is unhinged, psycho, possessive, aggressive and absolutely obsessed over Reese. Reese is uncovering dark sides of herself that she kept hidden and the story then morphs into some hot times.
I will always love and adore how these ladies are so unapologetic in their writing of taboo and just go for it. They do it such justice. Loved it ladies.
The hype never meets the reality of what these authors actually put out. - Their books just aren't good. They are OTT (and not in a good way) and lame. - The premise & what was being portrayed online were intriguing. But the writing and end result just plain suck.
The never-ending inner monologues are beyond repetitive and boring-af.
All of the characters suck too. Like in almost every one of their books, their male characters are always ott assholes. While the female characters are annoying idiots.
And if you're reading these for purely the smut factor, they are nothing but a major disappointment.
I am so so glad I didn’t fall for these authors “banned baddies” bullshit Seriously never heard of them and before their books are even a thing they’re “banned” and can only be purchased from their site. Absolutely not. Almost fell for it a couple times cause the trope was good but thank god cause the story telling sucks. Also look at these not banned baddies shit on KU…
Banned baddies writing a taboo with 🩸 related twins (twincest), hockey players 🏒 , noncon/dubcon, violence, unaliving, dark academia college & more?! SIGN ME UP! Reese and Vaughn have been a rollercoaster to say the least.
Reese hasn’t seen her twin in 10 years due to an unfortunate event, however while attending Hillcrest on Violent peak mountain (IYKYK 🫣), she runs into Vaughn King who gives her the crazy feeling that she’s staring her twin brother right in the face. She figures that it can’t be true and tries having a fresh start at Hillcrest. Vaughn has Reese questioning her sanity and he doesn’t let up. Vaughn knows from the minute Reese looks at him, exactly who she is and he 100% plans on making her pay for how she made him feel. Vaughn is a ruthless, possessive, dominating, alpha hole that makes you want to fall to your knees for him. 🥵
I loved everything about this book. I loved the hockey included in it, the violence in it, and I especially loved the side characters in here. If this is your cup of tea I recommended picking this up and diving straight in. Once you get started on this rollercoaster, it’ll be hard to get off. Vaughn will definitely have you in a trap and if he doesn’t Reese will with her fearless personality. 🖤
Warning ⚠️ this book contains: 🩸related twins, noncon, drugs, dubcon, manipulation, v!olence, somno, unaliving, dark academia college, ice hockey, Parental @bu$3, & Breathe play
I went into this knowing what it was about but also knowing I’m probably not a blood relation taboo girly and reading it anyway, because of that I will not be leaving a star rating. I read it and have confirmation that I am in fact not a blood relation taboo girly and this entire situation made my stomach churn lol. I guess I really do have a limit 😂
If you do enjoy blood relation taboo then I’m still not sure this would be your jam. The writing really wasn’t that great. The characters repeat themselves a lot, the dialogue leaned toward cringe more than anything, and the smut was so short especially after all the shit talking the MMC does. In the end you really have no idea why the MMCs adoptive parents did what they did. It seemed like the book was written more for shock factor than for plot which is ok if it’s done well but it unfortunately wasn’t. And of course there just happened to be another twin pair there that the MCs speculated also wanted an incestuous relationship.
With all that said I do not agree with banning books and do not consent to having my review used in any way toward banning books. 🖕🏼
No Crosses Count by Rory Ireland and Tate Monroe is a dark taboo romance.
I love Tate and Rory's dirty minds and just can't help but devour their books. This book is an extreme taboo romance I would highly recommend reading the warnings before jumping in. This book is not for everyone.
I really enjoyed the chemistry between Vaughn and Reese. I loved that we got both of their points of views throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.
I don't want to give any spoilers away so I will just say if you love extreme taboo romances you should pick this one up today!
I don’t know what holds him back, but I suppose I’m not one to ask about the morality of fucking your sister. I do not give a fuck. I want to fuck my own, so who the hell am I to judge?
Look, it was better than Crooked Cove and I did enjoy most of book. It was a rather slow burn which I appreciated because it felt like there was more story than hitting straight to the taboo smut. And the somno scenes were definitely up my alley. 💦
But the last 25% was too rushed, and I felt too much was for shock value. The overuse of calling each other brother and sister 🙄 and Vaughn was just a little too cliché in how unhinged he was. 🤷🏻♀️ and Reese went from being a strong willed badass to just falling in line.
I think after reading 4 books from this author I can finally just say it’s the writing and weak plot development that I don’t love so this will likely be my last.
Taboo, hot, twisted!!! If incestuous relationship is something you are not a big fan of, then you better stay away from this one. These two are as close as you can get when it comes to being blood related.
The story is dark and violent. There is no denying that Vaughan is a psychopath but I guess after what happened to him, it's not a shocking discovery. He believes that his own sister abounded and forgotten him. After years of building up hatred and I'm pretty sure obsession towards his twin, he can finally get his revenge when Reese is enrolled into the same school. This has been carefully orchestrated plan to get him what he wants.
Reese, after the traumatic events that happened years ago, is not the same girl she used to be. A part of her died the day she thought her brother passed away, and the connection she lost with him couldn't be replaced. When her path crossed with Vaughan, unexpected feelings come to the surface. Dangerous attraction and strange bond towards a stranger is formed.
There are secrets that will have to be unravelled. Unspoken truths are waiting to hear! All comes beautifully together, and these two are just sinfully delicious 😈
If you are not afraid to venture into dark taboo stories, this will be something for you
Vaughn is giving Atlas and Cole a run for their money! This was another Banned Baddies super taboo (🩸 relations) that I binged and LOVED! Vaughn and Reese’s story has some similarities to Crooked Cove, if you’ve read it and which is another I highly recommend. Vaughn may not be quite as unhinged as Cole, but he definitely borders on morally black. Okay, maybe he IS morally black? Semantics.
“𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀, 𝗯𝗮𝗯𝘆.”
Vaughn and Reese’s backstory is one of tragedy. They had an unbreakable bond that only twins have and were completely inseparable until one fateful night changed everything for them. The aftermath sets the stage for two broken hearts, a broken promise, miscommunication with misplaced anger, and a driving need for retribution that will span years.
No Crosses Count brings us back to Hillcrest University on Violent Peak. Tragedy gives birth to the darkness in Vaughn. What started as a personal vengeance turns into obsession with undeniable lust. Now Reese has a new stalker with an eerily familiar face. I loved Reese in this story. She was a little spitfire that could definitely hold her own.
This slow burn gives way to the best tension filled build up until the flame is set ablaze and the inferno was nothing short of Banned Baddies greatness. I ate it up. I nearly read this in one sitting. Let’s say two sittings because ya girl started this on a Friday night and was already sleep deprived. But I finished it the next morning. Congratulations to Vaughn for making it on my OOT possessive and obsessive unhinged book boyfriends list. And thank you to Tate and Rory for always delivering the best characters, spice, banter, and forbidden relationships.
3.5 stars - this was kinda dark but hot. i’m giving it a 3.5 instead of 4 just because i wasn’t a fan of the Hero/brother.
after finding out the truth ab his sister & their separation, i wanted some grovelling from him regarding how mean he treated her and acted towards her. however, in the moment he found out, he kept the same act while the heroine was begging for forgiveness (for something that wasn’t even her fault).
even tho i wasn’t a big fan of him, i did like how ott j/p H was, and how he really mean touch-her-and-die.
the spice was hot. there was some dub/con kinda somnophilia stuff which was hot, as well as v rough sex & slapping (which isn’t my thing as much).
it was in 3rd person tho, which made it kinda confusing sometimes ngl.
regardless, good quick taboo read :P

***TRIGGER/CONTENT WARNING: Non-con and dub-con on page. Two on-page murders. I DNF'd so I don't know if there's anything else. ***
This chick was so stupid. Her brother called her "fire starter" in their last moments together, a scene she recollected VERY clearly, yet when this new guy repeatedly calls her "fire starter" and looks exactly like her brother, she just keeps marveling over how much this guy reminds her of him. I get that she's believed for ten years that he's dead, but she herself said that she looked everywhere for his grave or anything about what happened after she left, and she couldn't find anything. "Fire starter" is not a common pet name so there should've been some kind of acknowledgement of its renewed use, at least in her head.
