"The author has spent forty-nine years in the field of education, recently retiring from teaching American, European, Latin American, and Afro-American history at the College of DuPage, Glen Ellyn, Illinois.
"Over the years Everhart has written several scholarly research articles for historical publications as well as a book, 'Another Time, Another Place'--a nostalgic look at mid-twentieth century America. The author's interest in the history of Galena, Illinois, extends back to his youth. Born and raised in northwestern Illinois, close to the historic city, he learned as a youth about Galena, its lead mines, and its architecture. In 1960 while working on his master's degree at Northern Illinois University, he wrote a paper about the city. He later expanded this paper and published it in the Summer 1967 edition of Illinois Journal of History.
"After retirement, Everhart returned to his research and has spent the last two and one half years in the Galena Public Library, perusing primary and secondary resources, which included the microfilm of the Galena Gazette from 1834 to the present. He also did research in the Swen Parson Library at Northern Illinois University and the Chicago Historical Society. Additionally, he sought out conversations with numerous Galena citizens."
Nothing quite like getting 60 odd pages from the end and discovering a publisher's misprinting that repeats the 30 pages you just read! Other than that annoying little faux pas, the book is quite interesting. Also, I do wish the author would not have interjected his opinion into the text as often as he did.
