Asherah of Vine died five times in bloody service to her Queen, but now her Queen is dead.
The cycle of reincarnation has ended, and Ash is ready to set her trusty bow aside and live out the rest of her days in peace. All she wants is to live a quiet existence on the Rim, but her past, it seems, is intent on catching up with her. She's tried to outrun him, but he's not a man to be trifled with.
Willow of Herb has been hunting the butcher Asherah for over two hundred years. She slaughtered his parents and his people, and he intends to bring her to justice. It is because of her that he was turned into a weapon of war, and it is her face that haunts his darkest nightmares. When he finally catches her scent nothing can stop him, but what happens when he captures his greatest enemy and finds out that not everything is what it seems?
As they travel through the icy Lands of Nadir chased by a rival band of bounty hunters, Willow and Asherah must face their pasts and learn to work together if they wish to survive. Trust between enemies isn't easy to build, but as they fight Feral Fae, face down snowstorms, and run from Retribution, Will and Ash find that maybe they're stronger as allies than as enemies.
Born in a small Italian village, I went on a quest around the world and have finally settled into a magical cottage in PA. I write a lot, and I read a lot. Love all fantasy and sci-fi, especially if it features diverse characters or authors.
My ratings:
5 stars - Wonderful. I loved reading it, had a great time, and will likely read it again and talk about it with my friends. 4 stars - good, solid, enjoyable book. I had fun and while I may not read it again, I'm glad I did. 3 stars - Not particularly memorable, but I'm happy I found it. While it may not have been my cup of tea, I'm glad it exists. 2 stars - This had issues. Not unreadable, but not something I finished or enjoyed in the end. 1 star - DNF or read because I am a masochist to loves pain. Someone else might love it, but it was not for me. No rating: Either I haven't gotten around to writing a review, I didn't finish it, or it was not my genre of choice and therefore I chose not to review it because I am not the intended audience.
What is worse than reading a bad book? Reading an UNDERRATED INCREDIBLE BOOK THAT NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT.
This series is incredible and I didn’t think it would get better than the first one, but good lord this book was SO GOOD. Devastating, sickening, heartbreaking AND AMAZING. I loved learning more about Willow and Kia and their relationship. I CANNOT wait for the next book! I need it NOW.
After absolutely adoring the first book in The Mountain Fell series, there was no way I'd miss reading this. Was I hoping to see more of Ilyas? Of course I did! Because 'Mr.Stick-up-his-butt' had become one of my all-time favourite book boyfriends, topping even the badass Lucivar Yaslana. Black Jewels fans - if you ain't read A Bond of Thread you're seriously missing out!
Now back to the review, before I start drooling over a certain winged Lord Heart. Again. A Peddler of Chains does not pick up from the end of A Bond of Thread. It gives us a separate tale unfolding in parallel to the first, featuring two other characters briefly mentioned in book 1 - Willow of Herb and Asherah of Vine. And if you thought book 1 was dark, hang on to your seats ladies and gents and get yourself a big box of tissues and maybe some cream for the nails to remember you're not supposed to bite them, because this one is way .... MORE. In every damn way. It's darker and heavier, more deeply layered and with even more depth.
A Peddler of Chains is one of those books that aren't quite that easy to read, due to a whole bucket load of triggers, a couple of absolutely heartbreaking scenes and the overall darker tone of the story that is bound to get to any reader out there. Because of the feeling bleeding from the pages. This book will make you sigh and cry. It will make you angry and it might just frustrate you to the point of wanting to hurl the kindle at the wall. Been there. Didn't do that. Because it was a kindle and I can't afford replacing it right now. But had I been reading a paperback, it would have kissed the wall, hurled with all my might.
'For those still fighting, and those who walked away.'
In this second part of The Mountain Fell series, 'loyalty will be tested and love will be lost, friends will fall and dreams will shatter.' All alongside Willow and Ash. One on a search for justice, hunting the woman who'd turned him into a a weapon of war; the other hoping to live out her days in peace and alone. Tied together by a chain neither wants but both need, they'll have to face not only the guilt and horror of their past, but also their darkest nightmares. And learn to work together if they wish to survive.
I loved Willow, but Ash stole my heart. Her pain and her sorrow, her longing and her hope... Damn! I just wanted to snatch her up. wrap her in a warm blanket and keep her safe. Ash is INCREDIBLE. Unforgettably remarkable.
The plot is great and full of surprising twists, the wordbuilding is excellent and the character development masterfully done. All of it in a way that manages to upend all expectations and shatter almost every single assumption. And then that end... Holy frigging shirt! That's the kind of end bound to get a reaction out of every single reader out there. 'But, but, but... Come on!!! What about her!!!!" - That was mine. And now I wish I had the sequel already, to know what happens next.
All in all, A Peddler of Chains is an excellent enemies to lovers dark romantic fantasy, that will appeal to any high fantasy fan out there, especially those who love Anne Bishop. It's epic, dark and full of feeling. Deeply layered and very well written, this is a tale of fear and prejudice, guilt and redemption, acceptance and understanding, healing, hope and love. It may not appeal quite as much to those in search of fast paced action since it relies heavily on introspection at times, but it's an absolute treat for anyone who appreciates masterful character development and great food for thought.
This one's a must read people! A damn fine read if you ask me!
Happy reading everyone. 'May the wind be at your back, and Mountain bless your steps.'
Anything I write would not be able to describe this book in any way to do it justice but I'll try to capture an essence of what I went through reading this magnificent, incredible, overwhelmingly astounding book!
Book 1 was a spectacular read but I was NOT prepared for the sequel to surpass it by a mile! Make that 10 miles, no, 100 miles! When someone says, *I couldn't put it down" they have no idea, I was ready to snap/bite/kill anyone who was keeping me from reading. I started and finished today, I couldn't tear myself away. So immersed was I, I thought I was going to drown in my churning emotions, absorbing every word and event like a sponge, fearing a single drop would somehow escape.
It's very difficult to convey how wondrous this magical world is, where the colour of your eyes reflect your place in it, a lesser Fae or Fair Folk as they prefer to call themselves, High Fae or Elder Fae. One such Elder Fae, the Peddler should be renamed the Meddler! Described as one to avoid, to be wary of, to not bargain with him lest the price one pays is way too high. Only, as the story progresses, I started to doubt my own impressions of him, there is so much more to him than an ancient Elder Fae trying to dupe anyone. What that could be will undoubtedly be revealed in a later book. I'm definitely looking forward to reading what his true intentions are.
The characters sucked me in so much that I WAS them! They are magnificent, complex, and staggeringly full bodied and fully fleshed out. Willow and Ash/Kia are the 2 prominent characters, as they weave their way through the book, their exploits, what they face, the cruelty, the lies and misinformation come crashing down on then. The trust these two eventually form, dispute being mortal enemies for centuries, the bond they form and their journey to get there was one of the most astounding hair-raising read. So many players in this epic novel deserve to be mentioned but I can't write pages and pages! All I can say is this book is not to be passed over, this book needs reading. This book will stay with me for a long long time, mulling it over and over in my mind. It's a book that won't release me anytime soon and I can say with full conviction I'll be the first to read the next book in this series!
I inhaled this book in almost one sitting. I loved the first book, A Bond of Threads, diving into the complex world of the Mountain Fells with its nine lands, the magical skills and the magical power of an individual guaged by the colour of their gaze. Such a wonderfully clever magic system.
I had to let the book digest for a day or so, before I was ready to write this review, and I must admit I doubt I'll do it justice.
A Peddlers of Chains, runs parallel to A Bond of Threads and introduces us to some new characters, Willow and Asheran. And oh my, are your emotions going to be put through the ringer! There is much misunderstood about the 'Bloody Six' who supported the Mad Queen Maevian, and we get to find out a little more in this book, and it is heart wrenching.
This is a dark and gritty tale, and their are a few trigger warnings, but the subjects are handled sympathetically and it instils in you the need to protet these poor characters, and how could these authors put them through so much misery? (I know I can't talk, but my heart goes out to Asheran.) It all goes a long way to shift your perspective, not that it helps them much!
The excerpts at the beginning of each chapter are a tease for the chapter, but not always directly connected, and they just add to the complexity of the story. The Rhyming conversation with the peddlar is just sublime. I must admit it took me a while to realise who Plume was, and where she fits but I can't wait to get to know her better.
I seriously can't wait for the next book. The fact that their are nine members of the Queen's Ring for us to meet, and we have now met four, means we have a long way to go!! Which means lots more books for us, thankfully!
If you love gritty, complex Epic Fantasy with amazing characters, then you'll love this and I highly recommend the series.
I will say, before I even get into the proper review, that once I finished this book, I was up for several hours just running it over in my brain. If I’d had a physical copy, I would have chucked it across the room, because the authors just took my heart and ripped it out. Why would you do that?! I loved it. Okay, on to the review.
1. Thoughts on the plot A Peddler of Chains is the second book in the Mountain Fell series, so there are some details that you absolutely need to read book one for (which is also fantastic). But this book follows Willow of Herb as he tries to hunt down the infamous Asherah the Red, a warrior from the other side in the long-ended War that has been his obsession for years. But once he finds Ash, she claims that she isn’t the person he’s looking for. They both have to relive and forgive terrible things, all while discovering why it is, exactly, that they can’t seem to leave each other’s thoughts. Okay, that’s a poor description for how twisty and imaginative this book is. It’s definitely dark, with some very intense scenes, but the plot itself was just…my goodness. Every time I thought that things couldn’t possibly get more dramatic, more intense, they DID! By the ending, I was engrossed and so sad that it was over.
2. Thoughts on the characters Ash and Willow are so very interesting. They’re not my normal favourites for character archetypes (the big bad warrior, that is) but I was fascinated with their depth and development. I really enjoyed the banter, and the way they looked out for each other? Yep. All the other characters, too, were quite fascinating in their own way. I really loved Maeve in this, probably because I wasn’t sure whether to throttle her or thank her. I think the way it was depicted was fantastic, and I was rooting for her at the very end. I want to know more about everybody! Except Moss. He can stuff it.
3. Favourite part That ending! My goodness, can you bring any more drama to the table?
4. Critique My only critique is that it ended, and now I have to wait for the next book. Harumph.
Overall, A Peddler of Chains is an excellent book, designed for really getting into your head and taking over your thoughts. I would highly recommend this book.
Wow! This book was a whirlwind of emotions. The authors did an excellent job of really delving into the minds of those who have suffered horrific tragedies but come out stronger on the other end. I love how both Willow and Ash are such complex characters who make a lot of mistakes, but still hold onto their humanity.
I cried and laughed and went through the entire spectrum of emotions while reading this story. Willow and Ash, and their attempts to do right by each other, made me feel angry and hopeful and everything in between. The villains in this book are truly sadistic and evil, to the point where I was actually afraid of them, which is truly a testament to how engaging this story is and how well-written the characters are.
This book was a masterclass in writing about characters suffering from PTSD. It was also sufficiently steamy (the scenes were somewhat closed-door), given the tragic circumstances and fast-paced nature of the plot. The enemies-to-lovers romance was well-done and very interesting due to the centuries of history the characters have with each other. Overall, this was a heart-wrenching yet hopeful story about morally gray characters who are trying their best to save the world.
I received a free ARC via BookFunnel and am voluntarily leaving this review.
Let's start with the fact that I'm not really a kind of romance person. Never my go to in books or movies. I was given and advanced copy of the first book of the mountain fell series as well as the peddler of chains for an honest review. I would have never expected to wind up so engaged in this series!! I absolutely love the developing of the 2 new characters that we get to learn more of in this second book. I really enjoy how the authors are taking their time in the books to go in depth with every character so that you have a good understanding of them before moving on and ultimately weaving all the different storylines together. All the characters met up to now are extremely layered and there's no white or black but endless shades of grey. The world created in the series is extremely fascinating and makes you want to dive deep in reading making it hard to put down!! Except when you know that you are close to the ending and you find yourself reading the slowest you can as you don't want it to end! Alas I have ended reading the Peddler and I'm just aching for when the next book will come out!! If you like fairies, fantasy and steamy romance you should definitely read these books, you won't be disappointed!
I am very grateful that the author sent me an eARC of this book! I wasn’t sure what to expect going in to this one since we were following different characters but after a few chapters I was once again invested in this world it’s magic and the characters. I was thrilled when I realized it was Willows story and also Ash’s as well. The backstories for these two characters is heartbreaking and painful to read about but also frustrating and confusing. The author did such an amazing job flushing these characters out and interweaving their stories with what we already know from the first book and I didn’t find it hard at all to sink back into this world and all it has to offer. One thing that did bother me a little bit was how much repeating of things we got. For example: when we would be in the characters heads we would be reminded all the time of how they are enemies and how much they don’t want to want each other. While I understand that their characters are internally feeling this I didn’t think we needed a reminder every chapter. Other than that I’m really excited to see what happens next and how everything we learned come the first book and this one plays out next. Highly recommend this series!
I was a little concerned about reading a sequel that didn't really share a lot of characters with the first book, but I should have known better than to doubt Allegra Pescatore and E. Sands! This book almost reminded me of an RPG quest line as every time the characters thought they'd achieved their goal they realized something else was needed instead. You could feel how exhausted they were becoming as each goal was moved away from them, which made it easy to root for them to succeed. And seeing a sympathetic side of a character I didn't think I could ever like was such an interesting journey as events came to light that even made me see events from the first book differently. I risk spoilers if I say more, so I'll just say if you loved book one, you'll definitely love book two! Now excuse me while I rock back and forth in a corner with my feelings until the next one in the series comes out...
This book has so much depth to it, there are a ton of layers, and I kind of felt like I needed more time to really get to know and understand the characters. Maybe if there'd been a way to read through some of the past lives or to have gotten to know the characters in some way over the first book I wouldn't have felt like I was trying to catch up with the incredible amount of history between them. Compared to the first book, this one is definitely a harder story to fall into because this, and it is why I'm not able to give a full 5 stars.
That said, I adore this world. It is amazingly unique in a sea of fae based fantasy novels. I'm very much looking forward to being able to re-read this, I am absolutely certain there are details I've missed this first time.
It's taken me a few hours to pull myself back together again to write this review after reading this book. I will try to do Allegra and Erika's book the justice it deserves* in this review.
This series concerns The Mountain Fell, a world of different faerie lands all with their own magic and rich history. This is a multi-author project, with different authors collaborating on different stories concerning different couples. A lovely set up for fantasy romance, yes?
Yes. In the most kick-ass, blood-pumping, soul-wrenching, heart-breaking way possible.
More context: There are capital K and Q Kings and Queens, who each have their own capital R Ring. There are different roles on the Ring, and once you take your place, you are part of your King or Queen's soulbonded. This is a platonic but still very deep bond between kindred spirits (and you know I like me some of that!) If you die, that's okay, because soulbonded are reincarnated so they can continue to serve their King or Queen. Great, with me so far, okay.
But one of the Queens went mad. Their Ring spread terror throughout the Mountain Fell, and none more so than the Bloody Six, the soulbonded closest to the Queen carrying out her horrific commands. One faerie, Willow, hunts them down one by one, and brings them to justice. When he finally finds the very last reincarnation of his sworn enemy, it's On.
This book will rip your heart out. It explores reincarnation and the horrors and brilliance thereof, the soul bonding and how it impacts your wants and freedoms, and a truly bloody enemies to lovers against the backdrop of different allegiances in the Fae Realm.
Trigger warnings: pay attention to them if you need them, because this kicked my butt. I use content warnings for one issue I just don't like reading about, and otherwise I consider myself pretty steel stomached about everything else, but I had to reach out to Allegra for an emotional support meme.
The scenes are so vivid, so absolutely well-written I was THERE, and it was pretty intense.
The payoff is absolutely worth it. I will be devouring this series piece by piece*. Get on this mountain if you want well-written stories that will shatter your heart and rebuild it all in one volume.
*the little stars are in jokes I hope other readers will get. I couldn't resist being punny!
I love the rhythm and intensity of the Mountain Fell series. The characters have depth and soul, and you’re deliciously dragged along through all their ups and downs. Who needs the real world when you have these characters? The world building in this series is epic. It's not overwhelming bit there are so many layers and levels and unique spins on the world's inhabitants that you fall in love with the side characters as much as the mains. I can't wait for book 3!
Highly recommended. It's worth every second of your time.
I was hooked from Book 1-2 impatiently waiting for the next book & more. Just like book 1, I devoured this story & finished it within 24 hours. Honestly, I didn't sleep because I couldn't put it down. It's just too good. Action packed from start to finish, wondeful world building, great characters, great emotions, so many surprises in this book & finally understanding that nothing is what it seems. That you have to understand there are 2 sides to a coin. The cliffhanger is driving me nuts bec there is no schedule yet for the next book & it's quite frustrating.
Ashrah was sent by her Queen to kill Willow of Herb because of something her Seer saw coming in the future. Just one problem Ash doesn't kill children. She killed his parents and people but chased Willow off and told him not to return.
Willow was made into a weapon for the war and is unbeatable, he has killed Ash at least five times while allowing her to live other times. Now Ash's Queen is dead so if she dies now she won't come back.
The war is over and Willow is searching for Ash so she can face justice. He wants her punished but not killed. When he finds her she is going by the name Kiarian and is not at all like the old Ash. So the trip to Lichen begins. They must survive snowstorms, Feral Fae, and Retribution, the bounty hunters of Lichen.
This is what happens when you finally realize how thin the line is between love and hate. Really looking forward to the next book. Love these flawed but basically good people.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 Willow has hunted the butcher his whole life. He has killed her numerous times already, and now the Mad Queen is dead, this is her last life. Asherah is on her last life and just wants to be left alone to to live it in peace. But when she is trapped by Willow to be taken to the place of her nightmares they both must face their pasts, fight together and find find what neither of them realized they were searching for.
⚡️Enemies to lovers
⚡️Check those triggers
⚡️Reincarnation and past lives
⚡️Fae magic and lots of action.
After I finished book 1 in the Mountain Fell series I IMMEDIATELY dove into this book. I was so hooked on the Skye and Ilyas story I needed more, when I realized it was about another couple within the same world/timeline I admit I was disappointed. But that feeling lasted a only a minute because I fell inlove with these new characters!!! Willow is a beautiful soul with an incredibly sad backstory, Asherah is strong and independent but so totally and utterly broken by her past. Thry both have such terrible trauma and yet they try so hard to be resilient and better that who they used to be and I just loved them so much. Like the first book there's lots of banter and I love the whole Enemies to lovers trope. And although the love is pretty well established (though unacknowledged) before the book begins you still get the sense that this was a slow burn of epic proportions!! I also loved how it didn't feel like I was dumped in the middle of the story like some Reincarnation stories can feel. Even though there is a bit of spicy romance this is primarily a fantasy with a lot of action both between the MC and external foes. I loved the action scenes just as much as I loved the bantering scenes!
One thing to be aware of is that this book has a lot of trigger warnings and if you are in anyway affected by some of these triggers, maybe give this a miss. As someone who only has 1 trigger (and it does appear in this book) I wanted to try it out because I LOVED the first book so much and im glad that I did. I felt the way it was written it showed respect for those with triggers while balancing being graphic enough to get the point across, its a fine line and I thought it was done very well.
The worst thing about this book is that next book is currently not out yet and I can feel a book hangover coming on... all I can think about is what happens next. And with the sneak peak at the end of the book (which I wish I had not read) I'm left craving more! Fingers crossed for my sanity while I (impatiently) wait for book 3...
Triggers: so many, please check the list before reading!
This book is number two in the Mountain Fell story arc (part of the wider Project AO universe) and runs concurrently with the events in book one, A Bond of Thread.
In this story we meet long-time enemies Asherah of Vine and Willow of Herb as they find themselves forced together and are horrified to discover that the monster of their nightmares might actually be their soulmate.
Ash and Willow have great chemistry together and feel like a more intuitive match than Skye and Ilyas of the previous book. Their trauma, experiences and status all feel well-balanced and so I felt like they were meeting on a level-playing field and at a time in both their lives when they are tired and ready for change.
The romance is very much clean/sweet/closed-door, but the battle scenes and other violent interludes contain some very disturbing mental, physical and sexual torture, so this is definitely a book for adult and/or less sensitive readers.
We get some more insight into ‘Mad Queen’ Maevian and her Ring as the wider plot continues to unfold around the very personal one of the two main characters. That’s not to say that this couldn’t be simply read as a standalone book, but I love knowing the context and worldbuilding!
I was so relieved when Ash and Willow finally crossed paths with Skye and Ilyas, after the cliffhanger at the end of Book 1 and I am still desperate to know what happens next! Will Skye get her full Ring of Nine? We know of four at the moment – two of Vine, one of Herb and one of Lichen – or rather, five if you count the sneak peak into Grass in the preview, and I am dying to wade through the inevitable grief and trauma coming and make it to a triumphant finale where peace and unity is finally an option for the heroes… please?!
This book left me with the same immediate urgency to read on that I got from Allegra Pescatore’s Last Gift series and I am following ALL of the Project AO authors to ensure I don’t miss any releases in this amazing mixed-genre collaboration.
"A Peddler of Chains" by Allegra Pescatore and J.P Burnison
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was such an interesting read. I continue to love the worldbuilding in this series, most of which, is through the main characters. 'A Peddler of Chains' is dialogue heavy and has lots of character interactions.
My favorite character, was 'The Peddler'. This book is worth reading, just for the sake of this character. We only technically 'see' him for a chapter...but the weight of that chapter is perhaps more than any other in the book. I love the concept of, 'What are you willing to give...for something you want?' (HIGH STAKES BABY!!!) And I love that this character speaks in riddles. It also gave me a sense of what 'Elder Fae', really were. We never meet an Elder Fae in 'A Bond of Thread' but we do hear of them. And now, I have some kind of sense...why you don't treat their interactions lightly.
These authors know how to write a good villain(s). MAN. I hated that guy. HATED. Part of me wanted revenge...but the other half of me wishes him healing...in some way. You ever wonder, how someone could become so rotten?! Like, what has happened that made them so sour? He's one of those types.
Now I gotta' be all angry that Book Three is not available yet. 🤣
Give this one a go!
My only feedback to authors - I'd love to see more fantastical creatures, because IT'S ME...and I did spot a plethora of typo's and errors in the text. I think the biggest thing keeping this one from being a 'masterpiece' is the editing...but if that could be addressed...
This is book 2 in the Mountain Fell series. In this book, we get to meet Willow (Will) and Asherah (Ash/Kia). For most of their lives, they have been hunting each other, being on opposing sides of the war. Willow had killed Ash over and over until the war ended. Now he is hunting her as a war criminal for a bounty. Having already turned in her former bond mates, she is the last on his list. All Ash wants is to live out the rest of her final life in peace and quiet. But once Willow finds her, nothing is peaceful or quiet. Esp. when they encounter the Peddler, an Elder Fae who makes tricky deals. I enjoyed book 1, but this book was a whole other level! I was warned this would be a ride, and that it was!! This book was definitely darker than the first as well. There are some possibly triggering themes as well. But in the midst of all that, it makes you completely rethink everything you thought you knew of the first book. Who is the real villain in all of this. And Willow and Ash are such complex characters. They both have been through so much trauma, esp at each other's hands. And now that they are stuck together, they are forced to deal with all of their feelings both good and bad towards each other. They both learn more than they could ever have imagined about each other and it literally turned my world upside down learning what happened to Ash (and Maeve!) Knowing that there are more bond mates out there, I would really love to read more about this world! And I would love to see how the ones we have met interact with the new Queen of Earth and Sky!
After finishing the first book in this series (A Bond of Thread), I was so over the moon to venture through this amazing sequel! It's the ideal follow-up to the first book. Though I was surprised by how this story started (and how it ultimately links to the pilot book), I was quickly enveloped in its unique approach to the world of The Mountain Fell. Through the protagonists' perspectives, I've definitely gained a more well-rounded understanding of this fantastic literary universe.
Like the first book in the series, this tale introduces you to a wondrous cast of characters who fight for their place in your heart and simultaneously make you question their perspective. There's no single way to interpret any story, so this book gives you multiple angles on the ins and outs of The Mountain Fell during its time of war and rebirth.
It's difficult to expand more on my boundless love for and investment in this series. Every single day, I rush home to have my reading time (accompanied by a cup of tea). I forcibly pace myself to keep from binge-reading through these amazing chronicles. I simply cannot wait for the next addition to this series!!
I started this book and was immediately incredibly disappointed that it was not following the characters I had become invested in in the first book. This disappointment faded very quickly.
New (kind of) characters, new dynamics and the joys of a man with hard won composure having it pulled away from him with very little to hold him back. (Joys for me reading that is)
Big Bad Guy is set up in this book, although little is known about their motivation currently. I can't wait to see more from this group of authors, and I desperately want to read what they offer (even if it seems it will be several books until we return to any couples we've already seen)
The worst part about this book is that it ended! Honestly cannot get enough of this setting, even with the darker/grittier tones of this book (which were well-TW’d in advance) it didn’t take away from the magic for me. The characters’s backstories were so heartbreaking and I’m so glad they were able to come together, understand and forgive each other. I don’t have a single complaint.
