Sean Wyatt #21

Where Horizons End: A Sean Wyatt Archaeological Thriller

Rate this book
Throughout history, kings, presidents, prime ministers, and treasure hunters have sought the fabled lost city of Shangri La. For centuries, this utopia has been relegated to fiction and lore, believed to be nothing more than a legend in the eyes of every historical expert in the world.

Until an archaeologist discovers an ancient map carved into a sacred mountain in China, and is murdered because of it.

Now, Sean Wyatt and his team from the International Archaeological Agency must trace his work and solve a series of clues that wind through China, and relearn this fascinating country's history that could lead to the key to opening Shambala's gates.

But they aren't the only ones who seek the door to Shangri La. An old rival is chasing down the clues as well, financed by one of the Far East's most powerful underworld leaders.

Where Horizons End is the first Sean Wyatt novel in over a year from USA Today Bestseller Ernest Dempsey. It's a powerful story about courage, friendship, and salvation against impossible odds, and in the face of a possibility that defies logic, and science as we understand it--and with a twist ending that you won't see coming.

This is also the 21st book in the Sean Wyatt Adventure Series, an up-tempo archaeological thriller story that spans more than a decade, and follows a set of heroes on their personal and professional journeys against all odds, and all manner of villains.

Welcome to the IAA

The International Archaeological Agency is a fictional agency based in Atlanta, Georgia. The agency's primary purpose is recovery, security, transport, and analysis of priceless artifacts pulled from dig sites all around the world. That job often gets complicated when nefarious characters emerge.

Follow along with the entire Series, and become a member of the IAA Field Division. There's no telling what you may find out there in the world of lost history.

One of the highlights of my year is the release of a new Sean Wyatt story. I’ve read all 21 of these books, and enjoyed each, however with each new release I find a new favorite and am amazed that Mr. Dempsey can keep the new story just as fresh as the early stories. While they may contain similar elements- after all archeology is all about looking for old stuff- relics and treasures included - the stories are all unique and Where Horizons End took me on a journey that I’ve wanted to go on for most of my life, in fact I’ve read numerous books, comic books and watched more than a few movies that were related to the central pursuit in this story. What is interesting about this story, the location of the story‘s destination wasn’t in any of those previous books comics or movies. If you are a Sean Wyatt fan, then grab a copy and settle in for an entertaining journey to one of archaeologies greatest mysteries. If you are new to Sean Wyatt, grab a copy and after reading this episode, you can look forward to reading the previous 20 books in this series. I received an advance reader copy for the author and chose to provide this review.

Once again we are off on an extraordinary adventure with Sean, Adriana, and Tommy. This time we are headed to China to find Shangra-La, or are we..... Love the facts, history, and amazing locations Mr. Dempsey takes us to in these stories. Of course there is always a bad guy who is supported by a really bad guy and our heroes always encounter them in the worst possible way. Lots of murders, shootings, treasure, mystery, and the possible “end of the world” scenario. Highly recommend all of the stories in this series. Although they are basically standalone stories, like most series, when you read them in order, you get to see the interaction and growth of the characters which makes the story much more enjoyable. While I did receive an ARC of this wonderful novel, this review is totally my own opinion.

Where Horizons End - a review by Rosemary Kenny.

Welcome to Book 21, a magnificent action-thriller by Ernest Dempsey, that sees his intrepid heroes Sean Wyatt, Tommy Schulz and Adriana Villa, hired to investigate an apparently accidental death in China - and, then to find the eponymous fabled location.

As usual, there's a Bond-type villain lurking in the shadows, while a deadly henchman and a female assassin are hot on the good guys' trail; plus there's an Indiana Jones-like danger round every corner, to keep the adrenalin pumping throughout Where Horizons End: A Sean Wyatt Archaeological Thriller by Ernest Dempsey.
Don't wait - grab a copy right now!

Recommended to fans of Clive Cussler, Ian Fleming and the Lara Croft movies.

Journey to the lost City with the crew.

Well what can I say, Ernest has done it again, another amazing book. I was so engrossed in this story, especially when we got to the lost city of Shangri-La. It felt like I was there, walking through the it with the crew. It was so exciting and I could imagine the place exactly as Ernest described it, It sounded so beautiful, I would of moved there. I even got annoyed with Malcolm for rushing sean, instead of admiring the place 😄😄. Thanks Mr Dempsey for your time writing another fantastic book.

Where Horizons End

This is one of the best books in the series, if not, the best. By now the characters have been developed nicely. You know how Sean or Tommy is going to react. What grabs you here is the plot. Does Shanghai-La really exist? Can the good guys catch up to the bad guys? Who is the Dragon? (Sorry but I figured that out very quickly). Good suspense throughout the book. Plenty of action as well. Highly recommended.

Oh the evil men intend

Shangri La, real or myth? Benitizo hired by the mysterious Mr. Long. Tommy and Sean hired by a friend. Their mission is to find the Lost City. Benny is always one step ahead during this exciting archeological hunt. Until he's not. Who built it, where is it located, why was it built, what happened to the city and/or the residents? Questions will never have an answer to??? Or....? Great job! Love the IAA team. Thank you.

Thrills and spills

I suspect this manuscript was rushed to meet a deadline since there are some novice mistakes in the first quarter: sudden POV changes, inconsistent tenses and overuse of clichés. They are the spills. The plot is exciting, grounded in research and has twists and turns you expect of a thriller. It had the ‘what happens next’ factor that kept me reading to the end.

Ambitious Tale Retold

This is very action-packed though convoluted thriller novel leading to finding the legendary Shangri-La.

The author’s take on this oft-told tale as a thriller involves the whole IAA team, various bad guys and their cohorts, and a trail of cryptic clues leading to a fantastic conclusion.

Ernest Dempsey writes a quality story, but it’s been told before and lacks that edge needed for a top review.

Terrific read !

I love it when a book makes me smile during character dialogue.
This book did that in numerous places.
The adventure, excitement and betrayal make for a tremendous read.
Good to know that so much written about the places is real.
I love all the Wyatt books, and this one did not disappoint.

This was another excellent Sean Wyatt novel by Ernest Dempsey. If you are a fan of Clive Cussler and Indiana Jones stories -- you'll find this archeological thriller to be in the same vein. I liked the various twists and turns in the plot, as well as the interesting locations they visited.

Such a disappointment 😒

I have been a big fan of the Sean Wyatt series from the beginning. Archaeology is so interesting and a great back drop for storylines. There has been violence in every book, as the team has to defend themselves, but there was so much more violence and it was more graphic than any of the previous books. There is so much blood and guts on television that I don't want it in my reading materials. I would have liked to have Shangri la described in more detail; how it started, how the people lived and what led to its demise. I missed the character and relationship bibdevelopment present in the previous books. It seemed, to me, they were there mainly as a means for delivering the violence for this book. I really like Ernest's writing and creativity. I don't like leaving a negative review. 😣

Another Fun Adventure

I really hope someday the adventures of Sean, Tommy, Adrianna & company are a series. Only with the caveat that they must be done well & true to the story line. I love how this author uses factual history as a foundation and myths as a medium to tell a story. Like most of my favorite authors, this captivates you into reading it with as few interruptions as possible(two sittings for me). During this time, the mess that is the state of our great country currently, takes a back seat. I am given time to allow my entire focus to be on something else, and so I get a break from the pandemic, the disastrous results of the current administration mistakes and the possibility of war. Thanks for a fun and entertaining read! Hard to believe this is #21!

If you are a fan of Indiana Jones then you will love this series, Jones is a rank amateur compared with the gang from the IIA. No fewer than 21 adventures and still going.

Although these books are pure fiction, Ernest Dempsey bases them on real places with the mystery of legend and the promise of great treasures.

As usual it's a race between good and evil to find what has been hidden for millenia and while a lot is quite predictable in the authors style of writing, who cares, all of his books are fast paced, exciting and fun to read. You also learn a bit more about the world we live in and ancient cultures, what's not to like about it?

As usual a 5 star read from Dempsey.

Another Great Read!!

There were a lot of twists and turns and surprises in the search of Shangri-La.

This was an enjoyable adventure with Sean, Tommy and Adriana as they investigate the apparently accidental death of an archaeologist friend who was searching for Shangri-La. As they investigate his death they are drawn into intrigue and trouble that is trying to keep them from their quest.

There are so many twists and turns as the story unfolds and familiar characters are brought in to help, that you will find it hard to put the book down.

I believe you will enjoy this great adventure as you tag along. I know I did!!

Sean Wyatt and friends are back and in the thick of it! They are on the hunt for the fabled Shangri La and are playing catch up with another group already on the trail! The stakes are high as there's a mastermind who has no problem eliminating stragglers, and so Sean and crew match wits and then put their all into solving the ancient puzzles to find Shangri La and the treasures it holds. Can they do it? Will they make it out? Who gets the treasures and what are they? Its a great read to find out!
