What do you do when the God of Death shows up at your place of work?

I took a job at The Pleasure House to help my father pay back a group of unsavory aliens. With an alcoholic father addicted to gambling and an awful reputation as an entertainer, things look bleak.

Until I meet Anubis.

Not able to speak a word of English, his piercing emerald eyes seem to set my soul and body aflame with desire. Unfathomable desire that peaks on deadly. Burning every thought into ash and melting all logic in a gooey puddle of desperation at my feet.

This is a hard pass for me.  I wanted to like this because the concept of a woman meeting Anubis in a romantic context seemed interesting.  But like a quickie in a back alley after a night of drinking, this book felt rushed, grungy, and leaves you feeling vaguely ashamed of yourself for going there in the first place.

The prose was simple and clear if a little on the spare side. Dialog tagging for characters was lacking and there are more than a few spelling and grammar errors. Even basic ones like your/you’re. I chalked this up to this being a self-published work. I used to receive printed ARC’s to review in my previous job and always understood an ARC being “ready to publish”, I was willing to have some leeway for an independent writer but this book does not feel ready to publish.

The FMC Tracy is underdeveloped and under-characterized. I know her name and eye color and that is about it.  No idea of her motivations beyond the most threadbare porny type of incidents. She lacks agency and may as well have tripped and fallen on the MMC's dick for all her say in the matter. She is Lady Who Gets Fucked.  If that's what you're into, fine, but even the smut is lacking and at times off-putting.

The story has several scenes that definitely count as Dub-Con as she is forced to have sex because she has no money.  So this means blowjobs for taxi rides, which are grimy and not erotic at all.

The sex that should be sexy feels cribbed from pornos. At least the author didn't spell out moans and groans but there is no art here, no tease, just perfunctory fucking.  This is supposed to be a monster fucking book, the appeal being the lure of the strange and alien. She is hooking up with many aliens and Anubis the God of Death, and beyond a few scattered mentions of their physical appearances, they may as well have been just some random human dudes. There were limited sensory descriptions and the FMC’s psychological needs are never explored at all.

The male main character is a virgin who morphs into a sex god at a rate that is as rapid and unbelievable as the plot's pacing. His characterization is related to us by Tell not Show and mostly through the telling of our FMC Tracy. I don't get why she falls for him beyond her telling us she is, maybe his magic cum as well.  The world-building is fragmentary and can be best described as (known human monster) is now an alien: aliens who have weird dicks and like to fuck humans. So FMC Tracy works at a brothel to fuck these aliens because her dad owes alien gangsters money.  A tissue-thin plot contrivance that if I squint I'm choosing to see as clumsy plotting by the author rather than a cynical, contemptuous REASONS, but it is close.

Tracy ping-pongs from situation to situation, landing on dicks while she does. A succession of cum-soaked but for all that, arid and passionless sex scenes that, while frequent at least wrap up quickly. No Grand Guignols of lust here.  In fact, I had to reread a few times to see if Tracy got to come at all.  She does. At that point, I just cared merely in the interest of parity.

The author once again tells us the reasons leading up to the climax which is left unresolved and on a cliffhanger. This book is part of a series by the author so likely the problem will be resolved in the next book. Or not.  Because none of it matters.

There are no believable stakes in the book at all. I kept hearing John Mulaney saying, “You ever have one of those days where you go, well, this might as well happen?” I kept hearing that voice echoing in my head as the scattershot plotting yanked me hither and yon. Don’t get me started on the complete failure to deal with Chekov’s Magical Bracelet. I kept waiting for it to be significant. Nope. No payoff, just a plot contrivance. So much of this book is the author hammering square pegs of characters and plot beats into round holes with zero consideration for story structure.

We limp to the unsatisfactory end and I am again reminded of the back alley hookup. With a clear head, I am now regretting my choice to be there in the first place.  This is not a series, or author, for me.

Got an arc for this. My second arc 💙

This book was cute, fun and spicy. I loved the plot and Charlotte and Zhrui's inclusion in this story was great. I especially loved Anubis's inexperience. So funny and cute 🥰

I can't wait for the Orc brothers book 😍

- Rough sex
- Belly bulging, and bucket-loads of fluid
- Size difference, tentacle-ish appendage
- "Favors"
- Cliffhanger
- Interconnected with other books in the series
- Monsters in every shapes aka aliens

Tracy's dad is in a bad way, a really really bad way. After amassing a huge gambling debt and almost losing his life, his daughter is given a month to pay it or he dies. After hearing about another human woman joining the ranks at the Pleasure House, she decides it's the best way to get gold fast. Unfortunately things go awry, it's still not enough. At least until she meets Anubis and her entire world turns on it's head.

Anubis isn't what you think he is, well he is but he isn't at the same time. He is a God, not an Alien, but in this world the Old Gods are all sort of intermixed. The mythology we know isn't quite what it actually is. If you're looking for accurate depictions, this is not it and it's really not even close. But I wasn't mad about it. Truthfully, this is the first book I ever saw pop up by this author and I had it in my cart for a long time before I actually bought it or read anything. The cover was so eye-catching because of my love of Egyptian mythos.

The only real complaint I have for this one is I found Anubis' complete lack of understanding of anything human to be a little unbelievable, but the thought of this big scary dog-like God tilting his head in confusion was a cute one. If that's what the goal was, I can get behind it. Maybe it's because he didn't understand, but Horus (which makes an appearance) understood humans no problem, so that's probably where my disconnect happened. But it's a minor hiccup and didn't detract from my enjoyment.

Again, this is a standalone in a series, but it is much better read in order. The characters interact and things happen in the last book that connect to this book. And things happen in this book that will absolutely be addressed in the next book. I definitely would not recommend reading as standalones.

The cliffhanger in this one was brutal. Possibly because book three isn't right there to immediately jump into and seek answers. Reader beware.

Once again this author offer an intriguing story that keeps you interested.
Although it’s still a little fast paced I didn’t feel lost and rushed like with the first one.
I’m the first one jumping from action to action and place to place forced me to keep up while not immersing in it. In this one a lot happens but more seamlessly.

Being a human on post-invasion Earth isn’t the easiest. Jobs are hard to find, money is impossible to keep and threats on your life are everywhere.
The top of the food chain suddenly stumbled at the very base of the pyramid.

Tracy has one more things against her, debt.
Her father lost a lot he didn’t have gambling. While Tracy isn’t afraid to barter her charms for necessities if really needed. She didn’t particularly want to work at the Pleasure House. Since Charlotte left, Tracy is the only human there now and being an exotic treat she’s on high demand.

Anubis’ whole existence has been driven by his duties.
He’s regimented and doesn’t do much else than what he has to.
Tracy unearths in him feelings and desires he can’t even begin to comprehend. When your sole existence is to judges souls and help them cross to the afterlife, carnal pleasures aren’t on your radar.

These two chemistry is instant and explosive.
They’re really cute together as Anubis is quite an eager puppy when it comes to learning this new approach to life.

I’ve now read two of this author books and they are really entertaining and fun. They read quite quickly. For me they where the perfect little interlude after a heavy read or before and intense story.

If you like reading about aliens, monsters, fantasy, and a TON of smut, Melissa is your girl! Her new book, Worshippers, definitely fulfills that criteria. A human girl working in an alien brothel, Tracy, meets Anubis, the God of Death. Then.... wonderful smut ensues! This story has a jealous possessive god claiming his spunky mate, even against some obstacles that come up. And allll the monster peens!

A fast, fun, super smutty read with fantasy, aliens, and Anubis. I do wish there was a bit more plot, but it is good.

Came for the smut and stayed for the amazing story! Immediately you are just completely immersed in this futuristic world and Melissa's writing makes it feel so real. It was so easy to get caught up in all the happenings going on in this story that you don't want to put it down even for a second!

Received a copy of this book as an ARC.

Had me until....

This has a far fetched premise, but since it's set in an alternate universe, you let a lot of it go. While this could be read as a stand alone, a couple of points made me wish I had read the first one. It was refreshing to read a story from the eyes of a woman who has to exchange 'favors' for things like cab rides. Normally the stories I read would paint her as a villain, so while it was hard to see how she was treated, it was nice to get a new perspective.

Anubis was so clueless it was painful. I liked that the deaths weren't skimmed over, but the amount of beings he killed over Tracy was too many. I had issues, but it was just interesting enough to keep me reading until he came into her room while she was on the phone with her father who was recuperating from being tortured by mobsters. Anubis then practically forced her to engage in loud sexual things while dad could hear. I couldn't anymore. Everyone has a line and a limit and that crossed both for me.

The overall plot was decent, and the characters are very likeable. As a person/reader/author/ Mythology expert, I feel like the clash of different mythologies was a bit rushed and not thought out entirely. The idea was there, just not translated right. Anubis of my favorite, if not my ultimate Egyptian God and the way he was portrayed was a bit... weak in a way.

While I will agree with other reviews on the point where Tracy does have a couple s*x scenes that may have been 'pointless' or 'not necessary' but I believe that that's reality for some and I think that was well represented.

As a published author myself, I think that Melissa definitely has the skills to write a BOMB book. I just think she gets caught up in 'I have to get it out and published' storm.

Another Great Read.

This is book 2 in The Pleasurs Program and just as good as the first. This is Tracy's story and how she comes to meet Anubis. There is a lot of drama in this book, so full of emotion and angst. It had me in tears at one point as my heart ached for the characters who have to suffer befoe fetting there HEA. It was good to see characters from the first and exciting news for the Orc twins to come in their book. There is also tbe underlying evil to those running the Pleasure resort, that hopefully, more will be revealed over the series.

⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

I actually liked and enjoyed this book. It was fast phased and easy to understand if english is not your first language. Although I do suggest putting more personality on the characters and more descriptions about the characters mind like how they feel on a certain phenomena/ situation. Build up also adds spice to a story.

Tracy was a good character and i'd really like to know more about her and her relationship with Anubis in the next books.

Overall the book was good, I enjoyed it, i liked it! <33

I have always been drawn to Egypt and it’s stories of their Gods, so of course this got my attention! @authormelissablincoe puts her own spin on the God of Death, Anubis.
The virgin God meets our MFC, Tracy who shows him what he has been missing for so long as their own unique love story grows 🖤
As usual I have read this out of order 🫣 but I loved it 😉

▪️A LOT of smut!
▪️Monster peens
▪️Sex workers

It is better than the first book in The Pleasure Program series. Melissa had outdone herself on this second installment. Other than a couple of grammar errors and spelling, the story was great.

I'm excited for more future books to come to this series.

3 stars for me. If you're looking for monster smut with very little plot than this is for you! Plus who doesn't wanna read about Anubis and his first sexual experience.
