This was rather a cute children's book that explored what it means to be a friend using the much social capybara. As such I was thinking that I would see more capybaras instead of just one capybara with so many other different domestic animal species although they were all cute.
The book itself usually has the photographs on the left to illustrate the book while each photograph was especially chosen to emphasize the point that the picture is making. Take for instance a herd of capys for time spent with friends in big parties or a capy hiding alone under a lot for a friend needing alone time. As such there is plenty of cute photos to find yourself falling for.
The writing format was kind of strange and that isn't taking into consideration that this was a digital book. Some of the writing was very small and I am not sure if it meant to tell that portion of the story as captions. At other times there was basically a page-wide tag with the writing in it which is much friendlier to the eye.
The concept of how to be a friend is a good idea and there were most definitely a lot of wisdom given in the message so I can see it as being a good starter's book for children on friendship. Otherwise it was rather just a decent friendship book with plenty of cuddly pictures plus a two-page spread with more information about this giant rodent.
This is an adorably lovable children's book featuring the capybara, the largest rodent in the world. This book had special meaning for me because many years ago we had taken a family trip to Colombia, the native home of capybaras. Capybaras roamed all over the place, and a couple even ventured into the backyard and pool of the house we were renting. They are such serenely calm and agreeable creatures; we were able to walk right up to one and touch it, and it didn't mind at all. I have a photo of my kids squatting next to a large capybara - about half as big as they were, and they were pre-teens at the time.
I can see how it probably wasn't too difficult to take the pictures that are in the book. Have a bird sit on a capybara's head and take a picture? No problem. Put a capybara on a horse and have them stay still for a photo? Sure thing. Such wonderful creatures!
