Bestselling author Sharon Gillenwater writes stories about love—between a man and a woman, of family and home, and the everlasting love of God and Jesus.
She grew up on a ranch in the Rolling Plains of West Texas, near the small town of Colorado City. Marriage took her across the country, but Texas is still dear to her heart. All of her Christian contemporary romances and most of her Christian historical romances are set in small West Texas towns filled with rugged, yet tenderhearted cowboys and strong, yet compassionate women.
While on a trip to England and Scotland years ago, the history and people captured her imagination. After returning home, she discovered Regency romances and another favorite time period and setting. She currently has two Christian Regency historical romances available, along with three sweet historical Regency romances.
She and her husband live in a quiet, rural area of Washington state with a wonderful view of the mountains. A friend once commented, “It’s like a writer’s retreat.” Sharon agrees and is busy dreaming up stories about Texas cowboys or English and Scottish heroes and the women who win their hearts.
I really enjoyed this story. Historical romances always make me imagine I am there viewing what is really happening. Katie, was pretending to be a maid in her grandfathers house. She wanted to get to know him and reunite her father with his dad. All sorts of things happen to keep this story interesting. You must read this one.
Loved all three books. You might want to get an actual proofreader instead of spellcheck though. Several words were wrongly used, although spelled correctly. One or two words were missing altogether.
A maid disguised works @ her grandfather's estate hoping to observe what kind of man he is. Her grandfather had disowned her father. This is a regency story beginning in 1814.
Characters? Gosh, perfect for the regency period. We’ve got a Scottish lady who pretends to be a maid and a duke who is so closed off and tries to keep his emotions at bay but is still adorable. I loved that Kate is such a life-embracing young girl who is stubborn and doesn’t let others dictate her life. Plus, I love her knee-jerk reactions. ;) Awesome.
What I didn’t like? Ah, of course, it’s the whole forgiveness thing again… I just don’t get it why the son of an earl who was thrown out more than 20 years ago would want to reconcile with a bitter old man… And I don’t get why a 20 year old would do anything to make that happen. Ahm, this earl did this to himself. Let him rot… But no, of course this can’t be done… Ach, so annoying…
Plot? Historcal accuracy? Most of it was really accurate and I liked that. The only thing that was a bit off was the writing style and the dialogues per se. However, I loved that we got some news on the whole background of that time, some historical battles, some war tactics but also that we found out more about spies at that time. Plus, we get a glimpse at the lifetime back then, especially when it comes to festivities – for the common people and the nobility. What I think was a bit disappointing, though, was that we never get a glimpse at those who were really poor at that time. And if, they are only referred to as ‘criminals’. Rubbed me wrong.
Why only four stars? Well, I only really have one negative point and that’s the writing style. I totally adored it throughout but in the end, it was just a bit too clean for me.
Historical English romance set in London and a bit in Scotland. I really liked this historical romance about a maid with a big secret finding love with a Duke. So totally in the realm of fantasy, but a very fun clean read! I just finished a re-read of the Wallflowers series by Lisa Kleypas and Devil in Winter is still the best one! That series is more realistic, but just as fun as this one. We find the 'Ice Duke' Lord Colton Lydell, the Duke of Ryland who is stiff and more then a little grumpy with everyone. Ryland goes to visit his mother is who is newly wed to an Earl when he meets a downstairs maid, Kate. Kate is secretly Miss Catriona Denley the granddaughter of the English Earl. So there was a falling out with Kate's father and the Earl because of Kate's merchant background mother's marriage into the family. The usual stuff and romance and BAM! Colton and Kate are friends and then more while traveling back and forth from London to Scotland because of a plethora of death threats to Kate's father. Super cute story. 309 pages and kindle freebie 3 stars
The description of the book I am listing below is from the back jacket of the book. I'm adding it because I believe the one on the Goodreads page does not depict this story.

This was a delightful book! It kept my attention all the way through. I just loved the heroine. She was so spunky and level headed at the same time. I know I'm being picky, but someone wishes you " happiness " after you get married not" wishes you happy " afterwards. And yes, I spelled hieroine wrong.
