They thought things would get easier. They were wrong.
For Callie, Phil and the others, life is one long battle from dawn ’til dusk. Despite this, the settlement has flourished and gone from strength to strength. Until now.
What lurks on the horizon is a test, the likes of which they could never have imagined. New threats, new challenges and the new day could spell the end of all their hopes.
Since leaving the bunker, they’ve faced unfathomable hardships and terrifying enemies, but nothing could have prepared them for this.
I was born and raised in Leeds, West Yorkshire. Wanting to escape life in a big city and concentrate more on working to live than living to work, I moved to the Outer Hebrides in the north-west of Scotland in 2004 and I have lived there ever since with my wife and dogs.
I write post-apocalyptic, sci-fi, dystopian and horror fiction. I’ve released fifty one books across six different series - Safe Haven, The End of Everything, Unsafe, Relentless, The Burning Tree and Scares in Scotland.
In addition, most of my titles are now available as audiobooks narrated by Kim Bretton, so if you’re one of the many people who struggle to find the time to read, you can listen on the go.

I listened to the omnibus of books one through five, and since I just burned straight through, I don't remember where one book ended and the next began. So, this review is for the first five books. I'll post it on all five.
This series wasn't bad. The dystopia that formed in the bunker was depressingly realistic, as was the amount of strife and corruption in/between the groups outside it. All in all, the series was engaging enough for me to listen to five books, which is saying something, but there were a few issues.
There were too many inspiring speeches, for one. I can get behind one or two of these, but there were points where it felt like one character or another was making an inspiring speech every chapter, and that's just too much for me.
There were also too many occasions of characters being staunchly opposed to a thing that they were advocating for on a larger scale in a prior chapter/book, suddenly arguing tooth and nail against it, only to give in after their own prior arguments were laid out for them and basically (grudgingly) saying, "I suppose you've got a point." People don't typically backtrack on principals they're willing to risk death for just a few days later. People also don't give in to logic so easily when their emotions are high enough for them to start vicious name calling or outright getting violent. The fact that people who were okay starting a settlement with 18,000 people were then convinced it was impossible to do so with such an enormous number as 3,500 people irked me.
The author clearly put some time into researching a few plants that most people consider weeds but are actually edible, which I appreciate. I wish there had been routine mention of more of them than seaweed and dandelions, but it was still nice to see foraging considered a viable dietary supplement. The evaporation pools for salt was a really good addition too.
There were a few things that Phil Trainer (the farming/plant expert in the books) would've known that weren't mentioned, like the acidifying effect granite has on the soil near any large natural sources of granite and the potential use of lime to counteract/neutralize it, but I'm aware I'm getting way too picky expecting that to have been in there, even if Trainer is an expert. The only reason I know that is from watching a bunch of docuseries about farming through the ages, and I know that's not something most people do. Lol.
I find myself at a loss for words when I begin to review one of Christopher Artinian's books. I have trouble finding enough superlatives to convey how I feel!
Callie, Phil and the other survivors of Salvation are working hard to try to grow crops and build shelters for their group. However, they are not expecting to have an influx of other survivors show up. And, the ones who come into their settlement are not from a background that any of them wants to ever see again, much less learn to live with!
This book is full of tension and action, with attacks from "ferals", kidnappings, murders and threats of war. I especially loved Phil's background story and how it worked into this book. I was left an emotional wreck at times and had to keep reading to see what else would befall these characters who are more like friends.
The writing is brilliant and listening to Kim Bretton's narration really brings it all to life. Her voices for the different characters are perfect and I loved the musical interludes that broke up the different sections. I will be anxiously awaiting the next installment of this series because I just know that the author is going to throw some wrenches into the story again!
There is no stopping him ! The trilogy became a series.
The saying opioid for the masses applies for this and all of the authors books !!!
As much as I hated the burning tree trilogy over with, it was understood and accepted. Now that the author Christopher Artinian wrote an awesome continuation with Anarchy he really got me mad because of having to wait for more to be written and narrated and there is no joy in that . The problem is that Christopher Artinian endless imagination is so beautiful if not as close to perfection and the way he gets it all onto paper ( including emotions ) is unbelievable, and Anarchy is as amazing as the first three leaving you wanting more !
As usual Kim Bretton narrated perfectly every character like no other could, creating another beautiful audiobook.
Without a doubt, My full recommendations for all !
Exciting and Entertaining! This is the fourth book of The Burning Tree Series. Each of them has been terrific, and this was no exception.
Callie, a sixteen-year-old girl holds the community together and is the main protagonist. Phil, the brains behind the new settlement. Susan, Callie’s mother, changed for the better after the apocalyptic experience that altered them all.
I’ve never read a book with so many characters. It should have been confusing but wasn’t in the least. In fact, I felt part of the community as I lived every moment with them.
I thoroughly enjoyed Anarchy. It tells the story of human endurance and all its flaws. The good, the bad, and everything in between. It keeps you on the edge of the seat throughout as you really hope they make it.
Hopefully, there will be another book because I feel there is a whole lot more to tell as the fight for survival continues.
All I can say is this series keeps on getting better. I was fortunate enough to start it when the 4th book was set for pre-order, so I didn’t have to wait long. But now I will for the next one. Nooooo!
I’ve always had my issues with Callie as she’s only 16, but they treat her like she’s so special. Maybe she is, but it’s also everyone else around her that makes the difference. And Christopher is starting to develop the supporting characters more. Like her mom, Susan. Kudos to her for getting over her self-pity and addiction, and leading the group in areas they hadn’t thought of.
Phil is another character I have a strong attachment to. But what he and his wife endured at the end, how much will that change him? Will his rediscovered dark nature effect the group? I want to know!
Christopher has a handle on the nastier side of human nature. It broke my heart, but I could see it happening, when certain factions just didn’t want to change for the betterment of everyone. They could only see how they had been mistreated and refused to accept how they had been brainwashed by the ruling class of Salvation.
When I think back to the other books in the series, it’s hard to imagine that they have all taken place within a matter of a month or two. This is an action-packed, fast-paced series and it’s hard to put them down until the very end. However, they are not standalones. If you don’t start with Salvation, you’d be hard pressed to see the full dynamics of the story.
If you love coming-of-age, dystopian/post-apocalyptic tales, you need to read this series. I give Anarchy 5-stars.
AMAZING. Action packed, nail biting, hold onto your seat page turner.
I don’t usually leave reviews as I never feel that I have the words to adequately express what I’m feeling. But this book. This books deserves the effort. So here goes! Anarchy The absolute best title for this book. The ups and downs, twists and turn, had me on the edge of my seat for the entire read. I got to the end and was like Noooooooooooo! It can’t be? I’m done with it already??? It was so good, i tried to slow read but I just couldn’t. Every page just flew by. Minutes turned into hours and now it’s over, for now. Chris, I’m going to need the next book stat. Absolutely EXCELLENT!! Start with the first one, Salvation. You will NOT be disappointed!!
This series and these characters are as amazing as any of the ones in his EOE/Safe haven series. I think I’ve devoured everything by Artinian and I am always hungry for more. It’s a good thing he puts out books quickly. (& don’t worry that doesn’t mean they are just thrown together) I continue to be amazed at how wonderful his stories are. I love every single character, even the evil ones. I want all of them turned in to TV series. They are certainly 10x’s better than half the stuff out now! This is the story of survival but the heart is the friendships and family of the characters. You will never go wrong with one of his series. Also Kim Bretton is one of the best narrators
Yet again Artinian has written a character driven, emotionally charged, edge of your seat tale of the fight for survival against bleak looking odds. Now added to the mix are escaped Salvation Guards with thousands of others joining our group already struggling in their quest to survive. Can the past be forgotten and forgiven, can they all work together and will Buck and the other higher ups in Salvation let this betrayal and lose of so many workers go? These are questions that I'm sure will be answered in future books. Loving some of the new characters so far.
Audiobook: This series just gets better and better with each book in the series. Once I started the audiobook for this 4th book in "The Burning Tree" series, I had to listen until the end. The story was a rollercoaster ride from one twist to another. Just when one obstacle was dealt with, another obstacle appeared. I can't wait for the next book in the series. Kim Bretton's narration skills were incredible as her performance captured my attention and immersed me into the story. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.
As usual Christopher Artinian fails to disappoint with this wonderful continuation of this series. How would you react if the world came to an end and the only thing that saved you was blind luck? That is basically what happened to some of the people in level three. Now, they have a chance at a new start, but it will not be easy.
Great book series from Christopher Artinian!! I’ve read some of his other series too and they don’t disappoint! If you enjoy end of the world, survival, dystopian books then this is a must read! Also check out his Safe Haven series and The End of Everything series…those have zombies!!
Tensions run high as the settlement fights to stay alive Realistic scenario, fantastic characters and you might even learn a thing or two Kim’s narration in production is flawless as always I can’t recommend Chris’s work enough 5stars I received a free review audiobook and voluntarily left this review
What a brilliant Author! Mr Artinian has this amazing ability to put his thoughts on paper and give us these wonderful stories where we are transported into another world. Anarchy is another suspenseful and exciting story in The Burning Tree series and I'm so looking forward to reading more.
This story had it all that we have come to expect from the author’s series. It was a fast pace thrill ride from start to finish. There were surprises left and right. Can’t wait until the next book. Get the books and leave your reviews.
Another rollercoaster of a ride from start to finish. Twists and turns and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Thought provoking and very hard to put down once you’ve started. Another great series thanks Chris 👍
wow this book was amazing, a true page turner from start to finish. Right form the first chapter I was hooked, full of edge of your seat scenarios that really left you guessing to the very end. Cannot wait to continue on the journey. Fantastic series and a must read.
Wow. I hope it’s not the end. Lots more going on, more people joining our group of escapees from salvation. All wanting freedom and fresh living. Or are there some who don’t. Brilliant read, page turning excitement.
This episode of the story is so exciting. There is action, terror, and betrayal. The characters endure much this time including fear and distrust of each other. There are also worries about the future. I really hope that there is more to come in this story.
Read all the series one after another. Some serious late night's as you become invested in the characters.usual Christopher quality ......I just need the next one now 😀
Wow,just wow! Chris it just keeps coming! Phil is a total surprise and what a beast! It seems like more of salvation is at the "farm" than at the bunker! Carry on Carry on!
I chooses full stars because this series of books are about the best iv ever read I hope there is another book to follow i would be the first to get it
Another spell bound winner by Christopher, Callie is keeping everything real and exciting, but what will the ferials do if anything, well ......keep reading to find out there's more excitement to be had.
I was looking forward to reading this and it didn’t disappoint, had me on the edge of my seat many times, love reading about how the group evolves (Callie especially) there are always obstacles to over come. Had my stomach turn a few times with nerves, awesome series…. A must read by my favourite author, Christopher don’t make us wait to long to find out how the group do on their proposed trip.
