Ellen Feldman is an American writer. She grew up in New Jersey and attended Bryn Mawr College, and graduated with B.A. and an M.A. in modern history. She also worked for a publishing firm in New York City and continued with graduate studies at Columbia University.
Feldman currently lives in New York City and East Hampton, New York.

I really like her writing style. Bailey, Mack and his son Will, Charlie, Nell...blending year-round residents with families on holiday at their summer home. Quite a cast of characters.

The protagonist Bailey Bender a middle aged woman quits her successful lifestyle with a job in television media to try and decode her troubling past. She tries to figure out why she made the decisions she did as a younger person, such as giving up her child for adoption almost 30 years ago.

This book was a good read. It shows how people can easily turn their lives around and become successful regardless of their past. This book sent a message to the world of hope in everyone's life.

If i were to rate this book out of ten stars, id give it an eight. This book kept me interested enough to get a high rating.

Critics say that Bailey finds her lost child a little too quickly and the ramifications of finding him are unrealistic. I disagree and say "why not?" But I do agree the crime got solved and its many loose ends sorted out in a manner that seems slightly too neat.

A good read, but not overly memorable.

I really liked this book, it was an easy read, well written, the mystery was a little easy to figure out and some of this story kind of far-fetched, but I still liked it and I liked the relationships that Bailey had and the scaled down life that she chose.
