She can see into shifters' hearts. He's afraid of what she will find in his.
The woman’s eyes were dark, a brown so deep they were almost black. When Grant looked into them, he was gripped by a need to protect so overwhelming that it was all he could do not to leap across the room and take her into his arms.
Go to her! his panther demanded. It wanted to break free, to make him shift and stalk through the room on four legs, tail lashing, a barely veiled threat aimed at anyone who would harm her. The scents of the room grew stronger as he came closer to shifting, his animal senses becoming sharper.
He knew what was happening. The thing he feared the most.
This human woman, Irina, was his mate. His soulmate.
All shifters were meant to want to find their soulmate. It was a magic more powerful than their ability to shift, or their telepathic powers. True love; the sacred connection between two hearts.
The mate bond was meant to last forever. But Grant knew how fickle his panther was. Nothing ever held its attention for long.
In one moment, as he stared at the dark-haired woman, Grant’s heart was made whole and broke into a thousand pieces. She was his soulmate. The one woman he would ever love.
The woman the creature in his soul would betray.
Grant always feared his panther's instincts would break his mate's heart. But when a mysterious enemy targets his true love, he'll have to trust the animal inside him to save her life.

📚 Plot & Characters
Irina’s journey is one of resilience and quiet strength. An artist at heart, she balances her creative dreams with the realities of working as a waitress in New York City. Her roots in the Adirondack Mountains—and the home left to her by her grandmother—anchor her to a past filled with sacrifice and love. That duality between city life and rural solitude mirrors her inner conflict: the desire to chase her art while honoring the legacy of the woman who raised her.
Grant, on the other hand, embodies power and mystery. A billionaire panther shifter raised by a human mother, he carries the scars of abandonment after his father walked away. His wealth and influence are undeniable, but beneath the polished exterior lies a man haunted by the fear of repeating his father’s mistakes. His bond with Matthias, a lion shifter, and Matthias’s twin sister Frankie ties him to the art world in unexpected ways—ultimately leading him straight to Irina.
When Grant and Irina meet at the gallery, the spark is immediate and undeniable. Yet Grant’s reluctance to embrace his fated mate adds a delicious tension: he is drawn to Irina with an intensity he cannot resist, but his fear of hurting her keeps him at arm’s length. This push-and-pull dynamic drives the emotional core of the story, making their connection both fragile and magnetic.

🌟 Highlights
• Fresh take on shifters: The blend of art, wealth, and supernatural lore makes this story stand out from typical shifter romances. • Emotional conflict: Grant’s struggle between desire and fear adds depth, making his character more than just a brooding alpha. • Suspenseful undercurrents: Mystery threads through the narrative, keeping the tension alive and the reader hooked.
---
⤵️ Low Points
• Villain overload: With multiple antagonists in play, the plot occasionally feels crowded, which can dilute the impact of the central conflict.
---
🎙️ Narration
Told in dual POVs, the audiobook benefits from the contrasting voices of Xander Stone and Alexa Borys.
• Xander Stone: His deep timbre suits Grant’s commanding presence, though at times his delivery feels a touch rigid. • Alexa Borys: A standout performance—her natural, emotive narration breathes life into Irina’s vulnerability and strength.
Together, they create a balanced listening experience that captures both the grit and tenderness of the story.

💬 Final Thoughts
This audiobook offers a compelling mix of romance, suspense, and supernatural intrigue. Irina’s artistic soul and Grant’s conflicted heart make for a pairing that feels both inevitable and fraught with danger. While the abundance of villains occasionally muddies the waters, the originality of the premise and the emotional stakes more than compensate.
For listeners craving a shifter romance that breaks the mold—one that blends art, mystery, and fate—this is a story worth diving into.
A new series by Zoe Chant. The panther is Grant and he's a billionaire (what else!). Irina is an artist and a waitress because her art hasn't sold. Her roommate arranges for a showing of Irina's paintings at a gallery where two meet and he realizes they're mates. Terrified by this knowledge because his own father - a panther shifter like himself, ran out on his mother before Grant was born. He's afraid he will do the same but can't resist the pull to Irina. A few dates and some bad guys doing bad things come along to complicate things but nothing can stand in the way of true love or fated mates. It was a good story and I really enjoyed reading it.
In this romance, the shifter tropes remain: shifter magic helps shifters turn from human to animal and back; shifters are beautiful, powerful and strong with extra sensory skills; shifters are protective of their mates, and so on. But, this story has something extra: a human with abilities and an organisation with mysterious artefacts. It speaks of thorough world building where the readers discover with the characters new and surprising events and changes in their world. It is a great start to a new series.

Grant and Irina were a basic bitch fated mates couple. This is as generic as you get for a shifter romance. While I didn't particularly hate the characters, there was nothing special about them or their connection. The plot is fairly straightforward but doesn't stand out. This whole book just screamed bland.
I got this as part of a two-book set that I assumed was meant to get you hooked on a series. The other book didn't seem to be part of one, but this one was. I didn't care for the first half the book, and it took me the better part of a week to read it. But then the action started and I flew through the second half!
Great read. Was kinda predictable then got kidnapped of course he is going to save her and everything is alright. Of course she doesn't freak out and reject him (not that I wanted her to but just needed more depth to it) I'd like to read the next in series but probably won't.
