A life of love is just within reach, but in order to claim it, I’ll have to fight to the death.
No one is safe. Not me. My friends. My mum. Or Ayden.
I liked it better when I was the only target, but now, in an attempt to flush me out, my brother and dad aim to hit me where it hurts.
My heart.
The web of lies they have weaved begins to unravel, exposing secrets and betrayals I didn’t see coming.
When one friend is buried, and another brutally attacked, I’m left with the realisation that the only way for this to end and protect the people I love, is to take matters into my own hands and fight until someone dies.
Even if that someone is me.

***Buried is the third and final book in the Heavy Hearts series which ends with a HEA. Please note: Buried is a dark contemporary romance that contains subjects that may be triggering to some readers. Please visit Sarah's website to read the content warning.
Sarah JD, also known as Sarah Jane Duncan, is a dark romance author living in Australia with Mr Duncan who stole her off the market back in high school. Sarah can be found in her writing room plotting out her next smut filled romance filled with angst, violence, and themes so dark you should probably question why you love it so much.
Sarah writes about strong females who have to fight against the odds to find their power, their voice, and their truth. Her heroines possess the strength that only comes from being a survivor, and through their trauma, battles and struggles, they learn to trust again, and find love.
There’s nothing easy about their stories. They are hard, gritty, and painfully heartbreaking at times. But what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger, right? And when you throw in a swoon worthy guy, or an alphahole that you just want to slap, but also fall to your knees and obey, it’s the recipe for a rollercoaster ride.
So buckle up. Read the warnings. And let yourself get lost in the dark stories Sarah creates.
3⭐️. This fell a bit flat for me. It felt like it dragged and was a bit repetitive. Then it just ended. There were some loose ends which I assume may come into the rest of her books? Overall enjoyable series if you are into angsty drama with dark themes. Looking forward to reading her other books in this world
From the very first book I knew that this series was going to absolutely wreck me and oh boy did it ever. Lexi is one of the strongest characters that I have ever seen and I have enjoyed watching her grow throughout this series. I was rooting for Ayden and Lexi from the very first moment because I just knew that they were destined to be together no matter what came their way.
Ayden was my favourite character from the very beginning but there was another who I loved. He was that morally grey character that I should of hated but found that I couldn’t and the more that I got to know him the more that I loved him. What I didn’t know was that he was going to absolutely destroy my heart.
This author has done such a fantastic job at creating such raw, intense and gut wrenching emotion throughout this series. There have been so many heartbreaking moments throughout this series but nothing hurt more than the one that I can’t talk about. What I can say is that Ringo had some of my favourite lines in this book and the way that he talked about this certain character actually made me cry.
Damn Sarah Jane Duncan you are amazing! Wow what a final book to this amazing series. And I have to say not only is this book more sensitive than book 1&2 but so HOT too!
Now I love RH books and I was actually hoping it would of ended like that because what can I say I’m a thirsty bitch lol But no just one sexy guy with a lot of yummy sex! Hehe
I’m actually gutted it’s over as id of like to know how abbey got on but I feel like her story might be in another book? Also the boys, will they have their own book?
Considering it’s based on 17 year olds it’s got so much going for it, so much action, adventure, heat, typical Highschool drama but then you have the psychotic side of a sick half brother and I don’t even know how to describe daddy dearest. That guy makes a serial killer looks sane.
It’s dark and dangerous but fun. It’s serious yet different. I’ve loved this series from book 1 and I have to say book 3 has been my favourite out of the series.
It’s a must must must read from me! Not enough stars on the rating as it deserves more than 5.
“The moments we share are more powerful than the painful memories we carry. Speaking about those painful memories will help us loosen the grip they have on us.”
OMG! I am a slobbering mess after just finishing this amazing conclusion! My heart is ready to explode and I have tears dripping off my face. I was on the edge of my seat throughout with utter anticipation of what was going to happen to poor Lexi and her family next. The twists and turns kept me guessing at every turn of the page and the intense raw emotions had my heart aching, my pulse racing and my head spinning. Each chapter is filled with tragedy, heartbreak, pain, anger and a love that is beyond this world.
Lexi is a warrior, a survivor and one hell of a young woman. Her demons may get the best of her at times but the way she gets herself through her darkest moments with the help of her makeshift family makes her an even stronger woman to contend with. Ayden and the boys are such an amazing support group for Lexi and they made me feel like I just wanted to crawl into their story and be part of their group. Their love for each other knows no bounds.
The growing love that Lexi and Ayden have was unstoppable, fierce and explosive. These two were just made to love each other. Their passion and love exploded off the pages and had me laughing, crying and gushing over them.
“I’m never letting you go. You’re mine, and I’m yours until the last breath I take. Even after that, too. We will always belong to each other. I can feel it in my bones.”
Lexi’s father and brother really brought out the nasty in me while reading. The way they were portrayed and the evil that they both were made me want to reach in and gut them! They had me screaming with rage!
This series has blown my mind. It is brilliantly written with outstanding characters who will forever have a place in my heart, and with a storyline that is filled with such intense raw and gut-wrenching emotions, suspense, and twists and turns that shock us and leave us begging for more.
I will forever say that this series is one of my top favorites of all time.
Here I am writing a review with tears running down my face and I don’t know when they will stop. This series is soul consuming. Love, lust, life, death, heartbreak, pain. This story is not for the faint hearted. There are no words for the emotions that you will feel while reading this series. I feel broken now that it’s over and I wish I could read this series again for the first time. Lexi is a character that will take a piece of you and replaces herself in the part she took. If I wasn’t reading this story on my phone there were plenty of instances where I would have thrown my phone is pain and lust. I don’t know how Sarah does it. She manages to find the most beautiful balance of depravity and unadulterated lust. One minute I’m bawling my eyes out to squealing from the angst. She is a god in written words. I’m obsessed and I can’t wait to consume every series in this world. I am so excited but also nervous because I know she’s going to put my heart through it!
Lexi and Ayden are all consuming and I am inlove with their love story. It deals with real matters while having a feel of being real to it. Sarah’s stories feel so authentic and I think that is what sets her apart from majority of authors out there.
If you can handle the trigger warnings and don’t mind a book that will consume you then I can’t recommend this series enough. 10000000000/10 incredible
Stephannie's 5 Star Review: I really loved this series. It was full of twists and turns at I thought there was never going to be any type of HEA for Lexi and her Ayden. I loved Ayden jealously over her guy friends who were her pack. I was secretly wondering if this would turn into a Reverse Harlem but Ayden isn't the sharing type.
This was an amazing series and I enjoyed the third and final book. There were times I didn't know if these characters could take any more pain. When would her stepbrother and dad get caught? Could they find a HEA? My heart broke for these characters over and over. I didn't know if I could handle any more pain for these characters. This series was deep and I felt all the pain and the love too. I was happy about such a good ending and how it ended. One-click this series today.
In the past couple books Lexi has really gone through the ringer between her brother, dad, mom and kids at school. I love that her Mom has finally gotten herself together in this book and she’s now stepping up to the plate for Lexi. Her reasoning once you hear it makes it a little more understandable, not ok, just understandable. Mike and Lexi’s Dad are absolute filth and in this book we finally see everything come to a head. I love the relationship between Lexi and her friends but especially Lexi and Ayden. They’re couple goals!!
Filled with raw emotion, this book will hold you captivated. I found it hard to put down to see how the ongoing saga will go.
Lexi is a marvel. What has happened to her should have broken but it hasn’t but has made her stronger. Surrounded by Aydin and a host of friends, she forges ahead to face real life monsters and come out on top.
I laughed at times in between screaming in anger at what occurs but you’ll need to read to see what happens to those monsters and what’s in store for Lexi and company.
* I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.
Well that was an explosive ending to the series to say the least.
I laughed at the banter between Lexi and her pack. I swooned at the panty melting scenes with Ayden. I even shed a few tears for a character that will hate me using his real name. I even squealed when the song that I recommended to Sarah a few months back was in the book! Yes, I legit squealed.
Lexi has grown so much since our journey has begun, she has overcome so much and is still standing tall and doing whatever she can to protect everyone else. Mike is not finished with Lexi yet and he has really upped the game to get what he wants, but Lexi and her guys are not backing down which had me hanging onto the edge of my seat waiting to find out what happens.
Im gutted that this trilogy has ended but Im excited to see what comes next for Sarah!
Omg this series keeps getting better. This is the last book for Lexi and Ayden. Lexi has go through so much in the first two book this book just wrapped everything up perfectly. I don't want to give to much away but this series is a must read please be advised there are triggers so please check to make sure this book is for you. But if you have no triggers go read this series you need Lexi and Ayden story in your life.
This is third And final book in Lexi and Aydens story . I have been so in love with both these characters From the very first book . To watch them grow has been one of my very favorite things in this series , not to mention the off the charts chemistry between these two . If you are looking for a. Series , that is full of emotion, with lots of twists and turns as well as steamy moments . A series that will have you on the edge of your seat the entire time then this is the series for you .
Wow, this book has it all. You will cry happy and sad tears, you will rage with anger, you will laugh at Lexi’s crazy friends and their antics. You will also see abuse, physical and emotional, you will see addiction. But through it all you will see a fierce love from friends and from Ayden, Lexi’s soulmate.
What an ending to a highly emotion filled trilogy. This 3rd installment is no less emotional but probably even more. So many twists and turns that keep you guessing.
Lexi and Aydan deserve the world! Lexi is ready to fight, she wants to live and not be controlled anymore. She is not a delicate flower and is sick of secrets.
All the secrets get revealed in this book - and are there some heavy secrets. A stunning conclusion to this series with twists and turns I didn't see coming. Villians become heroes and some heroes get their wings. It is alot and I stayed up way too late reading this one.
Loved this book, loved the whole series. This last book finished the story up nicely. I loved the main characters they are all so nice and loyal to lexi and I really got to know them in the books. Im so glad that lexi got her HEA with Ayden they deserved it they had been through so much. This series was really well written and was hard to put down. I will definitely be reading more of Sarah's books if they are anything like this series they will be amazing. Highly recommend reading this series, it is very dark so make sure you read the trigger warnings.
I came into this noting knowing much, but I immersed myself in book 1 and two and now this.. This was a fantastic concluding story for Lexi and Ayden. Edge of your seat, heart exploding conclusion!
Gah! I’m so happy for these characters but so sad that this trilogy is completed. I fell in love with Lexi and Ayden immediately and have loved seeing them grow throughout this series.
Lexi has been to hell and back, more than a few times, and her struggle to move on isn’t over yet. Her half-brother Mike is determined to get to her, being the sick fuck that he is.
I was happy to see Lexi try to build a relationship with her mother after years of neglect. She needs anyone in her corner she can get.
Muz… This. Freaking. Guy. I wanted to hate him. Then he went and became a dark Knight and I fell in love with him in that moment. The bond him and Lexi now have is special.
Her pack. SWOON. Can I have a huge guy friend group at my beck and call please? Ahem 😏
Ayden is such a force. He is lexi’s safe space and always her support system. If she hurts, he hurts. If she’s happy, he’s happy. He is exactly what Lexi needs.
They have both grown so much and overcome so much & I was so excited to see how their story would end and I was not disappointed.
Im a little confused with both Rhys & Abbey’s characters. Rhys kind of moves to the back burner out of nowhere and Abbey has a lot of questions circling her. I have a feeling SJD plans to do more with the other characters so maybe we will get our answers that way.
It's a fabulous story that you have created! It is so all-consuming that the story stays in your mind even when you're not reading it. There are so many twists and turns and unexpected happenings, that you just don't know what might happen next. The way the story is written is so easy to read, and yet so emotional. At times it is heart breaking with its raw emotions and the depth of feelings the characters display.
I love your writing and can't wait to see what comes next for you!
Wow! This book.... this whole series... was amazing! It was dark, it was heavy, it was epically emotional. It gripped your heart and held it hostage until the very end! I loved every minute of it. The characters, the storyline, Lexi's strength and willpower to overcome all the tradegies she's lived through... it was all just amazing. Beautifully written story! A must read!
I have loved every moment of Ayden and Lexies Journey. This dramatic but full of love and family conclusion was absolutely perfect. This really is one of my must read favourite trilogies.
This series and author is one I'll never stop recommending, I felt as if the story was about me and I loved how raw and blunt she was. The story is fair trigger warning but if you can handle that then please read her books because she is amazing.
Happiness is all Lexi has ever wanted, and she now has that with her blue-eyed boy Ayden, he owns her heart, but to claim her dream, she will have to fight her past and present if she is to claim the future she so rightfully deserves.
Lexi endured the worst trauma possible at the hands of her brother
She is now surrounded by Ayden and the group of boys that proudly call themselves her pack.
To claim her future, she must reconcile her past and present with her mother, who is working towards being the mother that Lexi needs and deserves.
With Ayden by her side, their love growing stronger each day, she believes she can have the happy future she deserves
But there are threats still out there in the form of her brother and her father, they will use any means possible to get to Lexi, reminding her they have the power, that no one, not even Lexi is safe from their machinations.
They find strength in numbers, and they all stick close to Lexi and to each other working to uncover the truth that has led them to where they are now. Everything is entwined, wrong.
When Lexi endures the loss of a friend and another brutally attacked, Lexi only see’s one way out of this, to protect everyone and everything she loves, it is to fight to the death.
Lexi will go to every length, but will her fight for survival and happiness be enough to end this nightmare for the last time, how buried does Lexi need to be before she can find her way to the surface?
These characters will impact you in unusual ways, there will be moments that will make you laugh and cry but have you thinking what the f***, but its these pivotal moments that expose the perplexing tangle of hurt, anger and denial, powerful in themselves, the secrets, lies, deception, manipulation, pain, motives, and truths which becomes all the clearer with those deep revelations.
I was hooked from the very first chapter right up until the last. The different point of views told a telling story of heartbreak, love, and loss, of their past connecting with their present. The author knows how to write, to ensnare her readers to ensure they will come back for more, me I will come back for more.
It holds so much drama, action, mystery, adrenaline seeking suspense, slow burning passion, betrayal, blackmail, trauma, humiliation, degradation, romance, intrigue, revenge, violence, vengeance, murder, friendship, lust, loyalty, trust. It will hook you, have you turning the pages to find out more, the dark themes and triggers were gut wrenching and soul destroying yet were defining pivotal moments that made these characters all the stronger testing any reader, reading this story, it enables the readers to really connect with the characters, and as the story unfolds the readers see a lot of development and growth from the characters singularly and together.
And those s*x scenes in and out of the bedroom were f*****g erotic, the explicit language and dirty talk was filthy, downright wicked, sensually dirty, twisted, forbidden, taboo, emotional, wrong, intense, obsessive, daring, explosive, wrong, physical, provocative, possessive, controlling, oh so steamy, deliciously wicked, dirty, hot, beautiful, dark, naughty, raw, rough, powerful, passionate, wet, dominating, and wild, and there happily ever after was the icing on the cake.
i got through all of books one and two and get 50 percent through this book and i just cant anymore. ill pick it back up at some point but i need a break. forst of all, the two main characters know each over for like three days before they are like in love. second, this books does have trigger warnings but not nearly enough or anything. the stuff this girl has done to her is genuinely depraved, like i read it and now fear men as a whole. also the mmc is a total asshole, very possesive but not in a “tough her and you die” way, in a doesnt like her male friends, doesnt want her to go to school, which makes no sense cause she is safer there, all that shit. idk everything he did made me mad at him. also whenever they fight it is them getting mad at each other, typically lexi for something real or at least reasonable and then ayden not being able to deal with the effects of lexis trauma and ptsd/ fear responses, and then half way through a friend (there are like six of them and she calls them her “pack” which is a ehole other thing) breaks it up or they get horny and make out or hook up. also we get so much and yet so little background, like subtle hints at things that are never confirmed or denied. like why give the side characters obvious trauma if you are not going to tell us what it is or how it effects them?? also the villian dude basically sa’s like a 12 yo girls and that feels so wrong and unnecessary and unwarned.
anyways yeah

Another raw and emotional book from this series. This was a beautiful ending to this series and it was done perfectly! No more cliffhangers... thank God, lol. This whole series was a roller-coaster of emotions. I've never read a series that made me feel so deeply for the characters in them.i felt like I was there, cheering Lexi on and being part of the support system.
I'm so glad it ended with Ayden and Lexi together. The last book had me wondering if it was going to be just them. This book had more spice to it than the other two. Ayden and Lexi are meant to be, and I'm glad it ended that way.
This is a dark YA romance. There are many twist and turns throughout. Lexi is a survivor from her half-brother and worse than the devil dad. She's a survivor of life in general. Her support group is amazing, and I want to know if their going to have their own books? This book was written well, with so much raw emotion behind it. The author told a beautiful story.
I received this as an ARC. This while series is a must read. Couldn't put all 3 books down once I started. A must-read, pick them up today.

*Buried is book 3 of the Heavy Hearts series and cannot be read as a standalone. It picks up where Deep (book 2) ended in a cliffhanger preceded by Heavy (book 1)*
With Lexi's dad and brother still on the loose, noone is safe. They won't stop until they hit her where it hurts...her friends, her mom, Ayden, and ultimately, her. With one friend buried and one severly beaten, Lexi is ready to take matters into her own hands, even if it means death.
I would've never guessed the amount of secrets or plot twists this book was going to take and I think it's my favorite out of the 3. Aside from it wrapping up the series with a HEA, it had the most twists and turns that just kept coming. Lexi continued to lean on Ayden and her new found family while also building a relationship with her mom. She learns a bunch of new secrets that only make her stronger and she'll do anything to protect her family the way they've protected her. This was my first time reading Sarah Jane Duncan and I've added more of her books to my TBR after this series!
