I just love short books with a Christmas theme, but I usually read them closer to Christmas. This book didn't disappoint me at all. I read book 1 in the series awhile ago and really liked it, but I didn't read book 2. I wish I had read it before reading this one. I feel like I missed out on some things.
I love the story of Nurse Katie and the doctor Nash and I like their characters a lot. I can best describe this story as a sweet romance, but one that I seemed rushed to me. It's hard for a short novella to develop things the way I'd like so I get that and I made concessions for that.
It's an enemies to lovers, romantic, humorous, sweet, and it is a book you might want to have something good to eat while reading because it will make you hungry too. LOL
'Eggnog and Candy Canes' (Book 3 in the Blueberry Springs Series) by Jean Oram is a fantastic read. This Christmas novella is great! Trust me, you won't be able to think of monkeys, brownies or lipstick the same again! This story had me cracking up several times and I loved the ending! Awe! Can't wait to see what happens next in Blueberry Springs!
FINALLY done! So the gist: Nurse Katie doesn't want to spend Christmas with her family because it's too much in a small town like Blueberry Springs. Nash Leham, a doctor and her archnemesis comes to town for two days. In those two days? A snow storm happens. Things really start to heat up, and certain truths are revealed. Ugh!!! This series is just not for me, but I bought it, so I'm reading it. The feminist in me is just screaming. "...he needs a good woman to tame him." Um...no? From the other two books in this series, this is pretty on point of what I'd expect🤦 I mean, I get that it's romance and it's a small town, etc, but c'mon, everybody's trying to set every single person up and get into their business?? It makes the chemistry feel kinda forced. That's kinda the problem I've been had with this series, and I think the fault may not be so much the book, but maybe with me, that I'm not really the intended reader??? Among this book's other sins: "...some folks had thought he might be gay. Style and listening skills?" Uh...excuse me...WHAT???? What is this, the 1950s??? These thoughts and attitudes are VERY dated!!! I just can't even!!! And that seems to show up in the other books as well. In this town, they act like you need a relationship to complete you!! I just can't! And let's not forget suggesting that being a nurse is low on the totem pole! (Nurse here). I can't stand the people in the town, ESPECIALLY Liz and Mary Alice whose only purpose is to meddle in other people's business and try to force people together, which is a shame because you don't allow the two love interests to naturally like each other (hence the lack of chemistry). My Takeaway and Verdict: I can't take these books seriously. They're like very cheesy Hallmark romance movies, only a little more ridiculous. I felt like Katie and Nash lacked chemistry and everyone there annoyed me. There was NOBODY I cheered on. I mean, it did have a good message about following your own path and going after what you wanted. Of wanting MORE and daring yourself to do it. That was good. But that message alone really wasn't enough to save the story for me this time.
A sweet, clean novella based in the small town of Blueberry Springs where Dr Nash Lehan previously worked in the local hospital with head nurse and colleague, Katie Reiter. He's back for the Christmas holidays filling in for one of the local doctors and he's determined to see if anything will come about with Katie this time, since she has broken up with her boyfriend.
There are a few obstacles however - they are enemies, he is her best friend's ex boyfriend and his ex girlfriend (Katie's BFF) is married to Katie's brother. It is a complicated situation, not to mention Katie's obvious dislike of him when he was last in town.
Katie is confused. Nash seems to be completely different from previously, he is actually pleasant and softer towards her this time. Has she been mistaken all along? Then he also steps in and carries out an emergency operation on her Dad during the holidays and shows his caring side. He is also the only one who she can't seem to stop confiding in. Is she willing to give him a chance and see where this leads?
There are a lot of characters in the book with all the townspeople involved, typical of a small town where everyone knows the other's business. The main characters were likeable and believable and you can't help rooting for them to have their HEA.
Cute novella that's the third book in the Blueberry Springs series. Haven't read the other books so there were a few missing pieces but the book did a good job of filling in most of the back story. Lots of back and forth and miscommunication from both Katie, head nurse at the hospital and visiting doctor, Nash, who used to work at the hospital before moving on to the next step he thought he wanted in his career path.
He's her best friend's ex boyfriend and Beth is now married to her first love and Katie's brother, Oz. No love is lost between the guys even though Oz won the girl and has a family with her. Lots of Katie's family and Christmas doings and celebrations abound. Story is a little choppy at times and the happily ever after in the offing did happen way too fast.
Ms. Oram is a new author and I will give some of her full length novels a try and see if there is more depth to them.
I am mixed about this book. Overall I enjoyed it but it felt exceedingly fast paced and I felt like I missed a lot. Now, I know this is the third in the series but everyone I've read online and in reviews says it can be read 'out of order' so I thought it wouldn't matter when it turned out it does.
It was also a novella so a lot had to be compressed into shorter space and I get that. I read it because it's still the holiday season so I was like why not finish the year with another Christmas story. Again it was cute, it was sweet, but since this was my first meeting with the citizens of Blueberry Springs I didn't have the background or history for any of the characters or the history for Katie and Nash to really see the development of their romance. Still, it wasn't bad I kind of wish that it had been made more apparent it actually *is* better to read them in order.
I like the characters and the setting, but the romantic feelings and ending was rushed. At the beginning of book Katie couldn't stand Nash and considered him the enemy. Within a few chapters she began doubting her initial assessment, but kept trying to remind herself of it in order to deny her growing interest. The interest felt rushed. It also made me wonder if she truly knows what she wants because she spent most of the book waffling between the career she has and the one she wants. She started off strong and sure of herself, but self-doubt and trying to not disappoint others (like her parents!) removed a lot of the strength I got used to seeing and made her seem weak by the end of the book. Sure she took two big chances on love and career, but both were handed to her on a single platter called Nash.
Nurse Katie and Dr Nathan a dream couple!!! A short story that will make you laugh and swoon all at the same time. Great characters from a small town that know everything about each other. Two people that failed at their attempts in finding ❤️. But did they finally get it right by choosing each other?
If you love short stories with no sexual content but all around good romance between two sworn enemies then this is the book for you. You can thank me later. You're welcome😘😘😘😘
Love Christmas time in Blueberry Spring with Katie 's fami!y. Her mom is all gung ho about it. Katie is a nurse who always schedules to work on Christmas. Nash used to live in the town but moved away. He comes in to town to help at the hospital. He is a doctor. They end up working together. There is a pa st for them but they never were together. It is a small town with all the gossip. The snowstorm and Christmas adventure throughout this book are funny and wonderful. Love these books.
This is a short and sweet story. Katie and Nash are enemies, or are they? This story has lots of laughs and enough romance to make you swoon. It is always nice to check in with the people of Blueberry Springs and see how they are all getting along. Mary Alice is still causing trouble. I would really like to be able to taste Mandy's baking because it all sounds so good. Christmas brought a few surprises can't wait to see what happens next.
If you have read the other 3 books in this series, you have already met both Katie, and Nash. They were not really friends before, Katie had a boy friend, and Nash had started dating her brothers ex, and her bff, Beth. In this book, both are single, Nash has come back to the small town to help over the holidays in the hospital. this is a very quick read, and Katie has decided to follow her heart...
Grabbed as a free read. New author for me and read in the box set of four Christmas stories by this author. Book three in a series and I felt I was missing something. Katie went from hating Nash for some reason I couldn’t truly fathom, to changing her whole life. Nash apparently dated her best friend Beth, who is now Katie’s brothers wife. It must be in a previous book about her brother Oz and Beth. I just didn’t feel any romance or great declaration of love.
What just happened?! Nash is a fine male lead, but he has questionable taste in women. Katie is belligerent, spineless, juvenile and bitchy throughout 99% of the story. The story itself is bland and predictable, the family dynamic is odd, and most of the characters are unlikable. There are a couple of humorous spots, but not enough for me to continue with this series.
Sweet Christmas read, with the enemies to lovers theme alongside. The usual Blueberry Springs characters are out in full force and looking to get Nash and Katie together. This is awkward for Katie as this is the man who was engaged to her best friend and now sister in law. A little convincing and some mistletoe kisses lead to new opportunities..
A Christmas story that will warm your heart. Small town folk who know everyone and not just who they should be with but even what job they should go for. Even a blizzard can't keep friend o or family or sweethearts apart.I
Enjoy this light hearted book that's perfect to while away an afternoon.
A nurse and a doctor fall in love after years of dislike and rivalry. I guess being snowed in at the hospital and performing an emergency appendectomy on the nurse's father does that to you. Just a sweet story, no surprises.
I was not privy to Nash’s apparent appearance in a previous book (I’ll have to go search it out), but I quickly understood the underlying tension as I remember his mentioning earlier in this series. It was a whirlwind, but different and enjoyable.
Loved this book. If you are looking for stolen kisses, sitting by a warm fire with eggnog and rum, Christmas cookies, and not just a Turkey dinner but cabbage rolls as well then this is the story for you! So settle in with your favorite drink and enjoy. Thanks Jean Oram for another delightful book.
A cute novella of enemies to love--over the Christmas holidays....in a small town where everyone knows what's going on. Lots of funny, though not truly realistic, antics going on.
I was in a reading slump so I picked up something short and sweet. It worked! I almost put this down in the beginning because the writing style was NOT for me, but once the story actually picked up, the writing kinda shifted tones, and I enjoyed it much more.
Ok, I'm in love with this series. Now, onto Vodka and Chocolate Drops. It looks like I won't be getting any housework done today! Keep up the good work Jean!
