Rate this book
After a relationship left her a little broken, Hope Givens vows to never let another man have control over her life and she focuses on putting herself first. The ambitions of marriage, kids, and lifelong relationships isn’t in the cards for her. So, she sticks to keeping men around long enough to fulfill her needs. But then he comes along…

Maverick Martin’s unconventional upbringing with his father makes him well-versed in not settling in one place for too long. Besides the uncle who’d taken him in at the age of eleven, his limited experience with relationships can be summed up as brief, fleeting interactions that make it easy for him to walk away. Years of that lifestyle lead to a sense of satisfaction… until he runs into her…

After two people not looking for anything permanent share an explosive night, moving on is easier said than done. When the temptation gets too strong to resist, they settle on a no strings arrangement, believing it’s the perfect solution. But unanticipated emotion muddies the water and a surprise tilts their world on its axis, causing the bonds of their relationship to be tested, leaving them both wondering if it's possible to not let the past rule their present …

**Some SPOILERS**
Note To Readers: Parts of my review contain some edited adult content. It you offend easily, do NOT read this review!

I’m going to preface my review by saying, I really liked this book. I was super ecstatic for Hope to finally get to tell her story. With that said, Love’s Hope was 313 pages of pure frustration and annoyance. I’ve read plenty of books with dislikeable heroines but, Hope took the crown. I hadn’t even finished chapter one yet before she got on my shyt list and it took a minute for her to come off it. Going into the story we learn, when she was 18, Hope was in a relationship with an older man who controlled and manipulated her for years. This is the reason she doesn’t do love or real relationships. It’s also the reason she makes questionable choices throughout this book. But, we’ll get to that later. While she’s sitting in a bar pondering life, in walks sexy azz Maverick Martin. Lawd, this man was BDE personified and his rudeness was an absolute turn on. He’s also anti everything Hope hates in a man but, that doesn’t deter her instant attraction to him one bit. She’s feelin’ frisky and lookin’ for a one-night stand but, before Hope could even shoot her shot, Maverick slides her his room key and tells her (not ask) to meet him in his room. He’s not one to waste time on pleasantries. After a very satisfying night of sinnin’, these two part ways expecting never to see each other again. Fate said, “hold my beer” because, she had other plans. Imagine Hope’s surprise when the man who blew her back out two weeks prior turns out to be her new business partner. Awkward! Try as she might, Hope can’t fight her attraction to Maverick. They have this crazy chemistry that's just too strong and intense to walk away from. They agree to keep it cute and casual with no feelings until said feelings enters the chat anyway. The battle of wills and Hope’s incessant need for control are the crux of this storyline. Her refusal to admit she was in love with Maverick and she wanted more from him than just sex was grew tiresome. Given Hope's past relationship with Andre, you have an idea of why she constantly straddles the fence with her feelings. But, I couldn’t necessarily sympathize with her because the author didn’t give us enough background on them. Andre is the catalyst to Hope’s behavior so, each time he made an appearance (there were only two), there should've been a flashback to be able to see the control and manipulation he had over her. Just telling me about it wasn't enough. I don’t do third person writing. I’ll never understand how Chauncey got more screen time in this storyline than Andre did. Speaking of Chauncey, lets talk about him for a minute. You remember those questionable choices I spoke of earlier? Chauncey is one of them. When Hope finally finds the courage to leave Andre’s demented azz, she has the misfortune of meeting Chauncey. He's a man child who throws tantrums when he doesn’t get his way, he's irrationally jealous, he lowkey stalked her at times, he was borderline abusive, and he was toxic as hell. Knowing all of this, Hope continued to entertain Chauncey’s delusional azz for 10 years. Not only that but, she continued to have sex with this man knowing the d*ck was trash. He was a selfish lover, his stroke game was weak as hell, he refused to give head (but didn’t have a problem asking for it), and he didn’t give a rat’s azz if she came or not. And, yet, she continued to have sex with him hoping it would get better. Insert confused GIF here because, where TF they do that at?!!! This is the part of the storyline that was a huge conundrum for me because, again, I don’t know a single woman of any race who would willingly lay down with a man when they’ve already test drove the d*ck and know it trash. Not unless it’s for financial gain and that was not the case here. Listen, I don’t care how much of a sexual slump I’m in. I’ma always call on BOB (y’all know what that stands for) before I partake in trash d*ck. But, I digress. Hope truly had me SMDH and asking her why throughout this entire book. When that shyt went down in her office with Chauncey and Maverick, I wanted to slap the piss out of her. I literally had to put this book down and walk away to give myself a moment. Hope irked my last nerve. Thank God for Winnie. She had to give her friend some real talk and let her know she was about to lose the best thing that happened to her if she didn’t stop living in the past. Love’s Hope was a really good book. It’s a sexy romance with just enough angst that’s sure to keep your pressure up. The heroine was annoying and frustrating at times but, you’ll still root for Hope to get her shyt together and find her HEA. While I wish the author had done some things differently, it didn’t take away from the overall enjoyment of the book. Thank you to K. Lashaun for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

What do you get when the king and queen of one night stands, the alpha and omega of “hit it and quit it” face off after meeting one night in a hotel bar? A battle of wills! Chess not checkers was played as these two equally fought against what felt natural to their souls. It was a fight for dominance that neither of them was willing to give in.

These two emotionally closed off individuals brought Love’s Hope to life. Maverick wants nothing to do with love and companionship due to the abandonment issues he faced as a child and the same can be said about Hope due to a controlling relationship with a man twice her age when she was an impressionable 18 year old.

When they thought they devised a perfect night of shared experiences without having to see each other again forced proximity at work proved their plan was full of holes. Hope definitely met her match realizing that Maverick’s stubbornness could rival her own and she was not ready to relinquish the control she was used to when it came to dictating things in her relationships. I loved Maverick almost instantly. What he experienced at the tender age of 11 touched me deeply and when it was revealed who his uncle was, I squealed with excitement! The way K. Lashaun brought this full circle connection together was everything. While my first impression of Maverick was love at first sight, Hope had me stressed and side eyeing her from the very first chapter. *rubs temples in a circular motion* I don’t know why she was shocked by Chauncey’s behavior the way she played in that man’s face 🙄

While she stressed me out most of the book I did sympathize with Hope and what she endured at the hands of Andre. I do wish we would’ve been given more background to exactly what happened because that part of the story was vague a times.

This was another home run and I will forever be a fan of this author! From the character development, to the storylines and even the way she writes her name characters….I’ve yet to find a flaw in these men! Now I’m impatiently waiting for Hakeem…… ⏰

step one.. 🙃

“Your first mistake is comparing your ability to judge something at eighteen is the same at age thirty. You’re older, wiser, and a grown ass woman now. Stop punishing the adult version of Hope for trusting the wrong person when you were a damn child.” - if there was a quote that sums up this entire book, it is this one! It literally explains the character of Hope.

Maverick, my Maverick! Whew, when he gave Hope two choices: A - a quickie to hold her over or B - an experience 🥵I knew right away he was different! That one night stand scene had me clutching my pearls! He had this mysterious thing going on but it worked! He was super guarded and it all made sense considering his childhood. What I loved the most about Maverick was the way that he always protected Hope. He had this take charge personality- which tended to clash with what Hope wanted but he never changed who he was.

Hope was a lot at times but she went through a lot as a young woman. I think she wasn’t completely healed from the abuse of her first love. What I loved about Hope was she was super independent and really worked her tail off to get what she wanted.

This book was different, a one night stand turned into a workplace romance. However, the characters wanted to keep things casual..but they found themselves falling deeply into each other. I loved how quickly Maverick fell, whew! He was paying bills, had his, “spendanight” bag on standby. He never hesitated to give Hope all the spice and sweet lovings that she desired. I loved loved Uncle Eugene, baby he had me cracking up! He was seriously my favorite, a diva in his own right and when he called Maverick’s condo a trap house, I died!🤣we needed that kind of representation! I loved how he took Maverick in and raised him on how own, no questions asked.

This book did not lack spice, the characters were definitely sexually in sync with each other. It had good dialogue and a good book to discuss / dissect. It also addressed the inequalities when it comes to women in the workplace. I would have loved to see more of of the things that Hope endured with her ex because I think that played a vital role in why she was so hesitant to let Maverick all the way into her heart. I loved how the characters allowed love to have its way in the end. 💙

When I met Hope in “Love’s Truth”, I wanted to know why she ran from men who gave off “demanding energy”. I told the author “I can’t wait until she meets a man just like her brother”. Guess what? She did LOL. His name is Maverick and he came with the energy secretly craved. He gave her an option she couldn’t refuse and they both got twisted up in the game. I liked Maverick, he is arrogant, mysterious and dominant. He also has up a wall due to his childhood upbringing, so he, like Hope, run from serous commitment. A match made in Heaven right? Chile, LOL. I love the way Maverick protected Hope. He gives her space to be vulnerable while encouraging her, but he also doesn’t retreat from challenging, thought provoking conversations. Hope was something else. The way she moved with Maverick irritated me. I get having your guard up, but sis was working my nerves giving him the blues when he wanted more. She had me countless times saying “Now come on girl”. My biggest issue with this book is the lack of backstory pertaining to Hope . We found out the reason for her behavior but we didn’t get it on page. With Andre being such a major catalyst for her behavior, we should’ve been able to see it through flashbacks. I feel that would’ve given me a deeper understanding of Hope as a character and her struggle with relationships. Also, I felt the author didn’t capitalize on the office romance. I loved how she touched on the disrespect towards women in the workplace, but there was no angst, no tension nor any supply closet romps. Bummer!!! Additionally, some scenes just felt like fillers for drama because it wasn’t necessarily helping the story move forward. Overall, I enjoyed this story, the direction was unexpected but I like Hope and Maverick and rooted for them as a couple. I hope Winnie is next in line because she brought a vibrant personality and some tough love to the table. Thank you to the author for providing the ARC copy in exchange for an honest review

PUT SOME RESPECT ON MRS LASHAUN’S NAME !!!

i’m going to be honest, my opinion in regards to any work by this author can probably be considered biased because i’ll eat up ANYTHING written by her.
when it comes to writing perfect stories & matches, she has a pen that’s untouchable.

so here we have Hope Givens & Maverick Martin — two beautifully flawed characters with intricate backgrounds, THIQUE barriers around their hearts, and a bit of a stubbornness that has them too into their own ways to accept the love they don’t even realize they deserve. these two meeting felt like kismet if i do say so myself; the sarcastic banter, the laughs, the way their personalities ignited the other, and the THE SEXUAL TENSION & CHEMISTRYYYY babyeee (don’t even get me started lol).
i don’t know about others but nothing makes my heart happier than seeing (or in this case reading about) black love and black families just thriving. everything about this story is loveable from Mav’s dynamic with his family all the way to Hope’s dynamic with hers + the time she be spending with her gals just laughing and being there for each other <3

i could read this story (much like all Mrs. Lashaun’s stories) over and over again and NEVER get tired. if you’re considering reading this lovely piece of work then do yourself a favor, don’t walk but RUN & do it immediately.

(THIS BOOK IS BOOK 2 APART OF A STANDALONE SERIES. IT MIGHT NOT BE NECESSARY BUT I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND READING BOOK 1 LOVE’S TRUTH BEFORE INDULGING IN THIS ONE)

Hopes’ story had me in my feelings most of this story. The back and forth between Hope and Maverick was a lot, and the love-related drama in the tale had me staring and complaining about the couple’s relationship. Hope had trust issues, and Maverick had abandonment issues. So, when they finally connected, it was a love story for the ages. Maverick had the correct name and image to fit his bravado.

*I was granted an ARC* I enjoyed Hope and Maverick. Hope was almost going to block her blessings in Maverick, but he persisted and she got out of her own way. She had some healing to do after being in an emotionally abusive relationship as a young adult. I thought it was interesting that she was manipulated in her past since she had grown up with strong, male relationships (father and brother), but it was realistic of K. Lashaun to write this because any of us can be taken advantage of despite having positive influences.

I am glad Maverick (I love that her father called him "Ricky") was able to get some happiness too. He needed to let his guard down a bit, and Hope provided that for him.

I'm glad they got their HEA.

Hope x Maverick

Hope really disappointed me in the beginning. I remember from Truth book her essentially talking about she didn't want an Alpha male because she was surrounded by them in her family. So I thought that she was an Alpha female doing her own thing. When in actuality, I perceived her as being so scared by a one time experience that in the name of "freedom" she wasn't getting what she deserved. She wasn't having the sex she should, she wasn't being treated correctly by her flings & most importantly because she wanted to sometimes keep the peace, she let them show they whole ass 🙄 but here comes Maverick who shoots straight from the hip & exudes BDE. From the first interaction with Hope, my boy flipped the script & as much as Hope wanted to put up a fight, she liked the BDE. Maverick was patient, understanding & loving. He really was a simply complex man. Never showing too much of himself personally, but always oozing the confidence only he could. Maverick taught Hope the beauty in submission which isn't about losing yourself, but trusting your partner with everything in you. She always tried to play these little power games, which irked me. But it wouldn't have been Hope if she just gave in. I loved that Maverick also gave her power but let her think she had power too. He truly showed her that submitting had everything to do with take & give & just not taking. Hope had pushed me to a point that I just wanted to shake her, but Winnie woke her ass up when she told her to stop punishing 30 yr old Hope for the mistakes of a child. I wished she would have gotten therapy, or even realized that she was being groomed & told her Daddy so he could whoop Andre ass. It took her a min, but when she finally got on the right path I was rooting for my girl ! Seems she got everything & more.

I need more Winnie in my life. Her carefree but honest spirit is so refreshing. Thank God Hope stop being mean to Trin, because I thought she was the sweetest. & I pray that Chauncey irritating ass changed jobs. Also, big shout out to Gene for doing the job of a REAL man when it came to Maverick.

Ms. K got me in a chokehold & I am not ready to let go lol.

This is clearly the year of book baes when it comes to black romance. Maverick is definitely my new bae. K. Lashaun knows she knows how to write some worthy men. First it was Verse now Maverick. I'm disgusted they're no real. I love a man that knows when to be dominant and soft and vulnerable. Mav has that in spades. BDE all throughout the story. I love his relationship with his uncle Gene who is for all intents and purposes his father. He raised him when his no good sperm donor dropped him off on the porch. Eugene is his father periodt. I love how he handled Chauncey as well. He was such a loser and a coward, harassing Hope when she made it obvious plenty of times she wasn't interested. I wish he would've gotten to confront and beat Andre's pedo predator ass as well. What I really loved was how he loved and cared for Hope. He was very present in all ways. Providing all that she needed even when she resisted at times. Maverick is literally what a man should be. I'm not the swooning type at all but damn if I didn't for him because he deserves it. As for Hope, for the most part I did like her but she did erk my nerves with her extra Ms. Independent speal. A pet peeve of mine in books is when the women won't sit down and let these real men be men. If he is showing up in all the right ways let him take care of you. You're not less than a women if your man wants you to have no worries. I'm an independent woman but if God sent me a man who wanted to take care of me and I know he's the right one for the job I'm going to let him do that. Sit down. Shut up and let him cater to you. Thankfully she eventually got with the program but she did work my nerves at times like Garryn did in In This Moment. K. Lashaun killing me with these women characters who won't get out there way til the man almost out the door. However she pens good stories so I'll let her have it. Especially since she writes the best male characters. Maverick my new man and I'm not letting him go. This book was amazing. I flew through it quickly. 5/5 stars. Deserves it.

“Part of the responsibility of being in control, is knowing when to relinquish it. It doesn’t make you any less powerful to give up the reins sometimes, sweetheart.“

Maverick!! That’s a Black King right there.

This series has some hardheaded characters- Hope is just like her damn brother, Truth lol. Love and commitment weren’t on Hope’s list on priorities, but fate had something to say about that. Maverick is the embodiment of BDE, from night one, he hit Hope with the “which way do you wanna do this?”. Hope knew she was in danger as soon as he spoke.

Maverick is his woman’s scholar, anticipating her needs and when those aren’t clear, he will directly ask, “what do you need, sweetheart?”— even though it drove Hope crazy because she’s used to depending and doing for herself. Hope had to get out of her own way and try something with Maverick.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that Maverick was stuffing and folding Hope like a pizza pocket!!!

I love the way Truth reacted to Maverick and the nickname Hope’s Dad gave him.
I loveeeee Gene so much, I love that he is and always will be ten toes down for Maverick. I could go on and on because I just love this book!

I received an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Love's Hope is the story of Hope, a young woman committed to keeping her love life casual and on the go, but one night she meets Maverick, and their interaction leaves her questioning that way of life.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. This review is short because I'm still processing these characters and if I'm honest, I'll be picking them gem back up very soon. If I'm being honest, I had a lot of mixed feelings about Hope and her actions and reactions, but I had to take a step back and realize that I was definitely reading this with MY heart so MY feelings dictated how I viewed certain moments. Sometimes the romance hits too close to home lol. Hope and I have some similar ways of thinking so I was yelling at her and myself as I read, lol.

With that being said, @authorklashaun knows how to write a story that will have you laughing, crying, smiling like a school girl, and pining for a man who only exists in the pages of a book 😢 (swipe for some quotes that really stuck with me)

We all need a Maverick in our lives who will break down those impossible walls, and he was made for Hope. She really deserved him and he deserved her even more.

This book also had my all-time favorite trope in it so iykyk 😉

Does this seem like something you're interested in reading? Check it out on Amazon/Kindle Unlimited tomorrow!!!

Thank you for the ARC 😊

I really liked this book but could have done without Hope’s back & forth (she slick almost ruined the book for me 🥲)!! She almost missed out on a good man bc she wanted to be childish and not say what she wanted 😒 like how are you mad that y’all are just being casual when YOU were the one that asked for it 😒 like be forreal girl.

Also for someone that claimed they wanted to be sexually free why did she waste sooo many years with Chauncey knowing he was wack as hell & never not once satisfied her? I knew she wasn’t serious when I read the part about her entertaining him but it didn’t really benefit her.

Wish we got a flashback to her experience with Andre, especially since he’s the reason she doesn’t approach relationships - I think seeing that would probably have helped me had a bit more sympathy for her (maybe) and not just roll my eyes.

All in all, I enjoyed this book - Winnie was my favorite, loved how Gene was honest with Hope & asked her if she felt as though Maverick was worth the risk bc he was willing to put aside his fears for her but she had to meet him halfway. Looking forward to the next book in this series !!!

Love is the magic word

It took a minute to realize this was a set up of character development with slow burn. Based on the strength of previous works, I continued waiting for the payoff and they were so meaningful. ❤️ We have Hope, who is introduced in the first book of this series involving her brother Truth and wife Capri, who thinks she only wants casual relationships. And we have Maverick, whose swag literally leaps off the page, has the same attitude for different reasons. These two hook up for a helluva one nighter and when they meet again months later, it begins an interesting journey as they learn to adjust and learn to trust and show love. This story has standout secondary characters with my fav being Gene and Winnie, who I hope will inspire a Book 3.

3.75/5- This was an enjoyable book. I definitely loved all things Maverick. His nonchalant demeanor and direct responses did made me love him more. But I’m rooting for of that, he truly was a sweetheart. He was soft with Hope when he needed to be.

Hope , I honestly was not a fan of. She really irked me with her need for control. I understood what she went through and her experience but Sis- Maverick. That was all.

Over all it was a good story. Some of the wordiness was not a favorite however, it was enjoyable. I’d say give it a spin because Maverick will make you swoon. And I won’t get into his uncle lol.

Whew! I thought I loved Pri and Truth.

Maverick and Hope were even better. I adored their journey. Kudos to the author for not including any unnecessary drama here. Everything that occurred for their journey was realistic, considering the circumstances and layers of their back story. And I love an “unplanned situation” in my romances. This was addressed perfectly. I just really enjoyed this story.

I can’t wait to read more from this auth

This was cute.

I enjoyed this book. I like the chemistry between the couple and loved Gene. I would probably re-read it. My only critique were the typos. They were frequent throughout the book. I'm hoping it won't be a continued issue past this book because it's distracting.

Overall, I would recommend.

I try to be sympathetic of FMC who’ve dealt with toxic and abusive relationships because I can’t imagine it being easy but for my reading pleasure unfortunately it’s frustrating and I wish I was more patient. Hope like the many others before her are just trying to figure it out and they did, I just wish I received it better.

This book was phenomenal! Truthfully everything by this author is but this book took a trope I USUALLY hate and made it great. I loved how this book did the amazing job of showing us how easily “assertive” can become controlling. But Maverick was NEVER that!
