In VOLUME 8* of The Things Our Fathers Saw® series, you will return to the Pacific with our veterans as they recall the chaos in the aftermath at Pearl Harbor, the first challenges on land at Guadalcanal, island hopping with the Marines, Navy, and Army at the Marshalls, Marianas, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. You will witness the most horrific bonzai charges of the war, accompany airmen on their B-29 missions over Japan, and lean over navy corpsmen as they work to save the wounded.
I've read all eight of the "The Things our Fathers Saw" series, and I believe On to Tokyo is the finest and raised the most emotion for me. This volume really dealt with the close-in fighting that took place in the Pacific, and they shared many stories of how the war affected each individual. It even took us into the Occupation portion after WWII, especially in the Pacific Theater, and the emotions that the war left upon these men who gave everything for America. We got to look inside their hearts and heads as they thought back to the war years, and what they carried with themselves to the end of their lives. Powerful stuff, especially for those of us that had parents in WWII, many of whom never shared any of their own experiences. I feel like this book filled in some of the gaps for me related to how I knew and understood my own father. Thanks, Matt Rozell.
Mathew Rozell allows us to bear witness to our generation who dropped everything and answered their nation's call to defeat the tyranny and oppression of the axis powers. Young men coming together and doing the work of giants. Eternally grateful to hear it from their perspective.
We are getting to the point that we are losing our WWII Veterans at an alarming rate, and with that the greatest generation history and personal experience is being lost. But, Mr. Rozell is bringing this to us. I have read all his books, and they are all great.
Tremendous effort to bring us into the minds and actions of the veterans who faced the final days of the battle in the Pacific War. It keeps you in the edge of your seat as the days and nights of this part of the war is told through the eyes of our combat veterans.
Every book in this series offers an amazing first hand account by many veterans who fought there. Alot of them now have passed, and this intriguing series is important to preserve their place in history. I love this series and I think it's a great read for any enthusiasts and lovers of the subject.
I love this series of books and this one did not disappoint. These books matter because they are actual interviews with the men who were there. This book covers most of the significant battles in the Pacific by men who showed incredible valor and sacrifice. I love the greatest generation!!!
Do your WW2 obsessed self a favor, and get these books. I WANT to zoom through the latest volume, I COULD zoom through, but NO. This series is coming to an end, and I am savoring each word, remembering each hero, crying at each death. Just outstanding stories of real heroes, doing what they did best. So I can write this today, in freedom.
