HE DIDN'T WANT TO KILL THEM.
A couple with a nefarious secret are brutally murdered in their London art gallery. Their bodies cleaned. Their limbs dismembered. And the word LIAR inscribed on the woman’s chest.

THEY FORCED HIM TO.
For rookie detective, Jake Tanner, it soon becomes apparent that this is not a revenge killing. There’s a serial killer loose on the streets of Stratford. And the only thing connecting the victims is their name: Jessica.

BUT NOW HE'S GOT A TASTE FOR IT...
With pressure closing in from the powers above, forcing Jake and his team to contain the case before it goes viral, Jake learns that the team are willing to do anything to put an end to it all.

...HE CAN'T STOP.
Jake’s pushed to his mental limits as he uncovers The Community, an online forum for singles and couples to meet. But there’s just one problem: the killer's been waiting for him... and he’s hungry for his next kill.

The DC Jake Tanner CID Case Series by Jack Probyn is a tense crime thriller series full of hooks and twists that will leave you guessing to the end. If you like Luther and Line Of Duty, you’ll love this series that combines tension, gripping plots, and police corruption.

(Warning: This book is intended for mature audiences and contains disturbing and potentially offensive material.)

I’m Jack Probyn, and I write murder mysteries and crime thrillers set in England. I studied Creative Writing at the University of Surrey and have always been fascinated by storytelling, particularly the dark and twisty kind.

I’m the author of the DC Jake Tanner series and the DS Tomek Bowen series, both packed with suspense, mystery, and unexpected twists. When I’m not writing, I enjoy building LEGO, solving sudoku puzzles, and occasionally going snowboarding. I live in England with my partner and our British Shorthair cat, Tommy.

SADISTIC!

After enjoying book 1 in this series I was quite looking forward to this story but feel completely disappointed. Just did not gell at all with the new team with unlikable characters that just did not portray your average police officer. New murder case and the Detective Inspector with his bent colleagues off to pub to "welcome" the newbie DC Jack Tanner. Totally unbelievable, a suspect who has just savagely murdered a young mother and baby (no doubt covered in blood) escapes when surrounded by police and just hops on a bus to escape! Nothing at all endearing just explicit gore, poor story and conclusion. BP Sheffield.

This story takes up a year after the last one (THE COMPANY), with Jake Tanner as part of the new team at Stratford CID in London. A young couple has been murdered in the basement of their London art gallery.

This book is more gruesome than the first by a significant measure. Be warned. This is the story of a serial killer with gruesome tendencies. Not for the faint of heart. The author takes readers onto the Dark Web. Also, authors shouldn't list their books as "unputdownable." This raises one's expectations too high.

It concerns me that the author writes about too many "bent officers" in his stories. There were two (known) crooked officers in the previous book and several in this book. Maybe things are different in England, but the officers I work with are stellar and are constantly watched for infractions. Probyn lives in a darker world than I want to inhabit. Unfortunately, the author has not let go of the Crimsons (from the last story, THE COMPANY). They will reappear in the next book (THE CONFESSION).

Continuing my quest to read the Jake Tanner back catalogue; this is book 2 & was previously published as The Community. A word of warning, this book is gruesome with a capital G & not for the faint hearted.

Jake is going through a bit of an upheaval; a baby on the way & working with a new team. A sadistic serial killer is at work, lurking on line & murdering their victims in a variety of ritualistic ways. Add in to the mix police corruption & Jake still suffering the consequences from book one.

A great read, given the author’s age, I’m not sure what it says about him or me for enjoying the tale. As this is only the second in this series, I would recommend reading book one first - ease yourself in gently.

I really struggled with this book as I really didn’t need, or want, the graphic descriptions of sexual violence culminating in the most gruesome murders. I persevered but just wanted to give up as, at times, it felt too voyeuristic. I got almost to the end as there was an ongoing plot line which I didn’t want to miss any details of, but eventually, I decided at around 80% that I really could not take any more of it and will give up on the series.

This is a shame because I have loved Jack Probyn’s other works.

Definitely not for me.

The second book in the Jake Tanner series and it does not disappoint!

Jake is trying hard to fit in with his new team and has the added stress of having a baby on the way!
This book deals with a seriously depraved serial killer operating in the Stratford area of London. Twists and turns every step of he way with a hint of underlying corruption! Who are the good guys and will Jake fit in. A gripping read and totally un put down able.

This is not for the faint hearted and I had to be careful where I listened to this with teenagers around (got a bit embarrassed at some bits with them hearing), especially given the plot. What a mind to come up with this.

Jake is developing as a character and I really am enjoying the series. The narration really suits the story and works well.

A Jake Tanner title. Previously released as The Community. Good plot if somewhat gory in parts. The sub plot continues to lay the path of the corrupt officers within the Met Police and give an indication as to just how far reaching the tentacles are.

A rather sordid and seedy case for DC Tanner. Well written and entertaining. I love the Epilogue.this would make a great tv series.
