Lasseter's Truth

Rate this book
Jack Johnson is both lucky and unlucky. He survives the Vietnam war as a decorated helicopter pilot, marries the girl he left behind, and lands on his feet at Australia’s leading advertising agency, as a launch pad to spectacular success in the industry. Lucky, you might say.

But luck can change. Jack is hit with a bogus criminal charge that chases him into the Great Australian Desert, in a quest for Lasseter’s fabled gold reef.

But Jack is not the only one looking. A mysterious Chinese company called Triple Eight is buying up leases in the desert, and people are dying.

Back home, he leaves not only a heartbroken wife but a beautiful and very determined daughter who has had her own problems. Expelled from Australia’s most prestigious public school, Tess Johnson vows to clear her father’s name.

Lasseter’s Truth follows them both as they take on the odds. A story that ranges from the greed of the nineties, into a famous legend of Australia’s outback, with a compelling climax for our own time.

A full third of the way into the book, I would not have given it more than 2 stars, but soon after, the story changed and took on a lot of speed. The story is told by five speakers; Jack; his wife, Ariel; Jack's Daughter, Tess; Anna, the Jezebel who accused Jack of sexual harassment; and the co-owner of S&J Advertising. There is a huge corporation involved, surfing, and scandals of all sorts. The plot is easily followed and after a full third of the book, runs so fast the reader has to concentrate to keep up sometimes.I definitely recommend this book, well worth the reader's time and effort to read.

-4.3- This was a goodreads give away I was fortunate to win. Despite a bit of a slow start to get the characters in place the story picks quickly about a quarter of the way through. The history and back story are quite fascinating, involving a lost gold claim in the great outback of Australia. The author does a great job of setting the hook on the reader and then slowly building towards an exciting climax. I don't want to reveal too much of the story in this review so I will just leave it to the reader to explore a well done lost treasure story. I recommend this book.

I received this book in a giveaway, so I didn’t know much about the book going into it. The beginning of the book was slow, but I actually liked the author’s character development. It took more than half way through the book to get to the whole point of the book, so for that I didn’t like it. I spent the whole time reading about one thing and then I’m almost at the end of the book for the main plot to be mentioned. I don’t think it was the worst book, but I did not like the flow of it at all. Which is why I gave it two stars.

Thanks to Goodreads I got a copy of this book. Very slow start as it is hard to follow in the beginning. There are several authors and it was hard to keep track of who was talking until you got further into the book you were able to relate tot he characters. After figuring out who was who it got interesting until what happened in the desert. Then as lives carried on it got slow again and I wasn't sure about the ending.

Liked this book very much. Lots of characters , Jack the ad man; Ariel, his wife; Tess, daughter and supermodel and surfer, etc. Jack is successful ad man, so life is a little easier. Not so fast. Story line is good, while Jack looked for veins of pure gold. That's what the story is all about. The only thing I did not like was all the Australian slang. I am a native New Yorker, so I got lost in some of the dialog.

The first 40% of this book was slow and drawn out and I almost stopped reading. The author went into great detail about some things, like surf board fins, that I felt could have been left out and still gave enough information to set the characters up for what was to come. Once the story got to the Lasseter's gold part everything happened so fast that I wondered if I had missed something.

Thank you for including me in this giveaway. This was my 1st giveaway book and I REALLY wanted to like it. However, I couldn’t get past the 4th chapter. I found it difficult to read as the language just didn’t flow for me. Maybe it wasn’t the right time to read it. I may pick it up again down the road.

Thanks for the free Kindle copy of this book. The 1st 1/3 of the book dragged along while all the characters were being introduced. I kept wondering how it tied into gold. The rest of the book kept me reading and it all came together quite nicely. Thanks for the Goodread!!

Jack, his wife and his daughter Tess live a very successful life in Australia. Tess is smart beautiful girl that gets kicked out of a prestigious school when another girl takes a picture of her as she gets out of the shower and sends it to Australia's Playboy magazine.

Jack owns a successful advertising agency with Silas who sets him up for bogus sexual criminal charges. He fights the charges but doesn't win completely. He decides to get out of town for a year until things calm down and looks for Lasseter's gold. A Chinese company called 888 is buying up leases and killing people. Tess and his wife help clear his name after he is gone.

I thought it was really good book and had some twists and turns that kept you wanting to read more.
