With the successful conclusion of the monster subjugation campaign,Eizo returns home with a new addition to the family—Lidy! However, his days of battling beasts aren’t quite over. During a chance encounter with Samya’s childhood friend, Jolanda, the family learns of another corrupted bear that’s stalking around the Black Forest. Jolanda also mentions a tantalizing rumor about a magical knife, which Rike and Eizo are eager to investigate. Could this be a new product to add to Forge Eizo’s lineup?
Eizo also receives a new large-scale commission that will test his skills, along with some troublesome news—there are signs of a revolution brewing in the neighboring empire. Things go from bad to worse when Eizo finds out that the legendary mercenary Lightning Blade Helen has been taken prisoner by the empire! Can a humble blacksmith come to her rescue? And with so many irons in the fire, can Eizo still forge a quiet life?

(Read on JNC pre-publish section)

Volume 4 of the series was a decent read, slice-of-life with a bit of adventure here and there. It would sit better with me if the plots were a bit more solid (the whole thing with Helen felt off) and the crafting a bit better researched (especially bow crafting). At a few points Eizo also has some odd thoughts in regard to any kids he might have with others. Why would kids have a bigger impact than saving peoples' lives? Or if that was really an issue, wouldn't the being that created his body have said so or made him infertile? This just felt like a cheap way to keep the whole harem aspect "wholesome".

O well, I enjoyed the book well enough. Not the best of its kind, but entertaining.

The first half of the book was fairly ‘run-of-the-mill’ and to be honest was a little boring. The second half should have been more interesting, as Eizo journeys into the Empire on a rescue mission, however this never really got going and was a bit of a non event.
If possible I would have given 2.5 stars.

I have to admit while not terrible, I don’t really feel a need to listen to the next book.

For how short they are and the story behind each one, it almost feels like a waste of a credit. I’ll probably like the story, but I’ll also just be listening to have something other than silence.

And then there’s this whole, I don’t plan on having kids thing. One of the dumbest reasons he won’t pursue a relationship with any of the women he’s gathered. Like the other stuff he’s done hasn’t already changed the world in a big way.

This story is obviously harem based, so I can live with the MC not really picking anyone or being oblivious to the feelings of the women around him in the romantic scenes. However, the women aren’t even trying to make moves. There is no progress. The MC basically treats them like daughters, and all the women do nothing to make you think otherwise. They imply they have feelings, but none of their actions show it.

This might as well be a nun’s convent.

I’m complaining, but I do like the series. It’s just that it’s not an amazing, I must know what happens next series.

Story: Ok so let me get this straight. There is a revolution brewing and a whole kingdom is getting ready, but one of your mercenaries (who are hired independently in the event they get caught, nobody has responsibility over them) gets caught and instead of sending a pro, you send a merchant and a blacksmith to save the mercenary? Despite who the mercenary is, why send an untrained soldier/spy? What kind of kingdom is this? One with 3 towns? WTH with your TRAINED soldiers?!?!

I can get over the poor research regarding blacksmithing, but the whole politics and dragging the MC into it is just ridiculous! When I started the series I thought they were going to focus on crafting and slice of life, not crappy politics and war. What a waste of time, it seems these authors just continue the series for the heck of it with no sense or care to how they are developed. Dropping series. Onto my next adventure. Happy Readings!!!

Slow and steady

This book was even slower than the others. Not that we expect much considering the quiet in the title. Obviously Way more than just a quiet blacksmith. This book was enjoyable slice of life but still very slow follows the axiom of a flapping Butterfly wing to in the east moves mountains in the west kind of deal.. Still kind of fun but Still very childish in some points. However that's indicative of this genre. Short quick read good feeling between the

good series

So far, in 4 books, I’ve found very few flaws and most of them easily fixable. This book has a doozy though. They introduced the Drinking Duck and set up that they would deliver meats 🍖 whenever they were in town, then proceeded to follow up with every visit being straight to Camilo’s shop, then straight home. No mention of further meals there, either, despite his desire to support the owner. A fairly good-sized plot hole, that.

The search for the magic knife was predictable but otherwise the “plot” was fine this volume. I continue to be frustrated with Eizo and his self-deprecation towards his subjective age. He also is apparently ignoring or leading on all these women as he states to have no intention to marry or have children. Honestly, I would stop the series here but I’ve already purchased all of them, so I guess I will be continuing.

The bottom line, underneath the crunchy granola, He's a modern man transported to a backwards world and he's basically a Tony Stark arms dealer. He made the choice to start making weapons of war and even selling in bulk. Being a blacksmith he had the opportunity to make other things to help improve the world. That is just aafter thought.

Sometimes, the quiet life gets a little exciting.

Eizo's life gets a little bit of excitement, when he has to go rescue Helen, after she's captured in the lead up to an uprising in the neighboring empire. Bt

Good installment in a slow life series

Eizo sees a bit of action in this volume which keeps the pace going nicely. However its a relaxing read for folks craving a glimpse into a slow life fantasy world

Another volume with more action then in the past, but still a decidedly slice of life read, which I really appreciate.

I have enjoyed all 7 volumes that I have read so far. I am looking forward to light novel volume 8, volume 5 audiobook, & the manga when it comes out. I think his Sri’s is only available in electronic format.

I highly recommend the audiobook version by Podium Audio and well performed by Greg Chun. The first 4 volumes have been produced by the date of this review. Volume 4 was released in late December 2023.
***** I would give the audiobook series 5 stars if there was a way to review it separately.
