Deadlights Cove #5

Karma is a Witch

Rate this book
Devanna Bailey has worked her way up to Boss Witch since her teens, throwing herself into her witch supply shop, Carpe Noctem, no matter how the irksome mayor has tried to stand in her way.

Equally driven, it took Orion centuries to earn his post as Mayor of Deadlights Cove. This weird little town and its quirky residents are his life’s purpose, and he might lose it all. When a local witch is murdered and the human FBI arrives, nothing will ever be the same.

Shifters have been outed to the human world. Nergal, a powerful, ancient demon, is out to destroy Deadlights Cove. The angel realm is in turmoil. And Orion can’t save this town alone.

She’s a brat.
He’s a control freak.
Neither of them know the meaning of the word yield.
The only question is, who will break first?

I strongly believe that anyone who enjoys fantasy should give these a try 🤩
This was a beautiful conclusion to what was built up over the past 5 books - both romantically and as far as the mystery goes.
I loved Deadlights Cove and every single quirky and unique character - The found family vibes were ✨immaculate✨ and everyone in town grew so much over the course of the whole series both individually and together. L

The most perfect finale to my favorite series 💜

We’ve waited 5 books worth of tension and I was not disappointed.

Not to mention the laughs, found family Covies, and the perfect epilogue.

The authors outdid themselves. It’s bittersweet to leave the Cove but also very excited for what’s to come!

I was gonna take some time to think before reviewing this book, but I think I’d rather do it now while my feelings are more raw having just finished so here goes:

This is the best book series I’ve ever read - and this finale was exceptional. I know we can easily just label this as a fun “witchy/paranormal romcom” but hear me out, it is SO much more.

From the very beginning of Smoke Show (book 1) Aimee and B laid the groundwork for Karma. Not just plot wise, but with Dev and Orion’s relationship. It was a true enemies to lovers story that I felt deep in my bones. The passion and chemistry between them can’t be denied.

All the tension we felt in books 1-4 came to a head perfectly in this story. Chapter 14 is literally EVERYTHING enemies to lovers is about. The spice was spicing every time they came together (literally and metaphorically) and was everything us Covies have been waiting for.

Spice aside, this book also brought full circle how much I love this weird ass band of misfits and their found family. The relationships between all the characters, both platonic and romantic were all written so beautifully. I legitimately feel liked these characters are my friends and family. I’ve never wanted to be in a fictional place more.

I just want to thank B and Aimee for bringing this series to life because not only are the stories a comfort to me, but all the friends I’ve made through reading this particular series are so so special to me.

Love,
The other Dev, reader. 🫶🏻

If you love enemies to lovers this is the book for you! This relationship has been teased since book 1 and it gave us plenty of time to make all the assumptions. I was prepared for this finale to go several different ways, but it was wrapped up beautifully.

As always the authors gave us all the witty banter that had me cackling throughout the pages. The unhinged small town of Deadlights Cove did exactly as we would expect and used chaos to to bring the community together under threats of destruction. There is no shortage of nostalgia and found family. Such a fun read and I can't wait for the next series reread!

Convincing you to pick up Deadlights Cove based on T.Swift lyrics…

Orion - King of my heart (my broken bones are mending, with all these nights we’re spending, up on the roof)

Lys - Endgame (I wanna be your first string, I wanna be your a-team)

Ryker - Cruel Summer (devils roll the dice, angels roll their eyes)

Kit - Cardigan (but I knew you, dancing in your Levi’s, drunk under a streetlight)

Blaze - Blank Space (so it’s gonna be forever, or it’s gonna go down in flames)

"Men always pronounce assertive wrong when they're talking about women."

5/5 stars 4/5 spice and a beautiful freaking ending to the series as a whole.

I LOVED this book. I loved every single thing about it. It made me feel all the emotions and scream when the spicy parts started to happen. This series is going to live in a special book place in my heart forever and I am so grateful I was influenced to read these (shout out to @kaitreadstoescape on insta). They are perfect for the start of autumn, cozy, hilarious, and just tugs on your heart strings.

I have been waiting for Orion's book since I started book one, Smoke Show. I KNEW in my soul that he immediately would be my favorite MMC of this series and it didn't miss. I have such a thing for the type A put together characters becoming unhinged behind closed doors that I just really went into this so excited. Orion is a straight forward rule follower with all the weight on his shoulders as his entire world gets flipped and thrown for a loop. He deals with control issues and feeling the anxiety of everything going completely to shit. Doesn't help that he can't stop thinking about a spicy blue haired witch across town.

Devanna was a FMC that I just found myself wanting to be bestfriends with, because if you have a Dev in your corner you KNOW you will have protection.. in a witchy way or not. She's a feminine badass that knows how to handle being on her own. Has a heart of steal that traps everyone she loves and chooses for her found family. I know her personality is hard to love but that's what makes her character so freaking special. Even in her frustrating moments I can understand how difficult it is to jump into the deep end with someone and let go.

The two of them are fiery and passionate but are much more similar than they think. I loved their story and the history that we got to see build in the previous books all leading up to this one, and lemme tell you the authors definitely saved the most spicy for last. If you think that Ryker was the most unhinged... no Orion definitely takes the cake.

When he hits you with an "Eyes on me, Hellcat" *completely melts into a puddle*

The entirety of this series comes to a riveting conclusion and a massive fight that had me at the edge of my seat. If you're going to start this series in the beginning you'll say yes I love Blaze these are so cute to this last book putting a hole in your heart that its over. I cannot rave about it as a whole enough. Not every book is a complete 5 star read but the setting and the characters just leave you wanting to really be in the Cove with them.

✨Book 5 in the Deadlights Cove series✨

In this LONG AWAITED pairing, we get to see some amazing characters finally give in to fate. I have loved Devanna this entire series. She’s a goth hottie, a badass business owner, and a fiercely loyal friend. Orion has been an incredibly uptight and nerdy sweetheart that finally loses his mind 😂

If you like tension and banter between love interests, this book is for you. The absolutely DEVASTATING tension. The build up through 4+ books, the savage banter, it’s all just perfection. The character growth from both of these characters was lovely. I relate to Dev’s need to keep herself closed off, but admire the way she’s working on that. I also relate to Orion's need for perfection and order, and loved to see how he finally let go of that a bit.

Also, this is arguably the HOTTEST book in the series. Daddy Orion did not come to play. The dynamic between these two was absolute 🔥 Special shout-out to the bonds of friendship 🥹

“That had kept happening to me over the past year for some reason, letting more people into my circle-maybe I was coming down with something.”

“And then you stomp in to my black-and-white world like a rainbow explosion of color… like a live wire, electrocuting me every time you open that damn mouth of yours so I can't see anything clearly.”

“The fact that I could be so physically attracted to such a vile being was probably my biggest personality flaw.” (How I feel every time I’m attracted to a man lol)

“Because you already haunt all my dreams, all my nightmares, and I shudder to think how your ghost would haunt my waking hours too.”

This was the very best ending to a wholesome and loveable series. The overaching plot, tension and cameos were delivered flawlessly. With each couple adding to the world that is DC, I believe that O and Dev are truly the glue. This read was raw, emotional and witty. It took the overall sp!ce level up a good'ol notch and left me feeling completely satisfied with how it all unfolds. Totally delicious, I gobbled up every reference, every morsel of femininity and funniky enough I now have a craving for popcorn! 5 stars!

All the stars! Marvelous conclusion to a series I adore.

This was definitely the most stressful book of the series- so much action! It was non stop. In the best way.

I have been waiting for Orion & Dev’s book… and wooooboy it did NOT disappoint. Definitely the spiciest of the books and I am here for it.

This honestly felt like a giant love letter to the Covies… the way each character was *exactly* what we loved about them through the book. And that Mo bonus epilogue that I had to wipe tears the entire time to read?

Perfection.

Can’t wait to see what Aimee & B come up with next.

Did I finish this book in one sitting?
Absolutely. Zero hesitation.
This was the conclusion I've been waiting for AGES for since reading book one last year.
THE. SLOW. BURN. BURNED. SO. GOOD.
Orion and Dev were utter perfection.
And finally you-know-who got what they deserved. That's all I'm gonna say.

The deadlights cove series is one I will proudly reread over and over and it'll feel like coming home each time.

The perfect finale to one of my favorite series! The Deadlights Cove series follows a perfectly quaint and chaotic paranormal town in coastal Maine. The town is home to shifters, witches, demons, angels, sea nymphs, a special moose, and much more. This series is the intersection of cozy, familiar, new, refreshing, and perfection.
This book in particular wraps up the sub-plot of the evil that has come over the community. And - it culminates the BUILDING enemy to ???? of Orion and Devanna.
This series will always be part of my home to me. It is tattooed on my heart, my soul, myself. I love the Cove and I love the family the family that lives there.

Okay wow, everyone needs to read this series. It’s possibly the best thing I’ve read. I’ve waited for Dev and Orion through 4.5 books and this did not disappoint one but. The tension between these two had been brewing for so long….worth it.

I loved it, I loved it, I loved it.

I dropped everything to read this book and I have no regrets.

Dev and Orion are slow burn perfection. We’ve been waiting so long for this relationship and it does not disappoint.

The tension, the banter, the twists, and, of course, the found family were top notch.

I’m so sad to say goodbye to the Cove but so excited for what’s next in this universe.

“Begrudgingly befriending you has been the best decision I’ve ever made. No matter how this ends, it has been an honor being your friend and roommate. Thank you for everything. For making me feel alive.” (Orion to Blaze)

Orion is an angel and the mayor of Deadlights Cove. He's always been a rule follower, but it's getting harder to stick to the rules when all hell is breaking lose in the town. He's the polar opposite to his best friend Blaze and their friendship is something that I look forward to in every book. I like to think Blaze helped Orion feel like he could just be himself.

“You are so easy to love, Devanna, just as you are. Your intelligence. Your honesty. Your bravery. Your undying devotion to those you give your heart to. You’re extraordinary in every possible way, shining so bright even when you try to hide yourself away.”

Devanna has been one of my favorite characters since Deja Brew, where she showed she is fieriest friend you could ever have. Out of all the DC characters, I probably have the most in common in Dev. Right down to her living childfree, her independence, her fear of commitment while being the MOST loyal, and her unwavering love for her friends.

Dev and Orion have had a rather... tense past. But the sexual TENSION? The BANTER? They are SO HOT when they finally give in to each other.

"The air crackled with the static of my magic, and Devanna shivered as a whisper of it ghosted through her. “Eyes on me, hellcat.”

“I always wondered if angels even know how to have sex, so yes, I want it. Fuck me.”
“Say my name, Devanna. Say who you want to fuck you.”

I loved seeing how Dev came to terms with her best friends pairing off and procreating and moving on, because I felt so similarly when I was in her position myself. All of her thoughts and fears were SO relateable to me.

I had no desire to Link myself forever to anyone — but seeing all of my friends start a new chapter of their lives had left me feeling… feelings. I hated feelings.

She (Nimue) had a whole life now outside of our friendship, a whole new family through her marriage, and I was happy for her, even if I mourned the way we used to be.

I so appreciated it being written with both things being true.

So much is happening in this book between the town being attacked by demons, some plot spoilers I can't mention, some more plot spoilers I wont mention, it's a wild ride that is so fun and I'm going to miss the DC guys so much. Especially Ryker.

And that brings me to my favorite part of the entire book...

"We turned to find Ryker striding over — buck ass naked. “Goddamn,” Dev murmured appreciatively, her eyes raking over his large frame without an ounce of shame. “I didn’t realize the tattoos were everywhere.”

Yeah... I'm gonna miss him.

GREAT CONCLUSION.

BLOG || INSTAGRAM

What an absolutely FUN series. I loved this whole concept, the world, magic, all of the paranormal people and the romance. It was a wild ride that brought a smile to my face every time I picked up one of these books.

I loved seeing Orion and Devanna AT LAST come together. The intense heat and passion between two unmovable forces could be felt through my kindle. While the spice wasn’t my personal cup of tea I know others will enjoy the more hate love scene/dominating style. I did love how fiercely protective they became for each other and how loyal once they let down a few walls.

The plot wrapped up really well and I liked seeing those final strings tied off. Getting the end of the larger story and seeing those HEA’s was so dang sweet. I’ll miss this entire cast.

Overall audience notes:
- Paranormal Romance
- Language: some strong
- Romance: 2-3 open; moderate explicit
- Violence: high
- Trigger/Content Warnings: false imprisonment, battle themes, loss of life

All the stars!
I love this conclusion to the Deadlights Cove series. I’ve been waiting for the tension to break between Devanna and Orion since book one.
I don’t want to spoil it, but we do get the conclusion to the mystery that has been going on since the first book. This was a great opposites attract but work perfect together story. And the tension and chemistry between or characters? On point!
I can’t recommend this book series enough.

This is another one where I was shocked at how much I liked the couple together. Obviously, Orion and Devanna play a decently large role in all the previous books but I think they're two of the more polarizing personalities and I wasn't sure how they'd be able to come back from their antagonistic relationship, especially because this is the last book and the author's were going to need to wrap up the overarching plot line.

I'm not typically a fan of enemies to lovers but I thought this was done really well, especially since neither character had to change themselves to fit together. They're both very set in their ways, but ultimately they both want what's best for the town, even if their ideas of how to achieve that often clash.

The romance in this was really incredible but I think the real star of the show was the found family aspect. This is the book where you really get to see all the incredible relationships that have formed outside of the romantic ones and those were some of my favorite moments in the book. I loved all the women getting together so they could get stronger and Devanna really is the perfect anchor for that, you could almost feel the sense of accomplishment that comes along with worming your way into her heart. I loved Dev and Nimue talking about how they're platonic soulmates, you could tell how much they both valued and needed their relationship. It was also great to see Petra being fully welcomed into the group, you get hints of her becoming less of an outsider in the previous books but this one seals the deal, I think.

The town was really on one in this book and I loved every second of it, the beanie babies art installation was a stroke of genius, and considering how tense the big final conflict is, I loved having those moments of levity.

I also think getting a deeper look at the angels was great for Orion's development, he suddenly doesn't seem a stuffy once you get a chance to meet more of the angels. I almost felt a bit sad for him at times because I think he was a little misunderstood and being the mayor of a town full of supernatural misfits seems like a thankless job, so I was relieved when it was obvious how much everyone in town appreciated what he'd done for them.

The ending was super well done, I think it seems like it'd be difficult to keep track of all the little plotlines as well as the big one throughout a series but the authors did an incredible job and the payoff was so, so worth it! I love that they neatly wrapped up the story of Deadlights Cove but left some wiggle room to return to this world in the future if they feel like it! (Hello wolfpack in Colorado???)

The bonus epilogue for this book was also incredible and I loved getting to see Mo surrounded by all the love she had encouraged over the course of the story, I think I actually cried the whole way through reading it??

I was actually a bit sad to finish reading this series because I enjoyed my time in Deadlights Cove so much, the authors did an incredible job with the world-building and the characters and it was such a joy to read. Now I'm off to go save up all my money so I can own physical copies of all of these <3

How am I even supposed to write a review for the final book in a series like Deadlights Cove? My heart feels so full with love for the characters and their journeys, but also sad because it’s over.

This book had everything that I have come to love about the previous books, but it gets kicked up to 11. I laughed hard so many times. My eyes were bugging out of my head other times because I was shocked. I cried a few times because the friendship in this book and series is just the best. I never wanted to put it down. And on top of all that, we finally have everything that has been happening over the series coming together.

I have loved Devanna since Smoke Show. With each book, I have found myself laughing at something she has said. I highlight quotes because I felt like I would act the same way or say the same things when it comes to my friends. Fiercely protective. So caring and supportive. Even in the previous books, I could tell that she has a tough exterior, but when it comes to her family, the love really shines through. Reading this book, I felt so deeply connected to Dev in a way that I haven’t felt for a character in a while. So much of her mindset and how she goes about her life really resonated me. I felt seen by Dev (and by Aimee & B). I think she will forever be one of my favorite characters of all time. I truly was not expecting to get hit so hard, but I am sitting here crying, trying to write this. Dev and her journey just meant so much to me.

Orion, man. It was so incredible to finally get inside his head. Understand what he is about. Know his life. He is so dedicated. You can see it with how he has acted throughout the series. He is so fiercely protective of this town, of his friends, and of his family. He never puts himself first. Always worrying about others. At one point, someone tells him “Don’t put yourself dead last…” and that stuck with me.

The two of them together!! Incredible. I don’t want to spoil anything, but it was better than what I could have imagined. Perfection. Just what each other needed.

This was just the best finale. I will definitely be coming back to these books and these characters again and again. They are comfort. They are home. COVIE FOR LIFE!!!

🐈‍⬛ SOMETHING WICKED’S COMING 🐈‍⬛

And I mean this in the New England sense of the word. That’s right, it’s @lit.lark’s favorite day.

AIMEE’S UNHINGED SELF-REVIEW

If you’ve been here for any length of time you’ll know two things: 1) I post a hopefully spoiler-free but completely rambly and wild self review after each book is published, and 2) my 70-year-old father-in-law reads my books. While the support is wonderful and I’m glad he’s filling his retired life with books, I’m gonna need him to yeet himself out of my series before this book. Picturing Rafiki throwing Simba off Pride Rock? Great, that’s me and my FIL. Bye buddy! I love you tons but we will never be able to look each other in the eye again if you read this. (Also your son approved all of it, you know what I’m sayin? ::waggles eyebrows::)

ALRIGHT. On to the good stuff. Devanna hates Orion with the fire of a thousand suns. You should know this by now. She’s spent the last decade making his life as difficult as possible, and Orion has pinched his brow so many times there’s an indent. (Except not really, because angel genetics and all. Face of a cherub, that man.) Everyone in town is shacking up after we figured out how to Link, and Dev is feeling left out. What does she do? Let’s all say it together: 🐈‍⬛ DIY projects and adopts a cat. 🐈‍⬛ Why is Bagheera suddenly here and not with his crazy owner, you ask? The FBI is here to investigate, and that includes looking into Dev. ::dun dun duuuuuunnnn::

Every single thing in this book (and series, really) is meant to make Orion absolutely lose his 💩 and the boy has officially had it. The moment these two come together is as fiery as you’re imagining. But when other people start to gang up on Orion, Dev picks up her shovel and is ready to go to bat for him. Nobody picks on Orion but her.

Writing the finale of a mystery series that’s spanned 5 books was difficult, to say the least. This one took @b.p.writes and I longer than we usually do, but I’m so happy with the way it ended. Even more happy because this is not the end… it’s the very beginning. 💜

XO, Aimee

I’m sad this series is now over but I have to say Karma is a Witch is the perfect ending!!! First, Devanna and Orion finally happen! Second, humans know about the supernaturals and the chaos with magic comes to a head.
Ever since the first book in this series I was waiting for Devanna and Orion to get together so of course I love their story! The banter between these two are always incredibly funny but when they finally cross the line, OMG! 🥵 Who knew the angel has such a dirty side?!
I love that they got to know each other. Devanna is definitely not a nice person, but she’s fiercely loyal, actually cares so deeply, and is determined. She’s basically a softie with a hard shell.
Orion has spent his whole life wanting to be on earth and now all he wants is to protect the people of Deadlights Cove. He takes so much on himself that I want to give him a hug at times. He loves his rules but knows when they don’t work, is so sweet, and protective.
Honestly, Orion is the only angel that could be the mayor of this town and the townspeople totally reinforce this. I was laughing so hard at these scenes and if you have read this book you know what I’m talking about. 😂
I loved everything about this series and I highly recommend it if you love paranormal romances and quirky small towns! I already miss all these characters and know I’ll definitely be rereading all these books in the future!!

One thing that really bothered me in the first half was the town's disregard for Orion. They truly cared more about themselves than his well-being and while I understand he was a rule enforcer and not super personable, it was exactly like Dev who people do like for some reason. They tried to tell him they cared, but their actions said otherwise. And the way so much blame was put on Orion when I don't feel he did anything wrong except keep some things to himself too frequently.

There were also a few inconsistencies. Dev and Zaphiel talk about how no demon has gone rogue, but we know that isn't true since an angel let out prisoners in a previous book.

With the negative out of the way, I LOVED Devanna. I did not expect to like her after her snark in the previous books, but her inner thoughts and angry feminism jived so well. Orion was exactly what I expected in a good way.

The series ended on a high note for sure. Each book gets better and better. I am genuinely sad to leave this little town behind. It felt insular at times, but I think it helped me not expect more of the necessary world-building that is needed to answer questions when you expand a world so thoroughly. The entire cast of characters was just so loveable. I can't wait to read the Timber Creek books!

Karma is a Witch, the fifth and final book in our beloved Deadlights Cove series is the ending we all deserve. With several gusp-worthy reveals, it was FUNNY (picture me cackling maniacally and you've got it), it was SEXY (absolutely said oh-my-damn while reading), and it had so much HEART (cried a lot and nobody is surprised).

Our prickly witch and up tight angel might as well have had f*ck off stamped on their foreheads this entire time. But oh. The way it has deterred NOBODY. I casually cried watching their found family come even closer, gifting them stability and affirmation and community.

Blaze and Dev moments are my favoriteeeee and Blaze and Orion moments are my favoriteeeee, and well, there's a lot of that goodness going around in this one!

There are still mysteries to be solved imo. Supernatural crises to thwart. And I just know our girls are nowhere near done writing in this universe. THANK MO AND THE BEANIE BABIES.

Infinite love for Karma and the entire DC series.

What can you expect from Karma is a Witch?
-Amazing banter
-Orion has dirty mouth (we all knew it)
-Dev is bad@ss
-The bell tower is the new boat house/jeep/treehouse/lighthouse
-Popcorn
-Fab girl gang moments

-Lots of action (in more ways than one)
-The epilogue is absolutely lovely, and I adore the POV chosen for it!

Aimee and B, this is the perfect conclusion to the series. I'm so sad that it's over, but I love knowing that I can always go back to the Cove to spend time with my fellow Covies!

Karma is a Witch is the fifth and final book in the Deadlights Cove series. This story focuses on Devanna and Orion. The tension between these two stubborn individuals has built since the first book. The resolution of that tension is well done and quite spicy. Finally getting to see Deadlights Cove through their eyes highlights the importance and beauty of found family. These two are truly the right couple to wrap up the series with. The epic series finale also cumlinates in the resolution of a major overarching story line. While the book focuses on Dev's and Orion's points of view, getting to see how all of the other couples have grown is truly perfect and heartwarming. That being said, the series conclusion elicits a sense of anxiety as we see our beloved cast prepare for the final battle.

I will always recommend the entire Deadlights Cove series. Karma is a Witch is perfect for the reader who wants enemies to lovers, found family, and small town paranormal romance.

Does Orion have a dungeon? Or is it merely a basement where he stores his boat shoes? There's only one way to find out!!!!!

Grab your favorite drink and a brace thyself for the slowest of slow burns to ignite!!!

When I tell you I've been waiting for this book, I mean I've been waiting OVER A DAMN YEAR for Orion's story, and B. and Aimee finally delivered. 🤌

The fifth and final book in the Deadlights Cove series wraps up the overarching mystery plot in true chaotic Cove fashion all while Orion and Dev butt heads on, well just about everything 😂 There are heartfelt moments with the ever wonderful Mo, HOT AF moments between our main characters, and Bags makes a few appearances too. Oh… and someone dies…. 👀

It's a well known fact that this is one of my favorite series of all time. 🥹 Thank you B. and Aimee for giving us this beautiful town to escape to. Please never stop writing. 🫶

What a way to end the series! I have been itching for Dev and Orion's story ever since the tension first started building in Smoke Show. I adored getting their POVs, seeing what makes them tick, and finally letting go and acting on what they've always wanted.

Truly, to me, everything about this was perfect. The banter, the spice, the reveals, and how the overarching series mystery was resolved. These characters and this make believe town have become so special to me and I'm so so happy how their wrapped up.

The epilogue absolutely SENT ME. It was perfection.

If you like enemies to lovers, mysteries, sassiness galore, impeccable found family vibes, tension up the wazoo then you MUST read this book.

Holy Kumquats. This series was fantastic.

Do not just read one or two of the books as standalone. Read them all - in order. I adore these characters. I adore this town. I am devastated that it's over.

Deadlights Cove is basically Stars Hollow (yes, from Gilmore Girls, complete with a gazebo at the center of town) but with supernatural townsfolk.

These characters had me cackling but there's also a bit of mystery. There's romance and just the right amount of spice, but amazing friendships and quirky characters too. Plus tons of pop culture references and beanie babies.

You know when people talk about making a book their entire personality after they read it, because they loved it so much? That's how I feel about this series.

I cannot recommend it enough!!
