Probably my favorite so far even if things were settled a little too easy if you know what I mean It definitely needs some TW's because I was caught off guard at the descriptive even though we later find out the truth. Anyway, proceed with caution.
Cassius was an asshole in the other books and we find out why. It was a sad tale and kudos to Markov for taking it and forgiving everything.
This series is cheesy asf but it's highly addictive.
Finally!!! This is the story I've been waiting on..... stupid? Yes. He could have told him instead of breaking his heart for years? Also, he could have tracked the kid if you just asked? Hello 🙄 I won't lie. I'm getting bored asf, 1 book left.
I was leery going into this. Cassius had definitely not endeared himself to me after his actions in the previous books. Then finding out he was Markovs mate, and that he'd known for years? Yeah Cassius went to the top of my shit list.
It broke my heart when we finally were given the truth behind Cassius actions. I almost felt guilty for my previous dislike of him. Thankfully when it came down to it Cassius came through and did the right thing, but by then he'd already paid the price. Markov was an amazing mate and so was his kraken who was very present in this book as well. I admired how Markov stuck to his guns when it came to protecting his mate, even from his bullheaded brothers.
We get some serious headway on ridding the world of the big bad in this book. However, it's not over yet. Kelvin still has his book next and I wasn't at all surprised at who his mate turned out to be. Although I do wonder why it took them so long to figure it out. I guess I'll have to wait for my answer once the next and I'm pretty sure last book in the series comes out.
Markov is the fourth book in the Tangled Tentacles series. Each of the stories overlap, so you’ll want to start with Alexi first. Markov simply put was fantastic! I couldn’t stop reading all night long, sleep is so overrated! Markov hooked me right from the first sentence. Markov and Cassius are awesome together, they work well as a team and a couple. Cassius was Markov’s old Shadow Commander. He’s hiding a big secret. Markov is helping his brother’s mates hunt down missing dragon eggs when he goes missing. There’s some serious heat and steam between Cassius and Markov, you can’t run forever from your fated mate! There’s some really twisted twists and turns that surprised me. I love that we get a glimpse into Alexi and Danik, Victor and Azim, and Todd, Lucas and Ki’s lives with their babies! I’m still mad at Alexi and Victor! lol! Overall, a fantastic addition to the series. Well written with pacing that just flows and sucks you into the story!
The best book of the series so far, this book had me reading for most of the night as I couldn't put it down! It's much darker than the previous books in the series (this is book 4) which is to be expected as Markov has gone off alone, on a mission to find the missing dragon eggs. What he didn't expect is to be tricked and led straight into Andromedas lair, putting both his and his Krakens lives at risk. When he hasn't been heard from for weeks and they can't even reach his Kraken, one of his brothers as instructed calls Cassius, who upon hearing the codeword left by Markov, immediately realises what has happened. He rushes off to rescue the mate he has long denied, for reasons that become clear as the story unfolds. What he doesn't expect are the horrors that await on the ship, both in regards to other shifters and the secret that's been keeping him from Markov for so long.
I loved this book and although there are some very dark and descriptive scenes, which were essential to the story, these were balanced out by Markov's mouthy Kraken, who was very amusing at times, some unexpected mating 'gifts' and also the path he and Cassius found to finally complete their mating. It was also good to see the other brothers and their babies again, except perhaps for Alexi and Victor who were annoying as they could be! To fully appreciate this story, the other books in the series need to be read in order.
This is Book #4 in this TANGLED TENTACLES SERIES!!! OMG!!! These two Authors make magic separately, put them together and it's just absolute GLORY!!! I'm not telling what kind of shifters these two are, in case you're new, I don't want to spoil anything. I will say Cassius and Markov are a match made in the deep blue sea. This Book is AMAZING, PHENOMENAL and EXCITING!!! I never put it down!! JP SAYLE and LISA OLIVER teaming up together for this Series is just better than any of my words can say. Duo's like this are rare. I loved this Book and all the Books in this series. If you want to read something really REMARKABLE start reading. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND THIS MAGNIFICENT TANGLED TENTACLES SERIES!!!!!!!!!!!!
Going in I wasn't sure how I'd get on with Cassius who hadn't endeared himself to me with his talk about mates. Quickly that attitude changed as his reasons became clear. There's a lot of action in here and really, I think there needs to be some warnings about the science experiments and deaths of new characters because, wow, it got to me in places. Alexi and Victor did annoy me a little but their feelings are valid. I think a little more communication could have gone a long way, but it makes sense why things went as they did. I was hooked on this book. So much happened. There are so many twists and turns I hardly know who's good and bad and it's down to Kelvin's book to sort it all out. Can't wait
Love these characters! Great book! Totally recommend this book, you won't be disappointed! Absolutely worth it! Can't wait for the next book in the series!
MARKOV is the fourth book in the Tangled Tentacles series and follows Markov and Cassius through their trials and tribulations to find the happiness due to fated mates.
Oh, man. I knew this one was going to be a doozy! You know, when I started this series, I was immediately taken into their world; seeing and sympathising with these last-on-earth Kraken shifters. Their backstory was so sad and I loved it when Alexi found his mate. Since then, I've stayed with them and thoroughly enjoyed each story - some a little more than others, sure - but still loving every moment. It was obvious there was something going on between Cassius and Markov but we had no details as to what or why. We get ALL the details here and they are worth waiting for!
This pair of authors knows exactly how to tug on my heartstrings. They always manage it, even when I'm expecting it. I won't go into details (spoilers, don't you know!) but I will say I was gripped by every word, every scene. Todd and Kelvin are the ones who are there for Markov in this book, and I'm really hoping Alexi and Victor will pull their heads from their behinds and realise what they are doing to the family.
The overall story arc moves on but we still don't know the full picture. It is Kelvin's story next, with his FBI guy, and the epilogue is a full-on teaser. I can't wait to read his story.
This is a fantastic addition to a series I am loving. Highly recommended by me. ** same worded review will appear elsewhere **
* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. * Merissa Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books! Sep 16, 2022
One of my favourite of the series with Todd's book 🥰
However the ending felt really rush related to Riley coming back, we have basically no explanation of where he came from and as much as I agree that the humans supervisors and the doctor were arrogant assholes, there is arrogance and being stupidly delusional in situations...like how did they get to their positions by being that stupid?!
Anyway, I read this for the paranormal fluff and not for airtight plots so I'll move on to the last book ^^

Reviewed For Love Bytes – 4.75 Hearts Rejection is a bitter pill to take, but rejected Markov was, by his fated mate Shadow Commander Cassius. Believing he’d never have a family like his brothers, Markov vowed to do everything he could to ensure their safety, even if it cost him his life. To that end, he went after the phenomenon known as Andromeda, a danger to all paranormal entities. Discovering what Markov had done, Cassius drops everything to mount what he is sure will be a rescue mission. Because regardless of the situation between them, Cassius can’t be in a world without Markov. What Cassius discovers blows his world apart. Markov is one of the novels in the Tangled Tentacles series that I salivated with anticipation at reading. Possibly because Markov and Cassius have military backgrounds, and I hoped the action would reflect this - I wasn’t disappointed. From the first page, I was riveted and had to continue reading until certain events happened. Then I could put it down and go on with life before having the chance to pick it up again. The story is told in the third person with alternating chapters from the viewpoints of Markov and Cassius. Kelvin stars in the Epilogue as book five features the last brother. I couldn’t comment on technicalities because I was more interested in the story and forgot to look or make notes. The collaboration between JP Sayle and Lisa Oliver has thus far produced a super series different from anything I’ve read. Once I adjusted to the alternative of Kraken’s having sex with a range of other paranormal beings – in this case, a shark – the way the heavy chunk of tentacled sex is written will make most people want a Kraken mate. Markov and Cassius make for one hell of a power couple. But their union doesn’t come without its conflicts - within the family and the military. Anyone who has read the series will know what those could entail. Anyhoo, Eventual time with the family children is so damned cute; I couldn’t help smiling. Buuuuttt, back to the main arc that flows through the series. This takes another step towards completion, which leaves me wondering how events will play out in the next novel, as the ending left me with a mixture of emotions. Overall, I was treated to a well-written super action-packed story mixed with conflict, revelation, cuteness, and a hefty dose of rough-and-tumble tentacles. My heart rate had a range of beats from in the mouth to melted. A definite recommended read. This book was provided free in exchange for a fair and honest review for Love Bytes.
This book was the one I was looking forward to the most since Victor's book, but it was the one I liked the least... At first when Cassius explains his reasons I was like ok, it's understandable I don't know what I, myself, would do in that situation, maybe I'd do the same.... Did I wonder wether he could have talked to his mate about things and ask for his help? Yes, I did. It wasn't like he couldn't have made it possible to work with the Thalassa brothers while still make it seem as he was following orders... But I guess it was for drama purposes.... BUT, what I did not like was the complete lack of guilt or moral struggle Cassius had... I mean he had to do bad things, dropping cases, looking the other way, ignoring innocent people in need of help, and all because he was being threatened. I wanted to see the struggle of doing bad things to protect what was important to him but no, he looked at himself as ONLY a victim and that nothing he did or didn't do was his fault, that all the people that suffered or died because of his actions had nothing to do with him... That no one should be mad at him... The way he downplayed Azim's suffering and almost death, as "but he returned safe and sound, nothing happened" that was the moment I completely lost respect for him... Victor had every right to be mad at him, and Alexi had every right to suspect wether he was still compromised, but no, everyone got mad at them because they didn't instantly forgive him... And the way that went was not handled well either, couldn't Cassius have talked things through? explained what happened even if he wasn't ready to go into all the details at least explain the overall of the situation? Instead of shouting and again making light of his actions that lead to Azim being kidnapped again? And then storming out mad at everyone for not forgiving and forgetting? Really, Alexi and Victor seem overprotective but them being the oldest in charge of the safety of their 3 younger brothers after the death of their parents, wich were hunted, they don't seem that unreasonable... They might be stubborn but they are smart and they have smart mates with them that are not afraid to speak up when they need to, I know they'll come around. But the way all played out was disappointing... And let's not mention what a letdown it was when the matter with Andromeda was resolved, I just couldn't wrap my head around it, that was it? 500 years of criminal experience and he was taken down that easily? I only finished reading as I want to read the next and last book and see how the story ends, I hope I like Kelvin's book better.
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.
This is book for in the Tangled Tentacles series, and you really do need to read the other three, Alexi, Victor and Todd, before you read this one. There is an on-going story arc that is not really fully recapped here.
The first three books were fab, great and I really loved and enjoyed them. While I did enjoy this one, though, I found it missing. . . .something!
When I sat down to write this, I knew something was off, and I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but now I'm here, I have had a bit of a light bulb moment and I will come back to it in a mo!
We knew Markov had issues with Cassius, and that they were mates and Cassius had rejected him, so poor Cassius was not seen in a good light up to this point. But when we find out just WHY Cassius did what he did, you fully understand. Markov does too, and that's the most important thing. Once Markov knows the full story, he lets Cassius in, and it really was wonderful to read, them getting to be open with their feelings for each other. How THAT all resolved itself was amazing though.
We find out more about the missing shifters and what's been happening to them. Markov got first-hand experience of that. It does something, though, to his kraken and the result is both amusing and powerful, and both Markov AND Cassius benefit from that.
The other brothers all take part, and we get a lead into what is the final book . . .maybe. . . in this series. Given what happens here, at the bottom of the Mariana Trench, makes me wonder! It's clear from previous books that Kelvin, the last brother, and the F-B-freaking-I-guy who has got him all a-fluster will get together, but I wonder why they didn't get that message before now!
Back to what I felt was missing, and it really did just hit me as I started to type! Markov is a kraken and Cassius is a Hammerhead shark. They do get their smexy times in the sea, but what I really missed, and I've no idea WHY I felt it should be here, but, book feelings, people, was there was no time in the pool at the bottom of the Thalassa building and I missed that! There were no beautiful descriptions of singing from the kraken either. Oh, don't get me, he gets himself HEARD loud and clear, in more ways than one, but in the other books, pool time involves kraken singing and I don't get that here.
Still a very good read, and I am thoroughly enjoying watching these brothers fall one by one. Can't wait for Kelvin and what's gonna happen there!
Honestly, I can't say enough about this series! Not only does it feature a family of rare shifters - Kraken - but it pairs these brothers with an eclectic mix of other shifters and paranormals, and weaves a very intense plot around these fated mates. This is the fourth book in the series and focuses on Markov.
Markov met his fated mate, Cassius, when he joined a special military unit, but Cassius refused to acknowledge their connection. Five years have gone by and Markov has done everything he can to bury the hurt of rejection and the longing for a mate that doesn't want him. But things aren't always as they appear! When Markov is captured by a ruthless enemy, it is Cassius who comes to rescue him. Events happen, secrets are revealed, and Markov's Kraken makes an earthshattering move that will impact the entire Thalassa family.
This book dealt heavily on the topic of forgiveness and dealing with perceived betrayal. It really showed how strong the bonds of mates are and how much they will go through to protect one another. I felt so much for both Markov and Cassius. What they go through is heartbreakingly difficult and yet they both show strength of spirit by being willing to work through their past and hurts. I loved how Todd and Kelvin were willing to accept and move past their preconceptions of Cassius and I kind of want to knock Alexi and Victor upside their heads and tell them to get with program! Lol I can't wait for Kelvin's story!
I highly recommend reading this series - start with Alexi - and I'm definitely not ready to see it end! 10/10* stars So freaking good!
My review for this is a little late but better late than never, right? It took me a few days to read this, it was a bit slow paced compared to the previous books. There was plenty of action and I love the storyline and having more of the mysteries solved. I enjoy how the story arc is woven into each book and keeps continuing, I'm looking forward to Kelvin's so I can find out more about what's happening with the missing shifters and the missing dragons eggs.
These two were difficult for me to like for some reason, both were incredibly bull headed and stubborn. I understand why Cassius behaved the way he did, I just can't help but think about the fact that he never once wondered if the photos were forged? He was a soldier essentially, he had to of known that was a possibility. And Markov? Why did he have to go lone kraken?
I wish we got more information about the extra abilities that each of the two men got when they mated, things were mentioned but then it never circled back to them. I also wanted more of Cassius in his Hammerhead shark form, we got plenty of Kraken's, so I just wish there was more of a shark point of view too.
Also, just a disclaimer the emotional whiplash I had while reading this book was insane. Overall really well written and another excellent addition to this series.
I highly recommend reading the previous books in this series before reading this book.
*I received a copy of this book and this is my honest review.*
Binge-reading/listening to them. Seriously you would not be able to tell two authors have written this book, as it seems so well written. I would highly recommend it.
I loved the characters and the relationship between Markov and his mate Cassius. Such a sad story but well worth staying until the end. The story was great and kept me involved throughout. I would recommend it to anyone who likes shifter romance.
The narration by Kevin Earlywine was on-point; his different voices made it easy to follow the story. I did speed up the audio to 1.25 on audible, which is typical for me.

Markov deserves better. In the author's other works, she talks about how a fated mate once rejected will actually wither away and die; I don't know if all of her shifter books are in the same universe or not, but this book doesn't make sense.
How has Markov and the shark even lived knowing one didn't want the other? There was also too much introduction of other potential plots introduced that the author doesn't even touch.
And seriously... Is no one bothering to ask or investigate in this book (or even HINT about doing it) where the kid came from? Anyone? Anyone at all?
Markov is amazing in this book and proves that he is the shadow protecting the family. And that he is willing to sacrifice everything to protect them.
Anyway, I hope you like the book better than I did.
I am glad to see my instincts were correct in that Cassius and Markov were mates. Wow. This series is ramping up and I can’t wait to see how this all ends in Kelvin’s book. Cassius has suffered enough and Markov’s other two brothers need to get their heads out of their a$$. I absolutely loved this story and am going to go devour the next one now. I love this series about kraken shifters. The characters are so good…all of them…and I really can’t get enough. I will be reading these again and again.
Parts of this broke my heart and shattered me to my core (Cassius's past). Markov had his own grizzly reminders of his past with Andromeda too. Andromeda was pure evil, and what he did and ordered to be done made me sick to my very soul. His henchmen made bile rise up in my throat (their corruption, words, and deeds). I did like the special effects each man got from the mating. The enhancements were life changing! The twist in chapter 25 was beyond emotional!!! The teaser for the next book is intriguing!
In the fourth book of the Tangled Tentacles series, it is Markov's turn to finally get his mate. He has known Cassius, his old Shadow Commander was his mate for years but Cassius rejected him. In this book you find out the reasons why and that his love was returned after all. In between all the action, you find sexy times and the denial stemming from sacrifice and love of family. These two men suffered more than most and finally have more to gain.
My mind keeps getting changed on who are my favourite and least favourite characters in this series. Cassius redeemed himself. I was happy to see this couple get their hard earned HEA. Victor and Alexi both need their heads knocking together and I can’t wait for Kelvin’s book.
Just keeps getting better and better. It is one of those scenarios where you think the guy from the previous books can't possible be redeemed for his actions and then he turns out to be the mate of one of the brothers......As always, now waiting desperately for the next book in the series.
The twist and turns that this story takes are many, the best thing to happen is that mates working together can overcome so much. This is a great story from abduction to kidnapping and shifter magic to black (death) magic. A kraken will make your heart beat and your mind take a wonderful trip in time with this story.
Very unsatisfying as nothing gets solved. Their , their , we don't get any answers to the why, how and the extent of it. Honestly, I actually quite liked this instalment right up to the end when It felt forced, didn't fit the story at all and threw me off. They had made peace with their pasts as much as they could and then that happened. I was so annoyed.
Another banger form JP 🔥 it had me lol loved Markov's Kraken he is hilarious. Action packed and some wonderful moments that will have you up in your feels 🥰 Brilliant series if your thinking of starting then start with book 1 Alexi 😍
As a whole I'm enjoying this series and this book is one of my favorites in it so far. I really liked that Markov was a shark shifter. I also liked the glimpse of the other couples we have already met. There was a lot of action and mystery in this one, which was fun.
I say this because I hated Cassius' character so much. A writer who can evoke such strong emotions is ro be applauded. The backstory left me crying and well you have to read the book to enjoy its ending trust me well worth it
This pairing gets teased in book 2, but yikes does Cassius have some groveling to do after his prior behavior. Much drama from the second chance and the kidnapping and the revenge for the murder of the krakens' parents. This might be the most violent book in the series.
