Atom, the eldest of seven amphibleon alien brothers, doesn't have time for delays or risks. He has a very short window to sell his crystals and get himself, his ship, and his brothers back home. Only, all of his safe plans go out the spaceship window when he locks eyes with a human - a human trapped in a restaurant with a menu filled with all the ways she'll eaten.
The only one that's going to eat her... is him, and he won't need a fork and knife.
Meela, a human, has been abducted for a month. She used to dream about sci-fi adventures, but she's given up on being interested in the brutal universe seemingly just out of reach. Then, in the space of less than twenty-four hours, she's bought by an alien named Atom, "freed", and then drawn into a whirlwind of danger and chaos - all without warning. Her saviour isn't just bad at communicating - he's The Worst Communicator In The Universe.
Worse? He thinks she's his mate.
Atom opens the eight book sci-fi romance series of seven abductees falling in love with seven aliens. This is part one. Part One does NOT have a Happily Ever After!!! The conclusion of Atom and Meela's story will come after the release of the other six brothers.
4.5 // I had the best time reading this. Inspired by the old Hollywood film Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Becca created a sci-fi alien romance version that is absolutely charming.
This isn’t the abduction to sex trafficking tale that is so prevalent in alien romance. But rather, the humans were abducted to be on the menu at a space station restaurant in edge-space. Enter a half human/alien hybrid who, along with his six brothers, ends up rescuing the remaining women and escape authorities to hide out on their hidden planet for 13 months at a time—no in or out.
Despite the meet cute, there’s kindness, humor, longing, suspense, spice, and a very detailed account of what happened to some of the humans who didn’t survive the restaurant.
Along the way we’re able to glean details about the alien brothers family life. There’s a lot of vintage earth details scattered in amongst all the modern tech; my favorite being their ship which is a mashup of vintage British fighter jet steering, alien space tech, and gunner stations that resemble 80s arcade game consoles.
It is such a fun read. Book 1 is Atom and Meela, rescuing the humans, and introducing all the brothers. Books 2-7 will each feature a brother and his chosen human and while every couple will have an HEA, Atom and Meela won’t get theirs until book 8. If you’ve seen the film, you understand why. We already know where it’s headed and I love Becca’s fresh take on it all. I can’t wait for book 2.
...hence me being excited by this emerging series. But, I was also wary because while I liked the Orc series the succubus one left me with nightmares. Don't ask me why gore and cannibalism doesn't bother me but forced prostitution in order to survive does. Because one you can live through and therefore recover from, the other involves you being digested and therefore dead. Being a survivor of SA may be the factor, and that series did NOT have warnings posted. But, anyway, this one was interesting. There are 7 alien brothers, and 7 humans still alive on the station. One brother walks in, sees the human, and the rest is very similar to the musical. Only, no music, no dancing (well, not *that* kind anyway), the chase involves a rickety spaceship instead of a wagon, there's a pass but more of a passage through a planet's rings, and we leave off right as that ends. Meela finally finds her words and let's Atom have it with both barrels. Some of it is true, some of it is due to perspective, some of it is fear, and some is residual from 30+ days of trauma bubbling out. But, just like Adam, Atom goes off to solitude. I am curious as to how the HEAs will be achieved. This isn't just placating the girls' parents by marrying to clear away any "shame". This is an evil empire that embraces slavery, eating sentients as animals just because they haven't achieved space exploration yet, and slaughters their own for procreating with other species. Only...I'm not sure how that works, either. The author mentioned that only males are born because the females all died with their home planet. So...who/what are they breeding with now in order to not die out? I have questions lol. Are they all just clones? Because if hybrids aren't allowed, they all look exactly the same, and there's no females, ... I'm guessing clones. Or, maybe because the females were described as coral like beings, they revert to a polyp and regrow? Which is still sort of cloning as it isn't involving new genetic material. And I'm going to have some weird dreams tonight I can just tell it lol.
I have never had so many conflicting feelings about a book. This is the opener to the rest of the series. It is part 1 of the final story. The beginning was hard to get through because it actually makes you feel the despair and horror these women went through. But I for real think it makes the heart warming times so much more heart-warming. The way these guys had me giggling through a battle scene. I really really loved this read. Not sure I will be okay until this story is complete
I really enjoyed this retelling of the movie 7 brides for 7 brothers. Now you've probably heard about another author doing a retelling for this movie. While I did enjoy the other series I can already tell I'm gonna like this one better. The writing and the world building is better and the character development and pacing works better here.
Meela and 6 other humans are abducted and find themselves on the menu on a space station. This was a fresh take on the human abduction trope. Food instead of sex isn't something that's done often. When Atom sees her he can't help himself and needs to save her. I enjoyed getting to know him first and I'm gonna love getting to know all 6 of his brothers! They only get their hea after the other brothers which follows the movie.
An Alien retelling of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers!
I’m a huge fan of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and definitely love alien romance! This gave me all the feels! I can’t wait for all the brothers to have a book. Meela and Atom don’t have their happily ever after just yet, like in the movie their happily ever after comes after the brothers find their HEA. (Also the first spicy scene was PHENOMENAL)
Holy cow. I am floored at the masterpieces this author has released. The dialogue is amazing, the characters are relatable, the spice is hot, the plot is even better. There are not enough words. This is the first retelling of seven wives for seven brothers I have ever read and I have to say that future books written by different authors are going to have a impossible time knocking this out of the number one spot. Well done Becca!
I just finished reading Ean and loved it. It had a great backstory and interesting characters, even the side characters were very well done. So based on that I purchased this book after reading a sample ...and it went downhill from there. No backstory and the side characters have about 2 lines each. Very immature writing and childish characters
Atom and Meela are such strong characters. I couldn't help wanting them to fall in love. Well written. I enjoyed the book. I am looking forward to the other books in the series. hurry, hurry!!
