Review:

👉Talking about the title of the book, the title of the book is really so interesting to read.

👉The cover is appealing and attractive as well.Writing style is appreciable .This is a dark fantasy that takes on a journey with princess Naomi. Naomi is trying to escape her life in the palace due to her father not being around, and her mother being very abusive towards her. Naomi ends up figuring out family secrets that she never knew throughout her time with the dragons. I recommend that you read this book if you like dragons, and action in books

Princess Naomi is wanting to escape the clutches of her evil mother, Queen Miranda. Ez, a dragon warrior, also hates the Queen. So the two of them plan their escape.

This was a good story and I was shocked to find out that Emilia wrote it when she was 10 years old. She created a whole world from nothing and some interesting characters within it. Of course there were dragons and I'm really enjoying books involving dragons at the moment.

It was good to see how the friendship developed between Naomi and Ez, when it was so very fraught at the beginning and only the hatred for the Queen united them.

"𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐭."

In the Kingdom of Valaztein, there lives a young princess. She is very ambitious, with many hopes and dreams.
On the opposite side, there lives a changeling. He is part of the underground rebel changeling Facility.

The young princess tried to escape her castle many times, but the attempts were in vain. Until their paths cross..

"𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮. 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚 𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬. 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐡𝐨𝐩𝐞."

The two will have to fight together, for this is their last chance to overthrow queen Miranda's cruel reign and save the world.
Here you will find mysteries, betrayals & lots of broken hearts.

"𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐥𝐬 𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐦, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐨 𝐛𝐥𝐮𝐞, 𝐭𝐰𝐨 𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐦 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞, 𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲'𝐫𝐞 𝐦𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲'𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮. 𝐑𝐞𝐝 𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐠𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐧, 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐮𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐟𝐮𝐧. 𝐁𝐨𝐭𝐡 𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐦 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥, 𝐛𝐨𝐭𝐡 𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐞.'𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐈 𝐚𝐦 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐨 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮."

So first things first, I just wanted to say how shocked I was to find out that the author was only 10yo when she wrote this book, talk about talent!(you have a very bright future ahead of you).
And although I do think this book is more suitable for young readers/early teens, I still really enjoyed it.

It was a nice and quick read, with a great plot. There were lots of twists and turns to keep the reader busy, and it even has dragons!?? (Just imagine my joy when I found out ^^).

I also really liked that towards the end we got a little romance going on between Naomi & Ez and between the monkeys (we ofcourse can not forget about out little lovebirds).

"𝐒𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐭, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐥𝐥, 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐝."

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It was quick paced, good plot, likeable characters and dragons ☺︎︎

"𝐖𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬; 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐝, 𝐰𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭. 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐨𝐩𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐬."

I got this book from the author herself for an honest review. This book hooked me from start to finish. It was full of action, and an incredible storyline. The writing was excellent with strong characters. This book is about courage. Love, forgiveness, found family, and finding out who you really are. It gives off major fairytale vibes. You are left with a cliffhanger that you cannot wait to find out what happens next. I cannot wait to read the next book. If you want a fantasy read this is for you!

Crown of Scales and Wonder, the title absolutely makes sense to me as a reader as the whole plot revolves around teen princess Naomi, the daughter of Queen Miranda and King Nicholae Elistaire, the question begins and ends with the fact if Naomi is going to wear the beautiful crown of scales and wonder or wear the crown of blood and hatred like her mother?

This is one of the most interesting books I've came across, the characters: Naomi and Ez, both the main characters have their own backstories, struggles and motivation throughout the book which made their character development so satisfying for me to read. The other characters had their own part to play, fleshing out the whole storyline as the story progressed. As for King Nicholae Elistaire and Queen Miranda they had their own heartbreaking moments and story that in turn affected Ez's and Naomi's present, with the lives of other changelings, the children of dragons and humans. Miko was such an adorable character brought into limelight by the author that was hard to ignore him, even he plays a major part in the story and have whole lot of scenes dedicated to him which I enjoyed reading!

As for the world building part of the book, there were battles and magical history weaved in the book between humans and dragons that was going on for years, magic by enchantress such black magic and dark magic with ancient prophecies and oaths were introduced in the book which made me intrigued to continue the story. There were those plot twists I really didn't see coming nor I predicted will happen in the book itself. There was my favourite trope, enemies to lovers romance I could say it was well executed as a plot point as in the beginning of Ez's and Naomi's relationship begun with hatred at first glance, then slowly they bonded over their past lives and struggles and at last they fell in love with each other, which was quite realistically written for me. The real life themes what the thirst of revenge can do, oppression upon the others which forced them to hide, the pain and cost of betrayal and lost of lives is brilliantly portrayed through the storylines. I'd say for author's writing style, the writing was easy to read, flowed freely with no info dump and unnecessary descriptions of things in the book made me so invested in the book itself. I'd applaud the author for having such an amazing creativity and passion for building the world and backstory of characters in the book as a young kid!

The book will hook you right from the first page and you'll end up turning pages of this short and satisfying novel. Eagerly waiting for the next installment and I'm hopeful to read more of Ez and Naomi's story. Thanks to the author for reaching out to me with the review copy of the book, I'm so glad I read it and had the chance to review it here!

Wow! Such a wonderful, empowering, unique story with themes of love, hope, darkness, and fighting for what you belive is right and true!
I love Naomi-she's such a great, strong female character with unique strengths and weaknesses that make her very relatable! Ez is great male lead, and his Changling powers add to his mystique...the enemies-to-lovers arc between these characters is SO SWEET! ❤️
The dialogue is such a delight to read-very witty and exciting, bouncing back from character to character. The worldbuiliding is intruiging and well-shown. You get the sense that the characters know their world very well, and yet the author manages to show us readers the world in the context of the characters thoughts and emotions. The plot is interesting and the pacing is great!
I would have liked to be able to see Naomi and Ez growing closer together a bit more in the middle, maybe a few more scenes of them starting to NOT ABSOLUTELY HATE each other, but other than that I loved watching their friendship grow! :) (a certain, unnamed scene made me almost squeal with delight as my heart pitter-pattered for the characters...)
Miko...he has my heart forever! 🥰
(a note: a character curses a few times-maybe five overall in the entire book?-so, yeah, just thought I'd mention that for younger audiences)
Definietly reccomend this book for ages 10+ depending on the sensitvitey of the reader. (there is a lot of-undescriptive-deaths and some darker themes, so the age I guess just depends on the reader!) Love this book and I can't wait to read the rest in The Shadow Heir Trilogy!
I honestly am so impressed by this young author and can't wait to read the rest of this series-and whatever else she may write! Her drive, determination, and talent gives me hope that I can write too, and maybe publish my own stories too, some day! Reading her story has really inspired me.
Thank you, Emilia Ramos Samper, for such a wonderful, hopeful, truth-filled story!

SNAPSHOT
GENRE: YA Fantasy
PAGES: 241
PUBLISHED: 2021
RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
QUOTE: "You shall not only be wearing a crown of scales and wonder.  You shall be wearing a crown of blood and hatred."
RECOMMEND: Yes, I recommend it for teens.

SYNOPSIS
Princess Naomi dreams of leaving the castle and her mother's strict rules. All her plans of escape have failed until one day, a dragon flies into the castle.  Deadly and dangerous, she sees this as her only way out with the help of the mysterious Ez.  As Naomi flees the castle and enters the world of dragons and changelings, she realizes what she knew was all a lie and she is the only one who can save her people.

THOUGHTS
I was grateful to be gifted and copy of this story to review by the author.  Emilia has a serious talent!  I can't believe she wrote this at ten years old.  She did a wonderful job using descriptions and metaphors in her writing. There were some parts that were a little confusing and could've either used more detail or have been explained earlier in the story to clarify more for the reader.  I had to go back a few times to make sure I didn't miss something when it ultimately was described later on in the book. Overall, impressive story with a lot of action, surprises and lovable chatacters. What an imagination to create such a complex world.  I can't wait to see her writing develop and grow as she does! I'll keep my eye out for book two.

Crown of Scales and Wonder is the first installment of the Shadow Heir Trilogy. 🐲 It’s the story of Naomi and Ez ❤️ and their struggles to save the Kingdom. The book is a beautiful and refreshing story, with twists and turns, and situations you wouldn’t find in regular fairy tales.

Naomi is not a damsel in distress, but a strong fifteen-year-old princess who wants to free herself from her horrible mother, Queen Miranda. She meets Ez, a sixteen-year-old boy who already saw too much in his short life. He’s a dragon warrior who hates the queen for taking everyone he loved from him. Together, they embark on a journey where they will find friendship, the blossoming of first love, self-discovery, and the truth about themselves. 😍

The story is fun and full of adventures, 👸🤴🤸‍♀️ inviting you to take part of their lives and travel throughout their beautiful Kingdom. The author built an entire world from scratch, and there is even a map in the book to make all fantasy map lovers happy. You will laugh, live, and love with them, but be ready to share their sorrows and anger as well when cruel actions and hurtful losses strike them.

I’m honored to have read such an amazing story, and I recommend it to everyone, from children to adults who enjoy and still believe in the beauty of fairy tales.❤️

This review is based on the review copy I received.

4.5 ⭐️

This book is perfect for teens, I would have absolutely loved this book in junior high and high school. This is a great fantasy book for younger readers and despite this not being a book I’d pick up for myself at this point in my life I’ve decided to review/rate it more similarly to how I would have in high school when this would’ve been a book I’d devour.

The plot and world building in this book are so creative, I am so amazed by what such a young author was able to create. Crown of Scales and Wonder has lots of Eragon and LOTR vibes and is a great fantasy read for teen readers.

I would have loved to see more depth to Ez and Naomi’s relationship. This book could’ve used more editing, so if you’re big on grammar maybe stay away however given the authors age I chose to ignore it while reading and not allow it to affect my rating. The biggest downfall for me is that I felt the story could’ve used more details throughout especially about the characters themselves to help me fall for them.

This world in this book was very well thought out and the author created a wonderful new fantasy world filled with dragons (and monkeys).

⭐️⭐️⭐️💫/5

A wonderful and immersive young adult fantasy, debut novel!

Thoughts:

📍Fast paced, this novel manages to incorporate so many different scenarios and locations within barely 200 pages and the author has done this with skill!

📍Dragons, magic, fighting and an epic villain. This book delivers all the necessary elements required for a great YA fantasy that has a good mix of darker, emotional themes and moments of comedic relief.

📍Naomi is an enjoyable protagonist! Scrappy and determined she has inner strength and good character development.

📍I struggled a little bit with the world building. I couldn’t quite get a clear picture. Sometimes my mind conjured up a visual of a high fantasy ‘medieval’ type world but then the random inclusions of modern technology didn’t quite gel with that.

📍I did think some of the happenings in this book were a bit outlandish and the book would benefit from some subtle editing. That being said, this is debut novel for a teen author and I found myself very forgiving of this. The author has real talent and will only improve.

Well done! Thank-you to the author for providing me with a copy of the book!

Wow! I’m in shock!

First things first - I would never have guessed that this book was written when the author was only 10 years old!! Had I not already known the author was young, I really would of assumed that she was much older than she is. This book is easily as good as books I have read from other authors who have been writing much longer.

I loved the storyline - there are plenty of plot twists and be betrayal pretty much killed me off. I did not see it coming. And that cliffhanger is going to make waiting for the next book really difficult.

My only negative - which trust me I feel awful considering the authors age when this was written, is that I felt some parts of this book could of been in a bit more detail. I feel that we lost watching the relationship grow between Ez and Naomi. Throughout the book we seemed to skip ahead in time with only a few sentences to describe what was happening. And it always seemed to be in them moments that the relationship grew from hate to like. Had we seen that a little more then I would of given it 5 stars.

Overall a very good start to an interesting YA fantasy series.

"You shall not only be wearing a crown of scales and wonder. You shall be wearing a crown of blood and hatred."

Was gifted a copy of this lovely book by the author (@emiramsa). If was a quick, super fun read. The main characters are complex and interesting--we're literally introduced to the MMC as he like tries to fight his way out of jail! The pacing isn't smooth, but the story keeps moving. Honestly, Ez was my favorite from the jump. Pretty classic fantasy tale. Also, who doesn't love a spin on dragons?! Thank you, Emilia, for this delight. You're so talented. Can't wait to see what you write next!

Naomi ends up figuring out family secrets that she never knew throughout her time with the dragons. The character development is absolutely stunning, and the plot does not disappoint. This book was so much fun to read, with non-stop adventure and the perfect sarcastic humor.

With multiple points of view and a dynamic plot, this story had me hooked from the beginning! Naomi is our heroine who longs for freedom and a loving family. She’s stubborn, strong-willed, and is willing to do anything for those she loves. I loved seeing her character growth throughout the novel, as she transformed from a princess desperate to escape her responsibilities into a courageous and resilient leader.

Ez balances out Naomi’s personality with his no-nonsense approach and brooding moments, but as the story progresses we see more vulnerability from him as well.

Crown of Scales and Wonder tackled heavy themes of morality and what it means to be loved. Abandonment and abuse impact the lives of both main characters, and I was truly impressed with how @ handled the characters’ grief and trauma.

The expert world building made this fantasy adventure come to life, and we get a chance to explore so many different areas on the expansive map. Expertly done exposition and imagery made this a truly immersive story.

Read this book if you enjoy plot twists and big reveals, magic and dragons, tender moments and snarky humor!

Crown of Scales & Wonder by @emiramsa is a creative and fun book, filled with danger, adventure, and likable characters. The various POV worked well in this fast paced fantasy.

One of the amazing thing about this book is that the author was ten when she wrote it. It’s well-written and the world building helps bring the story to life.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5
Oh. My. Gosh. Emilia’s book left me speechless (in a very, very good way). You’re telling me she wrote this masterpiece at ten years old? It’s as good, if not better than, a lot of adults’ traditionally published books I’ve read (Emilia self-published her book)!
Crown of Scales and Wonder is a book of perseverance, of trust, and of new revelations. Princess Naomi, whose father disappeared when she was young, is seeing her mother in a new light when she starts using very questionable magic to bring the world under her control. Naomi meets Ez, the second in command of a rebellion trying to take down Naomi’s mother. Naomi escapes the palace with Ez’s help and they go around recruiting people to help with the rebellion’s cause, but a traitor might just cripple them all.
The worldbuilding, the descriptions, THE NAMES! The names are amazing and they all fit together perfectly. I can practically see the different lands and people when she explains them, like I’m right there with the main characters. I loved the monkeys, and Naomi is such an amazing character. Emilia is the best at iconic quotes.
I definitely recommend Crown of Scales and Wonder to MG and YA fantasy readers; readers everywhere, really. I can’t wait for its sequel, as well as the last book of the Shadow Heir trilogy!

Writing with great creativity and admirable cohesiveness, Emilia Ramos Samper delivers a captivating fantasy filled with magic, dragons, and other fascinating creatures. Princess Naomi Elistaire of Valaztein is determined to finally flee her mother’s castle. Queen Miranda’s rule is intolerable due to too many tutors, books, gowns and rules. And, suitors competing for Naomi’s hand in marriage. But really, the deal breaker should have been her mother’s corporal punishments and torture. Naomi’s chance of escape arrives in the form of a mythical golden dragon and a mysterious young man who infiltrates the castle. Ez is a Changeling, and second in command of the rebels who plot to overthrow Queen Miranda’s cruel reign. When Naomi and Ez make it outside the palace walls, the action truly picks up pace as danger and betrayal nips at their heels and they race against the clock to reverse the evil Queen’s dark curse upon the kingdom.

“𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙨𝙝𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙗𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙣 𝙚𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙤𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙, 𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙙𝙖𝙮, 𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙙𝙧𝙖𝙜𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙝𝙪𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙨. 𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙨 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙖𝙣 𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙮 𝙩𝙖𝙨𝙠, 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙣𝙚. 𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙨𝙝𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙤𝙣𝙡𝙮 𝙗𝙚 𝙬𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖 𝙘𝙧𝙤𝙬𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝙨𝙘𝙖𝙡𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙬𝙤𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧. 𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙨𝙝𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙗𝙚 𝙬𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖 𝙘𝙧𝙤𝙬𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝙗𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙝𝙖𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙙.”

Naomi and Ez, the princess and the changeling spy, are teenagers who exemplify courage and endurance in a battle against an apparently insurmountable evil. While enjoyable for all ages, the simple colloquial language and juvenile perspective may best be suited to the Middle Grade reading audience. Naomi and Ez’s banter, and the intricate relationships they share with other key characters, demonstrate the author’s ingenuity and humour. The narrative of struggle and rebellion is quite linear and sways between comedic and dark, still finding its footing, but is enthralling nonetheless.

“𝙒𝙚𝙡𝙡, 𝙬𝙚’𝙫𝙚 𝙙𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙖 𝙡𝙤𝙩 𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙣 𝙢𝙤𝙨𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙬𝙣-𝙪𝙥𝙨, 𝙨𝙤 𝙄 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙙𝙤𝙣'𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙠 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙨 𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙖𝙣𝙮𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚.”

Well said, Emilia! My 3 star rating is awarded for a good book, vivid imagination, and a recommendable read. The strongest element is its vibrant creativity. However, there is room for refinement in editing, grammar, and polish. I am eager to witness the development of Emilia's fabulous talent as her writing grows in maturity and sophistication.

I first want to thank the author, Emilia, for sending me a digital copy of her book to read.

I happened to come across this author thanks to Instagram. When I found out she published this book when she was 10, I was blown away! Knowing that she wrote this at 10, my star review is higher than if an adult wrote this.

After reading it, I’m even more in shock. This world she built it truly amazing for a young mind. I loved the characters, and the story was fast paced.

There were a few times that the story time jumped. I appreciated the short story at the end as well to fill in some of that time and I can’t wait for the second book!

This young author has a BRIGHT future ahead of her.
