And when mythical creatures and slave traders are thrown into the mix, Art’s going to have to pull out all the stops if he wants to stand his ground!

It's been so long since I read book 1 that I barely remember that I had, until I saw this volume (and some subsequent volumes) in the store. There's just enough semi-expository dialogue that I can piece together a vague memory of book 1, though probably not enough to form a solid review after the fact (probably I read before signing up with Goodreads just a little over a year ago).
It's a decent enough story, though clearly not compelling enough that I raced out to get the next books. To be fair, at the time I had planned to get the books exclusively through Target since they're slightly cheaper there, but after a certain point, they stopped carrying most non-English graphic novels at ALL. :(
It's also somewhat familiar; I wonder if I also read this volume but forgot, since I didn't hang onto it—free library donation habit lets me guiltlessly get new books without feeling I HAVE to keep them afterwards! I don't as such regret getting it "again" if that's the case, though the part of me that loves efficiency is nagging me for being lax about my recordkeeping. (Then again, that's also why I finally started on Goodreads, both to opinionate at whoever reads this and to keep definite track of what I've read!)
The art is serviceable: The characters are well-drawn, but backgrounds tend to be as-needed. To be fair, most of this volume takes place in a cave, but the exterior shots often get by with extreme close-ups and action lines covering up the fact that there otherwise isn't a background. I don't as such hate it, but given the variety of material I read, it's impossible to overlook the difference in artistic treatment for each series.
Recommended for high fantasy fans, particularly fans of "isekai" stories, particularly fans of the reincarnated main character being a superpoweredchildprodigy.
Overall I think the art is doing a good job of reminding us that he is still only 4 years old although at times I feel like they (him and the elf girl) do come off more like elementary school kids so notices sure why they didn’t give him a few more years at home learning concepts and then having an 7-8 year old to venture with his parents to get a mentor as it would have maybe more sense for the elf girl to have the conversation they have at that age as I don’t know if a “normal” 5 year old would have talked with him this way. This is a common issue I have when I read stories with children now that I am a parent, when I was younger and childless I find the give or take of 3-4 years of child development wasn’t noticeable and seemed fine. Now it’s always me going “a 5 year old would do that” or a “10 year would have grown out of that”
Copy and paste below from the previous volume as it still is relevant
So I started this series online as I don’t have patience to wait for the weekly episode update of the anime now that it’s streaming for the spring season.
It reminds me of the Japanese isekai anime/light novel series Mushoko Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation where the reincarnation happens at birth and they basically are born with the consciousness of the past life not just memories of the past or getting the memories in life like at puberty or when they turn into an adult. Not like transmigration “reincarnation” isekais where they take over the body of someone that’s died and they may or may not have the memories of the previous person.
One of the main differences, for the better in my opinion, is that the MC isn’t a pervert. In Mushoko Tensei he was a 30 something incel basically so notices his mom’s breasts when he’s a baby and obsesses later for an entire arc over not being able to get it up after losing his virginity at around 14 and then being left like a one night stand.
I really appreciate that the MC, Arthur, in this series is NOT obsessed with sex or a pervert. Rather then reincarnating from modern day korea he was a King in another world and while seems to have been a cold tyrant as he rose to power he’s quite rational and calm in his new life, and him learning what it means to have family ties and to care about people we see a lot of emotional growth.
We get funny comedic breaks as he struggles with adjusting to a baby body and his lack of control over it. Like being embarrassed that he soils his diaper. Over all I really enjoy this arc as he learns the magic structure of this world and apply his knowledge and skills from his past life to adapt to this world.
When the bandit attack leads to Art getting separated from his parents, he has no idea how he'll survive. But a mysterious voice calls out to him--and calls him into an encounter that will change his life forever.
Once again, this is too short, but I do appreciate how it's framed: beginning with the bandits, and ending with Art's encounter with the slavers. Two similar, yet very different encounters.
And in between them is Sylvia. I love how she's initially presented, and how Art has to really work to get over his fear of her. And then he gets to know who she is on the inside, and can appreciate her for her care and kindness.
There are hints of greater mysteries, but Art is both too young and too weak to find himself more than glancing at the tips of them.
As always, the art is amazing. The expressions, the backgrounds, and the action is all carefully drawn.
Overall, it's a great continuation of the story. Highly Recommended.
Arthur's caravan has been ambushed by bandits, they try to kidnap his mother because she's a healer, Arthur protects his mom and drags a mage with him over the edge of a cliff.
Surprisingly, he lives, but a strange disembodied voice directs him to a rock outcropping in the middle of nowhere, where he meets a very strange creature.
...Well if you thought not much happened in the last book, not a lot happens in this one either. The action speeds by really fast, then there's a random downtime with events that aren't explained (plus a random flashback?) and then we take a detour because justice. And these things seem to happen really fast because of the big panels with little dialogue or exposition. So... I'm still in this weird gray area because I feel like this could be a fun isekai, but the pacing is throwing me off.
El capitulo 44 sigue siendo igual de increíble que la primera vez que lo leí. Amo demasiado a arthur.

I love this series so far! The artworks great, the plots interesting.
In this one art saves his family by sacrificing himself but he doesn’t die he’s saved by Sylvia, who turns out to be a dragon. She gives art what looks like a dragons egg to protect and sacrifices herself building a portal for him to return to his family. He will receive a message from her again once he is stronger to explain everything. The portal transports him to a forest where an elf girl is being captured by bandits, he kills them to rescue the girl.
Next book please!

Argh, book 3 is not yet available in print. This one had another cliffhanger ending and I absolutely adored Sylvia (in both her forms). I can't wait to find out what happens next! :)
Now I'm genuinely curious if the main character is actually 'dead' in his first life, or if there is some kind of out-of-body alternate dimension shenanigans going on.
Sylvia 😭😭 I'm here for everything about this story, the art and plot are fantastic. This volume continues immediately after book 1 ends and has a minor cliffhanger
