It’s 2010, he’s in his forties and Nick is throwing everything he has into developing his new app. An adventure game where the player can use time travel to try to change history and he’s sure it will be a hit. As he loads in important dates in history, something unexpected happens.
He’s gone back in time.
August 13, 1977, Memphis, Tennessee, not far from Graceland, Nick tries to come to grips with the impossible. Maybe he has been working too hard and it’s a dream? Can it be real?
It didn’t matter.
Nick knew he had just three days to save the King.
What’s his first move?
You’ll love this time-travel thriller; because Paul Farmer gives us the perfect mix of tension, humour, and twists to keep you turning the pages.
Nick Cantello is a life-long lover of all things Elvis and he's trying to save him from dying on August 16th, 1977. He knows that time-travel isn't possible and, after all, his technological prowess extends to creating apps, but he's going to log the critical information into his phone and let the app do its magic. When a power surge creates a blue flash of light, the next thing he knows he finds himself in Memphis on August 13th, 1977. Three days to save the King! This is a uniquely inventive story with so many details, real and imagined. I take issue with the reviews that criticize that the facts were off and it's not how it really happened. This story is based on the life and "death" of Elvis Presley...it's not a documentary of Elvis Presley. I enjoyed the characters who were central to his career, and the secondary characters who really fleshed out the story.I have to admit that it was a breath of fresh air for Priscilla to be an essential figure in helping Nick show Elvis what he had to do in order to stay alive. This is a wonderfully-written book and Simon B. Kelly's narration was just about perfect. His dynamic voice with its intonation and emotion brought each character to life with a unique personality and sound.
A fun alternative history read with a time travel twist. This was a much needed light read for me and I appreciated the authors humor. As stated in the book I do remember where I was when I heard the tragic news of the death of Elvis. It was a sad day for music. The thought of Elvis living into his 80's is a pleasant one. If I had a time machine to go back in time to save a famous person Elvis would be at the top of the list for me as well.
A fun story of time travel, in an effort to save Elvis, three days before he died. Whether I had a strange edition of the book, I'm not sure, but I've never ever read a book in my life without PAGE NUMBERS! Also the writing was compressed into the middle of each page with a big space of nothing above and below. Strange presentation.
But despite that Elvis fans will bathe in it, I'm sure.
While it’s a fun read, you need to clear up some large time errors: OMG was not used in 1967 (perhaps my God,but not omg, fist pumps weren’t used, either. Two errors loom large: 1. Elvis didn’t wear the white jumpsuit until 1970. 2. Bobby Darin died in 1973, you have him alive in 1977 at the fireworks. On the wonderfully positive side….how I wish it were true!
As someone who is not keen on Elvis (sorry Paul), I started this book with some trepidation. Well, I was intrigued from the start. The story kept me involved from the start, and the characters, apart from the obvious ones, really came to life. The ending could have gone anyway, but I really enjoyed the whole book.
If you love Elvis then this book is for you. It's a simple read. The time travel method is a little silly, but it gets you where you need to be. There are some anachronisms that other readers have pointed out. For Elvis fans, it's a must-read, Elvis, with a time twist!
If you are a fan of Elvis or time travel and looking for a fun, quick read this summer then you can't do much better than Paul Martin Farmer's "3 Days to Save a Legend". You can tell that Farmer did his research.
If you are wondering what might have happened if Elvis survived then I recommend this book.
