Dr. Selene Flores spent the last 13 years in Boston creating a life outside of Deadlights Cove. Successful practice, her own condo, and a lackluster social life. When Mayor Orion calls in a debt, her life is turned upside down.
Ryker, supernatural bounty hunter and mercenary, is injured on his way back from tracking down the demon-witch causing chaos in their world. The wound should be impossible for an ancient magic-wielding dragon shifter, yet it’s not healing with magic, and Selene is the only witch medically-trained who might be able to help him.
Only problem is, Selene has been avoiding Ryker since their one-night stand on Halloween.
The two are forced to put their differences aside when chaos strikes again, impairing the magic in Deadlights Cove and beyond. Who better to continue the hunt for the culprit than the one witch who doesn’t rely on her magic?
Except there’s no way in Hel that Ryker is letting Selene take over his job. Not alone.
Follow Selene and Ryker’s story, along with the quirky band of local misfits, in Book 3 of the Deadlights Cove series, Wing and A Miss. While each book follows a different couple, the Deadlights Cove series is best read in order, starting with Smoke Show.
B. Perkins has been making up stories about magic since she learned how to write words on paper. She has several degrees in various things, and if all they’re good for is to provide background in creating fantasy worlds and systems, then maybe they were worth it.
In one corner we have a loner of a dragon and in the other we have an absolutely delightful human. Selene gets called home in a hurry because Ryker has been injured and can't shift back to human to heal himself. He was injured while flying and exposed himself to humans while in dragon form.
The powers that be decided that Selene should be the one to track down what's going on with this magical cult that injured him and Ryker simply will not let that stand.
I LOVED that she called him by a series of more ridiculous dragon names when he was being whiny.
All in all, a very fun addition to the Deadlights Cove series!
OMG. AIMEE AND B. THE LOVE I HAVE FOR THIS SERIES.
DEADLIGHTS COVE OR BUST.
ARC Review:
TLDR: - one bed trope - supernatural small town - touch her and literally die vibes - grumpy vs sunshine - dragon shifter + witch - goblin shark who loves his shrimpies
Aimee and B have created something truly special with this series - it is the perfect balance of funny, romance and fantasy with pop culture reference sprinkled in. The characters are extremely dynamic and contain so much depth that they feel like real people.
Ryker and Selene’s story was beautifully crafted in these pages and I cannot wait for the next book to come out - if you haven’t read this series yet…RUN to KU, or Amazon, or wherever this book is sold - you need it like Belphie needs his shrimpies.
I am so happy to get back to Deadlights Cove for another spicy tale in a small town! If ever there was a fictional town I would want to live in, it would be that one. And if there happens to be a grumpy dragon shifter in need of assistance...well, that would just be the icing on top of an already delightful cake. This couple had been hinted at since the first book in the series, so I was excited to finally read their story and see how these two would come together. While the first two books take place solely in the town and surrounding area, we also get to explore the hero's mountain home in Colorado, and we see a bit of the paranormal world in Alaska. It's fun to think of magic being all around us, hidden in plain sight, and the journey throughout this book shows that world of possibilities.
Ryker is a lone dragon, preferring to be by himself in most aspects of life and having absolutely no interest in pairing up with a witch who sparks his interest like no other ever has. Ever since their heated one night stand last Halloween, it's been on the back of his mind. Selene has been trying desperately to forget through serial dating, but each date is worse than the last. When an emergency call saves her from the latest dating disaster, she returns home to find an injured Ryker who needs her...reluctantly. As a doctor, Selene is his best option for a swift recovery, because his injury was caused deliberately with a lead bullet that has paralyzed his magical abilities. They are forced together, and as the nights grow cold and the heat goes out, resistance is futile. Soon sparks are flying, and Ryker is finding himself unable to resist caring for Selene as he would a mate. But he knows he's not good enough for her, and sooner or later, the fairytale will end.
I love a good grump/sunshine book, and when the grump is also an ancient dragon shifter who can't resist snarling in a jealous rage whenever someone gets too close to his sunshine? That's my catnip. Give me a man who hates everyone but the heroine, and my life is complete. Now, with any grumpy character, there is the inevitable moment when they mess up. Badly. And I require a great deal of groveling to forgive them. He groveled...a bit. I personally wanted him on his knees and to suffer a bit more, but we can't always get everything we want. Despite that, I really did enjoy this couple so much. Selene was a force to be reckoned with, unafraid to poke the dragon and see if she could convince him that their love was worth the effort. Seeing Ryker slowly lose his mind over how possessive he was over her was hilarious, especially when others started to notice too. Devanna, bless her, knew exactly what to say and when to get him to see the light. Without her, we probably wouldn't have a happy ending, because Ryker is stubborn as a mule. I really look forward to her working her magic on Orion. Gimme.
Great book, perfect town, lovable characters all-around. The next book is sure to solidify my love all the more.
**I received a free copy from the author and this is my honest review.**
This is the third book of the series and it was my favourite so far! This series is the perfect mix of supernatural/magical romance with all the small town vibes! Every book brings in new characters and more to love about this community, but I have to say this book brought some heat and some laughs! Definitely recommend!

Okay hear me out. Is that the best quote of this dang book. NOPE, but if you know me, really know me. I have said this to you at some point in time. It’s a favorite saying of mine. I know Brit can absolutely account for me saying it to her more than one time. 🤣 This was only 6% in and I knew without a doubt. I would love this book as much if not more than the last DC book I’ve had the beautiful pleasure of reading…
Now on to the more juicy stuff…. Of course our story is about Ryker and Selene… but we still have all our beloved side characters… my all time fave Mo.. Manically Meddling Mo… did you know she had a book club? No, me either. But can I join this club sounds like an absolute hoot of a good time.
The amount of time I spent grinning while reading is ridiculously amazing!! There are so many bits and pieces that just make this book so worth your time! There were also parts that made me misty eyed falling for Ryker… gosh that dragon 🐉…Selene was in denial for her 🥵 s for him…
Our mystery is still afoot during this book. How are we going to help our DC and paranormal community stop this lunatic Kal?!?! Can I throat punch him please? While we get some answers more continued to arise and left unsolved.
The tension and heat along with the endless witty and no shame in this dragons game is hot y’all! Woooo I always love a good dragon shifter but Ryker has made top tier shelf book BF level. Don’t at me I’ll fight you 😉😉
This book you must read, haven’t read 1, 2, or .5, read those NOW before this. I promise you’ll binge them all in a week!
Wing and a Miss releases 2/4/23 on KU, Ebook & Physical - signed copies can be purchased on Aimee’s website! 💸💸💸💸💸 as usual take it all Aimee and B take it all.

If I could give this book more than 5 I would. Never has a book made me laugh, giggle, fist punch the air, cry and then cry happy tears.
This is a beautiful world to get lost in and a beautiful distraction. And I love seeing so many people reading this. It is full of 80/90’s nostalgia, funny quips and banter.
This series is the best thing to have graced our bookshelves our e-readers.
How to train your dragon has nothing on this book. Selene is pure gold. Ryker is such a cinnamon roll. And Mo is just everything. I loved Mo in Smoke Show but her matchmaking and family meddling is just pure adorable and you just can’t help but love her.
Just grateful to be able to have read the arc in exchange for an honest review
Reread: Absolutely fantastic! I missed these 2 so much. Did I know what happened in the end? Yes. Did I still tear up? Also, yes.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Another incredible installment in The Deadlights Cove series.
This book brings the action from the very first chapter. The problems that the residents have been facing really hit hard and fast. This has become a very real threat that has some very severe consequences.
We find Selene and Ryker in that forced proximity goodness, and I loved every minute it. Ryker ends up becoming one of the more affected residents and is forced to drop the walls he has built up over the years and accept help from Selene. They form a bond and a friendship over topics that I really connected with. Watching them grow as people throughout the book had me rooting for them every step of the way.
Although the severity of the situation is ramped up coming into book 3, I laughed so many times throughout the entire book. Vance and Perkins continue to bring the comedy and the on-point pop culture references to this book. This book also had a depth I wasn’t expecting and found myself feeling feelings.
I continue to fall in love with this incredible world, the town, and all the characters. Not to mention all the meddling and hijinks. I can’t wait to see what book 4 brings!
This 3rd book in the Deadlight’s Cover series is equal parts funny, sexy, and heartfelt.
If you watched Gilmore Girls, this book (and the ones before) take place in a small town similar to Stars Hollow; but add in some supernaturals and it’s even better. The characters are dynamic, hilarious, and so easy to love.
I truly loved it so much. I cackled out loud multiple times. Even read an entire 5 page scene out-loud to my husband because I couldn’t stop laughing.
There is a big mystery sub-plot throughout all the books that adds a dose of suspense and keeps you wondering “what will happen next?”.
If I haven’t convinced you yet; Please read if you like: 🏡Supernatural Stars Hollow 💡Forced proximity 😠Grumpy MMC ☀️Sunshine FMC 🛏️One bed 🧙♀️Meddling neighbors 🐉Shifters 🪄Magic 👩⚕️Nurse him back to health ❓Mystery and intrigue 🤣Witty cackle-out-loud humor 🤭Nicknames

So many emotions. Like all of the Deadlights Cove books so far: I laughed; I cried; I fell in love. I love every person in this town. And UGH the angst - perfection.
Now, off to convince my husband we need a jeep with roll bars 🥵
3.5 ⭐️ Good, but not my favorite of the series! I really liked how strong Selene’s character was, but have never been a big Ryker fan. The “I’m leaving because it’s better for HER” trope didn’t hit right for me either but I loved how much adventure was in this one!
🐉Paranormal 🐉Small town 🐉Grumpy/sunshine 🐉Forced proximity 🐉One bed 🐉Nurse him back to health 🐉Jealous MMC 🐉Cozy winter setting
Book 3 in the Deadlights Cove series and it was just as hilarious and delightful as the others. This one features Ryker, a dragon shifter, and Selene a doctor/witch. The small town is quirky as ever and everyone is still trying to solve a mystery regarding loss of magic. There is angsty tension, hilarious banter and swoony romance. Plus there was some RH references during the local book witches club that had me in stitches. I love this series 😭😍🥰!
I always download the ebooks and purchase the paperback copies of these books as soon as they're released. The ebook is meant to sustain me until my paperback copy comes in.
Despite fast shipping, I always finish the book before it arrives because I CAN'T PUT IT DOWN. Wing and a Miss was another test in my self control. I failed.
That last scene was so good! I'm really enjoying the Deadlights Cove universe. I also love the exploration of a dragon shifter and other magical communities outside Deadlights Cove. Personally, I think we really needed to see what happened on Halloween, or at least the lead up to the big bang. Maybe for that reason, I was not as invested in these two as I was in the previous leads. The overarching conflict though is heating up, and I am very excited for the tropes in the next two books.
We are back with the third book in the Deadlights Cove series. If you read the first 2.5 books and you are here wondering if you should continue the series: yes, why are you questioning this?
If you are here checking each book's reviews before you start the series: stop what you are doing and go read it.
Fall in love with these characters as much as I have.
I was given an e-ARC of this book by the authors. Book three in the Deadlight’s Cove series was a delight. A grumpy ancient dragon shifter and a witch who’s stuck taking care of his grumpy butt. Ahhhh a match made in… fiery hell? Well maybe they don’t dislike each other that much. They might have a teensy bit of history and a lot of time in forced proximity of each other to either admit or deny that history. Ryker and Selene are I think my new favorite of the series. The solitary life Ryker has led because of how long he’s been around and the fear of opening up to someone and starting a new kind of life… it just hit home in a lot of ways with me.
I have now read more than a few books by Aimee Vance and I think it’s really cool when you start to put together minor shared themes in an author’s work. Like Stephen King writes a lot about Derry or something near it… well Aimee has Colorado and her dragons. And I just love it. It’s like a hidden language between people in the know… ya know?
Five stars. There’s still a bigger mystery in the Cove we’re trying to figure out and I’m looking forward to how that all turns out. Just what is with these Beanie Babies? Sheesh. And in the meantime I’m over here continuing to drool over the Viking dragon shifter. No big deal. Great job guys! Can’t wait for the next book.
Wing and A Miss is the third book in the Deadlights Cove series. As the magical mysteries continue to grow, the next pair of MO’s meddling matchmaking collide. Ryker, the resident thousand year old dragon shifter, is shit out of the sky. Selene, a healer witch and trained doctor, is called back to the Cove to save his life. These two personalities collide in forced proximity, Mushu references, and one Jeep. IYKYK.
The world of Deadlights Cove expands as these authors introduce another magical community and continue to increase the stakes surrounding solving the mystery of Deadlights Cove and the ley lines. This novel has excellent pacing in both mystery, action, and romance. I highly recommend this series for readers who love paranormal romance, action, mysteries, and unique tropes like one bed, one bath, or one Jeep.
THIS. BOOK. Holy moly! What an adventure! The series just keeps getting better and better. I love a book that gives me all the feels and this one delivered.
RYKER 🔥 I’ve been looking forward to his book since he first appeared in the series, and this did NOT disappoint.
And Selene… her character developed so beautifully in this book! She’s such a sweet little bad ass! And her dragon jokes throughout had me rolling.
I love the way these books end- there’s enough resolution to the over arching story, that you’re not pained waiting for the next book, just excited. And in true romcom fashion, there’s a satisfying HEA.
I can’t wait for everyone to get their hands on this one- thank you Aimee & B for the chance to review an advance copy.
Kindle, KU | I was saving this one for my recovery day from a long stretch of 13 days at work, hoping this would be my favorite of the Cove Couples and I was right! With Ryker being a dragon, dark and broody, a loner, I was so happy to read about him falling for Selene. And since she worked in the ER, she will hold a special place in my heart :) This is one I will need in paper copy as I love this story and this corner of the world!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This might just be my favorite installment of Deadlights Cove yet! In addition to the signature pop culture references and small town vibes I’ve come to know and love from this series, we get:
- Grumpy/sunshine - Forced proximity - One bed trope - One Jeep trope (!!!) - A reluctant witch turned doctor - A dragon shifter - A wider view into the supernatural world beyond DC
And the ending has me eagerly awaiting the next book!
Okay so far this one might just be my favorite. Probably because Ryker is a dragon and super old. But I really loved how him and Selene grew in their relationship even if we had to wait the entire book.
I cannot recommend this series enough...it has everything you could want. Slow burn, humor, fun characters, mystery...IT ALL. I have yet to read a book by these two that isn't a 5 star for me.
"Sun now set, we watched the stars come out, snowflakes swirling through the air, and I wondered if maybe, even after a millennium, a dragon could be capable of unlearning solitude."
The best one yet! I know from the moment we meet Ryker in book 1 (smoke show) that he was going to be my favorite character and he did not disappoint!
Give me a broody, grumpy, grunting dragon shifter with a heart of gold and I will fall. That's just how it is.
Selene is his opposite, bright and wonderful. A Doctor and a witch and she's been called in to help save Ryker from a gunshot wound.
They have history, and Ryker doesn't take too well to Selene downplaying it. ;)
"As if that was the only way I could blow her mind. My eyes snapped open again as I looked at her dead-on. “Then take off your pants and sit on my face.”
Together the two go on a hunt for the demon that's been terrorizing their world and their magic, and they look sexy doing it.
“Flores.” I couldn’t help lifting my eyes to his, the green gone as bright as I’d ever seen them where his face loomed over mine. “You got needs, you come to me.”
I also love that he calls her by her last name except for moments he realizes he cares for her deeply. Oh my sweet dragon. He's lived for so long and in such a lonely existence, that finding Selene and wanting to be with her is a big adjustment.
One of my favorite things about this book was that it's just made for Millennials. The amount of dragon nicknames that Selene calls Ryker to the moment about Evanescence and them watching 10 Things I Hate About You and the trivia night about Sandra Bullock. The references were just non stop and so nostalgic.
Lots of hot moments, and action packed moments, and sweet moments. I just loved it!
"Let me love you, Flores.” His voice dropped to a whisper. “Fall for me, Selene.”
I had been looking forward to reading about Selene and Ryker since the first book and it was great to finally get to read their story!
Is there anything better in a romance story than forced proximity after a one-night stand?
Selene and Ryker were shockingly well matched for each other (shocking because I think Ryker would rather die than spend more than a handful of minutes with literally anyone) but the way he fell for and eventually accepted his love for Selene was completely believable, mainly because he had to be dragged there kicking and screaming.
Their banter was incredible and I can actually picture the document that the authors must've had dedicated to every dragon ever depicted in mainstream media, which makes me giggle to think about.
Ryker was the perfect character to showcase the history of Supernaturals (he's old) and it was also our first real taste of supernatural communities outside of Deadlights Cove (next series in Colorado, please?????). I also loved reading about his job as a mercenary, I would honestly take 15 novellas of him doing his mercenary work over the years.
Selene is an incredible FMC, she is the perfect witch for Ryker and wasn't afraid to go toe-to-toe with him, even if he is a giant scary dragon shifter. She's openly kind and caring, which was the perfect foil for Ryker pretending like he didn't care about anyone or anything outside of doing his job.
I do think this is the first book in the series that starts to solidify the over-arching plot for the series and the payoff was really great. I loved having the information for the previous books about Kal and getting hints that he isn't the main big baddie, so I do think that reading the previous books makes this one an even more satisfying!
🐉 ARC Review : Wing and a Miss (Deadlights Cove #3) 🐉
🔫 forced proximity 🔫 reluctant partners 🔫 tension city 🔫 the jeep 🔫 healer/patient 🔫 groveling 🔫 cameos cameos cameos
Feels good to be back in the Cove! I'm not sure what kind of magic (or perhaps drugs) they stuff into these books, but I'm addicted and can't stop. Selene and Ryker are two people who have been doing life alone in way or another. I enjoyed seeing Selene accept who she is and her abilities, but the real star here is Ryker. Listen, y'all already know I love dragons, so this review may be biased. These two were explosive right off the bat. The tension really kicks off in chapter four and doesn't stop. I absolutely ate up the fun banter between these two. There was a third act break (not break up), that was quickly resolved and, of course, a happy ending.
The setting expands a bit in the last portion of the story. Without posting spoilery details, I'll just say I wasn't expecting an angelic twist! I hope we get to learn more about it in future Cove books!
These books have a secure hold on my heart. I already need book four! That last page is such a tease... WHAT IS THE SECRET?!
