I checked out two books on lowering cholesterol my library had, and at first glance I thought this was the better one as it covered so much. But it started to feel like it included too much shallowly. It feels like a compilation of every article Prevention magazine ever published relevant to cholesterol. I ultimately felt the other book, Cholesterol Down by Janet Bond Brill, which focuses in depth on just 10 things with more depth and a good structure was more useful. That said, both books were published in the early 2000s and are somewhat dated in that they don’t include some more recently popularized foods. For example, this book mentions yogurt, but not Greek yogurt. There’s no reference to quinoa. These foods weren’t really available to most people back in 2002. There are also many more vegetarian options for protein than there were 20 years ago.

There is an updated edition of this book, published 2017. I’d say this is still useful, but the updated edition is likely better.

Having recently been diagnosed with high cholesterol, I found this book was very helpful. It is an alphabetical list of ways (mainly foods to eat and not) to lower your cholesterol. Many of them I was aware of, some were obvious (lower your fat, exercise, stop smoking) but there were several that were new to me. I wouldn't use it solely, but it was a good jumping off point for my new healthy living.
