In Saint Gabriel City, the rule of the Four Families ends now.
They’re bottom-feeding criminals pretending to be the model of the American dream.
They suck the City dry to serve themselves and the elite class that licks their boots day in and day out.
They murdered my parents out of sheer, unbridled greed.
And now, they’ve dared to take Zach from me.
With my boys, my family, and the Shadows by my side, I’ll finish this fight. No more dancing around the corporate boardroom—we’ve come to destroy the Families, and we’ll give it everything we’ve got.
And we’ll continue to run the halls of Holywell Academy while we do it.
Peter Hargraves, Andrea Ferrero, and James Spencer—I’m fucking coming for you, and your sons will be by my side to the bitter end.
This is a New Adult, college-aged dark academy romance. It is the third and final book in the trilogy and ends with a HEA. It is also a WhyChoose romance, which means our heroine has multiple love interests, and she will not have to choose between them. As always, this series is for readers age 18+ and contains a ton of foul language, very steamy scenes, and violent themes. If you’ve read Storm the Gates (A Knight’s Revenge Book 1) and Seize the Castle (A Knight’s Revenge Book 2) and want to see how Jolie and the boys get to their happy ending, jump in!
The plot was okay I guess, not sure, was too busy fuming over the clusterfuck that was the romance.
Nothing bad about the romance itself, but the way it was written was SO bad. The smut was cringe and too fucking much. This series started out with it being how RH should be written to how RH definitely should NOT be written.
This is a prime example of why I usually stay away from RH that is not set in a paranormal world where it's normal to be in a polyamorous relationship.
This book singlehandedly assassinated THE Jolie I knew & loved. Now she was just a simp who was horny all the time. I don't mind "touch him and die" trope, but I didn't need to hear it every time "her boys" got nicked by a needle.
And the guys just started to blur together I didn't even know who was talking most of the time they started to sound the same.
They also got hard at the mere presence of Jolie now and it was getting old real quick. I wanted to see badass Jolie from the guys' point of view, but all they had to say about it was how violent Jolie made their dick hard. Oh please.
Ok, so this one was my least favourite. I feel like the book could’ve been half this long, it felt like the author plugged sex scenes as fillers and it felt really unnatural at certain moments. Like we get it, you’re horny, now where’s the plot? 3/5
The whole series deserves an infinite more stars, hands down one of the best, if not the best bully romance
I am literally heart broken about the fact that the series ended. The series was absolutely phenomenal and I f*cking adore, love and respect Jolie. The girl is the epitome of strength, sass, badassery, intelligence, clever brain. I loved the boys though I did continuously cuss the three throughout book one and Bennett throughout book 2 ,to grow a pair of titanium balls and stand against their emotionally, psychologically and mentally abusive birth givers but I loved their tenacity and strength to tolerate and bear the pressure and grief their sperm and eg donors gave them, though I also felt that Bennett was let away a bit too easily after his jerkish ways.
One of the best thing about the series is that we get to see Jolie not getting distracted or succumbing to horniness in book 1 and 2 or getting dicktamized or hell not thinking with her vagina unlike seen in a lot of bully romance tropes with apparently strong badass fmc.
This whole series is nothing less than masterpiece. Chunks and Chunks of respect and love to the author :))
I went into reading this series blind. I read the blurb of the first and thought why not? Let's give it a try. I was so glad that two books were out and the third was not far away. For Fans of Hannaford Prep this is for sure a book you should read.
When I read Hannaford Prep my biggest issue was the age of the main characters. Here the main characters are a little older, but it's still a issue for me. Because they are ruthless at an age of 17 or 18 when the series starts. I understand that both series are put into an Academy/College setting and it is kind of needed for the stories. Still I think that the main characters are too young to have so much life experience. That comes with the time you have lived.
I liked the Miller family and how they took Jolie in and are protective of her. They don't enable her but make her capable. Jolie is a strong, intelligent FMC who has trained hard for her plans. She is sassy and never forget to focus on her main goal.
Max and Mari are cool side characters. Max had the same training that Jolie got. Mari was a little more sheltered. But because she loves Carmen, her family makes her life hell. Mari has the biggest personality and skill growth in this book.
Frankie is a fun character. He is a psycho but on the other hand, he is very loveable. I'm looking forward to Max's and Frankie's story, and if there will be more than two people involved in this relationship. I also like the dynamics between Mari and both guys.
In my opinion the first two books were the best and the third book was weaker than the other. When I reread the third book, it kind of dragged. I skipped the smutty scene and the plot still dragged. But it is an okay finale for this series. And I'm sure, that I will reread this series as often as I reread Hannaford Prep!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I have been waiting for this book for what feels like forever but hey, that's what happens when you binge an incomplete series that you end up being obsessed with! I was more than ready to watch Jolie and the Shadows stop pulling their punches and to begin their attack phase of take prisoners. And with Bennett finally onboard the Jojo train, all of the heirs are now ready to take down the remaining heads of the families once and for all! ♟💪🏻
This book picks up right where we left off and can I just say how impressive it is that Elizabeth is able to have so many side characters that all feel so unique and in depth with their personalities that they seem to take on lives of their own. I'm not just talking about those in the inner circle including Dom, Laura, Max, Frankie, and Mari. I'm talking about even smaller side characters like their tech team comprised of Zepp, Silver, and Marcus, Shadows Kara and Julie, Bennett's mom Bridgette and her bodyguard Martinez, and even the antagonist side characters that continued to drive me crazy, Harper and Chad. With so many extra characters that all appear pretty frequently it can be easy to gloss over them to ensure that the main characters continue to shine. These characters however are so fleshed out each with their own stories that I can definitely see the possibility for multiple spin offs in this world later on down the line!
Now to discuss Jojo and her hot harem of men. Jolie is still an absolute beast of a queen and I love that a consistent theme in these books is that the guys are always the ones having to hold her back and not the other way around, very refreshing! 🤣 Come for her and she has no issue, but any slight against her men and she is ready and willing to destroy lives! Basically, Jojo is my spirit animal and I wanna be like her when I grow up, no cap. Moving on, I was so happy to finally have Bennett all in to complete the harem and his complete 180 was everything I didn't know that I needed! His attitude in the earlier books made it difficult for me to see the appeal but wow, I get it now. His possessiveness and complete obsession was so hot, not to mention that revenge scene, iykyk! 😏 Just like I had anticipated, these three made incredible team when it came to taking care of Jolie, no matter what the combination was! I can't decide if I even had a favorite spicy scene because they were all so hot every single time but I think it would have to be between Bennett's revenge or Noah's student/teacher role play! And per usual, the guys and their banter with each other and Max as he continuously riled them up had me continuously cracking up!
The same can be said anytime there was a group conversation happening in general really, there were a bunch of moments where I found myself laughing out loud due to some of the back and forth these characters were having with each other. This found family is second to none and I know that I will be thinking about these characters for a long time to come. And our queen Elizabeth has already confirmed that we will be getting one of the stories we've all been begging for since book two, Frankie and Max! Those two are some of my favorite characters in the series because I adore their personalities and their energies are top tier! I've been super curious to know what happened with them beforehand and I already know that their story is going to be absolutely delicious!
I'm a bit sad that this series has come to an end because it is definitely a new favorite of mine but what a wild journey it has been! Filled with tons of action from start to finish, a fierce and powerful FMC, hot possessive men, a top tier found family, endearing and charismatic side characters, a riveting revenge plot years in the making, and banter for days, this will be one of my go to academy RH recommendations for years to come! It's a new goal of mine to work my way through Elizabeth's backlist because I'm obsessed with her story telling and will definitely be keeping up with all of her releases from here on out! 🤍
This final book is getting the full five stars just because this whole series is bloody phenomenal and I binged the whole entire thing in a day, I was that invested in the story. I totally recommend reading this i couldn't put this down and I'm so sad it's now over. This is a series I will probably read again in the future I enjoyed it that much. Here we see Jolie, Noah, Zach and Bennett all finally on the same page and invested in their relationship as well as the drive and desire to topple the current status quo, grinding their mutual enemies to dust and they are ruthless which I loved.
The might of the Knight and everyone behind Jolie work together as a team to achieve their goals and every one of Jolie's men is right by her side supporting and loving her. This harem's chemistry just works they slot together like missing pieces of a puzzle, together they're a solid unit, a self-made family and Jolie is their world and she feels exactly the same as them. This was also the steamiest one yet the smut scenes were supernova and the dirty talk the stuff of cold showers.
The plot was fast-paced and the action non-stop and I didn't want this to end. But it was also so satisfying to see certain awful individuals get their just deserts. I can see this author being an auto-buy for me as I've just connected so much with everything I've ever read from them. This is reverse harem done right the whole series was bloody amazing.
Lackluster ending. Everything is wrapped up with a pretty little bow but it was so boring. I barely made it through and honestly had to skim some. The author has chosen to focus on things that aren’t important in order to wrap all the little storylines up. She’s back dealing with things that happened in book one but were so far away from those moments. We could have just had a quick line of how it was handled instead of whole chapters. That level of detail and run around was just not necessary at this stage of the series.
Maybe it would have been fine had there been a lot of good swoony romantic scenes to balance all the plot stuff. There’s no romance in the whole series IMO. Book one had very little romantic aspects at all. Then book two has a few but it all just petered out once we got into this book three. This one was just all horniness all the time. At least there was tension in the previous books before they were all together. I could barely tolerate the sex scenes because the characters had no chemistry or intimacy so it just read like bad porn. Really bad porn. Wordy porn 😂.
There’s a lot of telling verses showing throughout this whole series but especially in this book three. I wanted to see them be more cunning and plotting instead of just hearing everything they did after it’s done and we’re in the consequences phase. It would have gone a long way for their intimacy for us to see them all working together and not in the sexual pretzel variety of working together. So much drivel. These people are in the fights of their lives! It all comes down to this and it had none of that intensity, terror, urgency that I wanted. Blahhhh. Just boring. So freaking boring.
Audio: 4 stars for Stefanie Kay 4.5-5 stars for Gregory Salinas, Gideon Frost, and Michael Gallagher.

Okay, this wasn’t great, I saw the negative reviews for this book, but thought it wouldn’t affect me as much. Looks like I was wrong haha!
Jolie was not the same badass as in the first 2 books, and I am going to skim to the end to see the outcome, but I am not going through the next 200 pages of nothing of interest.
I enjoyed this series as a whole, but I have to say it didn’t quite go out with a bang…🫣 This book was just slow and I couldn’t get into it like the first two. I did however enjoy seeing a happy ending for Jojo and her guys!
Wow! This has got to be one of the best debut RH / why choose series out there. I couldn’t put this book down! The writing is phenomenal and will have you at the edge of your seat for the entire series. There isn’t a a dull moment. Hands down one of my favourite RH series ever, and I read quite a lot so this Truly stands out. I don’t think I’ll ever stop recommending this series
The plot is incredible, with many twists and turns. The authors descriptions are so vivid you can truly envision the world she’s letting you into.
The characters are complex and really well written. Jolie aka Jojo is a total badass who gives as good as she gets. As for the men- Bennet is your possessive alpha male with ‘touch her and become unalive vibes’ Zach is the easy going, slightly unhinged lover and Noah is the sexy nerd who bring the dirty talk and Dom vibes. Difficult to choose which one I love more. I love the side characters too Max is the best annoying brother out there, Mari is a bestie every girl needs and as for Frankie- gives out hot insane p$ycho vibes. I can’t wait for the spin-off novellas
If you enjoy why choose romance with a sassy, feisty heroine, hot men, witty dialogue, secret society Academy vibes you’ll love this book.
Jolie has had enough of the three families' behavior and sets the final stage of her takedown plan in action when Zack is taken from her. In this plot of revenge, betrayal, and lust, a bloodthirsty heroine and equally brutal heroes will tear down St. Gabriel city.
Oh my goodness I cannot even begin to describe how much I loved this book! Jolie acted like a queen and let no one stand in her way. I absolutely adore her relationship with the guys, and secretly wish I had that for myself. Minus the bloodshed and trauma of course. Bennet just stole my heart in this book, although he was nasty before, his best quotes are some of my favorites from the whole series. On a side note, I am super excited to see more of Max and Frankie's story.
Seeing Jojo come full circle and wreak vengeance on those who wronged her and her parents was extremely satisfying. My favorite thing about this series is that Jolie is an equal to Bennett, Zach, and Noah, not a woman who settled in their shadows. She could hold her own and was not afraid to get her hands dirty. Jolie led by example, with grit and grace, and I adore her. She got her boys back, kept the backing of the chosen family who had rescued her, and made a few new friends along the way. I am absolutely stoked to read Max and Frankie's story someday!
Absolutely amazing!!! This series is now one of if not the best series I have read in a very long time! Now I just need some Frankie and Max and everything will be perfect!
I hate when a strong female lead finds a love interest and it's all irrational behaviour, teddy bears and sex. I understand soft moments but this was just too much.
I also still believe that they don't have the chemistry of a polyamorous relationship. I don't mind the sex she has with them individually but together, it is either a powerplay or a porno where two of them are watching as Bennett shows why he is really their de facto leader.
I also wasn't too feeling this revenge plot at this stage of the game. Nothing showed me why the First Families were a force to be reckoned with. Despite their history with Jolie and her age, I can't imagine them underestimating anything or anybody. After all, they did try to kill her as a child. These diplomatic and weak responses left much to be desired. Hate to say it but Elise Proctor was right. They are children playing at an adult's game.
Somehow, this story veered off course and I just got bored and wanted it to end. The consolidation of their assets was stupid and I missed Jolie/Joanna's sharp everything. Having boyfriend battles with out-of-towners added nothing to this story. We just started filling pages and losing the true sense of the characters.
I wanted to see Noah running a business and teaching, Bennett conquering everything and Zach hosting a slew of sex parties. Where did their individuality go as well?
I also do not agree with Jolie's decision on miraculene. It was once again the thoughts of a child.
It's not that any part of this book was really bad, it's just not the direction I was expecting. I lost the things that made me basically inhale the other two books.
Plus side, Frankie and Max will have a book and we got a preview.
In this last book Jolie is with her boys and they have all acknowledged they are in a poly relationship together! Their goal is to finish toppling their parents, the heads of the last 3 families but their parents won’t go down without a fight!
There’s blood, torture, action, love, sex, and friendship sewn throughout the book. It’s a perfect escape to get lost in this work of fiction and just enjoy the ride that Jolie and her boys take you on.
I also LOVE the teasers of Max and Frankie and can’t wait for that story to come out!
Excellent Conclusion!! From the first chapter it held my attention! We continue to get action and suspense, and we get a lot more steam too!! The spicy scenes, whether one on one or group were so hot!! 🔥 Jolie, and her guys were truly a force to be reckoned with. There was no doubt in my mind that they were all truly devoted to Jolie and that she loved them fiercely. I honestly couldn't pick a favorite guy, each of them were so important. I really liked that we get more Bennett in this book because he had finally proved his love for Jojo. I loved seeing the guys officially stand up to their parents. Things definitely weren't smooth sailing, but that made the journey and finally the ending so much better. Fantastic job!! I loved it!!
There was always a single way this could end: bloody. When Jolie comes back for revenge she will not give up until her enemies and everything they stand for is eviscerated. Jolie and her crew manage to (almost) always be a step ahead. Always ready to strike at the enemy in a low and dirty way that really hits them right where it hurts most. Its been a long road coming for them all to find a HEA. One by one their enemies fall paving way for a clear and safe future for them all. Gone are the far too powerful Families and instead Jolie and her men completely transform everything their last name stands for. I really enjoyed this series and the side stories and characters were a nice addition? I really love Frankie and Max, honestly I thought they’d pair up with Jolie’s bestie and her gf but alas I guess they’ll all just be besties.
Jolie, Bennett, Zach, Noah, Mari, Max, Frankie, Dom, Kara, Julie, the Shadows…
They all know how to take care of business, and Jolie knows how to lead them.
And Noah knows how to get JoJo to behave 😏😏.
Kill the King is exactly the conclusion to this trilogy that I wanted, and it had lots and LOTS of revenge. In many different aspects… 😏😏😏. My favorite was Bennett’s *revenge* on Zach & Noah for something that went down in Seize the Castle. I have never read a revenge scene quite like this one, and let me tell you… it was 🔥.
Kill the King has plot, action, heart, humor, and a whole extra level of spice. Elizabeth Dear just keeps leveling up on that front!
Can’t say too much more regarding the plot in case of spoilers, but I will say that you won’t be disappointed by the *conclusion* of the Four Families.

Summary:
❌ it's so stupid and childish. The evil parents could've just killed the FMC in book 2, because murdering people has no consequences in this city. Also they spend their time killing people and go back to school the next day ❌ it's too long. It should've been shortened ❌ MMCs personality is being obsessed with the FMC
Went through another re-read/re-listen to this series.
It’s still a great series and the narrators are good.
Jolie is a great FMC and I like all the guys as well.
The degree of lust/sexual interest that is inspired based on the violence in the book creeps me out - but I just try not to think about it in the context of the real world. As an alternate reality, I can focus on how badass Jolie and her guys (and surrounding family and friends) are.
