Thanks to BookSprout for a copy of this series and this is my freely given opinion.
I am not fully done this entire trilogy yet, but I am enjoying it more than I thought. I am not sure why now, but I had read the blurbs of these individually in the past and had it on my to-read list in my head, but was skeptical as to whether I would enjoy them or not. I used to read more fantasy, and paranormal based books in the past, but was not sure about these, perhaps fearing they would be too over the top, maybe?
So far I have read the first two and have to say that I have enjoyed the writing which is rich in how the characters are developed and defined, and the gothic feel is dark, brooding, but not overwhelmingly twisted and angsty, but with a satisfying build of drama.
In Cursed, governess Isobel Sterling is alone in the world and forced to seek employment, leaving behind her past and legacy in Scotland. She has grown up with magic and witchcraft, learning spells and healing crafts through her grandmother, but was forced to abandon that after an unfortunate event in her family, causing the locals to turn against her family. When they die, leaving Isobel alone, she leaves to find employment, and hides her past.
While caring for two children at the home of current employer, she is forced to confront her past when she meets and Italian Conte and his son, Matteo Garibaldi. He has a mysterious ailment that comes and goes, and she can see a darkness in his aura. She tries to ignore and avoid him, but from the moment he sees her, Matteo indicates his interest and seeks her out. Her past comes out and she is forced to admit to her nature as a witch when she is confronted by the darkness and demon within Matteo and has to save herself, drawing on her past learnings. She is forced to seek her past and regain that knowledge of her grandmother when forced by the Garibaldis to help overcome his possession.
Matteo shows a duo nature in this story, with the unpossessed Matteo being rather sweet and somewhat naive in some ways too. He loves Isobel and wants to protect her and hates what he has become and is forced to do because of the demon inside him. His characterization demonstrates the duology of good/bad, light/dark I guess. His father, the Conte is so very different from him, being much more the cold autocrat. The demonic Matteo is very dark, and lustful, and craves Isobel also, which lends a dark eroticism to the storyline. I really enjoyed that Isobel was the strength and hero of the story as well, coming to the aid of the ailing, possessed Matteo, despite the differing threats he and his father presented to her.
4.5 stars out of 5.
The second book, Black Widow, I loved. This follows a tangent off the first story, as it is about one of the students of Isobel, who had married the child she was also teaching, who were relatives of the Garibaldi's. Amelia was the ward of Sir Clarence, and had married his son Martin. They spent years together travelling the continent and had settled to an estate in Kent, when he died a sudden, tragic, violent death. Amelia's reputation was terribly tainted by society because there were questions and scandal about her involvement in his death, her subsequent relation with their neighbour and friend, Lord Crispin Worthing, and the fact that she is a cit's daughter, so a bit of an outcast to begin with.
Gideon Wells, the Earl of Flint, and cousin to Martin, is in London and determined to find justice for his cousin. So he investigates Amelia and Worthing to find out what their involvement and culpability in Martin's death was. Especially as rumours were that Amelia implicated her guilt in her behaviour and statements immediately following Martin's death -stating it was her fault.
Gideon has a history and talent for investigation, utilized in the recent past for the Government and the war effort. So he uses his skills to seek out the truth of Martin's death. As he investigates he finds out much more than he bargained for, such as the truth of the relationships between Worthing, Amelia, and his cousin, his own uncle's sins and ill treatment of his ward, Amelia, and fighting, then giving into his own attraction to Amelia. But he is a man who firmly believes in logic and is confounded and initially disbelieving when the cause of Martin's murder and continued threat to Amelia turns out to be paranormal in nature.
Gideon is quite alpha male in how he both tries to protect Amelia when he decides she is not the guilty party, and overwhelms her with his attraction. Amelia, is susceptible to him anyways as she apparently had a childhood infatuation with Gideon to begin with. He tries so hard to be the hero and protect her, when really, the biggest threats are to him and others around Amelia, as was evidenced by Martin's death, but Gideon is blind to this in his desire to protect Amelia.
I enjoyed the tangent but connections to the first story and found the characters to be well written and interesting, with a very interesting, twisty, gothic story line, and loved how, like in book 1, the women ended up being their own heroes.
If it wasn't for work, I likely would have read this one in one sitting!
5 Stars out of 5.
I have not read book three in this yet, but I am very much so anticipating it as it appears to be the story of Isobel and Marco's daughter... and considering Isobel was pregnant at the end of book 1, this makes me wonder if her story is linked to the demon-possessed Marco...
Will update when done!
Update added - I really enjoyed this series. The last story was quite enjoyable for me, with a Supernatural/Mayfair witches, but set in Regency England vibe. I loved the characters involved and the overarching family history involved as well.
I hope Lucy Leroux does more historical based paranormal stories in the future.
I loved reading the combination of these three books. They are a perfect mix between historical romance and intriguing fantasy/ supernatural novel
Since all books are different I have of course written 3 seperate reviews.
Cursed
At first glance this book is a kind of an easy going classical historical romance, but soon it turns to an intriguing supernatural tale that is never predictable. The main characters, Isobel and Matteo are very relatable and in the beginning, when the story is still more historical romance the pace is reasonably relaxed. But it picks up a little when supernatural issues present themselves. Although even then it's still an easy pace to follow and a relaxing read. But then, when it all gears towards a climax its pace quickens again. Very nicely done to increase the tension. I almost could not put it away.
Black widow
The book starts with a dramatic scene, that immediately draws your attention. Then it kind of goes back into historical romance mood, until the tension rises again. The main characters are relatable and some of the main characters of the previous book are named or appear in person. Gideon is an english cousin of Matteo ( who, at that time was settled in Italy with Isobel) and Amelia, is the previous pupil of Isobel ( who was a ward of the family Isobel worked for as a governess) Amelia grew up with Martin, the son of the family, married him and now is his widow. So I guess this story takes place about 15 to 20 years after the first book?.
The story is very unpredictable and intriguing, this is the case for both the relationships between people and the supernatural element. In the beginning when only 1 or 2 things were known about the creature ( its eyes and size) I still had no idea. But as soon as a third characteristic was mentioned, as a vivid fantasy reader I knew what the creature would be. But that definitely did not spoil the fun, since the writer did a very original take on that. I also liked that it was a kind of mulder and scully situation with one skeptic and one believer. Fortunately they kind of respected each others view. The climax could have been more dramatic / tense for me personally. It's kind of a contrast with the rest of the book. But all in all a great intuiging book.
Haunted
This book is again connected with the first book, by covering the next generation. It's about Isobel's gifted daughter Helena, and also has a quite large role for their adopted son, Tomas. This is again a totally different book and it leans slightly towards a gothic novel. Which is funny, because at a certain moment one of the main characters tries to pass himself of as a writer of gothic novels. The main characters are generally relatable. Less relatable for me personally was Lucien, who appears later in the book. He was focused on only one thing. (or should I say, he thinks with only one thing and it is not his mind😉) But maybe that was necessary for the story to work. Because later he becomes more sympathetic. The pace is a little slower then in the previous books. Maybe because of that it reminds me a little bit of the classic novels, like a super natural, more complicated and very sensual Jane Eyre ( absolutely not the same story though and I mean the slight comparison as a compliment) The real villain remains unknown almost until the end although there are several suspects. So the reader can try to figure out for themselves also..
I really liked that, even though the books are connected, the stories are all very different and surprising. If I would have choose a favorite it would be difficult to choose between “Cursed or “The black widow”
Isobel had been being taught how to survive as a witch from when she was young until her tutor died. Instead of finding a new tutor, her mother ended her training out of fear due to the danger at the time.
Matteo was cursed to live as a beast. He meets Isobel in her work as a Governess and is drawn to her in a way he has never been drawn to a woman before. Isobel is just as drawn to Matteo and notices the darkness that surrounds him.
In a bid to save him, his father brings Isobel to him just before he turns into his cursed form. Terrified, he begs his father to take her away as he doesn't want to hurt the woman he has slowly come to love.
When Matteo wakes, he finds not only Isobel missing, but he is unable to feel the beast that has lurked inside him for years. He sets out on a mission to find the woman who has not only stolen his heart, but also may have saved him from his curse. Will Matteo find her in time? And when he does, will she be able to find her future in his arms?
Black Widow
Blamed and ostracized for the tragic death of her husband, Amelia flees to mourn in private. Gideon returns home after receiving his cousin's title after his death, determined to bring his killer to justice. He is certain his cousin's widow had her hand in his death.
When Amelia rejoins society after her year of mourning is over, on the arm of her new lover, she is surprised but hopeful to see her childhood friend, Gideon. She receives an icy reception as Gideon vows to get justice for his cousin
Gideon sets out to find answers, but is unprepared for the desire he feels for Amelia. Soon, heated words are swapped for between the sheets' passion as they start to uncover the darkness behind Martin's death. Now sure that she had nothing to do with the death, he must look at his other suspects. But Amelia has secrets that she is keeping that could change the course of their lives forever.
Gideon must now not only find out the truth about what happened to his cousin, but also protect the woman he loves from the unknown threat.
Haunted
Helen has always known about the magic she wields. It made her an outcast to the children around her. Though she did have one friend, a boy, a spirit really. But as she grew into adulthood, so did he. Discovering he is English, she sets out with her brother's help, to find out just who her friend was in life, just after a brutal murder took place near her home.
Desperate to save her family, they travel to Devil's Side, a small English village, they find Lucien, nicknamed the "demon duke". Lucien is smitten from the moment they meet. But Lucien is hiding his own deadly secrets. And he will do whatever it takes to protect Helen and her brother from harm. A shocking betrayal from one they never expected sees Lucien and Tomas shaken to the core as they search desperately for the woman they both love.
Will they be able to get to Helena in time? Just what does our villain have in store for Lucien, Helena and their family?

Cursed It has so many different aspects that blend together to make a greater whole: Gothic mystery fantasy horror regency romance. What starts quite simply as an historical horror story quickly becomes something else altogether. I loved how brilliantly all of the parts blended together. I was fascinated with the chemistry between Isobel and Matteo - for so much of the book you're never quite sure if the connection is good or bad for them. I have to give credit to any book that successfully keeps distracted and prevents me from guessing the true culprit until the very end. I didn't see that one coming. Black Widow On the surface, this story seems so much more straightforward than the book before it, but it’s still nothing like I was expecting. It starts, quite simply, in the way of several historical romances I’ve read, with one of the leading characters looking for vengeance against the other leading character. Their lives spin a little out of control from there and we’re taken on the thrilling ride with them. Nothing is quite what it appears to be in either Amelia or Gideon’s lives. The paranormal in this book felt very subtle to me and stayed mostly in the background until quite near the end. The mystery in this story wasn’t as big a surprise to me as in the previous book, but that could simply be because I know about these things. I realize that’s the most wishy-washy statement imaginable, but I can’t think of a better way to say it without giving away all the secrets. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I was pulled into Amelia and Gideon’s world right from the start. I badly wanted to know what it was going to take to solve their situation and I couldn’t read fast enough to find out. Haunted A finely crafted mystery. A spicy, teasing romance. A paranormal adventure. This book is all of those and even more. The story hits the ground running and really doesn’t slow down for anything. I was immediately pulled into Helena’s world, and I didn’t want to have to leave it. With every clue she uncovered and every secret that was revealed, I was more and more invested in the outcome. And now that I know how it all turned out, I still want to know even more, because there’s a couple of the supporting cast that I think deserve books of their own. I received a complimentary copy of this book through Booksprout.
This Trilogy contains a mix of regency, romance, and dark paranormal mystery! Black Widow, a Readers' Favorite Gold Medal winner, is currently only available for review as part of this box set. Below is a review of one of the books to give you an idea of what you will find in this collection.
Titles included are:
🔪 BOOK 1 CURSED 🔪 BOOK 2 BLACK WIDOW 🔪 BOOK 3 HAUNTED
*** Reviewing “BOOK 2 – BLACK WIDOW” *** This story focuses on Amelia Montgomery and Gideon Wells, Earl of Flint.
Amelia finds her husband, Martin, dead with blood all over. Martin had been pushed or fell down the stairs of their home. Rather than accepting it as an accident, which it may not have been, everyone blames Amelia.
Gideon, who had worked in the War Office, now returns home to take over his inheritance of a new title and to look into his cousin Martin’s death, believing, like everyone else, that he was murdered by Amelia. He wants to make sure she is punished for her crime! But Gideon had been acquainted with Amelia from childhood, and their previous affection for each other was still between them. Gideon feels something else is going on that they are not aware of. Is she truly a Black Widow? Or are both of them in inexplicable danger?
This was different from other books I’ve read in this genre, but I liked it. The mystery gave it the touch of suspense that keeps things interesting. Amelia is strong and intelligent and I enjoyed her as a main character. Can she and Gideon find out what really happened to Martin? Grab your copy and see if you can figure out what is going on! Then don’t forget you have two additional books to enjoy in this Trilogy!
The first book is about Isobel and Matteo's relationship. Strange things start happening when Matteo and the Conte arrive from Italy.
Isobel is also hiding a secret, so she needs to be careful with what she says and to whom. However, she can't escape the constant gaze from Matteo and the feeling of something a lot darker lurking.
Will she be able to get away in time or will everyones secrets be exposed? Or will something worse happen?
I really enjoyed the first book, it wasn't clear immediately what was happening, which kept me intrigued and guessing. I prefer books where it isn't immediately obvious what is going on/going to happen.
The second book is follows Amelia and Gideon and is linked to book 1, but can be read on its own.
Something strange is also happening to Amelia, but it doesn't appear to want to harm her, only those close to her.
Can she work out what it wants before it hurts the person she loves the most?
Again, another great book. I wasn't aware beforehand that these followed on, but it's great that they do. You don't need to have read the previous one to read these individually.
The third book follows Helena and a spirit that wants more from her than she's willing to give.
On her travels to find what happened to the spirit, she meets the Duke who may have the answers she needs, but at what cost?
This is an amazing end to this trilogy, I was guessing all way through and still didn't work out who was behind it all.
This boxset is really good and I would recommend it to everyone.
I received a complimentary copy of the book and I'm leaving a voluntary and honest review.
Cursed (5 stars): It’s similar to a regency historical romance but with a touch of supernatural. It is very interesting and has a few descriptive sex scenes. The plot has a little bit of intricacy and there’s a twist I did not expect. This is the first book I’ve read from this author and I’ll be looking for more.
Black Widow (5 stars): It's a well-executed mystery romance story. Gideon suspects that Amelia had killed or had something to do with Martin's death. However, he is also very much attracted to her. As he is trying to get to the bottom of it, he is discovering things are not what it seemed. Adding to that is the passion between him and Ameilia can't be ignored anymore. The purpose changed to protecting her and figuring what or who could be tormenting her. It came to a head at the ruins of her old family home and how she handled her adversary after what was revealed from her childhood was a testament to her resilience. Equal parts mystery, romance, steamy sex and suspense made for a great story.
Haunted (5 stars): It has the right amount of steam, mystery and romance with a touch of the supernatural. Lucien’s, Tomas’ and Helena’s characters felt so alive in the story. I didn’t expect the culprit to be ___ and the motivation to be ___. Sorry, don’t want to spoil it for you. What can I say, it’s a very good story! Kept me guessing. Also, I was delighted to read more about Isobel, Helena’s mom.
I received an advanced copy and voluntarily chose to review it.
Enjoy the gothic vibe to this series! I’m not huge on regency romances, but add in that gothic vibe and a paranormal element, and I’m entertained! Cool stories with some passionate romances!
Cursed - Book 1
Isobel takes a governess job; things are going along nicely, but take a dangerous turn when some relatives arrive for a visit. Among them is Matteo; an intriguingly handsome individual who Isobel finds herself drawn to, but there are mysterious things going on and Matteo may be involved. Enjoyed the chemistry between Isobel and Matteo! Plus, the paranormal elements were interesting; good magical elements, and I liked how the mystery developed as the story progressed. An entertaining read!
Black widow - Book 2
The paranormal elements are interesting additions to the story, and an enjoyable bit of mystery involved for the characters. I like the whole not starting out on the best of terms scenario for the lead couple; he thinks she murdered her husband, so not exactly a good starting off point for romance. Not huge on the widow aspect, but enjoyed how Amelia and Gideon’s chemistry develops. Got some passion going on between these two! Enjoying this series!
Haunted - Book 3
Some cool occult magical elements! Enjoy the being haunted scenario; interesting mystery and suspense, and how that scenario evolves is interesting. Add in the romantic element and I’m enjoying the read! The story and romance with Helena and Lucien was great. Loved how they came to be in each other’s lives; good passion too! This has been an entertaining series! Enjoyed all the books!
This trilogy is a deliciously dark and steamy dive into regency-era romance, spiced with witchcraft, curses, and ghosts. Across three standalone-but-linked stories, Lucy Leroux weaves gothic mystery and high emotion into every chapter.
In Cursed, we meet Isobel Sterling—a governess with hidden magical gifts—who finds herself drawn to the brooding, cursed Count Matteo Garibaldi. Their chemistry crackles, and the shadows behind his eyes hint at something dangerous lurking beneath.
Black Widow turns the spotlight on Lady Amelia Montgomery and Gideon Wells, the Earl of Flint. Gideon’s quest for justice turns complicated as he unearths secrets darker than he ever imagined, while feelings he tried to ignore refuse to stay buried.
Finally, in Haunted, we follow Helena Garibaldi—a witch’s daughter haunted by a spirit whose demands grow more possessive and dangerous. Her journey brings her to a mysterious Duke whose answers come at a steep price.
What makes this trilogy a standout is its seamless blend of gothic horror, romance, and regency intrigue. Each book feels richly atmospheric ... walls whisper, shadows shift, and every confession carries weight. Yet it’s never just darkness: the love stories are grounding, sexy, and satisfyingly emotional. If you’re in the mood for a romance that’s both elegant and eerie, The Complete Spellbound Regency Trilogy delivers a compelling world of magic, mystery, and passion.
Cursed - Isobel grew up in the Highlands of Scotland. Her grandmother taught Isobel herbology and magic until Aunt Moira died. After that, her parents forbade her from continuing. When the townsfolk turned on them, Isobel started working as a nanny. It was during this time that she met Matteo. Black Widow - Gideon, the Earl of Flint, believes his cousin Martin was murdered by Amelia, so he sets out to prove it. Instead, Gideon discovers a complicated story involving his Uncle Clarence, the witch he employed, and the golem they created. Haunted - When Lucien, the person she had been dreaming of her entire life, saved her from being kidnapped, Helena decided to travel to England to see if she could find his spirit so she could lead him to cross over. The funny thing is, though, Lucien is real and just like Helena. This box set is full of action, romance, and steam, with each tale ending in a HEA. Very highly recommended.

⭐⭐ONE THRILLING JOURNEY⭐⭐ Hopping horses Hank! Lucy knocked this baby clear out of the park, displaying one heart-pounding, pulse-racing, adrenaline-pumping, page-flipping, rock-our-world, rousing bundle. Caught in a churning vortex chocked-full of spellbinding drama, unyielding intrigue, arresting suspense and nail-biting situations emerge as the alarming twists and astonishing turns abound. Amazing job Lucy, thanks for sharing this little bundle with us.
The Spellbound Regency Trilogy is a well written trio of unique regency page turning romances with well developed characters, mystery, suspense, witchcraft, magic, supernatural and gothic storylines. Here is my review of Cursed book one in the Trilogy. Cursed: Bk1 This is a Regency, paranormal, historical romance between a witch and a cursed man. Although it started out slow once it got going it was a page turner. Isobel and Matteo are well developed characters with intense chemistry and their story is filled with drama, angst, danger, mystery, suspense, magic, passion, and romance. I look forward to reading the next book in the Spellbound Regency series. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
This is an amazing series. It has some darker themes with captivating storylines. I have included two of my individual reviews for the book included.
Cursed Matteo is well and truly cursed but is Isobel as well with her streak of bad luck? This is a darker read that is exciting to read. I like that the accents are spelled out making for a more immersive read. There are some elements/situations that some will find to be a trigger.
Haunted This is an amazing paranormal mystery. It kept me hooked with all the different elements. It pulled me in so quickly. It is a heck of a journey that is wild, a rollercoaster and very intriguing. Helena is such a likable character.
The trilogy in one collection starts with twists and turns while dealing with a curse that no one seems to understand the reason behind. In the second, the kids are grown and dealing with a different sort of terror as well as old abuse at the hands of "family". Trust, lust, secrets, money, power; plenty to keep you engaged in the story and characters. Finally, a Duke with secrets and more magical characters join the story. As this is the last book of the series, it wraps up the strings from the previous stories. The Hex book 0, sets the background for this story and it's recommended you read first.
The Spellbound Regency Trilogy contains 3 standalone stories about 3 different couples, but contains characters that are interwoven throughout and is best when read all together. Magic plays an important role in each of the stories and the acceptance of magic is integral to how each couple comes together and defeat their enemies. There is plenty of steamy action that would've definitely raised the brows of the ton should it ever be brought to light. The storylines and main characters are all endearing and unique that you won't want to put this book down. Enjoy!

Historical mystery with a feel of a true Gothic romance. I can’t tell you how these spellbinding books captivated me from the first page of book 1 to the last page of book 3. The characters are so well done as was the story itself. I loved the Gothic supernatural feel to the stories. I love Paranormal's and this group of books is one of the best collections I read this year. If you like historical with a Gothic feel than this is the collection to pick up. It is a five star all the way. I did receive a free copy of this book from Booksprout and voluntarily chose to review it.

Three women, three curses This spellbinding trilogy covers the story of three women with white magic, who are confronted with curses, murder and mayhem, and even a golem – this ancient creature constructed of clay. All three fight for their convictions and for the men they love, determined to save them against all odds. This masterful trilogy is breathtakingly addictive. This collection truly delivers everything it promises: Gothic atmosphere, romantic tension, Regency-era charm, and even a touch of fantasy. Each story is well written, with characters who feel fully developed and engaging. The blend of eerie undertones and elegant historical setting works beautifully, making every book in the collection a pleasure to read.
I enjoyed all of them from start to finish. If you love Regency romance with a darker, fantastical twist, this collection is an absolute delight.

This Spellbound Regency set is amazing and original in its storytelling and suspense! Each book has a different couple with a plethora by mystery, suspense, danger and unknown forces at play. They also throw in some witches. And steam….all the steamy scenes!
Well done and highly recommended! A great bundle! Love this author and her versatility!.

I loved that each book was a separate story and they were really fun to read. I don’t typically do regency or historical books, because I’m such a stickler for accurate historical information but in fiction, that’s not always what you get. This set is great for that aspect. If you do like historical romance, grab these books, you’ll be glad you did.

Three fantastic standalone dark romances that hook you easily from the beginning until you have binge read them all at once. Brilliant characters with personalities and attitudes that blend just right. Storylines that get your heart pumping with suspense and hope for a great outcome. A series that you will not forget very soon.

Who knew Regency Paranormal was a genre I'd been neglecting in my reading?? This series gave me a good dose of what I didn't even know I was missing. Lucy Leroux is talented, and this is a well-written series with magic, mystery, passion, drama, intrigue, and satisfying HEAs for 3 different couples. I loved it.

Great set of Regency romances with strong characters and page turning adventures. The author brings suspense and danger, magic and mystery adds in the romance and delivers a terrific collection of stories.

Cursed, Black Widow and my favourite - Haunted! What a magical set of stories to get lost in over the weekend. Loved the female characters - Leroux writes three-dimensional, strong and conflicted women, and her relationship build up’s are filled with angst and suspicion - loved them all!.
