Rate this book
A quick-witted thief aspires for fame and fortune...if he can survive the schemes of the ruling class.

After foiling an assassination attempt, Jerrell conducts a masterful piece of sleuthing to identify and capture the culprit. His actions earn him an office at the vaunted Marquithe Bureau of Trading, where he can promote his services to Farrowen's aristocracy. Wealth and fame await him.

His first client offers a vast sum for the retrieval of an item of power. Unfortunately, the item is already the prize of a mighty and influential wizard. Unfazed by such a challenge, Jerrell embarks for Lionne with an outlandish scheme in mind.

If only he grasped the gravity of his quest.

This fast-paced fantasy heist series is perfect for fans of Nate Temple, Locke Lamora, or Harry Dresden.

I love fantasy, adventure, and magic. More than that, I adore my readers.

My books are written to entertain -- fantasy adventures filled with compelling characters, spectacular magic, thrilling action, constant intrigue, and a sense of discovery. I equate them to the "Marvel Movie" version of fiction, intended to be a fun escape.

I would love to have you join me and my quirky characters for one outrageous adventure after another. With over a million published words, my author journey has just begun.

Best wishes,
Jeff

Another great page turner!

I love following the young Jerrell Landish as he builds his reputation as the greatest thief in the land! This might seem a bit outlandish but not to him! This time he foils an assassination attempt. Then takes a job to find an item of power. However, this item is in the possession of a powerful wizard. Jerrell thrives on living on the edge no matter how dangerous it can be. But did he overreach a bit on this job? Never fear, Jerrell always has a plan. I love this character. Jerrell is charismatic, irresistible, charming, courageous and has a wicked sense of humor. So, if you are looking for fast paced heart stopping action, danger, intrigue, secrets, power with twists and turns then this is it! This book is captivating and cleverly written with unforgettable characters and a thrilling plot! The chapters flew by and I was totally entertained.....

Jerrell Landish and his exploits get more outlandish with each book, he is so self confident and his audacity knows no bounds, I must admit I have a real soft sport for this thief, and he must be one of my very favorite characters. In this book he has arrived in Marquithe and as usual he is looking for opportunities to line his pockets and gain a foothold in the city. He sees one in Sorenna Souton a rich woman he saves from some assassins who had waylaid her. He offers to protect her and then goes on to discover who was behind the assassins. This leads him into getting the opportunity he needed to enter into the guild of trade and from there he gets hired to face powerful wizards who are in the way of those hiring him. He travels to a few other cities in order to get his jobs done and as usual is arrogant in his approach knowing there are none to best him. I like his impudent nature and the way he tackles every job with a sardonic sense of humor, but always aiming to give his best as he has pride in what he does, even if this is just thievery. Whenever I am reading about this rogues exploits I find I do not wish the book to end, as I enjoy his adventures too much. I look forward to his next book of exploits so keep them coming Mr. Kohanek!

- in which Jerrell saves a woman’s life and convinces her to hire him as her bodyguard/detective, gets his first office at the Marquithe Bureau of Trading, wears a wig and pair of grapefruit to a party to seduce a wizard (yes, this is the long-awaited story that Jerrell loves so much to tell), and searches for a missing child.
- tie-ins to other wizardoms: Jerrell first encounters the lonely but lovely Portia Forca; Ydith Gurgan is away at University, Jerrell meets her father and brother.

Oh the crazy situations Landish is able to get himself into and then somehow fight, scheme, and sometimes even charm his way out of! I just can’t help but love him in all his arrogant, snarky, but completely hilarious and resourceful nature.

Trickster for Hire picks up after Landish has spent a season of frustrating months trying to legitimize his talents and obtain a position at the Marquithe Bureau of Trading to no avail. However, a thwarted assassination attempt leads him to his desired position: Trickster for Hire.

This new position at the Bureau leads him on his first official job to retrieve an item of power. And that job soon leads him on several adventures including on the trail of a hidden vampire, the search for a kidnapped 13 year old, and the apprehension of the teenager’s kidnappers. Along the way, Jerrell creates several resourceful escapes, experiences situation after situation where he must outwit and out fight his opponents, and we, as readers, get several wonderful glimpses of the Jace that we all know and LOVE from The Fate and the Fall of the Wizardoms series.

This novel was one twist and turn after another and I honestly didn’t see where the story was leading me. Trickster for Hire’s conflicts where a bit more serious in nature compared to those in Thief for Hire, but I however found the shift in gears both surprising and refreshing. However, DO NOT FEAR, there is still a plethora of Jerrell and his absolutely roguish behavior to satisfy even the greatest Jerrell fan!

I absolutely and completely enjoyed the path Kohanek lead us down in this slightly more intense but still hilarious and utterly entertaining chapter in the life of Jerrell Landish! And I cannot wait to see what craziness Jerrell finds and conquers next in the conclusion to his Outrageous Exploits!

Jerrell seems to barrel head first into danger and then try get out of perilous situations. It's always fun reading how he actually goes about it, one gets his thought process so succinctly, so well are his shenanigans described. Maybe not always shenanigans but I know I'm in for a blast, whatever Jerrell is doing or whatever is happening around him and to him. I really enjoy the accuracy of the fight scenes, very vivid and credible. And let's face it, Jerrell can't resist women, whether to save them or love them, you know what I mean... He's always looking to score a quick buck, always opportunistic, always scheming and always lands himself in hotter water. There's nothing Jerrell loves more than to solve a mystery. He truly is outlandish! Love it! Another thing I absolutely love, is how most people underestimate Jerrell, tending to dismiss him on his slighter physique as well as his intelligence, usually to their detriment. Well he quickly shows them! Having thwarted an assassin attempt and saving the damsel, yep, Jerrell excels at that, it escales into a true Jerrell adventure, outwitting bandits, getting captured, (which happens often) constantly being at the mercy of one or another wizard! And his charm, did I mention just how charming he is? He uses all his skills to maximum potency, he's like a chameleon, becoming who he must be whenever he needs to, the scenes where he dupes the high wizard of Marquithe are hilarious. Jeff really excels at presenting all the components, from pacing, world building and storytelling in a manner that one falls in love with the characters and make it impossible to put down until the book is finished. Only problem is, you, like me, will be wanting more!

Trickster for Hire

The fun and outrageousness of Jerrell's adventures continues. It is good to see that he has a code that he follows that sets him apart from other thieves.

Learn more about Jerrell

You win some and you loose some. Jerrell manages to win a few but unfortunately looses a big one but redeems himself in the end.

It was such fun to spend time with Jerrell again!
Jerrell continues to look for work and purpose. He starts this book by saving a woman from assassins, earning her trust and investigating who is trying to kill her. The adventures ramp up in the second of the series, but Jerrell is the same clever, resourceful, arrogant con man and thief. I enjoy seeing how he manages to get out of the various predicaments he finds himself in.
All in all, this is just a really fun book!
