So what do a temporal paradox, World War II, and Charles Manson have in common? - Me! I was responsible for all three of them. Don't worry. We can always fix those later. Everything is temporary.
The great thing about my job is, that it does not matter how bad you are at it. You can always go back and fix things later and nobody will remember. Temporal agent, it's called. For a guy like me really the perfect line of work.
A sarcastic look at time travel from an Everything is Temporary is the perfect book for the summer.
This is not a book for delicate flowers. If you belong to those please bloom somewhere else.
I’ve always loved a time travel story, which is likely thanks to the Back To The Future movies coming out when I was a child. As I’ve got older I’ve been drawn to stories featuring some more mature takes of the genre. Everything Is Temporary isn’t trying to make grand statements about how the world might look from a ‘What If..’ point of view. It’s a mystery thriller and it’s a fun story. It’s written with a decent pace and holds the reader throughout but for me it was missing something. I liked, and disliked in equal measure, the flawed main character and enjoyed seeing how he got the answers to the questions the story raised. I just wasn’t totally engrossed. There’s not something I can pinpoint, I liked the story, it’s well written, the characters are, for the most part, interesting, but maybe it’s just not perfect for me. Books can be like people; we simply won’t love them all. It just seemed a bit flat at times. To anyone thinking of reading it themselves I’d say, ‘Why not give it a go? It might be perfect for you.’
More of a 2.5 stars for me, but rounding up to 3 because I like to be positive. It could do with some editing (grammatical stuff, misspellings, nothing big). I didn't think the main character was very likeable or dynamic. I'm going to think about this more and maybe expand on my review in the future...
A great time travel story with a protagonist that feels more real and grounded than most I've seen. It is a twisted tale that, like most good time travel stories breeds paranoia... But most importantly, no spoilers.
