Once upon a time, Harper Baylor fell in love and was certain she’d found her forever. She gave a man her heart, only for him to break it into a million pieces. It took some time to put it back together, but she was still hesitant to love again.
One drunken night ruined the life Jakhi Malone had planned with his high school sweetheart. He tried to forget the woman who still had a hold on his heart, to no avail. After years of meaningless connections with women, he decided it was time for him to win back the heart of his first and only love.
For a decade, Harper pretended as if Jakhi never existed. During that same span of time, Jakhi couldn’t get her off his mind. When they reunite, will Harper be willing to give Jakhi another chance? Or will her fear of being hurt again ruin their chance at forever?
Welcome to Kay Shanee's Reading Korner Kay is forty something wife and mother, born and raised in the Midwest. During the day, she is a high school teacher. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Her favorite pastime is reading and writing romance novels about the dopeness of BLACK LOVE.
While I was a huge fan of Jakhi, I was not a fan of his actions. How do you write a letter of that magnitude, cut off all communication, and not give your girlfriend the opportunity for closure from a break-up she didn’t ask for?!!! Then, when the truth is revealed, you choose to stay away for eight years as some form of self-punishment?!!! Jakhi was a good guy but, his decision making skills were severely lacking. On top of all of that, he was completely clueless and naïve when it came to Talia. How on earth did he not know this chic was in love with him?!!! Like, dude, read the damn room! I really wanted to feel sorry for Talia but, sis set her own self up. She knew from the very beginning who Jakhi’s heart belonged to and it most definitely was not her nor would it ever be her. I gave Harper major cool points because, she had way more tolerance for Jakhi’s lack of common sense than I would have. How you just gon’ pop up trying to win her back with a cargo full of drama and half truths?!!! When all the tea was spilled about him and Talia, she should’ve gone right upside his head and left his azz in Cali. But, the heart wants what the heart wants and Harper wanted Jakhi. Listen, there’s no question that Jakhi loved him some Harper but some of the choices he made had me and the rest of the readers givin’ him some serious side eye. 😒😒😒 He was really out here trying to be the hero and the villain of this story. But, even with all the BS, you still want to root for him and Harper to come out on the other side and find their HEA. They more than deserved it. I really enjoyed This Time It's Forever. It was messy, full drama, and I was all the way here for it. At times Jakhi worked my last nerve but, you gotta appreciate his tenacity to get his girl back. Even if he did go about it the wrong way. Before I go, I want to drop a bug in the author’s ear. Hear me out. Amir and Letitia. I’ma just sit that right here.
I absolutely love a good second chance romance….it took me a minute to forgive Jakhi too, but the connection between these two was palpable. Talia & Bria both got on my nerves and it took Jakhi too long to get these two under control…but, he finally did….Which was the catalyst to solidify his relationship with Harper. Good Story…..
Mrs. Kay Shanee, you may not deliver a new release each month however when you do you always bring it. I am so glad Harper decided to tell her story. She deserved happiness, trust, and loyalty. She gets to bask in bliss with her forever just like her sister Harlowe. Harper can expand and have her own little family. Now Jakhi I have to admit I am still side-eyeing. How do you befriend and become the godfather of the child of the woman you cheated on your forever with? Jakhi was a true friend and quite blind to Talia's feelings for him. His love ran deeper than the longest tunnel for Harper though. He kept her close to his heart all the years they were apart. His actions most definitely spoke louder than those letters he wrote Harper. Jakhi and Harper were meant for each other. They made it back to each other through all the turmoil, drama, and distance.
This is another Kay Shanee classic, anytime her pen hits the paper it's a masterpiece. Mrs. Shanee, I loved the two epilogues. I like to read the thoughts of both main characters and where they are at by the end of the story. It also gives the book a more realistic aura. And I like the direction Harlowe and Letitia's relationship is going. Harlowe and Letitia seem to be finally closing the gap in their sisterhood. I know it was a hard pill for Harlowe to swallow however she has come around tremendously. I am anticipating what you will release next meanwhile I recommend this book. Of course, this is the one and only Kay Shanee so grab this book today.
I was drawn in from the very first page and was 100% invested in all things Jakhi and Harper. These two started out as high school sweethearts and after one drunken night, heartbreak reared it’s ugly head. To add insult to injury, my man Jakhi broke things off in a letter…..say it with me C O W A R D!! Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not sure we can expect much from a nineteen year old boy but he at least owed Harper a conversation. Fast forward 10 years later and Jakhi and Harper are reunited. Harper thought the years spent mending her broken heart were successful but when she sees her first, her only love again, all her work goes right out of the window.
She is doing everything to forget him while Jakhi is ready to get his girl back. There’s just one problem… a HUGE problem if you ask me. This man is bffs with the woman that played a crucial part of the demise of their relationship.
Jakhi was the true definition of men being naive to the signals women put out. How did everyone except you see that this woman wanted you. I don’t even feel bad for Talia because as a woman you should know it don’t take a man 10 years to decide that he wants you. The whole time she was waiting on him, he was preparing for his true love Harpers return to his life and I mean PREPARING! Whew 🥵
Jakhi definitely meant well in hindsight in how he was there for Talia and Bria. He was trying to be a good friend and was just a genuinely good dude. I understood why he did what he did most of the time but he definitely should have listened to his brother on several occasions.
Harper girl!!! Hats off to you because that trip to Cali would have ended way worse than some changed seats on an airplane😩😩. I’m glad Jakhi came to his senses because there was no doubt the love was there and that it was pure! There just simply wasn’t a place in his life for Talia; at least not in the way he assumed it would be…… I really can’t get over the fact that this man really thought they could be friends….. baffled 😕🥴🤧
And then the story pulled me into the vortex and quickly hooked me with this theme. I won’t give too much away, but! Jakhi was not very smart for a man of his caliber. How did he think he could remain friends with the lady he cheated on and broke his girl's heart with? I did not believe parts of the story would take the path it took, nor did I expect Harper to be open to reconciling with Jakhi. I think you will like this second chance romance. But really, Harper gave Jakhi about six chances in this tale. I was so happy when Jakhi got his act togther and got his girl in the end. A good read. 4.75 stars.
Ok...this story wasn't bad but it did reinforce why second chance romance is a trope I don't love. It's either hit or miss depending on the reason it didn't work out for the couple the first time around and how the author executes it in the story. I feel that this book would've been much better if we got to see Jakhi and Harper take it slow. The sex was introduced way to quickly and easily for the issues they had to face. He cheated on her after a drunken mistake when he was 19 and she was 18. She carried emotional scars over that over the course of the 10 years they were apart. She shouldn't have jumped him so quickly after he apologized and explained what happened. Like if this is a second chance romance and they're older now then it should be portrayed that way. I felt that there were was still immaturity from both of them and they're almost 30. Jakhi omitting the truth about why they were going to L.A. was dumb as hell. He knows he messed up with her in the past. If this is the woman you love so much why not tell her upfront. No she wouldn't have been happy but at least she wouldn't be caught off guard. For a grown ass man he still acted like a kid at times. Harper letting her jealousy of Talia get in the way was annoying as hell as well. If you're going to give this man and this relationship another go then quit obsessing over the past. The whole Talia drama was just irrelevant in my opinion.Yes, she was the one he had the drunken mistake with but all the extraness that came with her being in the story in the present was unnecessary. It took up to much focus. This book should've focused more on Jakhi and Harper rebuilding and reconnecting after 10 years apart. Rediscovering each other as full adults. They should've taken it slow instead of jumping into it full throttle knowing there's baggage that hasn't been put away fully yet. The outside drama I didn't enjoy and could've did without. This book was ok. I did love how Jakhi's family were real ones and didn't coddle him. They let him know he messed up and if he wants Harper back, show her that youve changed and grown. If the author would've let their relationship develop slowly and organically. Letting them take their time to get to really get to know each other again and finally put the past to bed for once and all instead of rushing them into a sexual connection wayy to soon. Especially when all the answers to questions Harper had hadn't been addressed yet. I would've loved this book. 3/5 for me.

I needed a minute to write this review because Jakhi had me messed up!!!
I love a MLC who knows what he wants and goes after it but this negro was naive with a capital NA!!! I had to woosah through his cluelessness so many times. When you cussin' at a fictional character you know the book is good! Harper was fun and a little annoying as well. 🤨🤨🤨
Second Chance Love is one of my least favourite tropes (because forgiveness is not my strong suit...) so the minute I felt myself getting into this book I knew it was gonna be 5⭐️s.
@authorkayshanee continues to be one of my top 5 NTMAs and hasn't let me down!
This Time It’s Forever had me in my feels, deeply. One part of me loved everything about Jakhi but the other wanted to knock some sense into him. He almost lost my girl, Peach, by excluding important facts..😬I just loved his persistence and his actions were loud and clear that he wasn’t playing around. I loved to see it! Harper had every reason to be hesitant. She had to protect her heart and history showed that Jakhi had to be handled with a long spoon. I liked the flow of this story, it moves quickly but I felt like I had closure at the end. Jakhi handled his issues, proved to Harper that he wasn’t playing with her heart, and they got their HEA! It was really sweet. The main characters and co-characters were likable and the sweet lovings were steamy. Good Read!
This is probably one of the few books where I was not a fan of the male lead. While he may exude Alpha BDE energy Jahki's communication skills were lacking. Why would you write a letter to your girlfriend about your infidelity and possible impregnation of someone and then block your girl not affording her the chance to talk it out to get closure? Then he pops up ten years later with the intent to get the "love of his life" back while still hoarding secrets. I also thought Harper was too forgiving because he needed to sweat it out longer. While an HEA was reached I still think Jahki needs a lesson in situational awareness because he had no clue whatsoever.
That darn Jahki was a mess!! But he was so in love with Harper he couldn't see the haters!! I don't care I didn't like that lil girl lol but this was a sexy second chance at love that came back stronger.
Listen, I was on the fence with this book. I read a lot of sports romance and the story line started off typical to me. So, it took me a minute to get bought into the story.
Jahki....I mean I just didn't like him at all. Like common sense just wasn't common. I get he was young, but his decision to befriend this girl after she flexed in front of his woman made no sense to me. Then the way he handled the blow up was childish and insensitive. Please explain to me in what world would refusing to communicate over your fuc$ up would be a good idea?? Then to add insult to injury keep a relationship with said girl, but not your woman....for YEARS?! What you talking about Willis??? I didn't really understand him at all. His actions after they decided to take a second chance were still childish, selfish, and low key manipulative. Jahki may have had good intentions, but his delivery sucked. Harper was head over heels in love with Jahki. They were high school sweethearts and when he broke it off after his first year of college without an in person conversation and minimal details she was left heart broken. In current state she had yet to recover. When seeing Jahki again unexpectedly after a decade all of those old feelings returned. They were still very much in love. I tried to root for them, but Jahki was problematic and disingenuous. I felt like the money, house, and gifts were just distractions from his red flags.
This whole situation with Talia. Smh she was hella annoying. Although, Jahki was playing dumb she absolutely knew what it was. She just continued to hope for more. Then the connection he fostered with her daughter Bria definitely complicated things. Stronger boundaries for their friendship should've been established. Even though he kept Talia at arms length, his actions and gestures towards her definitely were confusing for both Talia and Bria. Again Jahki just gave off a manipulative air. I'm still side eyeing him.
Despite some spelling errors I felt the book was well written and the characters were strong. 3.75 stars.
I wasn't so sure what Jahki was doing with this whole "friendship" between he and Talia, yet I surmised it to him really having a great, kind heart and being beyond blind to the fact that she, as well as her daughter, wanted so much more with him. I wanted to feel bad or even empathetic to Talia, yet I couldn't. She knew what Harper meant to Jahki and to pine after this man the way she did, without fully explaining her feelings, was a bit childish to me.
I like that Harper held her ground while Jahki was away after he crushed her heart. He handled that so poorly, yet he was young, dumb and afraid. She did let him slip back in a little too easily, yet good head will do that to ya 😏. Either way, I felt all her feelings were valid and warranted. She could've handled them leaving Phoenix better, yet I understood that too.
I was hoping to get more closure on the whole Elias situation, yet I guess he wasn't important 🤷🏾♀️.
I loved all the families and friends. The close knit bond in this book was very heart warming.
I'm assuming that Harper was mentioned in a previous book by this author. Since I'm not familiar with her catalog, I guess I need to do some digging.
This was a great read and I look forward to more from this group and this author. Highly recommend
Whew...... I am frustrated, and have a headache from hell! I wanted to feel bad for you Jakhi, and give you some grace. But, you continued to f up, over and over and over again! 😠 Did your brain short circuit from all them concussions or something?? Ughhhh.... there is no way that you couldn't have seen all the writing on the wall with Talia, and thought that a friendship with her was a good move! 🤬🤯 I'm so angry at Jakhi like I know this dude, and I want to bust him in his damn head! 😡 Anywho, Miss Harper! I could understand her anger and even the hesitancy when Jakhi reappeared in her life. But, girl I'm also giving you the 👀 for accepting all that mess! Maybe I just got a cold heart and all that, but ain't no way would I let any of that ride! Harper went through a lot with this man, and you knew her love was deep, but damn! Jakhi would do some real redeeming things that have you smiling, then go do some more dumb ish that put him back on the hit list! 😂 I did enjoy how they were able to fight for their love, and come out on the other side, but man was that ish messy! Good job! 👍👍👍
I’m sorry but i just couldn’t fall in love with the male character. He had way too many secrets and hidden truths. And i can’t respect anyone who takes my power of choice away (i.e letting me make a decision based on the whole truth) that whole trip to LA? I would’ve been done for the final time lol.
How you want me to be comfortable with your relationship with Talia yet every time i turn around your doing something that causes me (and everyone else) to question the nature of y’all’s relationship..
Overall the story did read well i just don’t think we got too many positive moments of the couple. It felt like the whole book was them trying to work through their relationship and then boom epilogue. Because i doubt him buying her the house fixes things in the relationship especially when the root of their problems is honesty and lack of boundaries.
With that being said i would like to see his older brother settle down
As usual Ms Kay did her thing, this is a very great story. From the first page to the end, it was exciting and I had to keep reading till I finished the story.
There was a few times I want to fight Jahki. Sir, why would you become friends with that girl? Men are so clueless sometimes because he should have saw the signs, like everyone else did. I loved how he did what needed to be done to make sure Harper gave him a chance. Well, except for withholding a few things. I would recommend this book.
This author is new to me and this is the second book that I have read. It breaks my heart to say I could not finish this story. I am a lover of love and I love a good second chance story but Jakhi...I just couldn't with him. There was nothing endearing about him and from the third chapter Harper deserved better.
By 23% I figured out the twist, but again Jakhi is not a hero I cared for and I have fallen in love with serial cheaters that were redeemed. Jakhi didn't deserve forgiveness he was just selfish.
Ok, this was a great story and well written! No complaints about the writing or the author! However, I side eyed Jakai throughout this book because there’s no way a man doesn’t know when a woman is in love with him. Also, how was he doing all that preparing for Harper but became best friends years after cheating on Harper in the beginning with the woman he ruined him and Harper’s relationship over. Then went on the become the godfather of the child after finding out it’s not his. Waited 10 years to approach Harper and still couldn’t be honest with her about Talia. Like, in what world does a man prepare to get back with the one he cheated on and actually believes she’ll be ok with him having a close friendship with the woman who was apart of the problem? The second time Talia got pregnant took the cake for me. Like yall too old for this. How you find yourself in this same situation all over again. Then got mad about Harper eavesdropping! Then Harper just let so much stuff he did happen without putting up much of a fuss except for when she caught that flight home. Being in love with him and the sex truly clouded her judgement! I could say so much more about them both but I’ll stop here. Again, this book kept me interested and brought out all the feels. So it did what it was supposed to do. Definitely going to read more by Kay!
I’ve never read a clueless man like Jakhi and you want to root for him, but he hid very important information and did this asinine thing he did twice. This is what I expected since this author be dropping some surprises in most of her books! Like his dad said he got dropped on his head because he keeps 🤬 up IJS. I just felt this Talia situation felt incomplete and I’ve no sympathy for her also.
Harper gave in too easy IMHO to Jakhi! Now his intentions were not to go their quickly, but typical men if she’s going there he would not say no! Harper took this breakup hard and never moved on even though she does have “friends with benefits” gigs, she was just living in limbo.
This Talia situation did not sit well with me and it felt incomplete like something else will pop off. Again Jakhi is one dumb individual and omitted a lot of pertinent information and did it knowingly, and to me he cannot be trusted. These lies took away from his character and even all the things he put in place for Harper, he just came across gullible, naive and just plain dumb!
There were at least two scenes where the author called Harlowe by her sister’s name (Harper).
Second chance romance is my absolute favorite trope so it’s no surprise I loved this! While I have a very slight gripe with how easy Harper took Jakhi back, this was my first book by Kay Shanee and I loved the writing!
The reunion between Harper and Jakhi felt slightly too easy for me but that’s just personal preference. I get his explanation, understand they never stopped loving each other but after what he did.. the way he did it.. and a decade?!?! He needed to beg more for me or she needed to go upside his head one good time! Again just personal preference though. That being said, I loved how he planned ahead. Jakhi was working behind the scenes, for years, to try and right his wrongs whether Harper took him back or not. I can respect and appreciate that. His relationship with Talia was some foolishness. I would have dragged her in that house and bust the windows out that Jeep but props to Harper for being all evolved and adult like lol.
This was my first Kay Shanee novel and I really enjoyed the writing. The story was well rounded, main characters fully developed and supporting characters developed just the right amount! Apparently I downloaded a bunch of her books and can’t wait to get into them.
First off let me say that the airport scene was hilarious. I almost laughed out loud where I was, then I remembered I was at work lol. Secondly can we get a story on Amir because he was too funny the way he joked with Khi and his stupidity lol. This was a really good read and I am glad we got a chance to read Harper's story. She had been hurt from love and closed herself off. Khi was reckless in the past but made up for it later on. He had me pissed when he flew her out to the party, neglecting to inform Harper of the reason they were there. He lucky she didn't kill his ass lol. I loved their love. Eli became a pain and I am glad we didn't hear more from him anymore. I was glad to see Harlowe and Letitiia in a better place as well. Have you thought about doing a story for her, moving on officially from Quinn to find her own happiness? Also what about Quinn's brother, we need a story on him too lol. Thanks again for a great read Ms. Kay Shanee
First of all, this book cover is absolutely gorgeous! Jakhi is proof that sometimes good intentions have disastrous effects and that men don’t always think things through. His heart was in the right place where Talia was concerned, but man! People really have a way of seeing what they want to see…
Once Jakhi got his second chance, he almost fumbled it completely. Kudos to the author for crafting such a beautiful, full circle moment and giving these childhood sweethearts a real chance at love. Harper is better than me because the birthday soiree would have ended before it began. I love and can relate to Harper’s dedication to her students—and seeing the entire child; not just what is there on the surface. Tobias is a good example of what happens when you don’t see/appreciate what's in front of you until someone else shows interest.
Kay Shanee did it again! I will admit I usually don't fool with a cheating trope, but this was done differently and off page, so I rocked with it. Jakhi was young and dumb and lost his love. Harper was young and in love and got her heart broken. Mow years have pasted on and are actively seeking the other, while the other is avoiding it all. This story is about a man on mission to win his woman back. And let me tell you the way this man was coming behind her was everything. Jakhi put in work, and I ate it up. I'm low-key toxic because I love a groveling get-back scene, and I got several. Also, the way this man was breaking her back at every chance... had me like sis, maybe we should forgive him!
Now this was a good ass book! Honestly, better than Harlow and Quinn’s story imo. Now, let me just say that while Jakhi was my boy, he did hella things that pissed me off! Just why would you go and be friends with the person that cost you your relationship and then go back years later and try having a romantic relationship with her. Then on top of that, you want the woman you’re trying to win back to be cool with it. SMH! Bria did piss me off but Talia should’ve also put her in her place as a child. I didn’t necessarily despise Talia b/c I could see where she was coming from. All in all let’s just say that some men are just really dumb! lol but in the end, I’m glad all things worked out. Great read!

Harper and Jahki...I went back and forth about rating this book because Jahki could not be so oblivious to Talia's feelings. How you going to get the love of your life back, when you're now supposedly best friends with the woman you cheated with which ended your relationship with Harper in the first place. How can someone move smart and dumb at the same time? Elias proved to be a butt, and I loved how Harper's family made her realize that although she was heartbroken by what Jahki did, she never stopped loving him, if she had it wouldn't have been so easy to fall back into a routine with him. All in all, it was a good, funny read...especially when Amir and Pops had dinner with Jahki! I felt like the end was kind of rushed, but I would recommend it.
This was a love story? My god. You are not convincing me that Jakhi is a good man. He was entitled, possessive, & inconsiderate. Forgiving him for cheating while a teenager didn’t bother me, it was all the baggage he had. They also used sex to communicate their issues. Harper girl stand up!
I don’t like how both families knew Jakhi was wrong but still wanted Harper to lower her standards for him. That man forced that relationship on Harper. If the roles were reversed Jakhi would’ve moved on quick.
Harper’s not escaping accountability either but we didn’t get a chance to get to know her bc it was focused on Jakhi winning her back.
Jakhi was just full of a bunch of naive scenarios. To keep Talia around even after the 1st hoax was building emotional failure. To half ass tell Harper the truth was gonna get him dealt with. Harper had all rights to have as many reservations as she did especially when she never got closer. Elias sour scary ass would've been on the news at 9pm. He was a bitter, spoiled one and he would've been dealt with. Thank goodness Jakhi got the advice he needed to not only secure his future but be successful with his future....
NO! All of the side characters and Jakhi are gaslighting Harper. Why are all of this side characters kept on siding with his cheating and lying ass? I can't. This book made me upset all throughout. Who thinks that being friends with the person you cheated with is a right thing? Also, Jakhi not using protection and getting angry at Harper for protecting her body is so fucking frustrating to read! Two things I learned in this one is that don't mess with your co-workers and don't give second chances. Harper deserved better.
Harper and Jahki both TAPPED on my one good last nerve…..Harper let him slide on to many to many things with Tali and Jahki did to much to keep Talia around omitting some truths is still a lie and once you found out Bria wasn’t his why didn’t he go back to Harper but history repeats itself it’s like and theirs still no baby all the late nite calls, just letting her have a key to come and go at will I think not look god daughter or not she needed to get popped but at all a good friend ead
I did not like much about this book as in my opinion it was not realistic. I don’t know any woman who would have been okay with the scenario that was painted in this book. The amount of disrespect that was geared towards the FMC was confusing and the fact that she allowed the disrespect was even more confusing. The Talia story line went too far as well as the truck incident, etc. This had the potential to be a beautiful love story but it missed the mark.
