Lara has loved books since the days of being read bedtime stories by her Irish dad and French mum. At school she set up a secondhand bookshop called Books Change Lives, and went on to study English and Italian at Oxford University. After teaching in Italy and Myanmar, she got her dream job as a writer for Usborne Publishing. From explaining how economics works, to inventing boredom-busting activities, to telling a good dragon yarn, she's enjoyed every minute of the job.
I love these books. Aimed at kids but pitched perfectly for me, they’re so simple to understand (without being patronising) and illustrated and designed so well. A great example of how to present information in a way that’s simple and engaging.
Very through and clear (understandable and coherently deplaned), also has great images and examples to help explain things, I don’t generally like non-fiction books as much, but this was so fun and amazing!!! Now I know so much more about economics, thanks to this!
An excellent introductory book about economics. Easy to read, picture-based (comic book style). I would even recommend it as essential reading to understand current politics and economic decisions that impact markets, including the stock market.
It's the perfect book for someone who wants the fundamental knowledge of economics instead of trying to learn from a lengthy educational course.
My son asked for this book to prep for an independent economic test he was taking for a competition. I giggled a little when it arrived and noticed it was an Usborne book, but the graphics looked interesting and when I found it discarded and barely read a year later I added it to my pile. In our new age of tariffs, the graphics they used when they published in 2020 are a little spooky. It was a fun brush up on a subject I took in the 1990s!
Always good value, this Usborne book was an excellent introduction to Economics for my middle son (14 years old) who liked it so much he gave it the five star rating. I highly recommend this series as a way to introduce children/students to otherwise difficult topics as Usborne does such an excellent job of explaining things in ways everyone can easily understand and apply to everyday life.
