‘Daughter of the Blood Moon’ they call her. ‘The winner of the war’ they said. ‘The princess that will bring the gods back’ they claim.
War is waging between the Black Bloods and the Paragon Dawn. The time has come for the other kingdoms to pick a side. Except there’s one thing that will get in the way of pledging their unwavering allegiance: every king wants Princess Devereux’s heart on a platter, or worse, a ring around her finger.
Her plan is simple; find the witch that cursed her and stay hidden in plain sight so the prophecy may never come to life. Only one of those two things has been doable; running from her crown was easy; dabbling in black-market trade has its benefits; getting rid of the curse, however, seems to be a fallacy.
Her truth will be found in the pages of a long-forgotten book. But some books aren’t meant to be read. Some doors should never be unlocked. Because when he comes out, he’s not going back in. And once he is out, there’s no telling what monsters will crawl out of Hell with him.
Oh! What a rollercoaster ride I have had with this beautifully crafted story! The book had all the beloved tropes I adore, and I relished every single moment of it! The thought of waiting until 2024 for the continuation of this riveting tale seems nearly unbearable—I fear I won't be able to endure the anticipation!😭
The banter !!! The relationship building the adventure building. Urg it gave me all the feels . I felt how I felt when I read the throne of glass which is my favorite series ever!
Amazingly written and fast paced !I haven't read anything like ittt . A ghost like uber powerful dude bonded to the fmc that can touch and communicate only with her. Um yes please
And soooo many die hard swoon worthy quotes and moments!!!
"There's nothing I wouldn't do for you . If you want a palace , I'll build one with my bare hands . If you want the world to burn , I'll ask you what color you want the flames . But if you want my heart ? I'm afraid you already have it"
And there is a brown Indian queen. I was screaming when she made descriptions of the saree. And I saw the art of Saeya and I was so happy with the south Asian representation !!!
I would like to thank the author for the eARC opportunity. Like always, this review is completely honest & voluntary.
WOW, I don't even know how to continue after that ending. How does one de-stress? How can one be stress-free? To be honest, I loved every second of this book. I had SO much fun reading it & I could not put it down once I started it. You know that feeling when you immerse yourself into a new book, a new world, and you don't wanna leave it? That's the feeling I got for this book!
Dex, definitely added to my list of favorite FMCs. The way she's so unapologetically herself, I love it. Her confidence, her belief in herself & her abilities. There's obviously moments she has self doubts, where everything she's feeling weighs heavily on her, but she keeps going with so much hope that maybe... somehow things could be better? With a curse & a prophecy that puts the odds against her, she keeps going with her wit & strength. Her sarcasm & sass though? That made me adore her even more because both are my coping mechanisms in life.
Gideon, I love him. His personality as a whole was chaotic in the best way. He is intimidating & you can feel there is so much raw, intense power running through him. As he said, he is a destructive, lethal weapon. But he also had moments that had me cackling. He could be so dramatic at times when he went into his rants. And yet he also has a side that is so comforting, sweet & it made my heart MUSH. Also, the things he said sometimes... what can I say besides the biggest OOF. Overall, my heart is his.
There were side characters that had me smiling & cackling too. The story kept me hooked beginning to end. The slow burn... the build up until it BURNED... I wholeheartedly recommend this book! 🖤
This was…fine. I think with some more polishing and answers it would have been a 4 star at least. I liked the FMC, she was spunky and the banter was my favorite. Especially with Gideon and “Venison” 😂 There was a random stalker at the beginning and then nothing of him was mentioned again? Could have used some more world building. It was hard to understand who this big players were with little info. We still don’t know who the mmc really is, but it really isn’t that difficult to figure out. The romance was a little inconsistent. I also can’t stand modern terminology in fantasy. I don’t think I will continue this series.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
DNF at 83% I just couldn’t make myself finish this awful book. Lazy writing full of contradictions that just don’t make sense from the MC. Her relationship with Vencen is baffling. This is a summary of their interactions: He’s the most disgusting person I’ve ever met and makes bile rise in my throat and constantly makes sexual comments towards me but also I love him he’s my brother and I’ve trusted him with the biggest secret of my life but also I have no respect for him. It’s literally as though he’s kept around as an excuse to show off the scary, protective, jealous side of the other MC. And it took us till page 248 to get to any real drive in the plot. Full of insta love that makes no sense and has no development. The kaliaks are another random plot point used to show us how caring the MC is but it just drags out the story. Like 90% of the story is then traveling not doing shit.
While the premise of this book was really good, this book could have been much better.
The world building was okay, could have used a little more detailed but there was enough for me to understand and keep up with the story.
However, I felt so bored by the 60% mark. It seemed like all the characters were doing the entire book was traveling and if they weren't traveling they were talking about their travels. I ended up swimming the last 30% of the book.
The characters were interesting and it is labeled as a slow burn and wow was it slow burn!
The plot twist at the end I honestly wasn't expecting and I feel like I can predict those easily.
Ill probably read the next book but if it's as boring as this one I might habe to dnf :(
Dex is the runaway princess who wants to escape from the prophecy and curse thrust upon her before she was born. When she found a book that would release her from the curse, she accidentally unlocked a powerful, mysterious male who was bound to the book 200 years ago. Dex could only see, hear and touch him so, he's a shadow to her. Both are forced to work together to find an objects that would fully release Gideon from the book and fulfil the prophecy to end the war.
The author left me speechless with her new dark fantasy romance and I still don't know what to do with the cliffhanger. She's really good at twisting the plot and the world building was incredible. The MCs (Dex & Gideon) are soo made to be with each other and Gideon is my secret affair (you'll understand when you read) and Dex is my moon goddess and I'd worship them both. She is fierce, badass and sassy as hell and Cinnamon roll hero who looks like a lost puppy but would kill without lifting his finger. It was slowest burn romance with enough spice to make you sweat. There are snarky comments, Gideon saving Dex scene, toe curling moments. The ending left me 'wtf'.
Thank you soo much for ARC and you better tell me everything you do in book 2. Oh and thanks again for putting up with me the whole time while I was reading!
Thanks so much for the ARC in exchange for an honest review! The summary of the book captivated me because Dex has been hiding for so long because every kingdom wants her. Her life is a curse, and she wants OUT!
She will learn in this book that she may not escape her destiny. She dabbled in something she shouldn't, but well things happened when a mysterious figure *cough* ancient (I think he is) is now bound to her, and she could only see him. They sadly have to work together to get out of the predicament they are in.
The world-building was quiet, and it's quite interesting to see the lore of the world we are in. It felt like a lot of cultures meld into one world. This is a fantasy book where romance to me seemed secondary and mostly more running around to avoid certain places and hiding too. I honestly wasn't drawn to the couple in this book. They did have banter and back-and-forths, but I didn't feel the chemistry between the two. I think that may be just me. I would understand if this was purely a fantasy book, which is alright and normal with most fantasy books.
I get that the MMC of the male character had to be hidden as a mystery, but there was little lore about him and what was going on. I guess a lot will be revealed in the second book. Dex can taste feelings, which is something new and unique. However, sometimes I get confused as to what she really is feelings based on the taste cause I sometimes need to figure out which emotion connects to which flavor of what she is tasting?
Definitely, the author is a good writer and I love her imagination. There we're just times when there was so just so much going on for me to process what was really happening.
🌙 blood moon sanctum review 🌙 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Looking for a 5🌟 adult fantasy book? LOOK NO FURTHER FOLKS. I know many of you have been reading the fantasy book “big names” and are looking for something to scratch that itch- well Blood Moon Sanctum is the book that’s gonna do it, AND THEN SOME- ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ adult fantasy that still has amazing plot? DONE. all of the tropes we want but done artfully and not forced? YUP. insanely beautiful quotes that will keep you up at night because no man will ever come close? CHECK. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Blood Moon Sanctum brings such unique elements to the adult fantasy genre that i have yet to see in any other book, while incorporating our favorite tropes that we all know and want! The character development and world building was done so well, and I especially loved the map, glossary, pantheon, AND pronunciation guide. Dex has entered my stabby fmc hall of fame alongside aelin and jude, and I would quite literally die for her ❤️🔥 Gideon is SOMETHING ELSE and i can’t begin to explain the complexities of my love for him and my hopes for the next book.
I know you’re all wondering, so here are some of the tropes to look forward to: 🌙 slow burn ✨ forced proximity 🌙 top tier witty banter ✨ prophesy / fated curse 🌙 one bed AND one horse ✨ morally grey characters (both of them) 🌙 enemies to lovers ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ so once again, i’m here begging you to add this to the top of your TBR and pre-order Blood Moon Sanctum. while you’re at it, dm me as you read it because you’re going to want to scream at someone as you go through it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ thank you SO much to @zian_schafer for including me in the ARC’s for this book- I had so much fun (and emotional turmoil) reading this story and it was made even better by getting to talk with you through it all ❤️🔥
If I just had to sum this up in a sentence it would be this: This book will take you straight out of your longest reading slump.
Zian Schafer writes a fresh, tantalizing fantasy that is going to have readers on the edge of their seats from first word to last. It takes a lot for me to truly give a fantasy five stars. But this novel felt so new and fresh with some amazing characters that you are sure to fall in love with.
Dex is our main character and she is quite literally just…everything. She’s fabulous and terrifying all at the same time with incredible quick wit. She’s fighting her truths and looking for hard answers when she stumbles across a very rare book…leading us to met Gideon😍😍 (I’m swooning).
Gideon is what makes this book like reallll hot🔥Not only does this push forth a heavy and tense enemies to lovers…Gideon plays a role that I haven’t ever seen yet in a fantasy. He’s there but…he’s also not. (If you know, you know 😉
Now my final conclusion is this, just freaking read this. The world building is FLAWLESS and the magic system is so freaking cool and interesting, and as I said, it reads so new and fresh and the tension and suspense is written fabulously. This truly should put Zian on the map of wonderful fantasy authors cause this piece was PHENOMENAL.
Thank you a million times over to the author for sharing an ARC copy of this book with me!!!
“The moon may have many faces, but the sun has more. It is chaotic and destructive, yet without feeling the burn of its touch, you can’t feel truly alive. Life grows on everything it touches, and despite its power, it shares the sky with the moon on even the brightest days.”
“I am not. Like you said, it is no longer you or me, it is us now, darling.”
First let me just say that I love when the author includes a trigger warning list at the beginning of the book as well as a pronunciation guide !!!! And don’t let me even start on the map !!! It is GORGEOUS !!! Dex flew her home because of the curse of being the Daughter of the Blood Moon and the prophecy saying that she is supposed to either doom or save the world … in her relentless fight for survival and hiding she releases a force she is not strong enough to face alone and she will have to deal with a very unwilling partner that will make her go through great lengths to save the only family she loves!!! The forced proximity in this book … SUPERIOR !!!!!! The tropes were magnificent. Enemies to unwilling allies and linked forces to lovers !!!! The main male character was … my freaking goodness I don’t think I have words to describe that man. Frustrating as hell, hot and of course absolutely handsome but with the ability to get you bothered one second and swooning the next!!!! The constant banter between the main characters was to die for and their bickering entertained me throughout all the book. It was amazing !!!! And don’t let me even start off the sexual tension between the characters because … I can go into heavy detail about it !!!! And I won’t be complaining for a second about what the author has made me go through with them !!!!! AND THAT CHAPTER THIRTY !!!! I don’t wanna be extreme and say that it was my favourite chapter but … IT WAS MY FAVOURITE CHAPTER !!! Magic, powers and all sorts of creatures all over the place. Add some very interesting Six of Crows dynamics in it and you have the perfect combination for a book that will have you trying to catch your breath until the very end and thanking the author for it !!!! I WAS NOT READY FOR THE ENDING … I still think I am not ready for the ending !!! The only thing I know … is that my need for book two is threatening to devour me !!!! You all have to read this book !!
“It brings me no greater pleasure than to be the one to light that fire in her and see just what she can burn with that tongue of hers.”
“I could show you things that would make ladies of the night blush.”
Blood moon sanctum is the perfect mixture of new adult fantasy romance meets dystopian world. When we meet our lovely female lead, Dex she’s on a mission to retrieve a spell book that’ll free her of her curse. When she thinks she’s simply stumbled upon a cheap knockoff of the most sought after spell book in the realm, she’s in for a surprise.
When she unknowing binds herself to the most wanted man in the realm, a weapon that could destroy everything that the kings of this world have worked for. Everything her father has done to have the world he wants, looks like it may all come crumbling down around her.
And so she ends up bound to a man nobody else can see or feel, who’s unimaginable powers are unbeknownst to her. She has to figure out how to work with him to achieve both of their goals. Freedom. Only freedom doesn’t come so easily. So what happens when a princess in hiding and a weapon stuck between being a man and a ghost work together to retrieve the items it takes to free them both? Well read the book and find out. Duh.
10/10 highly recommend if you like enemies to lovers, forced proximity, one bed trope, etc.
not my cup of tea, but i can understand why others would like it.
Princess Deveraux of Hinixsus, or Dex as she likes to be known, is the Daughter of the Blood Moon. Her heart will end wars, and she will bring the gods back. Though what would happen if the gods come back is not mentioned, ever.
She is cursed and wanted by every kingdom, therefore she is on the run. She encounters a book and by pricking her hand she summons a "weapon", who likes to speak in metaphors, and bounds him to her side.
Now, she is determined to get rid of him, but well we know what gets in the way, themselves.
Now for my thoughts (because they're so important):-
Coming to the book, it's boring. Up untill the last 10% of the book, I was bored out of my mind and wanted to dnf. The story feels like narration of a book with a deadpan voice. The idea or the plot should naturally hold mystery or anticipation, but there was none of that. I would've liked her to get caught one time and her plan not working out. Every anticipation came at the last minute and everything that happened before felt.... unnecessary. The only exciting scenes were Dex beating up a few duck faced men, and both of those scenes had similar dialogues.
We are introduced to things and cities and towns but there's no backstory.
Why are the kingdoms in a war???? There's no explanation, we know she can end it. Is she the only reason? or there's something else???
Why would bringing the Gods back be a bad thing? No clue. All we know is, we don't want that.
Why were Dex's sibling killed? No clue.
Why, and how is Gideon a weapon? We don't know even after we got chapters in his POV.
Why can he touch animals and not humans? No answer.
We get Gideon's POV the first time and he already has feelings and they've had 0 real conversation. The romance in this book is just.... no. No chemistry between the characters. He just falls in love with her and there is not mention or even an insinuation about her feelings towards him but then suddenly woohoo surprise "I love you" after they kiss for the first time. The romance between them felt like it happened because someone wanted it to happen, not because it was supposed to or needed to.
They say they've never felt more like themselves without each other but we rarely see them having good old fun.
I think the most annoying thing was everytime there was romance it just turned sexual. somewhere around the 40% mark they have a clothes off competition, yes I meant that, and everything suddenly goes back to normal. Don't understand where that came from. If it was supposed to create tension it didn't.
The whole time they travel from place to place where the same thing happens and Dex is scared, which ig tells us that she isn't safe anywhere and it's the same routine for her everywhere she goes. Well, I just defended my own point, let's move on.
«Gods, I should have gone home with her, even if just for one measly morning. Despite her silky-smooth skin, the rugged edge of her jaw tells me that whatever she does beneath the sheets would go down in history.» (Dex)
Some of the things I liked was Dex was down bad for Ealrin and wanted to get lost in her eyes. Yes, go do that please. And there were characters who wore sarees which made my South Asian heart very happy.
«she just makes me feel alive. I have been deprived of conversation for so long» (Gideon)
probably why you think you love her. (strangely close to Stockholm Syndrome) (also, why the name Gideon)
The only praise I have is for the cliffhanger. That was truly amazing though I was suspecting something close, but not exactly that. As I've been saying the last 10% of the book was amazing, but no to the remaining.
The starting and ending was fine, the middle was so frustrating that well, i dont wanna be more rude.
Will I be reading the sequel? Let's see when it comes to that.
Here's a quote I really liked:-
«The moon may have many faces, but the sun has more. It is chaotic and destructive, yet without feeling the burn of its touch, you can’t feel truly alive. Life grows on everything it touches, and despite its power, it shares the sky with the moon on even the brightest days.» (Gideon)
“We may never see ourselves as anything more than dust, but to someone else, we could be their whole universe.”
Omg this book was so good…
First I’d like to thank the author for the eARC opportunity! With that said, this review is entirely voluntary and honest.
I don’t even know how to properly put my thoughts into words for this book. Zian had me hooked from the first page! I couldn’t put this book down. I loved that we had a map, a pronunciation guide, and a guide of the Gods/Goddesses. These are the things that really just add a little something extra when reading.
I loved the world that was created even though there’s still so much unseen. I loved Dex, she’s so relatable in her mindset. She’s determined and strong (totally capable of holding her own). I love that she loves pretty things 😂 we need more FMCs that are badass but love pretty stuff too. I get why she ran and stays running. I understand that she feels responsible but also has her self preservation a priority. I loved her character. She’s so funny and I love that she gets under Gideon’s skin.
Gideon. GIDEON. Everyone just needs to be nice to this big bad sweet monstrous man. HE CANT HELP IT. I love him. He’s such a GRUMP but has these cute little moments where he shows emotion and does these sweet considerate things for Dex. You can really see that he also struggles with this internal conflict. My heart breaks for him and melts all at once.
Zian really said “hold my poodle” on the sloooow burn 😂 but ooooo was is WORTH IT. Like this was such a strong slow burn but I was FULLY invested the entire time.
The ending has me shattered. I’ll be slowly dying waiting to get my hands on book two.
ARC Review: I saw the author promoting this book on Instagram and reached out for an advanced copy. The premise sounded amazing, including all the elements I love in a good fantasy. Overall, I really enjoy Schafer's writing and would definitely recommend this book and am excited to read the next installment. Blood Moon Sanctum follows a relatable female lead through an intriguing, well paced plot. I like the way Schafer handled the romantic elements, allowing the feelings of characters to develop/change in a believable way as the story progressed. Spicy scenes were done tastefully and not overly gratuitous, like you see in a lot of trending books right now. Schafer is a good writer and I think her talent and storytelling made up for a lot of my nit picky preferences. As for those...
There were moments while reading I thought certain characteristics about the writing would keep me from being bought in, but the story itself has a lot of potential, especially after a cliff hanger ending. As a fantasy lover, I really would have liked more descriptive texts and world building. At times it felt like I was being introduced to all these new places, wars, creatures, etc. with little to no backstory or context. I think the more knowledge we have of what's going on within the context of the world the characters are in, the more clarity and impact certain revealed information would carry. I like the authors prose, despite use of colloquialisms, which is something I generally expect to see in modern/new/young authors, but I dislike it nonetheless, it makes the writing feel immature.
Another note: in general the book needs a lot of editing. Not only were there many grammatical errors and oddly worded sentences, but also some inconsistencies and story lines that could use some proofing (there's mention of a stalker early on and then we hear nothing else about it; I think it either needs to be abandoned or fleshed out more in this installment, if it's going to be meaningful later in the series). One thing in particular that sat oddly was that one character is described having a feature specifically associated with a religion that doesn't exist in this fictional world. I think a good editing would maybe adapt it or give it context that makes its existence in a fantasy setting more acceptable. Also, a bit lost on how the "Sanctum" part of the title has anything to do with this part of the installment.
Favorite Bit: I laughed every time at the casualness with which Gideon calls Vencen "Venison".
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
The story was about Dex, a cursed Elf princess turned trader who was born as the Daughter of the Blood Moon. Why was that a curse though? The title sounds cool! Well, being the Daughter of the Blood Moon means that she’s either being chased by kings to gain powers (including her father and her betrothed) OR to be killed by them who wants to bring back the Gods and Goddesses from death 😱 Eight years has passed since she began her new secret life as a trader and all seems okay… until one day she accidentally freed a mysterious hot guy named Gideon from a magical book with her blood… AND LIFE F*CKED HER EVEN HARDER STARTING FROM THAT POINT 😅 So, who was Gideon, really? Will Dex be able to survive her chaotic life situations? WILL I, AS A FRAGILE HEARTED READER, SURVIVE THE CLIFFHANGER ENDING OF THIS BOOK AND THE UPCOMING SEQUEL(S)? 🧐
It was a very thrilling book with epic characters, dark and magical world-building, and of course mind-blowing twists 🤯 I love how each character have their own unique personalities, strengths and flaws. And after that “messing with my feelings” cliffhanger ending, I’m even more curious about what will happen next to Dex and NEED TO KNOW WHO GIDEON ACTUALLY WAS 🧐 I really enjoyed Zian’s writing style, especially the banters, which made this book a total page-turner for me!
Once again, if you’re looking for a sexy slow-burn adult romantasy set in high fantasy world where the heroine needs to find a way to break the curse that binds her, in matters of life and death, you’ll want to check this book (it’s currently open for ebook pre-order on a link in @zian_schafer ‘s bio). And after reading, I’m sure you’ll thrilled to read the sequel like me 🙌🏻
~~ Now, it’s not everyday you find a fantasy that threatens to steal your heart and bewitch your mind and soul. ~~
I’ve had the privilege to Beta Read this beauty and now that it’s so close to coming out in the world, I can’t help but scream with delight ( after you read the book, you’ll wish it was Gideon making you scream and not delight ;)
The book was wonderfully crafted in a world full of monsters and kings playing god. It’s ingenious… every element of Blood Moon Sanctum and it leaves you craving the second book 🔥
it’s the first book in a series and it will get you addicted right from the first page.
Both the MCs are super strong and badass that will light it up on fire 🥵 and their banter is to die for!! Our heroine, Princess Devereaux aka Dex has some sass on her that will make you melt! I’m worshipping her already and I bet you will too 😩
♡ quest for mythical objects 🪞 ♡ badass FMC ⚔️ ♡ dangerous and dark MMC ♡ found family 🫶🏻 ♡ MMC who’s a cinnamon roll ♡ one horse 🔥 / one bed 🤪 ♡ CHOSEN ONE 😩 ♡ hate-to-love ♡ forced proximity 🥵 ♡ grumpy x grumpy ♡ KNIFE TO THROAT 🥀 ♡ monsters and gods ♡ prophecies ♡ SLOW BURN 😌
I hope you’re convinced now. If not, I can rant about Blood Moon Sanctum all day and all night 🌙
I was given an ARC of this in return for an honest review.
I’ve been avoiding writing this review because I have very mixed feelings about it.
This book was a surprise that landed in my mail out of the blue and I was so excited to start it. The Venom vibe was the only reason I still gave this 3 stars though, in the end.
Maybe it’s just me and the fact I managed to drag reading it to a whole week’s time, but I felt bored the majority of the time. I felt like the plot was a headless chicken running in circles, with Dex constantly talking about chasing down some ✨magical artifacts✨ but only getting to actually go after them in the last 5 chapters or so.
The story tried to focus on the romance, I guess, but I feel it didn’t really develop naturally between the two of them. In one chapter they wanted to murder one another, and in the next, they were all heart eyes. It was weird.
And the most infuriating part: even though it’s pretty obvious who Gideon actually is if you read the character list, the plot has zero hints. Zero. Nada. Nothing. Dex doesn’t even wonder who he is. And it also ties to her own part in the story which is always talked about but avoided in every possible way. It just doesn’t make sense.
So yeah, in general, it was fine, but I found myself bored with it more often than not.
This book has left me completely shook. I was lucky to get a chance to read an ARC copy of the book, and man this book didn’t disappoint. I was completely enamoured by Dex and her journey throughout the book. The plot twist at the end made my jaw drop, I can’t believe I have to wait till 2024 to read the next book! I 10/10 recommend this book. Zian did an amazing job world building and introducing us to interesting characters.
Set in a magical world with a refreshing FMC and intriguing world building, Blood Moon Sanctum is a wonderful read! Schafer writes in a way that the story flows effortlessly and includes all the best tropes, packed with adventure and action, topped off with a slow burn romance and an epic cliff hanger it was one of my favourite reads of the year!
“May women make thrones from the severed heads of men.”
A prophecy, a princess, a curse and a shadow. A slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers, forced proximity, one-bed, dual POV that will make your toes curl and have you shouting to the freaking VOID! When the elven Princess and fated heir to the throne Devereux escapes her tortuous father at sixteen, she turns to a life of petty thievery, hiding her true identity from the realms . While searching for shiny trinkets to steal and sell, she’s also secretly searching for something much more valuable. A spell book that can release her from the curse that was placed upon her. When her blood accidentally spills on an ancient book of botany, she releases a monster feared by all kings, men and monsters across the 8 realms. But only she can see him. Gideon is a brooding, moody prick who’s forced proximity grows on not only Dex, but the reader as well. He is fiercely protective, loyal, and capable of so much more than death and destruction. If you were physically pained by the cliffhanger ending of Blood Moon Sanctum, you may be entitled to financial compensation. Get your copy on 3/23/23, wherever books are sold! Thank you for this ARC, Zian. I hate you for this. I really do. 💋 🌙 🩸 🗡️ 🧝♀️🧌💰💍👑🌕⛺️🏰
I would like to begin by thanking the author for providing me with the eARC of the book in exchange for an honest review.
This book was quite the ride. I may be absolutely obsessed. The ending of the book left me a mess and so this review might frankly reflect the chaos of my mind.
The world building was amazing. I loved the map, glossary, and pronunciation guide that the author provides. I was able to lose myself in the story completely and I did not want to leave at all. The kingdoms, creatures, and overall politics in this world was so unique and vivid in description.
The action in this was astounding. The brutality of some of the scenes was terrifying and I let out plenty of gasps, but it all adds to the beauty of the story.
Dex is such a badass and genuinely relatable FMC. She is so unapologetic about who she is and everything that she does. She often acts as though nothing phases her but she feels so intensely. Her sense of humor and snarky remarks were everything to me. The banter that she engaged in with everyone was so much fun. The fact that she also met her match in Gideon is amazing.
GIDEON. Oh my heavens do I love this character. Let me start by saying that he was dramatic in the best of ways and I absolutely LIVED for every single one of his chapters and I sincerely hope that we get more of them in the near future. He definitely made me blush on multiple occasions and the sweetness with which he cared for Dex was everything.
The romance between these two was most definitely a slow burn but incredibly rewarding. The banter, the longing, the tension and everything else between our two MCs kept me on the edge of my seat. I am ready to see how their dynamic will continue to develop especially after the events towards the end of the book.
As a random thought, the amount of highlighting and notes that I took is insane. That is how good it was. I didn't know how much I interacted with the story until I was done. I will most definitely be using all of that for when the next book finally drops. I have so many questions and theories so the notes will come in handy !
The ending was absolutely insane and very much anxiety inducing. I am simultaneously excited yet terrified for what will happen in the next book. I cannot believe that we have to wait until 2024. The wait will be torturous but I know that it will be worth it.
I would 100% recommend this to any fan of fantasy romance looking for such a fun yet suspenseful read.
Thank you, Zian, for the opportunity of being one of your ARC readers. This book is fantastic. You're a genius. This book gets you into the action from the first page! FROM THE FIRST PAGE!!!! THANK YOUUUUU!!!!!
🌙 strong FMC 🌙 deadly MMC 🌙 touch her and I'll kill you 🌙 mystical creatures 🌙 fae/elves/witches/gods 🌙 quest/adventure 🌙 hell of a plot twist 🌙 forced proximity 🌙 one bed, one horse 🌙 enemies-to-lovers (although, I'm more inclined to a little enemies-to-friends-to-lovers. slightly friends:)))) 🌙 FATE/PROPHECY/CURSE 🌙 slow burn 🌙 found family 🌙 a glimpse of a powerful world-building
First, thank you for the darkness you put in this book. I LOVE IT AND HIM! Guilty! :))) I loved how you put into words the beauty of the darkness and the danger in it. And how every living soul has a dark side. It all depends on how you use it. Everybody is a monster.
I LOVE DEX! She is fearless and goes straight into danger :))) I loved her journey and how she cares for the people around her. Even the one that stuck in her head :)) Her past and her secrets are beautifully written. You always find something new about her, and every time you get to love her a little more.
Now. The devil in disguise :)) GIDEON IS A RARE JEWEL INDEED!! The darkness and night himself... here I am falling for another fictional character. I am doomed. We need more of Gideon's POVs!!!!!!!! I loved how Gideon is written. He is powerful, graceful, deadly, and final, and from his first appearance, I wanted him freed from his shackles. Now, Dex and Gideon: PERFECTION! Without spoiling anything, I'm going to say this: I loved their way of communicating, their bond, and their feelings. And the booth scene??? :)))) I wonder if he would've continued with his plan with Ta’nola there if Dex hadn't stopped him :)))
That ending shook me really badly. I suspected their bond was not limited to that damned book, but THAT twist in things, history, masterminds???!!!!??!!! I did not see that one coming. I suspected mates, even bloody fate, but not THAT! After that revelation, I thought he knew from the beginning her true destiny but looks like his own doing got back to him biting hard.
I can't wait for the second book and I CANNOT BELIEVE HOW MUCH WE HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE SECOND BOOK!!!!! I need book2 NOW!!!!! I need him free (I'm not sure I want Venison to survive his wrath:)))). I have a feeling in book2 we'll get one hell of a world-building, and I can't wait to read it. Dex and Gideon have a lot on their plates, personally and with their families, and I hope everything will turn out well for them. We all know death is only the beginning, so maybe death is not going to be the literal death, but something more powerful. So I'm very interested in what's going to come.
P.S. My lady, Zian Schafer, you will have your own shelf, because I'm planning to have all books, present and future ones. Thank you for this amazing world you've created and thank you for allowing me to read it in advance. I loved every single page.
YALL THIS BOOKKKKK IS AMAZINGGGGG!!!!! I'm a very picky fantasy reader since sometimes scenes and the overall setting of the book is heavily descriptive and kinda overstimulating however, BMS has just the right amount especially if you're someone that enjoys applying your own imagination to picture characters and settings. ANYWAYSSSS, onto the juicy stuff...
.....
THE CHARACTERS AND MY FAV QUOTES!!!! Dex our FMC is so BAD*SSSS, she SLAYED, quite literally so lol. She's hot fr and literally soo funny, the wit is just chefs kiss!! The banter Dex and our MMC Gideon -I'm feral for this man- literally had me cracking up... she's a young runaway princess that couldn't give 2 shi*s about Gideons ancient age or opinions and she lovvvveeesss teasing the man. My desi heart was SCREAMING AND SQUEALING over the south asian rep, Saeya had me swooning fr and Vencen makes such inappropriate comments its actually funny, my man reeks of desperation and i enjoy his presence solely because it annoys a certain someone. ALL the characters were entertaining and soooo different from what I'm used to, it was thrilling to be part of their world!
.....
"My name is Dex. I am a thief, I am a killer and I will not break under the hands of men. I am the lost princess, and the one they call savior. but no one is getting saved. They're getting damned instead."
"Stay with me." Gideon starts to work faster, anger in every single one of his movements. "I forbid you from dying on me , LITTLE MOON"
"You needn't ingrain what you see into your mind, DARLING. I intend to be on my knees for you every day until you know me in no other form"
"You will soon learn, LITTLE ELF, that I am always right"
"I don't think I'll ever know a day where his wish isn't my command"
"When the sun sets and when the sun rises, all I want is YOU"
.....
TROPES AND THE LIKES... Grumpyxbratty Age gap... One horse (SQUEALING OVER THIS) Forced proximity Enemies to lovers Slow burn Wound trope YOU HURT HER kinda vibes (fav trope fr) Knife to throat (is it really an enemies to lovers if it doesn't have this trope??) Dual POV Betrayal (i was heart broken and LIVID) PET NAMESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS BADAS*/ SELF SUFFICIENT FMC (<33) MORALLY GREY MMC (*smirks*) GOREEEE (I love gore in books, its kinda calming, is that alarming???) Has a bit of sm** (losts of sexual tension tho, i love when fantasy books have more s.t than actual sm**) 18+ vibes mainly due to the detailed violence (Dex and I both love it and Gideon thrives in it) Powerful men on their knees and obsessed with equally powerful women!!
.....
Point is this book is amazing, i finished it in one damn sitting and Zian could have gotten rid of me but now? she has unleashed a monster ;)) (pun intended) The plot twists!!! HOLY FUDGING FRACK. It has everything! Tension (of all kinds ;)), suspense, ROMANCE, complex characters and storyline, the world building is goooddddddd and obviously the characters will make you feel everything all at once...reading this book gave me an adrenaline rush lmaoo. Reading Blood moon sanctum was chaotic fuunnnnn!!! i thoroughly enjoyed it and gave it a 4.7/5 rating. It was thrilling and had me on the edge of my seattt fr.
This book is so amazing, I don't even know where to begin. First I want to say a huge thanks to Zian for the ARC. I would have literally died if I had to wait until March.
If you like badass FMCs; grumpy MMCs, slow burns, magic, curses, amazing world building, ridiculously annoying but also kind of lovable side characters, then you'll love this book.
Blood Moon Sanctum was honestly one of the best slow burns I've ever read. Of course I was anxiously waiting for them to confess, but I also had such a great time reading it that before I knew it they were kissing. I love Dex and Gideon with my entire being, but especially Dex😜🥵 She's the kind of person that you don't know whether you want to BE them or be WITH them. And Gideon is just the perfect mix of hot, mysterious god-like creature, and big, adorable, protective teddy bear. And the nicknames he gives Dex?!!?!😭 I was literally dying they're so cute.
"You needn’t ingrain what you see into your mind, darling. I intend to be on my knees for you every day until you know me in no other form."
I absolutely loved the queer rep in this book. Zian didn't make it weird or awkward. It was just natural, like it should be. She did an overall wonderful job with everything. Her writing, the plot and world building, character development, it was all amazing. This book is just littered with beautifully written quotes that'd you'd definitely see in one of those videos with the random sentence that makes you drop your current read.
"I will gladly be the nightmare whispering wicked thoughts into the darkest depths of your mind."
I was sold the second I read the dedication, and maybe it'll sell you too...
"This is for everyone who wouldn't survive a single day in a fantasy setting."
This book is the first of the series and second published book by the author.
The story has potential but it needs another round of proofreading as I did come across several misspellings, several wrong word choices, and some awkwardly worded sentences.
It's an interesting fantasy that follows the FMC Dex, who is a curse and prophesied elf. She ends up releasing a mysterious being when a drop of her magical blood releases Gideon from the book he's been trapped in for centuries.
I didn't care for the nearly constant mention that Dex is able to taste Gideon's feelings and she's able to immediately decipher what each flavor means. Why not just sense his feelings?
It's a dual POV book but we really don't get much insight into Gideon's inner thoughts. By the end of the book, the reader still doesn't know who he really is, why he was trapped in the book, what his motives are.
Overall, this story has potential to be a great series, it just needs some polishing up.
