Steam: 3.5/5. Strong Language: 2.5/5. Plot: 4.5/5. Characters: 5/5

Triggers listed at end of review to avoid spoilers. ***Do not read unless you are prepared to accept the consequences. The TWs will ruin some of the story for you. I understand their importance. Do what is best for your mental health. Always take care of you.

‘A Day Of Chaos’ is the conclusion of Steph Macca’s Maxwell Duet. This is not a standalone. You must read book one, ‘A Day Of Ruin’, to fully enjoy this story.

This book picks up right where book one left off. Harlow is in an extremely fragile state, both mentally and physically. She has faced hardships & challenges that no one should have to, and she has done it- alone. It seems like every time there is a bright spot on her horizon, storm clouds inevitably roll in and drown her in a deluge of problems.

Her guys: Dex - her frenemy roommate, Bryson - her crush ex-work colleague, and Finn - her second chance, old boyfriend, have finally realized Harlow’s value. It has dawned on them what their lives would be like without the woman they love. The men work together to protect and love her for the treasure she is.

As feelings bloom and bonds form between the group, an old threat resurfaces. The sinister machinations of one set on Harlow’s destruction will challenge and cost them dearly. Will they pull together or will chaos reign?

If you read my previous review, you know I was blown away by ‘A Day Of Ruin’. The emotional impact of Harlow’s story felt personal and I needed to know what happened to her. These characters, their story, and their plights, were utterly captivating. There was a lot of dramatic build up from book one that continued into this book and I am here for ALL OF IT! I will confess to being WAY TOO INVESTED in my characters. I’m not sure there ever could have been enough. Will I read the follow-up book about Mad-Dog? Try and Stop me!! I love this author.

Last thought: The friendship between Mad Dog and Harlow was ride or die. It never faltered. Too many authors see secondary female characters as competition. It was great to see a tight female bond. It was also amazing to read about a Bromance built on mutual respect, understanding, and love. There was no bu!!ying here. Just a solid foundation of friendship built to support their lady love.

5 ⭐ I loved it. I’ll revisit it like an old friend. This book is moving right into my favorites category. I would recommend it to everyone, even people that don’t ask. I’ll one click this author’s work in the future.
4 ⭐ A great read. I’ll probably reread again when feeling nostalgic. It was enjoyable, not portable magic. I would recommend it.
3 ⭐ I liked it. It was a nice way to pass the time. I doubt I’ll reread it. I’d recommend it to someone asking for a specific genre. Thanks for the memories.
2 ⭐ I completed the Herculean task of finishing this book. At times, it felt like I was Prometheus and the suffering would never end. It just wasn’t for me but I applaud the author for their effort.
1 ⭐ I couldn’t finish this book or I wish I hadn't finished. How do I put this? It’s not me, it’s you.

A Day of Chaos is Book 2 in The Maxwell Chronicles by Steph Macca. You HAVE to read Book 1 first!

Also please pay full attention to the Trigger Warnings in this entire duet. It handles some very tough mental health related topics and if you don't think you can handle reading about those then please don't read the books. Always take care of you first, you are number 1. 🖤

Just like Book 1, 'A Day of Ruin', this book had me in a chokehold from the beginning and it still hasn't quite let me go. Just like Book 1, I was on a roller-coaster of emotions from the beginning. I cried, I laughed, I was shocked - I felt all the things.

I loved every character in this book/duet. The guys became such an unstoppable team, I really loved watching their bromance form, and the friendship between Harlow and Mad Dog was what every girl should have with her ride or die 🖤.

The spice in Book 2 was also 👌🏻 .. you guys there are group scenes!! And yes, you read that right, I said scenes!! 😉🥵🔥🔥🔥

A Day of Chaos is another instant 5 star read for me, and this duet will forever be one of my absolute favourites 🖤

wow!!

I thought book 1 was a roller coaster, nope book 2 was just the second biggest one in the park! Wow so much to process, but so so good! These men 🤤 Dex has a filthy mouth, Finn has the brains, and Bryson has the heart! Well they all have heart they are all so sweet. I am so glad I stumbled across this series it was so good.

What a twist. Check your trigger warnings, there are a few that could be big ones for some. If you don’t have any or you are good with her list then dive into the deep end with this series. This had my emotions in a tail spin. If you haven’t read Steph Maca’s books you are missing out. She definitely leaves you in suspense, gets you hot and bothered, and keeps you on the edge of your seat. There is a HEA but you have to ride out the storm. I feel like this could have still been worked into a trio and the relationship building and forgiveness was rushed but still a good book overall.

I’m unsure how I feel about this book. I felt like the first was so good and gripped me instantly, but I struggled with this. I felt it was rushed and certain things were not explained very well, the stalker being who he was came from left field and was more like ‘who could be the most unlikely’ and even the stalking wasn’t really explained (unless I missed something). Harlow also really annoyed me, it didn’t feel like there had been any development for her, if anything she regressed. She seemed very weak female, needing a man (or 3) to save her - she doesn’t actually do anything for herself.

I’m glad that I finished the series, but I do feel like this was rushed and left me more confused than anything.

DNF chapter 3 (8%). I really liked the first book. It hooked me from the start, and I could not put it down. Pretty sure I read it in one sitting. Plus, it got me out of a reading slump, which I’ve been struggling with off and on the past few months. Some things bugged me, but overall, I really enjoyed it, so I was very much looking forward to this second book😄. Unfortunately, there was a disconnect for me from the start. I didn’t feel invested in the story anymore and found myself not caring enough about the characters or what happened☹️, which I’m bummed about. I also felt annoyed by the FMC this time around🤦‍♀️, whereas I really felt for her in the first book. Idk what happened. My ongoing reading slump has been making it harder and harder to get into books😭. I am curious to find out what happens, but then again, I’m not a fan of the pregnancy trope, especially when it occurs before the epilogue🫤, so learning the FMC gets pregnant in the book made me less interested. Idk I have mixed feelings about whether to pull through and keep reading🤔. Maybe I’ll come back to it, but I’m just not feeling it right now.🤷🏻‍♀️

The stalker storyline is a common one but book #1 A Day of Ruin, set this duet up nicely. After that major cliffy, we get back to hoping that Harlow and her guys; Roommate Dex, Ex-Boyfriend Finn, and co-worker Bryson, will be okay. This stalker definitely upped his game.

However, this book does not live up to what I would have expected after that first book. The stalker is supposed to be highly connected to be able to put Bryson behind bars but that is not the case. I guess I just had too high expectations! Plus, I've seen Criminal Minds and I know a stalker does not just cut ties and try to run away.

Check your trigger warnings, Harlow is not a strong heroine and suicidal tendencies are in both books. Thank goodness for good therapy.

had potential

So I can say that I read both books in this duet quickly, and though it had a great deal of potential, for me, it just fell flat. The first book was emotional and gripping, but unanswered questions and parts that didn’t fully make sense kept pulling me out of the story a bit. But this one just completely rushed a conclusion, didn’t really explain anything, and left me feeling it was just lacking. So for me, a series that had a lot of potential, and started decently, just didn’t finish that way for me. Probably being a little generous with 3 stars for this one if I’m honest…

Another wonderfully written conclusion to the Chronicles of Maxwell! My only complaint is I really didn't want it to end.

We pick up where the ridiculously enormous cliffhanger book 1 left us with and the action just keeps rolling from there... THE COUCH! Group scene, triggers, enormous reveal of who the stalker is, just could not put this dang book down. I loved the development of Harlow's character and how she comes to terms with the obstacles in her life and how real of a response it is. Yes she has been ready to end it but how she grows is just beautiful.

So Freaking Good!

People are sleeping on this series. There’s no other explanation for why I had to stumble across it in a random post in a Facebook group instead of hearing it being shouted from the rooftops.

I loved these books. Loved their story. Loved their arcs and how they came to care for one another, how they became a family during the hard times. It was perfection and I was devastated when if ended.

I cannot recommend this series enough but make sure you check the triggers!

Well that was not what I expected out of this story….. but in a good way. Steph had so many hints to possible stalkers but I did NOT expect the result. Don’t worry I won’t ruin it for you you’ll just have to read it yourself.

I will say that each dynamic in this story is tied up at the end, is every story a happy one? No, not exactly but you won’t be asking “what happened to…..?” about any of the important characters.

This was great, I absolutely loved it! This book had such a beautiful balance of everything from plot to spice to relationship development! This one was incredibly fast-paced, with very little of the story lingering on one point. Lily and Harlow's friendship was beautiful. They really were ride or die besties! The focus on mental health recognition and healing in this book warmed my heart, and a lot happened to these characters, but they got their HEA and then some!

A Day of Chaos is the second book in The Chronicles of Maxwell Series by Steph Macca. Make sure to read all Trigger Warnings. Also grab tissues. We are still following Harlow, Finn, Dex, and Bryson stories. Harlow will finally get the outcome we have all wanted for her - happiness. But dang, she sure has to go through it to get there. Great conclusion. Very happy that she gets her HEA.

I think the author has a really great storyline that has so much potential, but the series of events ended up being so rushed. Because of this, the believability factor is pretty low for me. I also think I may be too mentally stable to identify with the main character. Overall, the book still held my interest, and it turned out to be a pretty good read.

Although there is a glaring plot hole in this duet, there is also a huge amount of plot. Very dark with lots of mental health trigger warnings, but appropriate for someone suffering all the circumstances of the main character. And I appreciated that those problems didn't magically resolve themselves as the story wrapped up.

This storyline is beautifully written, with such detail and emotion. I was in tears in many parts - heart breaking. Love books that can really move you like this.

What a great ending/conclusions to Harlows story. You get the answers to your questions at the ending is soo good. It was good to see Harlow and her guy work together and support each other through thier problems and come out stronger for it.

This was a great sequel to the first book and continued the development of the characters really well. It was a little slow (for me atleast) to start but then it did kick off and I couldn’t put it down. Steph has once again provided a great story

This was a great follow-up to book 1. The 5 different storylines merged together to create a unified feeling and the hot factor shot up! There are definitely some sensitive topics, but well written.

Good but lacking

So, first book was 5 stars for me. This one, 3.5-4. I feel it was rushed, so therefore lacking details.

I'm a little confused by the last few sentences of this book. I don't know what any of that had to do with the story and it was a super weird place to end things.

Mind your triggers!!

A fine conclusion but I still don't understand why Lily is there when we learn next to nothing about her.
