Connie and Alec's journey was a very different story for me to write - as Connie herself had been through some horrendous experiences, which had impacted upon her to the point where she wasn't as carefree and free spirited as some of my other heroines in past books. So for Connie to heal and get to a point where she could trust a man and give her heart to him, was a big thing, and couldn't happen overnight. Not to mention Alec too, who had been through some extremely tough life experiences, so the two of them together had a lot to deal with alongside of having to find a murderer!
So I can honestly say that balancing writing a romance combined with a heroine who had been abused was a challenge! On one hand I had to be mindful that as an author I have a finite period that the romance arc has to be met within, whilst still being true to the characters past experiences - however this is a fictional story, so I definitely had to be careful not to bog the story down in the angst of Connie’s past experiences - though obviously throughout the book they do effect the storyline and the romance arc.
Also, I have had years of personal experience dealing with victims of domestic abuse in my full time occupation - and can I say that some of the resilience and strength of character that these victims display would surprise and challenge the stereotype that they are always fragile victims for years after the abuse. Some of them have become a great deal stronger through their adversity - and are determined not to let their abuser win over them, so in some instances there are certainly some survivors who do move on and form new relationships in what would generally be considered a quick time frame. So for those who think that forming a relationship so soon after the abuse ends, is not possible, I have seen victims of domestic abuse do exactly that. Certainly not in all cases, but definitely in some.
And as usually, with all of my books, I combine a heavy dash of mystery throughout the story - as I personally prefer reading more than just a straight up romance. So if you want subplots galore with more than just a romance arc as the focus, then my stories are for you!
I do hope you enjoy Connie and Alec's story as they travel through the Scottish Highlands on their quest that turns into something a lot more than either of them had planned!

While there is no trigger warning in the book blurb, there is one at the beginning of the book. Of course, you wouldn’t see that until you’d already bought the book, so, I thought I’d go ahead and mention it here. If you are particularly sensitive/susceptible to reading about those kinds of things, you should be aware that domestic abuse – severe beatings and rape – are talked about in this book. I thought the author handled that subject matter well and got her point across without getting overly graphic. I thought it was all really well done.
One would think that Constance and Alec were opposites and could never be a good match. Alec is a self-made man who works for a living even though he is the second son of an earl and his working is frowned upon. Alec works tirelessly to help, as a doctor, those who have no champions. Constance’s sole goal in life was to marry a title – specifically, a duke. Well – she sure managed to reach that goal. What is missing from that scenario is that, as children, they knew and liked each other very much. Then, Constance (Connie) was sweet and loving and greatly admired Alec. What happened? Well – there are parents – particularly mothers – who seem to be spawns of Satan.
The opening chapter shows what Constance Campbell’s life has been like for the last three years – since she married Duncan Campbell, the Duke of Kilmaine and moved to Scotland to live in Castle Kilmaine. It also shows that she’s stronger than you’d think given the weak-willed way she bent to her mother’s desires rather than her own. She’d certainly have to have some strength to her to endure all she has for the last three years and not be a huddled, whimpering, mass of fears. So, while I didn’t admire the way she acquiesced to her mother’s desires, I did admire that she had managed to endure her brute of a husband and had managed to survive without going stark-raving mad. I liked her very much.
Alec McGuiness is only attending the Duke of Kilmaine’s ball in order to speak with the Duchess of Kilmaine – and he’s only doing that because their mutual friend Sophie asked him to do so. When she finally appears on the stairs, he loses his breath because she is still so very beautiful. Then, when he speaks to her, his sharp physician's eye notices the telltale signs of the abuse to which she is subjected. How can he help her?
When Constance (Connie) awakens the morning following the ball, she feels groggy and disoriented – at least until she sees the lifeless body of her husband sprawled across her bed. He’s been viciously stabbed and there is blood all over the place, including all over Connie. Did she finally snap and murder him? She’s not sure, but she knows her first order of business has to be to get her step-daughter, Amelie, away from the castle to protect her from her uncle Fergus.
Everyone immediately assumes Connie snapped and killed the duke – including Fergus, the duke’s brother. Alec doesn’t believe a word of it and quickly helps Connie escape the castle where she’s been confined. Once they are away from there, everything breaks loose – everybody is chasing Connie and Alec and Connie and Alec are trying to find out who the real murderer is. The answer will surprise you – and perplex you.
One thing that perplexed me was a ‘monthly dowry’. That is one I’ve never heard of, but maybe it was possible. I can’t imagine any circumstances under which a potential groom would agree to that – but – it just doesn’t seem feasible to me and every time I saw it mentioned it just jarred me right out of the story. ** Note -- I asked the author about this and she said it was possible. However, I also asked several other knowledgable British authors about it and they said this would not have been possible.
I also have to add that I thought Connie’s falling for Alec and being able to relax around him and even allow him to touch her came a little too quickly. We all heal at different rates, but Connie's recovery seemed remarkable - to me. ** Note ** I asked the author about this and she said that in her experience, healing of this type could occur quickly.
I enjoyed the read and I hope you will as well. The stories in this series are stand-alone, so you don’t have to have read the other books in the series in order to enjoy this one.

Synopsis:
Constance is unable to leave her abusive husband of two years. Not only because her mother refuses to support her, but also because she will then be leaving her six-year-old stepdaughter to the mercy of a rage-fuelled madman. But one morning she wakes up with Duncan stabbed to death in bed next to her and her with no memory of how or what happened the previous night.
Alec McGuiness is in Kilmaine to attend the Ball hosted by the Duke and Duchess and also to ensure Connie's friend Sophie that the former is doing well. He is a doctor practising in London, a place where Connie, Sophie, and he grew up together. But when he gets wind of the Duke's death and that Connie has been accused of the crime, he knows that he has to help her in any way he can.
Review:
The story starts in May 1857 in Castle Kilmaine in the Highlands where Constance thinks about the various physical abuses she daily suffers at the hand of her husband Duncan Campbell, the Duke of Kilmaine. He is nothing short of a monster who tortures and rapes Connie. But she still lives on for Amelie, the six-year-old daughter of the Duke and his first wife, the latter having allegedly committed suicide.
Doctor Alec is half-English and is the youngest of two sons of a Scottish Earl. Yet, in Connie's eyes, that hadn't been enough. He had been hurt when even after knowing him since she was ten and he was fifteen, she ignored him after her debut, instead preferring to chase after the Duke. Basically chasing after titles and the privileges that it entailed after her mother's behest.
But when the Duke is dead, rather murdered in bed with Constance covered in his blood, she and Alec are in a race against time to prove that she had nothing to do with his murder and that she was framed, most probably by the Duke's younger brother Fergus.
I always wanted to start reading historical romances and it is a pleasure that this one had to be the first after some five hundred romance books that I've already read. That this was as charming as it was suspenseful was an added bonus! Alec is one of the most amazing male protagonists I have read till date and I loved how the author made Connie level-headed and strong instead of a hysterical damsel in distress even after all that she has been through.
I was a bit disappointed when neither Sophie, Alec and Connie's mutual best friend, nor Connie's mother made an appearance anywhere. But the story was a well-paced one, with thrilling twists, murders that kept everyone busy and me as a reader on my toes, to the point where I was literally holding my breath at many instances, eagerly waiting to see where the story was headed next. Everyone had their own interest in getting their hands on Connie. And while Alec is attracted to Connie, he has some deep-seated abandonment issues in his past which prevented him from acting on his attraction. It is kind of a second chance story with a suspenseful theme.
I quite enjoyed reading the Scottish brogue that made an appearance from time to time in the narrative. I'm not sure I can comment on the language until I read more historical stories. The revelation at the end, I so wasn't expecting it. It totally caught me by surprise. Especially the identity of the murderer. The story ends with an epilogue in March 1858 in London, eight months after the incidents that brought Alec and Connie together. It is, of course, a romance with a happy ever after and also some good news to tide over all the bad that happened. But it is also a romance with lots of investigations, suspense, chasing around and running away which will thrill you to no end.
P.S. There is a hint of another romance. I wonder if Alec's older brother Iain and Amelie's aunt Lorelie MacKinnon will get their own story.

She couldn’t allow herself to fall in love with him. She couldn’t give up her newfound and tenuous independence for an emotion that could rip one’s heart out if allowed.

The man was a walking sin just waiting to happen. And his smile simply amplified the effect. It was mesmerizing.

The Sinful Scot by Maddison Michaels is the third book in her Saints and Scoundrels series. This story is an amazing addition to an already wonderful series. I absolutely loved the characters! I loved the chemistry between them. Alec was a strong, honourable, and protective hero who is extremely alluring. Connie is a heroine who has been hurting and afraid for a while. She has a hard time trusting men even though she knows not all men are cut from the same cloth. The heroine is very likeable. The story touches on some sensitive subjects but it is tastefully done. The writing is fantastic and has a mystery and suspense element to it that completely sucks you in. It’s not predictable and it’s easy to follow. Just a wonderful story all the way around.

Maddison Michaels is going on my auto buy list. This is another great story. Connie and Alec know each other from childhood but have not seen each other in years. Connie has become a Duchess to a horrible Duke who beats and rapes her all the time. Alec has become a doctor but is estranged from his family. Connie awakens one morning to find her husband dead in her bed and her brother in law accusing Connie of his murder. Alec helps her escape and they go on the run to clear her name. On the way they fall in love and heal each other.
This was good story. There were incorrect forms of address which will hopefully be fixed before it’s published.

Before I get into the review, I want to give a content warning for the book. The book depicts a survivor of domestic violence, and may be tough for some readers.
I really enjoyed this book! I loved how Alex quickly got over any anger he might have had with Connie over childhood squabbles when he realized she needed help. Alex comes in preparing to dislike Connie, but his compassion quickly overtakes his annoyance. The book both has a good mystery and a great romance! Connie's abusive husband died mysteriously at the beginning of the book, and Connie is blamed. She knows she didn't do it, but is worried that the worst will happen if she and Alex can't find the real culprit. Connie had clearly suffered during her marriage, and I enjoyed watching her heal and come into her own. Connie went from scared of the world, to ready to conquer it. The secondary mystery plot is really strong in this book, which I really appreciate. Solid plots alongside the romance are always fun.

Wow, what a story! I just finished reading "The Sinful Scot" and my first thought is "wow, this author sure knows how to write"!!! I realize that some readers might not like that the heroine is a physically abused wife at the start but if you give it a chance, the story really evolves and not only do you get passion and caring, you also get a murder mystery!! This is so well written, I was actually shocked when it's revealed who the murderer is, I never suspected that person!
Connie is a physically abused wife and when her husband is found murdered in her bed, she is accused of his murder and ends up on the run with the help of a longtime friend, Alec. I loved how gentle he was with her and could show her that most men were not like her husband. There are many twists and turns in this story that will keep you on your toes. Be prepared to not want to put the book down once you've started reading it!!

Highlander regency romance thriller!
My sympathies certainly were with the abused duchess Constance Campbell, the Duchess of Kilmaine. Married to a vile Duke who used her as a punching bag, his arousel dependent upon inflicting pain.
When Constance awakes to find herself covered blood next to her husband who's been stabbed to death, she wonders if she's been the perpetrator.
So begins the journey for Connie to prove her innocence dogged by the law, her brother-in-law, and other mysterious forces. Her flight is engineered by her childhood friend Dr. Alec McGuiness.
Alec, betrayed in love (and that's a whole 'nother story) is a doctor. His sister has asked him to see how her friend is faring as they've lost touch. He attends the Duke's Ball and is not happy by what he intuits, and what he glimpses.
The path to proving Connie's innocence uncovers further dark dealings and evidence of depraved appetites having turned to murder. As death mysteriously follows Alec and Connie's escape, the novel becomes more of thriller than a romance.
I must admit that given Connie's brutalizations by the Duke her relations with Alec seemed a bit sudden to my mind, but Michaels seems to have tried to mitigate that through Connie's determination and Alec's empathy.
I was totally surprised by the ending. Galvanized by my enjoyment of The Sinful Scot, I find myself itching to read the rest of this series (that if this book is anything to judge the test of the series by). Michaels presents a rather different take in the Highlander / Regency romance genre.

This is a beautiful love story that revolves around the murder of a Duke and numerous other people. Constance has been framed for the murder of her husband and Alec is helping her find proof of her innocence while keeping her safe at the same time. People are not who they appear to be and the murderer is finally uncovered but not before lives are lost. After being betrayed by the people he loved most, Alec has vowed to never again trust another woman with his heart. There is a HEA for Constance and Alec but a lot happens first. The book is full of danger, numerous murders, hidden agendas and a love story that is beautifully written. I enjoyed the story and the mystery and would highly recommend it as a great read.

I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley. The Sinful Scot by Maddison Michaels is the first book I have read by this author, and she had me hooked from the very beginning of the story.
Constance and Alec McGuiness have known each other for a while, but circumstances lead them to escape from the law and determine the truth behind the murder of the Duke, Constance' husband. There is intrigue in this story, as well as a whodunnit aspect, but most importantly, there is the budding romance between the hero and heroine. A spectacular read!

The Sinful Scot is an outstanding historical romance by Maddison Michaels. I think this is my first book by this author, but wow, it won't be the last. Ms. Michaels has given readers a well-written book furnished with a stellar cast of characters. Constance tried to make her mother happy by marrying a duke. Unfortunately, he was an abusive, evil duke...until Constance woke up next to a dead duke. Alec arrived at the Duke's ball the night before he was murdered, only because he promised his friend he would check on Constance. Alec helps her escape after Constance's brother-in-law claims she killed the duke. Constance and Alec's story is packed with drama, humor, action, spice and suspense. I enjoyed every page of this book and look forward to reading more from Maddison Michaels in the future. The Sinful Scot is book 3 of the Saints & Scoundrels Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

This one is emotional with so much happening there are issues about domestic abuse but also another gorgeous romance, MS Michaels has taken us on a journey that is action packed, as we get to see the gorgeous and caring Doctor Alec McGuiness find the love of his life in Constance Campbell, the Duchess of Kilmaine, there is a lot of mayhem before they get to their HEA but it is a journey that I truly enjoyed.
Constance grew up wanting to marry a Duke, she was sure that this would be the life for her and when she meets Duncan, The Duke of Kilmaine, and becomes his Duchess, her life is turned upside down he is a cruel beast and she hides behind a wall playing the perfect duchess, when she meets her old friend Alec at a ball her mind is taken back to another time in her life.
Alec is back in Scotland and attends a ball to check up on his old friend Connie and even though she would have nothing to do with him years before she still affects him enough to feel that something is not right with her life. When her husband is found murdered in their bed he helps her escape as she is accused of his murder, he must do what he can to protect her and find out who has set her up, and keep his feelings for her under control because love and marriage will never be for Alec after the people he has loved before have left him.

This was a painfully good read—painful because of the vicious subject matter; good because of the excellent writing and romance. TW are definitely needed before reading, but this was such a lovely book of starting over.

This book is not to be missed. Talk about a book that keeps you on your toes. Talk about villains. We have several. Her main characters mother, her husband, her brother-in-law. Connie’s life is filled with Villains. She also has a hero. Alex. Who is had his own life shattering incidents. And the whodunit part of this is fabulous. It keeps you guessing right to the end. And I love an extended epilogue. Especially one it alludes to possibly another book. I will be following this author to see if we can have a follow up. This is a book that you will love

Through it all Alec stands by Connie and helps her heal from not only the physical injuries, but also the mental and emotional trauma she has endured the last two years. Slowly, the girl he once knew starts to emerge and the heart he thought had long ago closed, begins to open.
I thought this was a very gripping read, the mystery portion of this book was amazing and the villain’s true identity came as a real surprise to me – I loved it! The romance was a little understated and frankly dull, but the heroine was a victim of abuse and I think the romance reflected that and was considerate to Connie’s experiences and the slow, understated burn was probably an accurate portrayal. I was disappointed that three books in this author is still butchering nobility titles and formal address, but if you can ignore that (then you are a better person than I am) the story itself is very good and the mystery is excellent. This is the third book in the series, but it can definitely be read as a stand-alone title.

The first chapters of this book hurt... like really, really, really hurt my heart!! I felt so bad for Connie and the abuse that she had to endure in the hands of her husband. But she was such a magnificent heroine... her inner strength and determination to push through and survive day after day was just amazing.
Alec was an absolutely delicious hero, coming to Connie’s aid when she needed him the most. He totally knew when to comfort her and when to give her space. And I love that he kept resisting his attraction to her. The hero that protests love too much... fall the hardest.
I love Maddison Michaels and her writing style. She kept me at the edge of my seat with all the intrigue, but she didn’t lose sight of the fact that this was a romance book. She kept the delicious tension between Alec and Connie front and center. But I did gasp when she revealed who the killer was... I usually guess but, I was so engrossed in the story that it unfolded and surprised me!! Good job, Maddison Michaels!!
This is the 3rd book in the Saints and Scoundrels series! Can’t wait for Iain (Alec’s brother) and Lorelei’s story.

A story that runs a gamut of emotions that tore at my heart from the first page as I had a strong visual and physical image of Connie in my mind. Maddison Michaels has an amazing gift with her pen that bring her characters alive and invest the reader in suspense, a mystery and a slow building romance that is beyond compare.
A mask of perfection. That is what she wore when she was forced to present herself at the ball her husband was hosting. The Duke. The Monster behind the smile. How fooled she had been, but at her mother's insistence she was to marry a title and endure.
Dr Alex McGuiness was reluctantly attending the ball due to the insistence of his sister Sophie, Connie's best friend. Alex had known her since she was young and sweet. But all that changed with her debut when it seemed all she cared about was her appearance and catching a Duke.
When he finally did see her, he knew something was wrong and figured it out. But she would not confide in him.
But everything changed the next morning when Connie woke up beside her husband who had been murdered. Blood everywhere. She remembered nothing....

This was a very engaging read right from the beginning. Not only was there romance but also an intriguing mystery. Connie has suffered abuse during her marriage and now she stands accused of murdering her husband. She has help from an old acquaintance, Dr. Alec MacGuiness. Alec has also had heartbreaking experiences in his past and has sworn never to love again. They work together to try and prove Connie’s innocence and unmask the true killer. Alec also has problems with his father and brother that he needs to work through. Connie will need to draw on her inner strength to overcome all her trials. I certainly didn’t work out who was the murderer. I enjoyed Alec’s and Connie’s growing relationship but could they commit to each other given their experiences? There seemed to be a love /hate relationship between Alex’s brother, Iain and the formidable Lady Lorelie MacKinnon and I would love to read their story. This story is what I imagine a penny dreadful would read like – murder, mayhem, mystery, villains and shocking conclusions. The mystery was really good and Ms. Michaels throws in a lot of red herrings. Even though I figured it out close to the end but was only partially correct, the mystery was so good. The story was interspersed with the romance between Alec and Connie. Two great characters. Connie is a fighter and a survivor. Her character is so strong. I loved her. And the other characters are so well written. I want more of this type of storyline. I am hoping the next between is about an ornery brother and his arch nemesis.

Being a naive, young debutante, with a ruthless mother only after the best title, she found herself trapped in a hell of a marriage where abuse was a daily ritual. She has no one in her escape this life and just tries to survive, cherishing the days her husband leaves town or becomes inebriated and passes out.
Alec has become a respected doctor and due to his mutual friendships, he would like to speak the Connie and relay her wellbeing. However, when he finds her at Duke Kilmaine's ball, he can see past her cold facade and see the bruises underneath. She tries to push him away to protect him, but he perseveres and provides his protection.
Soon they are both on the run and only have each other. The mystery and relationship progress along with plenty of action happening too.
This is so not my thing, and that is because it's a total murder mystery. I did find it intriguing the first 30% and then when the relationship took second to the ever evolving murder plot, I started to lose more interest. It's not bad, or poorly written, and I think if you love some mystery, or solving a murder mixed with romance this would be a great choice. It deals with serious issues without being overly graphic. But it's definitely not a warm and fuzzy romance, but it falls short of maybe Kerrigan Byrne's writing. Its not that I need a warm and fuzzy romance though, in fact I much prefer an angsty, gritty, graphic novel, but that tension and relationship needs to be carried strongly through the book and I just didn't feel that here in this novel. I did think with everything the heroine had experienced, she moved into a new relationship fairly fast, yet it also felt not soon enough within the book to build a good tension (to me). Again this is just because so much was spent on the developing plot. It did keep me guessing, which was good. I also didn't get quite the character depth I wanted, but I didn't dislike either character.
I would definitely try this author again though, if I found one that was a bit more focused on the romance and relationship building.

Soon they are both on the run and only have each other. The mystery and relationship progress along with plenty of action happening too.
This is so not my thing, and that is because it's a total murder mystery. I did find it intriguing the first 30% and then when the relationship took second to the ever evolving murder plot, I started to lose more interest. It's not bad, or poorly written, and I think if you love some mystery, or solving a murder mixed with romance this would be a great choice. It deals with serious issues without being overly graphic. But it's definitely not a warm and fuzzy romance, but it falls short of maybe Kerrigan Byrne's writing. Its not that I need a warm and fuzzy romance though, in fact I much prefer an angsty, gritty, graphic novel, but that tension and relationship needs to be carried strongly through the book and I just didn't feel that here in this novel. I did think with everything the heroine had experienced, she moved into a new relationship fairly fast, yet it also felt not soon enough within the book to build a good tension (to me). Again this is just because so much was spent on the developing plot. It did keep me guessing, which was good. I also didn't get quite the character depth I wanted, but I didn't dislike either character.
I would definitely try this author again though, if I found one that was a bit more focused on the romance and relationship building.
I give 3 stars.

This is my first book by the author. I was impressed by her writing style. The story was fast paced with elements of intrigue and romance. Constance was a strong woman. After enduring so much she really blossomed with Alex. Alex was a very likeable hero. It was fun to see their budding romance. They were always attracted to each other but circumstances drifted then apart. Heir interactions were very entertaining. Would love to read the next book in this series

For his part, Alec remembers all too well the snobbish, catty girl Connie used to be and has no wish to have his heart broken again as it was when he was betrayed by the girl he'd once hoped to marry. With more secrets coming out about Connie's late husband, her feelings for Alec may be a moot point.
As a survivor of severe domestic abuse, Connie had a lot of issues to deal with. Alec also had trust issues after having his heart broken by both his parents and the girl he'd hoped to marry. Connie was rather nasty to Alec when they were younger, as she was unabashedly focused on marrying a title, but despite this Alec cannot abandon his childhood friend when she's in such dire straits. Connie starts to come into her own without her domineering mother or late husband getting in the way and I liked that it is she who pursues a deeper relationship with Alec and it is Alec who pulls away.
There were lots of characters in this one and at times I struggled to keep straight who was who and what their motivations were. There were also some issues with incorrect forms of address, some awkward phrasing and a huge overuse of the word darn in particular, but this is just down to my pet peeves and will likely be fixed in final edits. This story had plenty of intrigue, which I liked, but somehow the story still seemed to drag in places, especially between Alec and Connie. Many of Connie's inner monologues became rather repetitive to me, which is probably why I perceived a lag in the story, and all the descriptions of her great beauty got a bit old after awhile. Nonetheless, the mystery was good and I really did enjoy the story.

What a wonderful read this was. I very much enjoyed Dr Alec and Connie’s romance, and found myself cheering on Connie as she reclaimed her inner strength that a terrible marriage had nearly destroyed. And Alec, oh my, what a hunk. This book was an excellent additional to Ms Michaels Saints and Scoundrels series, and dealt with some really relevant issues that at the time were generally hushed up. I imagine it would have been difficult balancing a romance with a heroine that had been physically abused - but Ms Michaels did it deftly. I’m already looking forward to what I hope is Lorelie and Ian’s story for book 4... Thanks to the publisher for an arc copy in exchange for an honest review.

I listened to this amazing book on Audible and it's narrated by the wonderfully talented Justine Eyre!!
This is such a great storyline, it has murder, mystery and romance. It also touches on physical abuse by a spouse, which is never okay. But, the way it was written n this story went well with the plot.
Constance Campbell is the Duchess of Kilmeade and wakes up to find herself a widow. Connie as she is known by is an English beauty, she comes from dysfunctional parents.
Dr. Alec McGuinness is visiting Connie to check on her welfare, when he finds himself helping her escape the Kilmeade estate.
Alec McGuinness is the second of an Earl, Alec practices medicine in London, and has known her for years.
This is a really well written murder, mystery with a who done it?! It has so many characters, the story line flowed so well throughout the book. I couldn't stop listening to it. Such an addictive book with so much action.
And, Alec Mc Guinness, omg, he is gorgeous, masculine and attracted to Connie, and the attraction is mutual. I really loved this book, and I always enjoy epilogues, this one was such a good one =)

The Sinful Scot featured dr. Alec McGuinness who'm we have met before in the other books. The story also introduced us to a new character: Constance Campbell, the Duchess of Kilmaine. Married to an abusive husband, Constance is in fear every moment of her life, scared that she'll say or do the wrong thing that might set him off. Until one day she wakes up next to her husband who's covered in blood with a knife shoved into his chest. Did she finally snap and killer her husband? Or was there someone else who wanted him dead? Luckily she has Alec McGuinness, an old friend coming to her rescue and going on the run with her to try and find out who is behind the murder.
This book had a little bit of a more heavy topic, considering the abuse that Connie has been going through for the last few years since she got married. And in my opinion Maddison Michaels wrote this very well and realistic. I also loved Connie and Alec's chemistry together. They had somewhat of a past together and it clearly showed in their interactions, which had sparks flying! They may even be my favorite couple out of all three books. I enjoyed reading about them so much!

I was really hooked by the characters and the story that was both romantic and thrilling at the same time. Maddison Michaels has definitely become a new favorite historical romance author of mine.
