A heartwarming cozy mystery series about losing everything, taking a chance, and starting again.
After suffering a personal tragedy Abby Sullivan buys a huge old seaside mansion she has never even seen, packs up her life in San Francisco, and moves to Holiday Bay Maine, where she is adopted, quite against her will, by a huge Maine Coon Cat named Rufus, a drifter with her own tragic past named Georgia, and a giant dog with an inferiority complex named Ramos. What Abby thought she needed was alone time to heal. What she ended up with was, an inn she never knew she wanted, a cat she couldn't seem to convince to leave, and a new family she'd never be able to live without.
In book 21 in the series, it's Christmas in Holiday Bay and the whole town has pitched in to ensure that this Christmas is the best one yet. Meanwhile Colt has a series of thefts to deal with, Georgia has some tough decisions to make, Mylie is busy with her annual list, Annabelle is participating in a holiday pageant, and a whole new group of guests have checked in. Amongst the new guests are, a tree lot Santa with a secret, a social worker with an orphan on her way to foster care, an elderly woman dealing with her first Christmas after the death of her husband, and a scrooge of a travel writer assigned a heartfelt Christmas story in spite of the fact that she'd just as soon skip the whole thing.
Kathi lives with her husband, kids, grandkids, and dogs in beautiful Lake Tahoe. When she isn't writing, Kathi likes to read (preferably at the beach or by the fire), cook (preferably something with chocolate or cheese,) and garden (planting and planning not weeding). She also enjoys spending time on the water when she's not hiking, biking, or snowshoeing, the miles of desolate trails surrounding her home. Kathi uses the mountain setting in which she lives, along with the animals (wild and domestic) that share her home, as inspiration for her cozy mysteries.

The latest from Holiday Bay, Kathi Daleys cosy mystery series based around an Inn in Holiday Bay run and owned by Abby Sullivan, with her trusty team.
It's busy as usual with a full Inn, when a snow storm hits. Georgia, Abby's Inn Manager is having relationship problems so is back living with Abby in her cottage. Tanner, Georgia's boyfriend is hosting donors to his dog training business for a week, but it's not plain sailing as Tanner is arrested, accused of murdering one of his wealthy donors.
There's a new employee at the Inn; Haven turns up with her dog, Baxter looking for work after being on the road for sometime. Abby takes her in but she's aware Haven isn't telling her the whole truth about her past.
Then there's new, unexpected guests in the form of a social worker with a young girl. Trapped by the storm, Heather seeks refuge whilst she's on her way to taking Holly to a new foster home.
It's certainly all go at the Inn, will there be a happy ending?
This is a great series, each book is easily read in a few hours. Whilst each book is a standalone mystery, the books are best read in order of publication to preserve continuity of the characters and series.
I'm looking forward to book 22 in the series. A great cosy mystery read based at Christmas.
Secret in the Santa is the twenty-first book in Kathi Daley’s heartwarming Inn at Holiday Bay series. The setting is charming, and the well-developed characters are three-dimensional, compassionate, and caring. The well-plotted storyline flows smoothly, and multiple twists and red herrings in the complex mystery keep the reader engaged. I highly recommend this series to readers who enjoy well-crafted cozy mysteries.
After Abby Sullivan lost her husband and their infant son in a tragic accident, she moved to Holiday Bay, Maine, opened the Inn at Holiday Bay, and found a home and a family. Abby, who’s dating Police Chief Colt Wilder, lives in a cottage on the property with her cat, Rufus, and terrier mix, Molly. Georgia Carter, who has also overcome obstacles in her life, is the inn’s talented cook/baker and manager. Georgia and her dog, Ramos, recently moved in with her boyfriend, Tanner Peyton. Jeremy Slater, who lives in the inn’s basement apartment with his young niece, Annabelle, is a valuable asset who helps with the inn’s day-to-day operations. Mylie Sanders has moved in with Jeremy and is officially working at the inn.
Christmas is just around the corner, and Abby is looking forward to all the holiday festivities in town and at the inn. Velma sends a young girl, Haven Hanson, who’s down on her luck and looking for work, to the inn. In addition to dealing with a rash of burglaries of popular Christmas toys from local businesses, Colt is investigating the murder of a wealthy businessman from Boston, Bellingham Walton. Georgia is devastated when the evidence points to Tanner, and Colt has no choice but to arrest him for the murder. Meanwhile, an immense winter storm hits the area, causing the only road between the town and the inn to be shut down, stranding guests already at the inn and preventing others from arriving.
When you pull out a Santa suit from storage, you expect maybe a whiff of cinnamon and regret, not a decades-old mystery staring you in the face. But this is Holiday Bay, where festive décor comes with a side of crime. In Secret in the Santa, innkeeper/amateur detective/full-time magnet for trouble Abby Sullivan stumbles upon an old Kris Kringle getup that’s hiding something it really shouldn’t be. And because Abby doesn’t know how to let a mystery go unsolved (seriously, does this woman ever just watch a Christmas movie like the rest of us?), she’s off on another case—one that’s been buried under tinsel and small-town secrets for way too long.
As Abby pieces together the Santa suit’s shady history, she realizes this isn’t just some forgotten holiday relic—it’s tied to a disappearance that still haunts the town. Meanwhile, Georgia is elbow-deep in Christmas cookie dough, the inn is packed with tourists who think they’re just there for the cozy holiday vibes, and Abby is probably the only person too busy investigating to enjoy a single cup of mulled wine. But this case? It’s slipperier than an ice-covered sidewalk, and the more she digs, the clearer it becomes that someone does not want this mystery solved. Because nothing screams “holiday spirit” like an ominous warning to mind your own business.
Book #21 in The Inn at Holiday Bay series, this one works as a standalone—so if you’re new to the series, don’t panic. It’s got all the small-town charm, festive chaos, and unexpected darkness you could want in a holiday mystery. With twists, turns, and just the right amount of "why is no one more freaked out by this?!", this 4.5-star read will have you questioning every mall Santa you’ve ever met. Cozy up, grab a plate of Georgia’s cookies, and prepare for a holiday mystery that proves not every Christmas surprise is wrapped up with a bow.
I started this series and couldn’t put it down. Abby has a tragedy happen in her life so she decides to purchase a mansion in Maine sight unseen, So, she picks up and moves to Holiday Bay, Maine, a place she has never been. This took a lot of guts for someone to do. She gets there and sees the house she has purchased and needs a lot of work. There is a cottage out back which is in good shape so she decides to live there while the work is being done on her home. She hires Lonnie to remodel her home and make it livable. She decides to turn the large mansion into an Inn. She finds a cat that has taken up space in her new home and she is not a cat person. She ends up falling in love with the cat and keeps him. A young woman named Georgia shows up at her home looking for a job. She has also left a tragedy behind and has been living out of her truck with her large dog. Abby sees something in her and decides to give her a place to live and makes her manager of her new Inn. Luckily this is the best decision she could have made. Georgia becomes her best friend. Of course each book has a mystery of its own. There are dead bodies and a mystery to solve in each book of this series. Colt, the police chief is in charge of solving these mysteries with the help of Abby.
Abby is also a famous author who writes romance mysteries but since her tragedy that happened in San Francisco, she has started writing mysteries/thrillers so she can’t stay away from helping to solve these murder mysteries.
This series is the first I have read by Kathi Dailey but they have made me an instant fan and I will be reading more.
I have read books - 1-21. I think the next one comes out next month so I am really looking forward to see what is next in this series.
It's Christmas in Holiday Bay, Maine and things are going great at the inn. Abby and Georgia have adopted a new employee, a young teen, along with her dog, and they have quite the group of guests. Colt is dealing with a series of thefts which may have something to do with the local Santas and a secret.
I've really enjoyed this series and this book is no exception. It's well-written and the characters are wonderful. I love the sense of family and the small town charm that Kathi creates. I was drawn into this engaging story and kept hooked from start to finish. I always enjoy returning to Holiday Bay. The mysteries within are intriguing and will keep you on your toes. I'm looking forward to the next book. I highly recommend both book and series which I suggest you read in order for the most enjoyment and benefit.
There is just something off with this book. There are many places where the author refers to a character by first name when some is speaking, then it’s followed up with referring to that person again but by first and last name and what job they have. There are many instances where a character is part of a conversation and a few pages later they are surprised when the hear the news again. Example Georgia knows Tanner drove the murder victim to the warehouse, yet a few pages later she’s surprised to hear he left with the murder victim. The stolen property mystery is not really solved, but rather given maybe/maybe not answers from santa. I was shocked Abby would just enter someone’s and snoop around. Will Colt ever solve a mystery without Abby? The book just felt disjointed. With a few tweaks these could be really good, but the characters are just stale.

It's Christmas time in Holiday Bay and everyone is busy decorating, baking and shopping for the perfect gift. Abby, Georgia, Jeremy and Mylie are working overtime to clean rooms and plan activities for an inn full of guests. Abby realizes they could use more help and Velma sends them a young woman who came into the diner looking for a job. Haven has obviously gone through some hard times. She proves to be exactly who they need, and Abby is happy to provide a safe place for her to live in one of the empty cottages. There are three major break-ins involving robberies of most sought after Christmas items that keep Colt busy, as well as a murder that lands one of the regular characters in jail as a suspect. I enjoy reading this series. However, this episode left some loose ends with parts of the plot hanging and a rather hurried up kind of finish. That's why I only gave it three stars.
I have read every book in this series and some have been excellent, but others just OK. This was an excellent one that had a good mystery along with a couple of additional story situations going on at the same time as the murder mystery. All, were well thought out and flowed nicely in the story. These stories and their characters are like visiting with friends. There is a comfortable feeling that spending some time with them brings. As always, I love the Maine setting and the inn that serves as the anchor for the characters that all have problems and baggage that colors and brings interest to their roles in the stories. This was a good installment of this ongoing saga. A quick Christmas time read.
When a dead body is found at a warehouse one of the inn's regulars is found sleeping in the parking lot and is arrested for murder.
As the Christmas season arrives it brings with it a massive snowstorm and closes the city. The guests at the inn are unable to leave and add their stories to the main storyline.
There is a new character added in, a desperate young woman shows up looking for a job and hiding secrets from Abby and Georgia.
The story is told well just like we've come to expect from Kathi Daley. The characters are loyal to each other and to the town. Just an all around good way to pass a snowy day.
In the latest installment of the Inn at Holiday Bay mystery series there are several things going on at the same time. There is a mysterious thief taking highly sought after Christmas gifts, a murder, a mysterious new employee and a young girl in need of a new home. With Colt looking into the murder and theft he is able to save his friend and get the culprit in the end. The ladies at the inn are able to help the little girl and the young lady to make Christmas shine for all. Overall this series keeps getting better.
Another clean, cozy mystery set at Christmas time in the Inn in Holiday Bay. It felt so familiar for me to be back with Abby, Georgia, Jeremy and Mylie at the inn. There are two mysteries to be solved and Georgia has some major decisions to make in her personal life. A few deft twists to keep the plot moving quickly, friends and family gathered together at the inn, a new employee at the inn who needs refuge and a touch of romance kept me entertained for the afternoon.
There is nothing better than spending holiday with old friends. Unless it’s making new friends and adding to the group. While the plot is always enjoyable and different, the people that populate the books are the best part of the novels. We have a murder, a woman with a mysterious past, and a thief. Plus a wonderful Christmas celebration. And I always look forward to the next volume.
Just a so-so mystery and storyline for me. The behavior of Tanner was so far out of the norm it was unbelievable and I assume his character is exiting the series. I was disappointed in a few of the other characters who can’t seem to move forward from past experiences, and there seemed to be too many of them with problems rather easily resolved. I also found too much repetition of case facts; they talk to themselves, their friends, Colt, suspects, the same facts over and over.

This was a typical mystery by Kathi Daley, "Wonderful and Intriguing". The main characters in the series are very likable, well I lost a lot of respect for one. I dislike a drunk. Solving the murder was very entertaining and unexpected. I love the way there's very little to go on and then there's always some small clues that help bring everything together. Great fun.
I throughly enjoyed the entire series. By the time I reach the halfway mark. I felt I could predict the future of each book. Mostly I was disappointed in the way the series ended. I felt let down. While the series was entertaining I have no desire to read any of the author’s other books
I enjoy the interaction between the characters and their development through each book in the series. There is always a bit of mystery and sometimes a murder. This book continues those elements. You can read the e synopsis so I will not repeat it. I do think that a series like this is best when you start with book 1 and work your way through.
I have read all the books in this series and enjoyed this book immensely. It has a holiday theme and introduces a new character who seems to have a hurtful past. Kathi intertwines helping clear a friend from a murder charge with supporting another friend dealing with a personal relationship. As usual, I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to reading more by Kathi.
This was a nice story. Not as much rehash as some of KD's books. However, when the supposed murderer was arrested, my mind kept screaming: 'gun powder residue '! All the way through the investigation. Nothing was ever mentioned about gpr. One thing I would like to have experienced was Colt receiving his Christmas gift.
Secret Santa can be great but this was something different!
Well this secret Santa time was something different and had some painful moments to. But then you also added another unexpected worker to the mix how really needed a home! So some good and some painful times in this mix. What will the new year bring?
Feel good family Christmas book with little mysteries
This is one of my favorite series by Kathi Daley and is an enjoyable book to read. While reading this book you get the feel of family, community, fun, the spirit of Christmas and love. I highly recommend this book.
This was a good story in the series. I enjoy the characters in the series and additional ones that seem to come along. Really was one of the best so far.
This was a different kind of Christmas story. It had Santa, presents, holiday decorations but it also had murder,2 orphans, robbery, and romantic breakup. Abby and the gang helped save the day. Great story and I recommend it!
This series is great and I feel like the people are friends. Christmas is fun at the inn with the activities that are planned and the people who stay at the inn. Always a murder thrown in for good measure. Never found the thief though.
After I read book 1 I just couldn’t stop. I read all 21 books in the series back to back and now I’m sad to have finished. I will miss the characters, the Inn, the Village, everything. I was left with some doubts. What instrument does Colt play? ( I imagined him I’m in keyboards). I hope at some point this series will continue.
As always...I love this series and highly recommend to all. Really good cozy mysteries with interesting personal stories. Some of these characters have really heartwarming stories.
this is a story within a series of 22 books. It is a good story, somewhat bland, considering a murder occurred in this small town. I probably will go back to reading book # 1 to find out about the members of the story.
