Claire and Philippe Fontaine's journey begins with a tragedy, as they move to Paris to heal from the loss of their son. As they try to rebuild their lives, they find themselves in the midst of World War II, with France becoming a battlefield for Nazi aggression.
With the looming threat of invasion, Claire and Philippe face unimaginable challenges, as they struggle to keep themselves and their love safe. The fate of their country hangs in the balance, and as the conflict intensifies, they must navigate through the chaos and uncertainty.
But as the war rages on, their bond is tested to the limits, as they are forced to make impossible choices that will determine their future. Will their love be enough to overcome the horrors of war, or will they be torn apart by the violence and destruction that surrounds them?
As the stakes get higher, and the danger grows ever closer, Claire and Philippe must hold onto hope and trust in each other, as they face their greatest challenge yet. Will they emerge from the war unbroken, or will the scars of battle be too much to bear?
After the death of their son Louis, Philippe and Claire leave the comforts of their home in London and move to a small town in France. They were happy there for a while but the German army was advancing and they had to flee once more. While taking refuge in a factory in Paris with other refugees Claire meets Adeline who convinces her to play piano in a club. Claire played in the club much to the dissatisfaction of Philippe who thought it was his job to care for Claire.
One day the fight comes to Paris. Philippe is shot in the leg and they take refuge in the cellar of the club until they can find another place to live.
They know that now that the Germans are in Paris they must escape Paris. A great first book to a new series. I enjoyed this book and will await the next chapter in the series.
Love and Perseverance Loved the heartbreaking start to Faith Isabel Bloom’s new series “Love and Perseverance Series”. Claire and Philippe are trying to get over the devastating loss of their 7 year old son during World War II in London, England. To escape memories and nightly bombings they decide to leave London and start a new life in France, however, more hardships are to come. This is a well written historical story that tore at my heart the more I read. Looking forward to what the rest of the series will bring. I received an ARC of this book from the author in return for voluntarily writing an honest review.
Claire and Philippe have a beautiful and strong love for one another and are committed to helping one another through the difficult circumstances that surround them. Though tragic in so many ways, the story of their love is so sweet that it over shadows the tragedy--for this reader at least. I like a series that doesn't have too many books, but this short book I like. It makes me want to move on to the next but is not diminished by the shorter length. I am relatively new to this author, but I am already hooked by her writing skill, wonderful characters, and entrancing stories.
I requested this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
I’ve read other books by this author and will continue to do so. While her historical fiction tends to be war-based, she still employs characters with patience, hope, and perseverance. Life doesn’t always work out the way we want it to, but it’s helpful to know that actually doing something in times of adversity could strengthen one’s odds.
Great book but it’s a bit sad. Philippee got shot and it made things even worse for them. But losing their child Louis was so hard to move and push forward from. It’s something they’ll never move past. I love the romance and true love between Phillipee and Claire. Overall this was another great book by Faith . She’s a great writer.
