John B. Manbeck ist der offizielle Historiker von Brooklyn. Historically Speaking ist eine wöchentliche Kolumne, die im Brooklyn Daily Eagle erschienen ist. Darin erzählt Manbeck über den Stadtteil, bestimmte Gebäude, aber auch Menschen, Begebenheiten und die Geschichte Brooklyns.

Brooklyn ist mehr als nur ein Stadtteil von New York. Das sagt nicht nur John B. Manbeck, aber er ist derjenige, der hier zu Wort kommt. Man merkt beim Lesen, dass es sich hier um eine Sammlung von Artikeln handelt, denn jedes Kapitel ist nicht nur in sich geschlossen, sondern es gibt auch keinen roten Faden, der durch das Buch führt. Ich hätte die Reihenfolge der Kapitel manchmal anders gewählt, aber ich bin mir sicher, dass der Autor gute Gründe für seine Wahl hatte ;)

So oder so: auch für jemand, der Brooklyn nicht kennt, war Brooklyn. Historically speaking schon interessant. Für Kenner ist das Buch bestimmt noch viel interessanter.
