Here With You

Rate this book
A swoon-worthy family drama filled with heartbreak, happiness, and a happily ever after...

Emmaline Brown had been in love once, but when Miles McClintock cracked open his family’s secrets, he ruined a lot of lives and crushed Emmaline’s dreams. With Miles no longer an acceptable suitor in her family’s eyes, she chose the life she was born and raised for—to run The Brown Resort. As part-owner and operator of Willow Bay’s largest luxury property, she’d been delivering happily ever after to the hundreds who flocked there each summer. She thought she was content to live her life alone, but that all changed when Miles McClintock came back to town.

Paramedic Miles McClintock left Willow Bay decades ago in disgrace. One honest decision lost him everything, including his family’s honor and the love of his life, Emmaline Brown. Luck had never been on his side until the day he was summoned home by his ill mother. One stop at the Five and Dime would change his life. An opportunity to run the resort next door puts him exactly where he wants to be—straight in the path of Emmaline Brown. She had once loved him when he was a wealthy rancher’s heir, but could she fall in love with the poor man he was pretending to be?

He feels abandoned. She feels betrayed. Can their love for one another douse the burning rage that keeps them apart?

Favorite Quotes:

Her anger disappeared in an instant. When a person had nine toes inside heaven’s gate, there was no room for petty squabbles.

Tilly touched the crinkled corners of her eyes. “You don’t have crow’s feet. Yours are more like sparrow’s feet.” She thumbed the corners of her eyes. “Look at me. I have pelican claws.”

By tomorrow, she’d have to shove this year’s butt in last year’s jeans. It would be like putting ten pounds of taters in a five-pound sack, but what did she care? No one was looking at her taters, anyway.

Not everyone was cut from the same cloth, and poor Margot was burlap in a room of Egyptian cotton.

“I’m the ash man.” He gave him a sly smile. “Seventy years ago, I could have dropped the h and added an s.” He chuckled. “The mind is still willing, but the body gave up long ago.”

In her other hand was a little black dress. It was so tiny that if she bent over, she would become an underwear model.

Miles entered the house. It smelled like dusty curtains and death. Anyone who told him death didn’t have a smell had never experienced it. It was sadness, anger, and unfulfilled dreams mixed and left in the sun to rot.

My Review:

Another engaging and enjoyable small-town, second-chance romance from the insightful and witty pen of Kelly Collins. Her uniquely flawed yet endearing characters frequently have me wanting to give them a good pinch or ten, but I trust they will eventually see the error of their ways and retrieve their craniums from their colons as Ms. Collins is a guaranteed happy-ever-after raconteuse. She has never failed to bring a delighted smirk to my face during perusal.

I kind of feel like Miles is the hero we all need in our lives. He’s quietly capable and, pretty much, just spends the whole time simply getting it all done. Emmaline was prickly and opinionated and really quite difficult for me to like for a lot of the book. I loved where the story was able to take these two, it’s healed some deep family rifts, but I occasionally had my doubts about whether or not we were going to get there. Now, as we get to know more about the supporting cast, I’m more and more excited about the possibilities for the rest of the series.

The second time is sweeter.
Miles and Emmaline have a history, but due to the actions of others, they were separated. But time has moved on, and they are old enough to make decisions on their own. Will they get a second chance? Because Miles has returned to town and is back in Emmaline’s orbit. There is wit, secrets, and fireflies.

Thank you to the Booksprout and the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

You Don’t Know What You’ve Missed Until It’s Gone

Some people don’t deserve a second chance and Emmaline may just be one of those. Yes, when she made that fateful choice way back when, she was young but was she gutless too … or was she she more concerned about her pride when Miles’ family cut him off? Whichever it was, Miles suffered and Em built up a wall of denial.

Both were young but Miles paid a terrible price for doing the right thing. And that one decision not only cost him the love of his young life but his family also. Em simply tossed Miles aside but did she ever have regrets.Passing the blame is easy, especially when you make up petty excuses and convince yourself it was you that was wronged. Em knew and still knows what she did. She was just too prideful to admit it. Now, can she set up a fix and repair shop for love when 30 years have gone by? Will she get out of denial to even try to fix things?

Little does Em know that Miles never got over her. She was the perfect amount of sass and class to make him happy … Miles’ words, not, mine. But this time he needed to be extra careful. After all, she left him when he’d lost everything. Now that he’s sitting pretty in the money department, he can’t let her know. He needs to know she loves him, not the money.

As for Em, she’s a character. She’s controlling and a fighter who tends to get her way. Is this time different? As Em’s friend told her: “What kind of friend are you? You opened up Heaven and invited Hades inside. Who does that?”

So how do you repair families torn apart? This is way more than a love story, even more than a second chance story. It’s recognizing what went wrong. It’s putting families back together. It’s taking responsibility for the past so a new future can be built.

🤔 OBSERVATIONS AND QUOTES I LIKE:

✒︎ “good manners were free, but forgetting them would cost her dearly.”

✒︎ “As she thought about the day Miles left, old feelings churned inside her. People expected her to break down after the breakup, and she did, but never in public. She was southern born and raised. By day, she appeared unphased because that was how the Browns did things, but she cried into her pillow every night for a year.”

✒︎ Looks like Marybeth needs to do more witnessing. Keep in mind Marybeth is a woman of faith and a preacher’s wife.… “True,” Marybeth said. “Let the dead rest and stop living by their rules.”
“She (EM) didn’t want to point out that Jesus had been gone for thousands of years, and they still lived by His rules.” (Sure glad I’m not Em as I plan on never dying, just moving to that mansion in the sky that He is preparing for me. That’s my reward for ‘living by His rules, Em. I’ll never die, just change residences.)

✒︎ Tilly may be the queen of the kitchen but she’s a friend first of all and she won’t play games…. She tells it like it is. Em messed up big time and Tilly won’t let her get by with puny excuses. Em caused her own troubles and Tilly makes sure she knows it. “

✒︎ May sighed. “It’s all my fault. I should have asserted myself years ago, but I grew up in a time where what the husband says goes, so I defaulted to his idiotic sense of justice. If we are having a round of confessions, I’ll start. I’m sorry I wasn’t strong enough to stand up to your father. He was a mean cuss, and I was afraid to speak my mind. Because of that, I’ve lost decades with my child, and now I’m on borrowed time, and I realize how stupid I was.” ” (Ahhhh May, who are you trying to fool? You grew up when the number one song was ‘I Am Woman Hear Me Roar In Numbers too Big To Ignore’)

✒︎ May finally is wising up… “My boys are hardheaded and stubborn but redeemable and worthy of love. Sometimes it’s tough love. Darryl needs a break.” May laughed. “Probably to his head, but maybe it’s better served to his ego. I’ve fired him and booted him from the ranch.”

✒︎ Have you ever heard of a dog having a shoe fetish? Well meet Ollie.

Will true love win?

Emmaline and Miles were in love when Miles chose to be honest. That decision made Emmaline break up with Miles. Miles left town. Now, 30 years later Miles is back and has a secret! The secret is his big lottery win.

Can Miles win back Emmeline's love without telling her he won the lottery? Is there any chance for the two of them?

A sweet story, with all sorts of family drama which answers the question "Can Miles win back Emmaline's love?" .

Emmaline and Miles were childhood sweethearts. Emmaline's family owned the local resort and Mile's family owned a successful ranch. They had plans to marry until the day that Miles found out his family was involved in some unscrupulous business and he reported it. Suddenly, Miles wasn't good enough for Emmaline and when Miles needed to leave town, Emmaline wouldn't go with him.

It has been a lot of years and Miles returns to town to manage the resort next door to Emmaline's. Emmaline has spent a lot of years refusing to speak about Miles and refusing to allow anyone to speak of him to her. But now he's back and there are a lot of feelings being dredged up between the two.

These two characters have a lot of baggage. Miles basically lost his entire family and the love if his life. Emmaline feels like she was abandoned and left behind. I had a hard time feeling a lot of sympathy for her though. She chose to stay. She was rather prickly about it. But this is a love story with a HEA, and I love that.

This was a sweet story to read. I love reading the author's books and I recommend this one.

Humor, pathos, and a second-chance romance between mature adults make this an enjoyable read. I found myself rooting for the main characters, as apart from the tragedy that tore them apart, there are still those with anger and resentment towards them, making it difficult to fully settle the dust between them. Doing the right thing takes courage and sometimes the resulting disruption in a family can be devastating. It also takes bravery to return to the war zone to right the wrongs of those caught in the crossfire. Three decades have passed and Emmaline and Miles are no longer young adults. They were old enough to get married when the fallout took place, but they quickly discover that when dealing with pain, no time has passed at all. In fact, neither of them has been able to move forward and they are both stuck in the past. Spending time together forces Em and Miles to see that the spark that drew them together is still there and it takes Miles' humor and patience to help Em work through the pain to rediscover the love they once had. Although part of a series, this romance is a standalone and comes to an excellent conclusion. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Kelly does it again! I love Willow Bay, mainly as it’s based in TEXAS! This is about Miles and Emmaline. Don’t ever discount KARMA because she comes back with a vengeance! Emmaline lied to her niece to bring her back home, but it was all good as Brie and Carter were able to make their dreams come true after so many years. Now Carter hired Miles to manage the Kessler under Emmaline’s guidance, and well, let’s just say she will make sure Miles remembers her well. There is a sad part of the story with Mile’s mother that touched my heart, but it opened to have the brothers finally knock each other out so that the anger between them would either die or lessen. Ollie, the dog, was the best treat this book could have had, along with Cricket! I can’t wait to read Charlotte’s story, but what about Darryl, Cormac, Tiffany (hopefully, she doesn’t stay with the ex), Margot, and Tilly?.

This second chance story warmed my heart and had me cheering for Miles and Emmaline. They have history but family got in the way of their happiness and now years later they have reconnected. It is a touching story with a delightful banter between Miles and Emmaline along with the fireflies that kept me glued to the pages!

I really enjoyed this story about a somewhat older couple reuniting after thirty years apart. Years ago, when Miles McClintock reported his father’s fraud, he lost everything, his home, his family and the love of his life, Emmaline Brown. Her parents no longer approved of Miles and Emmaline, so very young and needing her parents’ approval, refused to leave town with him. The Brown Resort, owned by her family was everything to her family and still is to her. Miles has returned to see his mother who is dying. He needs to make amends for causing the downfall of his family, but still knows that he did the right thing. He still loves Emmaline, but is there any chance for them? Working at The Kessler, the other main hotel in Willow Bay, gives him a chance to spend time with her. Can he show her that they deserve the love that they didn’t thirty years ago? Can Miles, along with his left shoe stealing dog, show her that she needs him more than she needs The Brown? A beautiful reunion of two lost souls who have more than earned their second chance at love. After 30 years, Miles returns to his small town and to his first love that he has not forgotten about. Emmaline has spent her life trying to prove to everyone that she is good enough to run their small town resort, a resort that cost her the love of her life and now he’s back in town, running the resort next to hers and she is not happy he’s back. Miles is determined to win back Em and she is determined to push him away….who will win.
A good clean read with a great Miles, who’s kind, patient, forgiving and has a heart of gold. Em, I was not too fond of but that could be I don’t understand “southern” ways, coming across as a gold digger, cold, heartless and selfish…the opposite of Miles. But it is a read of second chances and Miles along with his dog stole the show. Em did redeem herself and I liked that there was no over the top drama between them and I really enjoyed the ending and their dreams finally coming true.

The reason I gave this a four star instead of five is I
had a hard time getting a filling of what Emmaline was
really like and how she still blames Miles for what happened
thirty years ago but fate steps in and that’s were this book really
takes off.
Strong plot with depth and characters that have a second chance
off a happy ever after.

Another story with bite

Kelly writes stories with a message, always different but always makes you think. This one was
that it is never too late to make things right but get there before you are at deaths door. Fortunately our hero and heroine have still got enough life in them to make things better. You will need to read the book to find out.

Here With You by Kelly Collins is the second book in the Willow Bay series. In this book we meet Emmaline Brown again. I didn't really like her in the last book. Thirty years ago Emmaline and Miles McClintock were madly in love with each other, but Emmaline listened to her family and they didn't think Miles was good enough because of his family issues. Fast forward - Miles returns back to his home town when his mother gets sick. They run into each other and a second chance romance starts. I'm not sure if I liked Emmaline by the end of the book or not. I did like Miles. Looking forward to seeing more of Willow Bay.

This was a cute second chance romance. I enjoyed reading about Miles and Em. At first I couldn’t get into the book but once I got in further I was hooked. Two feuding families keep the two apart for three decades. When Miles comes back to into town, he gets the feistiness of Em. I loved the small town feel with some really great friends. I loved Ollie, he added a nice touch to the story! Can’t wait to read the next story!

Here With You

What a beautiful second chance story. These two ended up going separate ways years ago, due to a decision Miles made which cost him his family and the love of his life. Consequently years later he is back, many things have changed, can a past be righted? Two people admit their feelings? Beautifully written.❤️

This was a fun, second chance story that I enjoyed reading.  I liked that the characters were older and had never married, although they had been engaged.  It was also a story of family, obligations, and doing what is right no matter the consequences.  Emmaline's friends, known as the Fireflies, were an interesting group of fun characters.  I liked Miles and his dog that liked to steal shoes.  There were happy times, sad times, secrets, and love in this book.  I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.

Emmaline and Miles were young and in love and ready to spend their lives together. Miles discovered a family secret and when he revealed it, his family fell apart and wanted nothing to do with him. Em left him as well after some duress from her father. Fast forward 30 years and Miles returns to Willow Bay with the hope that Em has forgiven him and maybe even accept him back into her life.
As soon as she sees him all the feelings of "hatred" return and she goes out of her way to make things difficult for him. It seems his only friend is his loyal dog Ollie who has a fetish for left shoes.
Emmaline can't keep her real feelings under wraps, will she really forgive him or just turn her back on him again.
This is a fun story with lots of great characters, can't wait to read the next one.

This is a second chance romance after thirty years. It was so sad what had broken the two up in the first place. Emmaline and Miles had been so in love, but family can step in and mess everything up. Since Emmaline had always felt second best to her sister, and her father was always putting her down she poured her life into the Brown resort. Miles is back in town as he was asked to manage the resort next door for a few weeks which put him in close contact with Emmaline. I loved how patient and caring Mikes was. He had a secret he didn’t let anyone know because he wanted Emmaline back because she loved him and for no other reason. There were some ups and downs the two had to go through, but I was glad to see their love won out. This is a good book that I encourage you to read. I was given a copy and voluntarily wrote a review.

Another awesome book by the talented Kelly Collins. Emmaline and Miles were young lovers who were sadly torn apart. Now, thirty years later, they get a second chance. They never stopped loving each other but Emmaline is reluctant to admit her feelings. Miles is determined to win her back. It was delightful watching these two find their way to an HEA. I urge you to read the first book in the series, Second Time Around, as well as Here With You.

Second chance romance. Em and Miles were engaged to get married but it never happened because of what both their fathers did. Thirty years later they get a second chance at a happy ending. Loved reading their second journey to finding it. Also love the small town and how everyone knows everything about everyone and usually help each other out.

Emma line and Miles were in love. He caught his father in a lie and their relationship didn’t survive. Fast forward 30 years and Miles returns to Willow Bay. Can they repair the damage from their past and rekindle an old love?

Ms Collins again weaves a tale of young love that can’t overcome family truths and how adults many years later cope with the truth and how that truth changes their lives. Its always worth the read to keep up with old friends and discover new ones.

Miles and ‘Em have a tragic history. Because of their parents, they never got to live their dreams. Miles because his father kicked him out of the family when he announced his cheating of his fellow ranchers and Em when her father made her choose the resort or the poor boy. She chose her heritage and lost out on years of love from the man she wanted more than anything.
So many wasted years until their second chance brings them to work through their history and make it better.

I was not sure I was going to like this book because Em was so unpleasant. I should have had more faith in Kelly Collins, lol.

After either getting used to or getting over Em's abrasive personality, the story started to fall into place. I also started to get a glimpse of Em's softer side. Her friendship with Tilly and her feelings toward May seemed to bring it out. But it was definitely difficult to like her character through a good deal of the book.

Miles was pretty consistent in his behavior, supportive of Tilly no matter how much she acted out. It was interesting that 2 people were so angry at Miles, but took no responsibility for their own behavior.

I liked that Miles and Em were a more mature couple, even when I wondered about Em's age based on behavior.

Miles brother was another unpleasant character. I though Miles was much more generous than I probably would have been. Darryl couldn't even manage to behave decently for his mother. I did like Cormac, and wonder if he will eventually get his own story.

Current and past issues were finally put to rest and everyone was able to move on to their own HEA. I did enjoy this book. I have to say, that for me, it was a more difficult book to get through than normal when I read Kelly Collins.
