There's something irresistibly compelling about the idea of a reluctant superhero, someone for whom special powers and the weight of responsibility are a burden. For Pizazz, being aged just nine and three-quarters means she also has to juggle the inconvenience of school, along with a complicated homelife. Book 5 of Sophy Henn's series is another high octane adventure crammed into a small form factor book, and it's perfect for little hands and big imaginations.

Itching to burst out of its Manga-esque cover are 200+ pages of jazzy typefaces, pop art style illustrations, comic panels, and those gorgeous inverted monochrome chapter headers. It's a visual feast, and I feel sure if I was 30 years younger, I'd be calling it a whole mood. But I'm not, so I can't.

In this book, Pizazz decides to explore her dark side, and there are some genuine laugh-out-loud moments along the way. The sheer inventiveness and attention to detail on show here make this a very worthy successor to Demons, Perfector, and the New Kid. This is a series that shows no signs of losing its momentum, and I can't wait for book 6.

More simple heartwarming fun about the importance of being true to yourself but understanding it’s ok to mess up sometimes
