Rate this book

When a Swedish intelligence officer goes missing in the Arctic, the Polarpol team is tasked to investigate.

As acting commander of Polarpol, Etienne Gagnon (RCMP) puts together a team of law enforcement specialists to investigate Mats Lindström’s disappearance. But when the Swedish officer is declared missing, presumed dead, in the mountains, the investigation takes an unexpected turn.

Thwarted by foreign agents linked to a shrewd and powerful organisation, Gagnon realises that the search for Lindström is just one part of a larger plot threatening his team, and stability in the Arctic.

Mountain Ghost is the second book in Christoffer Petersen’s Polarpol Arctic Task Force thriller series. If you like Matthew Reilly’s Scarecrow Series and Bear Grylls' Will Jaeger books then you’ll love Christoffer Petersen’s police action thriller.

I've read Northern Light and The Bolivian Girl: A Hard-Hitting Special Forces Action Thriller and now Mountain Ghost, all the books Christoffer Petersen says to read before Mountain Ghost. It's a benefit to have these books behind me in reading Mountain Ghost. But this is a recap of what had happened in the previous books plus some new data and Byrne Cantrell eliminating some people and ending up getting away. Etienne, Hákon, and others were made to hunt for Mats Lindström in Sweden for he had put the data he had found on the cloud on to a USB stick. He was hiding on Kebnekaise, Sweden's tallest mountain. Christoffer uses different people to pull together the idea of having cars letting different services spy on citizens. Read it for the fun it contains and wait for the next book.

So enjoyable!

It's been a long time since I read the first PolarPol novel and in places reading this one I wished I'd refreshed my memory beforehand, but tbh it was ok to read as a stand alone. I've read LOADS of the author's work in the past (I love Maratse & Petra, & Capt Erroneous, to name but a few!) but recently a bunch of other stuff has pushed him somewhat aside, and returning to Mountain Ghost I was delighted anew with just how much I enjoy his work. This twisty and turning plot was riveting and intriguing and, frankly, I wished I'd slowed down a bit to properly concentrate on who was who and on which side, but I was so caught up in the action I couldn't brook any delay! It was great to be back with the team as the action unfolded between England and Sweden, and your loyalties are switched about until you're not sure any more who to trust! Can't wait for the next instalment - and really miss being able to tell Chris so on Twitter!

Didn't like it

This was not up to Petersen's usual brilliance. It seemed scattered, hurriedly written and badly edited and translated. Was the author under the influence of some thriller series he was reading at the time? I am still not sure who was on what side and why that particular ending which didn't make sense. The body count was unnecessary and gratuitously high. I like the concept of the series and am wondering whether there will be more than the two in the near future.

Loved This! Need the next one

I really love this group of characters so much. I’ve finished both books in the PolarPol series now, and I’m anxiously awaiting the next book in the series.
