I have wonderful parents. They did their best to raise me right.

I was taught that cheating is never okay. That honesty and communication are important in all relationships. And that I should be respectful of authority figures.

Then, a lot of things happened.

Now, I find myself second guessing everything I've been taught.

My parents are good people. But am I? I always thought I was. Until I was caught.

Once again Cole Denton has Caught me up in a story that is for sure going to wreck my heart and add some spice to my life!!

From the moment I turned the first page I was captivated by the story Cole was telling about a young boy who was trying to not only survive but enjoy life the best way he could.

Fast forward several years and that boy is now in college making it through life once again after a terrifying tragedy changed his life forever. A tragedy that he would always blame himself for.

Except he never saw HIM coming. The man who captivates his thoughts and body making him want something he never thought he would want again.

Caught is just the beginning of the Redemption Series and even though this was a short read that didn't lessen the impact this story had. I can't wait to see what lies ahead for Justin and Lucas.

Good grief Cole Denton! Why do you do this to me?!

I’m no expert on this author’s incredible writing but from what I can tell so far, he likes to rip his readers apart before slowly piecing them back together.

In this case Justin, a fourteen year old boy from Lithuania is both a witness and the victim of a hate crime. The worst part is that he blames himself, especially for the lives that were lost.

If that wasn’t bad enough we have his poor sister who is inflicted with Batten’s disease. It’s devastating disease that ravaged her very young body.

Is your heart broken yet? Because mine is in tatters.

Jump forward five years and Justin and his family are in California (I mean it’s a Cole Denton book IYKYK) and life’s not perfect but they’re making it work.

Enter Professor Grant, our silver fox daddy! Can you say yum? Because every chapter narrated by this man had my panties on fire!

I’ve given too much away already but y’all this is an 85 page intro to the series and it’s packed more than a punch. It was like a bomb detonating!

And that ending?! Omg! How you gonna do me like that Cole?! I should’ve waited until the next book came out to start this like my original plan but I’ve never been known for my patience.

Oh wow! This book made an impression on me and it’s just the intro to The Redemption series but it packed a punch!

We meet Justin at 14 growing up in Lithuanian with his parents, big brother and little sister who suffers from Batten disease. They want to go to USA for treatment but struggle to afford it and the boys help out taking care of their sister.

Justin and his friend are fascinated by some MM magazine they find and end up involved in a hate crime and by circumstances lose the house and his mother to a set fire 🔥

Fast forward 5 years when his family ends up in California for his sisters treatment. Justin is in college while his father and brother work long hours to support the cost of medical bills and living cost so Justin can get an education.

Enter silver Fox professor Grant aka Lucas, who takes a liking to Justin. The attraction is mutual and they start a physical relationship. And… book two out March 30th 2023

Well, I am somewhat annoyed that I have to wait for the next book for another few weeks but I am definitely 💯 looking forward to it.

And I’m 💯 reading more books by Cole Denton 🙋🏻‍♀️

Tugs at the Heart

I realised I'd read this years ago when it was part of another series. Even so this was still as enjoyable as the first read. My heart breaks for Justin and for the guilt he carries over events that were beyond his control. My heart also aches for Lucas, who's suffered his own heartbreak. I'm looking forward to seeing where their relationship goes and hoping both men can find the love they need within each other.

This story definitely tugged my heartstrings. I was so saddened by Justin and his family, what their home country was like and that their sister Remi was so sick. Moving to the US after such a tragic loss, their lives seemed to be better, Remi was getting better care, Justin and Nic were able to adjust to school and working. I absolutely loved that Justin found someone to feel comfortable with and make him feel special. Lucas was a force like no other and was nurturing, caring, loving and so much more. Well written and brought the story to life, Cole brings all the feels and always knows how to grip the heartstrings.

This boils my blood.

Just as I thought that everything would be ok, loved ones lost their lives. A Stranger lost his life. Hate crimes... They're for weak, ass bullies, that probably have a hidden desire, that they're ashamed to admit, and take it out on other people.
Everybody wants to be treated the same. It doesn't matter who you love. I'm not a person that uses the hate word much. But, this right here, pisses me off..
Cole Denton sure knows how to put into words, what keeps me wanting more.

When I went to read the sequel to this (Captured), I went back to this book to do a quick review, only realizing that somehow, I forgot to review it.
I only have only complaint about the book and that was it was over too soon. Cole always has a way of giving you enough, but at the same time wanting more. Justin surely had been through a lot in his young life and it was still ongoing. From his previous life in Lithuania to his current life in the US, his lived in some kind of hell. Lucas saw something (and someone) in Justin that touched his life as well. Through Lucas, Justin could achieve more and bring more to his life. They each brought each other something to cling to.

So hot!!!

Cole never fails to deliver. This dark, twisted story is filled with angst and tragedy, but also with optimism and so much heat! Justin is filled with guilt and grief over his past, but still strives to work at a better life for him and his family. When circumstances bring him to Lucas, will he be able to overcome the stigma he placed upon himself? Cannot wait to read more about these two!

Eh. Got this book in a queer romance book box and read it in one sitting. There were some interesting ideas (particularly the trauma and resulting psychological scars in Justin’s back story and his sister’s condition) but they were never fully formed. This read like the beginning of a novel, not a complete story in itself. Also the connection between the main character and his love interest was quite abrupt. I wouldn’t recommend it, but you could do worse.

Caught

I re-read this book, so it was fresh in my mind before I started book 2.
Justinas and his family have not had an easy life. After a heartbreaking trauma, their family finally get help to get to the US, for help with his sister suffering from batten disease.
Justin still has trouble with bullies but has found a friend and protector in Lucas.

I’m shocked at how well written this story is and how much I loved every word. This book captured my attention from the beginning and I felt so much tension and emotions from the moment I started reading. I can’t wait for more.

Well no surprise there, Cole never disappoints me with his stories. My heart broke for Justin and I can’t wait how his story will turn out. Let’s hope Lucas is the right person for him…

Another captivating read by Cole Denton! Once I started Caught I didn't want to stop. Spectacular storyline. Exquisite writing. This short story is a real treat with characters you want to embrace. Caught is full of emotion - sadness, anger, guilt, insecurities, love, and romance. Justin is a suberbly crafted character. Lucas is the character to "save" Justin. This age-gap, dark romance will have you on the edge of your seat. I wasn't ready for Justin and Lucas' story to end. Another 5-star, heart-warming read from Cole Denton.

Review to follow... 4 months later 🤦‍♀️
I started book 2 and noticed I never reviewed book 1. I wrote to review to follow. I remember this book being very emotional and sometimes certain things hit closer to home. This was that for me and while I took time to think of what to write I forgot to actually write it.....😬. Between Rami's illness and the tragedy that took place I was 😭 like a baby. I'm so ready for book 2.
