J.H. Moncrieff's City of Ghosts won the 2018 Kindle Book Review Award for best Horror/Suspense.

Reviewers have described her work as early Gillian Flynn with a little Ray Bradbury and Stephen King thrown in for good measure.

She won Harlequin's search for “the next Gillian Flynn” in 2016. Her first published novella, The Bear Who Wouldn’t Leave, was featured in Samhain’s Childhood Fears collection and stayed on its horror bestsellers list for over a year.

When not writing, she loves exploring the world's most haunted places, advocating for animal rights, and summoning her inner ninja in muay thai class.

I wasn't sure what to expect with so many authors I didn't know. I'm glad I gave this a chance as I was very surprised at alot of the stories, they had me wanting more. If you are looking to check out some of the women of horror then this would be a good purchase.

I admit, I went into it not expecting to like it. But to my surprise the stories were really engaging. I love that they are so varied, covering areas that have mostly been ignored (ie: mothman).
These are strong women, powerful women, women whose stories have been waiting to be told. I am very glad I had a chance to read about them.

Where do I start? This was a fantastic journey through some very intense, weird and creepy stories by some amazing women of horror!
I loved every story and cannot decide on a favourite as they were very different with every one of them having something that touched me in a way or another. These stories are so powerful as they could be real, albeit some more than others!

This anthology has everything from folklore, supernatural, thriller, you name it, it's there!
I cannot describe the plethora of emotions these stories made me feel and I could really see myself in the main characters, because of the beautiful and skillful writing.

The stories are short without losing on complexity and roundness and the amount of information and detail put into them it is a reflection of how good the writers are!
I knew some of the authors but never heard of others and I'm so glad I got to read their stories.

If you want to know more women writing horror this is the perfect anthology, as it reflects the title perfectly being a very Badass anthology!

**Disclaimer: I have a story in this anthology which is why no star rating (otherwise it would be a five out of five). This review is for the other stories in the collection**

Sinister Smile Press has done it again with this all female line up. From monsters to witches to family trauma, these authors have created the perfect scare for everybody.

My favorite stories of the bunch are:

1. Harbinger by EV Knight

After an unfortunate incident with a mother, a woman finds herself battling a strange infection. One that gives her visions of the future. Visions that involve death and despair.

2. Hook in Her Head by Rebecca Rowland

An aging actress takes the plastic surgery plunge. Unfortunately for her, not all that glitters is golf.

3. The Big Hit by Catherine Jordan

Craving adventure, a woman buys a vanagon for a road trip. What she doesn't know is that freedom comes at a cost. And not all of it can be paid with money.

Like all the other Sinister Smile anthologies read in the past this one was a winner. Was impressed by the stories contained within this. Hope there'll be a similar one like this in the future. Five stars.

This collection of 16 female authors includes folklore, witch pits (very interesting), serial killers, zombies... Many of these women are favorite authors of mine: Candace Nola, Kate DeJonge, Rayne Havok. In addition to their stories, my favorites in this anthology were: Harbinger - I'm from West Virginia, so as soon as I read that the main character lived in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, I knew where this story was headed. The Big Hit - a haunted VW story that mentions Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where I lived for many years. The Death God's Way - about a Mayan Riviera vacation from hell.

Thank you to Sinister Smile Press for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

As expected with anthologies, I liked some and didn't others.
