Rock band “The Slaughtered Lambs” are in town. When young fans Swallow and Kasey are invited to the band’s official afterparty, they believe it will be the greatest night of their lives.
They are wrong.
They don’t know what horrors lie in store for them, or what relentless, brutal depravity awaits behind the closed doors of the mysterious Slaughterhouse.
Tonight, Swallow and Kasey will enter the Horror House of Perversion...
A New York-based screenwriter, Carl John Lee has written a bunch of movies you've either never seen, or would never admit to seeing.
Inspired by Roger Corman and the golden age of exploitation films, Lee probes deep into the filthy underbelly of America, contrasting his bleak worldview with dark humor.
He has three dogs, two cats, and not a shred of dignity.
You know, I have other books I need to review, but the first one impressed me so much that I HAD to read this one next.
Are you familiar with Roger Corman and the exploitation films of the 70’s? If you are too young, let’s just say lots of sex, drugs and horror – but better than most people might expect…sometimes.
Carl John Lee was greatly inspired by this man and these films, and he worked in the movie business as a screenwriter from the seventies. Two weeks ago, I have never heard of him. But, DAAAMMMNNN! The two HORROR HOUSE OF PERVERSION books blew me away. And to think they are based on screenplays he wrote more than 40 years ago is almost beyond belief.
The second book includes a band (I got a real Alice Cooper type of concert feeling) and groupies, and a compound in the middle of nowhere, and all types of debauchery happening inside. And then things start going wrong for the groupies, and by the halfway point you think to yourself that these poor girls are all fucked, and how does this fit in with the first one at all?
You know what? A part of me wanted to say: Oh, it was really good, but it was not such a huge surprise as the first one, so like any sequel it couldn’t live up to it… Then my wife, lying in bed next to me, asked me why I kept scratching. And that’s when it dawned on me that it was a nervous tick and I was so invested in this story that I actually had a little adrenaline rush going on there.
He just writes the story so damn well – it is so visual and you feel like you are in some movie theatre watching this play out. There is so much tits and ass, but it stops being sexy when it becomes brutal. Best of all, this one was more extreme than the first one but the story was totally independent from the first one.
Carl John Lee, if you ever read this review, please contact me, buddy – I need to read more of your work!
This was a brilliant sequel to the first book! It centres around two best friends, Kasey and Swallow who go to see their favourite rock band ‘The Slaughtered Lambs’ in concert. While there, the audience gets overly excited and Swallow is almost ‘trampled under foot’, (my homage to Led Zeppelin!) but Bobby McCoy, the sexy lead singer quickly grabs her over the barrier. Once backstage, and recovering from the shock, she and Kasey are given VIP passes to join the band at their after party. Along with several other pretty, sexy, girls, all handpicked by the band, they board the private bus to The Slaughterhouse, which is where the band lives, and records their music. A night of wild sex and partying with their favourite band, is not what the girls get, as it all takes a sickening and depraved turn, one which they will not all survive. This book is a helluva lot of fun, which has all the extreme horror ‘goodies’ of torture, violence, blood, gore and sex. Books with rock bands in, are a big thumbs up from me anyway LOL 😝🤘🏼 the final part of the book is awesome, and a little bit cheesy, but if you’ve read Book 1, it all makes sense! Carl John Lee, is pure genius!!
Highly recommend to all extreme horror/splatterpunk fans 5 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
I know the horror landscape is vast and filled with peaks and valleys. With each passing day more and more releases arrive and they run the gamut from deep explorations of grief to straight up torture porn. It’s up to each reader to find what they love and what their limits are.
It might surprise the three or four of you who read my reviews that I’m not an overly large fan of ‘extreme’ extreme horror. There are some classic extreme books out there that people rave about and I stumbled through them, barely getting through without DNFing. Then there are others that I’ve read and was blown away with the layers and the messaging and the depth of writing.
So far, what I’ve read from Carl John Lee puts him in the middle. ‘Uncle Carl’ to his fans writes both novellas that ask pointed questions and are topical (see: The Blood Beast Mutations) as well as straight up extreme slasher/survival exploitation (see: Cannibal Vengeance). It’s a neat line to walk and thankfully, for the readers, it doesn’t come across as formulaic or speed written.
What I liked: This one follows two fans of the heavy metal band The Slaughtered Lambs. Led by lead singer, Bobby, (a sexed up maniac who makes the women swoon and the men bang their heads), the two female fans go to the concert. They end up getting an invite back to the bands headquarters aka The Slaughterhouse and they can’t wait. But, things take a turn and blood begins to be spilled.
Lee writes stories that are always fast-paced. He is mysterious himself, his bio suggesting he cut his chops writing screenplays, but his writing is so similar in style to a few other authors, I’m curious to wonder if he isn’t a pseudonym. Most likely not, but it’s always fun to speculate!
One thing I really loved was the strong female leads who continue to persevere, even as it seems all hope is lost. There’s a ton of gore, violence and sadistic moments, which Lee deftly describes, but seeing how Kacey and her new love, Beth, continue to fight was great. Swallow (yes that was her name) is also a solid character and seeing her complete story arc was great.
For those asking or wondering – yes this is a sequel to the first, but you could get away with diving into this one without reading the first. It gets tied together in the final quarter (at one point I was wondering if this was a sequel in name only), but you won’t be lost at all if you didn’t read book one.
What I didn’t like: There was an all-too convenient plot point regarding an ex-significant other that played a role in the ending but the reader will see coming from a mile away. It was still a fun moment, but if Uncle Carl was attempting to have it surprise us, it definitely didn’t.
Why you should buy this: Carl John Lee is always a fun time, writing bloody B-Movie splatter. One thing I always love about his books is that they never feel like they take themselves too seriously, instead making for a fun reading experience and something that you could read in a single sitting if you wanted.
This was another great blast of brutality by an author who continues to slyly release solid novellas. I’d think this would become a big hit if it was released over on Godless, who knows, maybe Uncle Carl will read this and take my advice.
Finally a book I couldn't put down. This got me out of my two star rating spritz. Like the first book the story kept you reading. It's filthy it's violent and it's full of all that splatterpunk goodness. Must read.
After loving the first instalment of this series, I had high expectations for 'The Slaughtered Lambs,' and it certainly did not disappoint! This extreme horror tale is an absolute treat for fans of the genre. If you are looking for a fast-paced horror tale with an abundance of eye-watering moments, sex violence and torture, you are in for a great time here!
Absolutely loved this book. Was a nice easy read that flowed nicely. Lots of blood an gore, plenty of brutality with some sick and twisted characters. Storyline was really good as we're the characters. There wasn't any particular one I enjoyed the most as each character has there very own style that !are them enjoyable. Loved the poor and how it played out with the added twists at the end. A great enjoyable read. Not for the faint hearted or easily offended otherwise I'd definitely recommend.
THE SLAUGHTERED LAMBS is a solid follow-up to the first Horror House of Perversion, but I definitely left wanting more. I can't quite put my finger on it... maybe the split storytelling of one friend at a time kinda thing... plus... not sure. It takes about 20%+ for things to start happening in the "extreme horror" kind of way, and even then, it's a little tame for Carl John Lee. Things do pick up in about another 30% but then you're nearing the final act of the story. It has some similar themes as the first one, but I just didn't think it was as dark/depraved/nasty violent as expected and compared to some others. That, or I'm just broken inside.
This one was definitely a lot more bloody and gory than the first one, however not enough revenge as I'd like. The book was mostly about the harm the girls go through and not enough torture of the band members.
There was a point in Horror House of Perversion 2: The Slaughtered Lambs where I considered stopping and just not reading any more. I get extremely uncomfortable around a specific act of violence, and the specific type of violence happens repeatedly in Horror House of Perversion 2.
I toughed it out, and was rewarded with a book that gives its protagonists a beautiful arc from horny teenagers to tough-as-nails fighters, with a lot of blood, gore, violence, and sadism along the way.
Those wanting exploitation content will find a ton here as well. CJL excels at extracting shock and discomfort from his readers, and this rings true throughout the majority of this book. Torture, graphic varieties of violence, misery, suffering, grief, the story runs the full gauntlet and then does a quick spin outside of it.
There’s also more attention to detail here, though more so in the carnage and the character descriptions than in the actual settings. You still get a sufficiently good idea of what each area looks like and CJL seems a bit more comfortable at making each setting stand out for its own reasons.
There’s also more tension and suspense here. Many pages leave you unsure of how things will turn out, and who will survive and/or die. The unpredictable nature of the story makes everything exciting, and there are a ton of hair-raising parts leaving the reader on edge.
You’ll just have to read Horror House of Perversion 2: The Slaughtered Lambs to find out for yourself, and if you’re looking for extreme exploitation horror in book form, this is definitely a must read.
I loved the first book so much that I decided to move on to the second book straight away. When I saw it was going to be about a rock band I was even more excited. We’ve all heard about what the rockstar life is like and I wanted to see where Uncle Carl would take this.
Oh boy did he take it to places I didn’t expect. This book went up about 10 levels from the first one. It’s brutal guys. It’s brutal, it’s dark and it’s brilliant. If you’re going to start reading this one you may as well clear a few hours cos the action doesn’t stop and you won’t want to stop reading.
I always enjoy the afterword at the end of an Uncle Carl book too and this one didn’t disappoint. I’ve read all his books that I currently have in my possession so I’m going to need to order the other two asap. Definitely a new favourite author of mine.
3.5. I really enjoyed the first Horror House of Perversion and had high hopes for this one. While not a bad book, it made me feel more sad? The first book has a nice feeling of revenge and vengeance throughout it while in this one revenge comes at the end. Rather than a story of bad people being punished for their heinous actions this is a story of naive young women being brutally abused and killed. This is a well written horror book that takes you on a wild gory ride i just wish i could say that the ending made reading the traumatic parts worth it.
Not meant to be believable but not a bad plot with some gore and violence. However, quite tame compared to some of the other books I've read but sometimes the blood and violence can get a bit boring just for the sake of it. A bit predictable but a good read anyway.
It's almost a shame Uncle Carl didn't consider specialising in romance novels - he has a real talent for creating brief gorgeous connections between women - but then again, we wouldn't be able to enjoy the house of horrors rollercoaster. This had some seriously messed up scenes, even for Uncle Carl, but, as always, I couldn't put it down. Disgustingly great fun!
Carl John Lee is a master of short, punchy, extreme horror. He develops character and plot quickly and keeps the story moving with a healthy dose of dialogue. Entertaining and thoroughly bloody, the novel is just the right length. Worth a read.
I think I like this one better than the first one, I was rooting for Kasey and Beth the whole time, they are the IT GIRLS, Swallow, and the rest of the girls coming after Bobby whatever his last name is, was absolute peak revenge.
I read this in a day and it kept me hooked. I love the well deserved brutal revenge that is delivered. The unwilling 3some scene made me want to vomit but made the ending that much more deserved. May he forever be "pierced" as he was.
4/5🌟 Wow, liked this more than the first one! I know it’s not a direct sequel, but I like how the two relate. So well paced, and it was so easy to feel so much for the characters. This story is exactly why most women would choose a bear over a man 🤷🏾♀️
This book was just written for shock value. While the first book at least had a storyline, the second book felt like the author just wanted to cramp in, all of the most digusting things done to a person he could think of.
also, please read the trigger warnings for this book before reading it. also in case anybody can relate, I've been sexually assaulted multiple times, and reading this book and the first one was incredibly cathartic. be kind to yourself. 🖤
