Ether. It revolutionized human technology. Made faster than light travel possible. With this new form of energy, people expanded beyond Earth to distant stars in other galaxies across the cosmos. After years of conflicts, a rebellion, and countless skirmishes, the Human Confederacy is a thriving government, a beacon of civilization.
Until an ether facility is destroyed out of the blue with no one taking credit for the destruction. Enter the Morrigan, a state of the art ship with a brilliant but inexperienced crew. Their captain Noah Markel is no stranger to battle and he believes this may not be as simple as an act of terrorism but rather an incursion. Their first contact with an alien race. One bent on crippling human space travel in preparation for something far worse than a border dispute.

This was a fantastic series. Lots of non-stop action. Interesting characters and were well developed and well written. The story is about the events leading up to an all out alien invasion and humanity must come together to stop it or be annihilated. One of humanities secret weapons are machines called war dogs. They are machines with a human brain taken from soldiers who have died. Usually high ranking officers. This premise reminded me of the dreadnaughts from Warhammer 40k. Unfortunately the war dogs seem to have a problem, that they eventually go insane killing everyone around them regardless of friend or foe. The series ended well for the humans and aliens alike. The outcome for the war dogs was inevitable but still sad. Overall I really enjoyed this series and I highly recommend it.
Walker writes solid military sci-fi. This series has got everything you want; fighting aliens, cool technology, one ship fighting against impossible odds. However, he wants to tell a larger space opera, which means LOTS of characters. You need bridge staff, engineers, Marines, pilots... as a result, you don't get a real good development on most of them. So you might understand four or five characters, but the rest are just names, and if you're lucky, a basic personality. The plot is decent, the enemies are enjoyable and have faces, but a lot of stuff happens in ten short books. Enjoy the ride.
If you can follow a complicated space battle or two on the page you're going to love this because there's loads of them. A splendid space soap opera Good stereo typical good guys and bad guys; betrayals and twists and cool tech and weapons. This held my attention through all ten books/episodes
If you can get through the poor hyphenation, then this is one of the best sci-fi stories I’ve ever read. Literally 10 books in five days. The action is nonstop and the character interactions are believable and felt real. I highly recommend this series to everyone.
Aliens pirates big business and a crazy man with dreams of controlling the known universe, for their own good of course. Lots of moving pieces and they all come together .great story.
Good characters, decent plot. But frankly, the story could have been told in fewer pages and dragged for me in a couple of places. But, I doubt I could do better. (smile)
Quite the expansive space opera with many threads although at the end most were tied up pretty well. I recommend you read it, and see whether or not you can find the two loose threads that were never ever handled.
Read book 1, no context to Confederacy, flat characters, scant knowledge of infantry tactics, no information on weapons or ship capabilities, cartoonish. Can't believe the ratings at all.
John Walker was one of the first authors who's stories opened a new world of great science fiction adventure books for me. Anything John writes is well worth reading. Thanks again John, and keep up the imaginative and engrossing storytelling.
Great story line and series. Loved the characters and the interactions. The political atmosphere though light kept you coming back for more. The action was well thought out .
Great story line and loved the characters. The author did a good job keeping the action moving and character interaction and development was spot on. Highly recommend reading the series!
The heroics are off the chain and the characters drive all that. The new and interesting drama gives everyone room for all the adventures. Love still manages to bloom and everyone wins(except the bad psycho guy).
The books need proof reading there are a few mistakes with character names and it looks like the AI did not translate words to text correctly in several places. Good story, likable characters thoroughly enjoyable.
The series is long yet moves enough to stay entertaining. There are plenty of unrealistic aspects but they don’t detract. John Walker is becoming a favorite.
