This major global history of the twentieth century is written by four prominent international historians for first-year undergraduate level and upward. Using their thematic and regional expertise, the authors cover events in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa and the Americas from the last century and beyond. Among the areas this book covers are:

* the decline of European hegemony over the international order

* the diffusion of power to the two superpowers

* the rise of newly independent states in Asia and Africa

* the course and consequences of the major global conflicts of the twentieth century.

This second edition is thoroughly updated, and includes extended coverage of European integration, the rise of supra-governmental organizations, and the ‘global War on Terror'.

A good basic textbook for the political history of the twentieth century. Emphasis on 'basic' - it doesn't pretend that it wants to give you anything but a very brief overview of events and the main schools of interpretation of each epoch. I've seen it said that the writing's dry but this is meant to be a textbook, not an historical narrative, so it's to be expected. Writing's dry and clear - highly comprehensible for native and non-native speakers that know nothing about the subject.

What an amazing book, thumbs up man. A holistic and summarises analysis of all events of 20th century. The authors have discussed both the causes and then the implications of an event. A must read for anyone who wants to know how the world in 21st century came about.
