Moon Over Hank's Hollow was a perfect start to a new shifter romance series. I liked the conflict over the FMC and while I found most of the storyline to be quite predictable I still loved reading the journey it took me on. I found the pace to be a bit slower than some other shifter romances and I enjoyed that we took a little more time getting back story and details.
I would have liked to have seen the FMC use more witchy powers and had a few more people of the pack be more accepted. I would like to see in the future books the FMC spending more time with their grandmother and learning more about themselves and their powers.

I'm apparently in the minority here. Maybe it's not the author's fault, maybe it's just me having a problem with your typical YA. But I could very well have gone on with my life without reading Moon Over Hanks Hollow. The characters are flat, their reactions are often contradictory and the way their actions are described seems very juvenile to me.
Clara was the only one I found interesting, and it's a shame she only appears in a few chapters. Lucas could have been included in this short list but the way he laughed his head off because Rosie had the "misfortune" to talk to an elderly person.... It was rubbish and crushed what little esteem I had for him.
Rosie is unbearable. She really is. Her reactions aren't strong enough for what she's going through. Amos, who has hated her since she was born, makes her feel only slightly uncomfortable. Not frightened. Or at least not scared enough to talk to her father, the alpha. She never talks about anything, and what a pain in the ass that is. She gets shot? No, don't say anything, I want to be able to walk in my forest and I don't care if I get shot again. Is she being sexually assaulted? Oh well, I'm going to be pissed off at Lucas for daring to tell my dad, how dare he! Have a little gumption, it's unbearable. I don't care if she's 16. I've read a lot of YA where the FMC had more common sense and it was easier to sympathize with them.
A plot sprinkled with machismo and sexism, where werewolves eat the bodies of the women they rape after they've given birth... What a delight.
I usually like stories with territorial alphas and so on, but this is too much. And the fact that no man asks himself whether it's right or wrong? "No but that was a different time". Right... Sorry, that's probably the point of the plot, but that's a no go for me.
Thank you to Rachelle Kampen, Wise Wolf Books and BookSirens for giving me an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
Rosie Hart is an anomaly. A female werewolf who is half witch. She has been raised in a male dominated world. She has been hidden and protected but she has enemies. She has struggled with her empathetic nature in social situations and feels like she is a freak. My heart bled for Rose as she struggles to find her way. She has a terrific support team in her father, brother and Lucas. But even they must submit to the council. I can’t wait to see how she grows into her gifts and takes on the patriarchy.
This is a very YA book I loved the dual werewolf witch thing! Lots of world building which is always wonderful! I’m definitely looking forward to seeing where the story goes from here! It was a nice quick read! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Wow. The details in the book are extraordinary ✨️ The way Rachelle describes her characters in amazing
Although the story doesn't have much happening, it is book one and its wide open now for book 2 which honestly I cant wait to read.
"Werewolves put on polite smiles in the human world, where females held high-ranking positions and were treated as equals. But in their secret society, behind closed doors, they lived in male-only packs , keeping their existence hidden from the rest of the world."
🖤POV is mainly Rosie but also Sam and Lucas. 🖤Slow Burn 🖤Warewolfs 🖤Witches
Not fair, this book ended on a big revelation and cliff hanger. Where do I get book?
Okay, let's start with this; there is a hidden world where werewolves and witches live and thrive. To keep their secret is the biggest responsibility. But there are only male werewolves, and female witches. So, when Simon falls in love with a witch, and they produce a female heir - she is both a werewolf and witch. While the werewolf council allowed for her to live, they are still extremely hesitant about her existence.
Rosie's life is definitely not without its difficulties, what with her extreme empathy and uncertain future always hanging over her head. She is labelled a freak at school and her life at home is also not always the best, as some of the pack members also don't approve of her existence.
I had the best time reading this book. Its a quick read, easy to get through and thoroughly engrossing. It has everything, an interesting main plot, various sub-plots, including romance, and lots of intrigue. I would give anything to know what Rosie's future will end up looking like.

This book was provided to me by the Book Sirens team, and the review is my own opinion.
This book was well written and easy to read. The plot line wasn't particularly driving, so it wasn't something that I had to pick up every chance I got.
This book was entirely introductory to the series. However, because it didn't have a catching plot line, I'm not driven to read the rest of the series. Additionally, there were too many named characters introduced, but not developed all at once. I had a hard time keeping track of who was who, it might have been better to introduce the main characters then refer to others more generally at least until the characters were more developed.
Overall, this could be a good young-adult series, but I need a little bit more to keep me interested and this doesn't have the pull that it needs to do that. More plot and character development would do wonders for this book. It is a very quick read, so developing it a little bit more would not bog the book down or make it too cumbersome. I think it definitely has promise.

I chose to read this book because I love anything to do with werewolves and I really hoped for a new love. I mean a werewolf that is half-witch, this has the makings of an intense story, right? Sadly it wasn't meant to be. I could not stand Rosie at all, and for that matter, most of the characters just fell flat. Their reactions just seemed contradictory and childlike. Yes, I know they are teenagers but they just felt very juvenile and left me wanting to smack them all.
I truly don't see Rosie taking on the council and fighting for her own survival. Maybe that will change in future books, I'll hold off and see what happens. I will read the next story when it comes out just to see if the characters have evolved in any way.
My first witch/shifter book and it was dope! It was definitely a quick read for me and I’m kind of upset with the abrupt ending. Now I have to sit and wait for the next part of this series. The mfc Rosie is pretty cool with her witch powers and her were duality. I feel like the pace was a bit slow but the magic/ fantasy moments were beautiful. I can’t wait to find out between the wolf packs and the witches!

The plot seemed unfinished, but the story was entertaining. I wished the witch side of Rosie was explored more. We may get more of that in the next installment. The ending is a bit abrupt, but it makes you interested to see where this goes next.

I've been reading a lot of supernatural romance books lately, and find that stories with shifters all tend to lead in the same direction. Rachelle took this book in several unexpected directions and I have never been more exacerbated about having to wait for a sequel in my life.

I didn’t expect to like this book as much as I did but I did really enjoyed this YA paranormal story. The characters really came to life and made me adore them. I can not wait to finish the series ☺️. I would definitely recommend the series to others.
it was a nice and quick read, easy to digest. very simple. it felt a bit raw, like something you need to develop and polish. that being said, the idea was nice and i like that it was very entertaining, still. while it could use a bit of work, it was a great start and could have a good future.
I couldn’t put this book down! This book was beautifully written. The author did a wonderful job of creating a world that I could visual. All the characters had dimension that differed from one another as well. There was love, loss, tension, uncertainty, and anticipation throughout the entire book. I cannot wait to read the next book.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
While the story line and character relationships are good I felt the witch sid eof rose wasn't explored a much as it should have been. Still a good read.
I just finished the book and wow! I was quickly hooked from the first page and couldn't put it down! I loved pretty much all of the characters. Except Amos, obviously. Amos can take tumble down a very steep and craggy cliff. And so can all of the other close-minded a-holes who treat Rosie like she's an abomination. I think Rosie's abilities are amazing! It's sad that she felt like she could only use a little of her magic while with her werewolf family. Which is why I was cheering when she went to her maternal grandmother's home who not only helped her grow and embrace her magic but told her she wasn't an abomination but a gift. Grandma Clara is the best and should be allowed to beat some sense into Amos and the others who think like him. I loved the romance in this book it was so stinkin' sweet and I can't wait to see their love grow. I definitely can't wait to start reading the next book because I have to know what happens next!

Total Rating: 3.50 stars Method: Kindle / electronic copy
This book was a quick and interesting read. It didn't take long to get started or jump straight into the plot. I like books that tell you the plot and the story as you go along rather than shoving a bunch of info and dumping chapters into the front of the book, and this one lets the world build slowly through the eyes of the different characters.
In the past, I wasn't always the biggest fan of multiple POVs in books, but recently I've been coming around to it more and more. And this book was a good example of how to do multiple POVs well. I never felt disjointed or jumbled as the POV changed from one character to another and back again. Each of their chapters added to the plot and built the story up, helping to understand the world and how different characters' perspectives shaped it.
Obviously, this was just the first book in a series, which was made evident by how the book abruptly ended. I was feeling leery when my Kindle said I was at 98% and we were still in the middle of a pivotal moment and then it just ended. I think that was my biggest gripe and why it didn't get rated higher. That and the fact that you can tell that this is almost like the intro to a much larger story that's going to be told in future installments, I just wish the author had maybe added another 50 to 100 pages to this one to end at a better spot than where this one did.

This is a standard modern paranormal young adult fantasy with a few intriguing twists. As the only female wolf on the planet, Rosie is in a precarious situation as a teenager with underdetermined future. The pressures is on as she makes mistakes and learns her own heart.
She learns that this highly male dominated world of wolfs have some hidden undertone of violence. It’s refreshing that the MFC has a strong family to lean on. The end has more story to tell, but doesn’t leave the reader upset, more curious.
The authors voice captures young adulthood with its up and downs. I’d recommend this to any young adult. The content in this first book stays fairly moderate.
I received this as an ARC without compensation for an honest review.
**I received an ARC of this novel through BookSirens, thank you a ton! This has not impacted my review in any way**
**No major plot spoilers (semi character spoils) were harmed in the making of this review*
"Once upon a time, witches and werewolves lived in harmony."
So I decided to read this book on a whim. To be honest, it was not half bad. The writing was fast paced, maybe a bit too fast paced with lack of description for some scenes, but it didnt feel....rushed? Just more like...it could of used more scenes in between actions or dialogue to help build up the story, the emotions, just...everything, ahah. But it was not bad. Sure, the first few chapters you were hit with just a bunch of information/background info from her mind. And honestly, that was too much and I didnt bother to remember who was who in the big pack. Everyone was just someone in the story acting and reacting LMAO. But yeah, the writing was not horrible, it was a decent read. I could followalong with what was occuring, almost like a wattpad fanfic. There was just enough detail in the book to get into that mentality, but not enough to sink one's claws in. Least it did not bore me. Maybe this was because the story moved soo fast there was not really anytime for lulls lmao...
The characters were alright as well. I was surprised about three of them getting their own povs! I found that refreshing. Not that rosie's pov was bad, just...idk. I liked that she had both strengths and weaknesses. She did acknowledge those. Sometimes those weaknesse overpowered her, But she got back up, and that is what matters. Rosie is just trying to live a 'semi' normal life, and I totally get why its hard in her evironment. OKAY, one thing I did NOT like about this book was the rampant and sharp SEXISM. Goodness gracious. it was like this book was just a bit old firetorch to womens rights and female power. The world in this story just seemed to love to throttle and demean all that woman are and what they can become. It grated on my last nerve. So no wonder why it messed with Rosie's head. But she kept moving forward. And that is all you can do.
Lucas was cute. He was shy ish. He was determined, He was loyal. I loved their budding...whatever. And it made sense! The history made youwant to root for them in the span of the short story. What's not to like about Lucas? His devotion and soul are just..mhmm..
Alright, I think thats all I can really say, I do not really have anymore comments...the ending was kind of abrupt....To behonest, I am just intrigued enough to see how I could read the second book. Ahah. Alright, remember this is all my opinion, if you want your own, read the book when it comes out!
This is the first book by Rachelle Kampen that I have read. From the book synopsis this sounded just up my alley in regards to reading preferences (werewolves, witches, romance), however it was MEH. I very rarely give books a rating this low.
The synopsis is slightly deceiving. It describes a handsome classmate who shows interest. There is hardly anything mentioned throughout most of the book regarding this. You get a few inner thoughts from one of the characters, but this doesn’t lead to Rosie knowing he is interested. It also mentions the werewolf council breathing down her father’s neck? They are mentioned in the prologue, there is a quick mention of them later on and then nothing else until they pay a visit in the last chapter. I would have expected more of the story to focus on Rosie practicing and enhancing her witchcraft and how the werewolf council are monitoring Rosie.
The prologue was great. It was fast paced starting where Simon, the Alpha of the pack, and Rosie’s father has just come back from a meeting with the werewolf council where his baby’s fate has been decided. A decision had to be made as Rosie is the first ever female werewolf, however she was born to a witch mother, so the council was to decide if she lived or died as in some eyes she is an abomination.
They decided she would live until they could see how she would be as she got older.
After the prologue the pace of the story slowed to a crawl without any real world building or character building.
As Rosie, is part witch, I expected the story to focus on this more than it did, however there is very little focus. All you get from it is that she can touch someone and send calming energy into them if they are angry or upset. And she can help flowers, bushes and trees flourish and her grandmother helps her enhance this ability, and she has a healing power that she kept hidden, until a pack member is injured. She uses her witch powers very little in this book.
The boy who shows interest?? I didnt know at first if this was meant to be Mason, the guy she has a crush on, or Lucas, her best friend since she was 6. You find out from his inner thoughts that he wants more, but he doesn’t actually do anything to show his interest, other than be protective of her, however he was already protective.
There are some things that made the story a little faster paced, but there was still not enough time spent on the events (maybe 2-3 pages for each one)
I will read the next book, just to see how the story evolves.
I received this Advanced Review Copy from Rachelle Kampen, and all thoughts in this review are my own.
I am giving this book an overall 3.5★ - rounded down to 3★
The beginning of this book had a lot of descriptive detail/fluff, which I do not particularly enjoy in books. As I said in my TikTok, there was an entire paragraph on how Rosie made hot chocolate. I feel like this type of fluff is super unnecessary in books, unless it is necessary for the character development/world building, etc.
This book is set in the United States (I think present time?) and based in Wisconsin- as a Wisconsinite myself, it was hard to not do a fist pump when I found out haha. I initially did not like that it was based in the United States, just because that doesn't leave a lot of imagination when it comes to the world that they are in. Buuuuuuut once I started reading the book more I realized that this is like a "secret" wolven society that live amongst humans. It reminded me a lot of twilight once I realized this. I don't recall whether this was mentioned at the beginning of the book that it is a secret society?????? I will have to honestly go look after I write this review haha. Anyways so I was just a bit confused on that but overall pretty cool.
It was also confusing that she would sometimes think about the past but it was kind of hard to decipher that in the writing. I know there was a scene where she was thinking back to when she was like... eight i think? But it took me a while to realize that.
I also LOOOOOVe Rosie's powers and I love that she uses them on flowers lmao I think that is so cute. And Amos? bye. WE ARE NOT A FAN OF HIM. Like why so much hate?
The plot in this book I would rate as 3.5★ to 4★- I do feel like it was a rollercoaster of emotions hahaha her and Lucas? love. It didn't say in the book but I am 99% sure that they are mates even though Rosie wasn't sure that she could have a mate but CUTE AFFFFFFFFFFF.
Check trigger warnings for this book before you read. If you liked the twilight book you will probs like this book. I'm kind of upset that there wasn't an ending that made me really excited to read the next book. There wasn't really a time when I was reading it that I was like "oh my god I can NOT put this down." It was a good book, but maybe just not for me!
This book sucked me in from the very beginning. This is a new take on werewolves, only men can be werewolves. Rose is the only female werewolf, but also a witch. She’s caught between two worlds and doesn’t know what the future holds. We get Rose’s POV and a couple of times Lucas’s (her best friend) and Sam’s (her brother). She’s very close with both guys as well as most of the other men in the household. In this story the only females in the household are the human women that raise the children and take care of the house. The mothers are killed after giving birth. Rose’s mother is the only exception being that she died in childbirth and she was actually loved by her father, the pack alpha. In this book we see the struggle Rose has with fitting in with school, where she is different, although people don’t know why as they don’t know of the existence of werewolves and witches. And her struggles with other werewolves who think she should have been killed when she was born, or not allowed to be born. We also see her relationships change with the people around her. She also is coming into her magic as she accepting it more. The world building is well done. The characters are fleshed out well. I enjoyed the new take on the werewolves, although a bit creepy, okay a lot creepy. Always like a new twist. Also enjoyed the take on what being a witch is. A more earthy, healing vibe as opposed to a spell casting one. Love the relationship between Rose and Lucas. Nefarious plots are underway in the background and it ends on a bit of a cliffhanger.
Can’t wait for the next book. I received and Arc for a honest review.
Moon Over Hanks Hollow was a fun and energetic read. It was clear that this was the first book in a series. There was a lot of set up and character arc building that I enjoyed.
I liked the premise - werewolf and witch fall in love, get pregnant, and drama ensues. I also loved the grandmother character, wise and soft and serene, there to teach and inspire.
Rosie grew on me over time. As the lead, a hybrid witch/werewolf, and 16, a lot of her voice was found over the course of this book. I wish she had more (or tried to get more) agency.
The werewolf pack’s background and lore were surprising to me. I was not expecting that kind of misogyny and horror. For a YA shifter romance, that seemed intense.
I definitely understand the need for an antagonist, but I was very surprised that such a protective father and pack would allow a character like Amos to stay at their side. It made it very difficult to read many sections.
I loved Lucas, Sam, Michael, and Daniel. They felt instantly familiar and I’m interested to see how they develop over the series. I liked Lucas’ bond with Rosie too. Protective friend, something more?
I think this book sets up for an awesome book 2, and leaves readers with a lot of questions they want answered.
I received an advanced review copy for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily.
Thank you Netgalley and Victory Editing for allowing me to read and review this book! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I wasn't too sure what to expect from Moon Over Hanks Hollow but I really like it. The story reminded me of a younger version of Blood and Chocolate, which is one of my favorite werewolf stories.
Rosie Hart is half werewolf half witch and she is the ONLY female werewolf to ever be born. Werewolves and witches used to be able to live in harmony but are now divided. Rosie has to deal with being discriminated as a woman and as half witch. Sam, her older brother, and Lucas, her handsome best friend, have her back and defend her against bullies at school and the wolf pack they live with. Rosie just wants to live as normal as possible but with the Werewolf Council breathing down her and her father's back, they are trying to stay under the radar.
The book brought out a nostalgic side of me. Reminding me of Twilight and werewolf days. I love the writing and how to the point it is. It's been a long time since I've read a werewolf focused story and I highly recommend checking this one out.
The romance is sweet, the characters are intriguing, and I'm ready for the sequel.
You can download Moon Over Hanks Hollow on Kindle Unlimited on May 20th!
Rachelle Kampen shines with MOON OVER HANKS HOLLOW. This is the first book in the Hanks Hollow series. It takes place in Hanks Hollow, Wisconsin. Sixteen-year-old Rosie Hart is the only female werewolf. She is also half witch, which she needs to keep a secret. She discovers a lot throughout the book about herself, her people’s history, and her powers. Meanwhile, she is attempting to be a normal high school teenager. Now that she is getting older the United States Werewolf Council is starting to take an interest in her.
Initially, I had a hard time getting into this story. However, I found myself becoming more invested as I continued reading it. There is a lot going on in the story. It has an interesting plot, with a diverse group of characters. I love Lucas Beckett and the bond he shares with Rosie. Rosie’s father/pack Alpha Simon Hart has kept the kids sheltered from the barbaric lifestyle of the packs. Discovering their history is eye opening for Rose, her brother Sam, and Lucas.
MOON OVER HANKS HOLLOW has a cliff hanger ending. I am anxiously awaiting book two, WITCH IN A WOLF DEN, to find out what happens next. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
Recently released in early April this book is the telling of a half witch half werewolf girl in a world where there are only male wolves. This book is from 3 povs, Rose, her half brother Sam and her best friend Lucas. I seem to have started to develop a love for multiple povs, i feel like it adds more to the story line when you get to see it from different views. And this definitely does it for this story.
The writing in this was very good, great descriptions and a good flow to the story even though it jumped between different people, never got confusing.
Its a different spin on the usual stuff I read, one being the characters are so young so I am hoping that in the next books you get to grow with them. Very high school puppy love themed, which isn’t a bad thing just different for me personally.
I liked this book alot, it was a great quick read to wet the appetite for the series. I think the only thing I struggled with at the start is that its written in 3rd person but after a while you get used to it.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Pack life is hard. It is twice as hard for Rosie. She is the first ever female werewolf, and a witch. When she was born, many thought she should have been killed but that was not her fate. As she comes into the age of being treated as a full member of the pack, other werewolves are not too certain about her place in their world. She is also having typical teenage angst problems that do not help the situation. Opinion Its true that I am a sucker for paranormal. I just love to read author's different takes on what we all have some conception of. This one is truly interesting (and infuriating) as women have no place in their pack. (Read it and find out how they continue the lines, you'll be quite mad.) Kampen did offer some hope with Rosie's existence but with the cliffhanger ending, it is uncertain if more calamity will befall her. The style of writing is smooth. With short chapters, you don't realize that you have been reading for over an hour because it is so easy to become engrossed in the book. With the cliffhanger, I cannot wait to see what happens next. Many thanks to Net Galley and Victory Editing for providing me with an ARC of this book.
Thanks, BookSirens, for providing the advance copy for review.
Moon Over Hank's Hollow is the first book in a shifter romance series that was published on 22nd May 2022. Everything about this novel was fantastic: the plot, the narrative, and the characters. There was an element of slow-burn romance and relationship development that made it nearly impossible to put down.
Half-werewolf, half-witch Rosie Hart is the only female werewolf in the world. Werewolves and witches used to get along, but now they're at odds.
An excellent YA paranormal fantasy novel that features the dual storytelling of the werewolf witch! There's a lot of world-building going on, which I always find impressive! The storytelling is sure to take us on a journey from here! My favorite part of the book was how fast it was yet how entertaining it was!
Anyone who loves a well-written paranormal romance or loves something different and intriguing should check out this book. I'm planning to add it to my favorites!
One of my favorite reads is a shifter romance. When I saw this book, I knew I had to read it, and I'm glad I did. This book has a fresh taste on the shifter universe. I love the change in background where men are shifters and women are witches. It plays on the typical misogyny one might expect in an all male group which hits home to me, as I am employed in a mostly male field. I also enjoyed the guessing on who would end up as the love interest while also setting up the relationships well for the future books in the series.
One hope that I have for the rest of the series is that there are more twists involved in the main conflict storyline. I feel like, given the prologue and epilogue, that the conflict is very predictable.
Overall, I recommend this read to someone who wants a different take on a shifter world with slight touches on relatable situations. Pick up this book if you love friends to lovers, slow burn, Forbidden love, and hidden identity.
